  • ASP .NET Added Event Handlers to buttons on Page_Load. Event handlers do not fire the first click, b

    Background: I am customizing an existing ASP .NET / C# application. It has it's own little "framework" and conventions for developers to follow when extending/customizing its functionality. I am currently extending some of it's administrative functionality, to which the framework provides a contract to enforce implementation of the GetAdministrationInterface() method, which returns System.Web.UI.Control. This method is called during the Page_Load() method of the page hosting the GUI interface. Problem: I have three buttons in my GUI, each of which have been assigned an Event Handler. My administration GUI loads up perfectly fine, but clicking any of the buttons doesn't do what I expect them to do. However, when I click them a second time, the buttons work. I placed breakpoints at the the beginning of each event handler method and stepped through my code. On the first click, none of the event handlers are triggered. On the second click, they are triggered. Any ideas?   • Servlet response wrapper has encoding problem

    A servlet response wrapper is being used in a Servlet Filter. The idea is that the response is manipulated, with a 'nonce' value being injected into forms, as part of defence against CSRF attacks. The web app is using UTF-8 everywhere. When the Servlet Filter is absent, no problems. When the filter is added, encoding issues occur. (It seems as if the response is reverting to 8859-1.) That is done here, as you can see, in two places. The value of the 'encoding' variable is 'UTF-8'; the alteration of the String itself is standard string manipulation (with a regex), and never specifies an encoding (addHiddenParamToPostedForms). Where am I in error about the encoding?   • When to delete newly deprecated code?

    I spent a month writing an elaborate payment system that handles both credit card payments and electronic fund transfers. My work was used on production server for about a month. I was told recently by the client that he no longer wants to use the electronic fund transfer feature. Because the way I had to interface and communicate with the credit card gateway is drastically different from the electronic fund transfer api (eg. the cc company gives transaction responses immediately after an http request, while the eft company gives transaction responses 5 business days after an http request), I spent a lot of time writing my own API to abstract common function calls like function payment(amount, pay_method,pay_freq) function updateRecurringSchedule(user_id,new_schedule) etc.. Now that the client wants to abandon the EFT feature, all my work for this abstracted payments API is obsolete. I'm deliberating over whether I should scrap my work. Here's my pro vs. con for scrapping it now: PRO 1: Eliminate code bloat PRO 2: New developers do not need to learn MY API. They only need to read the CC company's API PRO 3: Because the EFT company did not handle recurring payment schedules, refunds, and validation, I wrote my own application to do it. Although the CC company's API permitted this functionality, I opted to use mine instead so that I could streamline my code. now that EFT is out of the picture, I can delete all this confusing code and just rely on the CC company's sytsem to manage recurring billing, payment schedules, refunds, validations etc... CON 1: Although I can just delete the EFT code, it still takes time to remove the entire framework consolidates different payment systems. CON 2: with regards to PRO 3, it takes time to build functionality that integrates the payment system more closely with the CC company. CON 3: I feel insecure deleting all this work. I don't think I'll ever use it again. But, for some inexplicable reason, I just don't feel comfortable deleting this work "right now". So my question is, should I delete one month's worth recent development? If yes, should I do it immediately or wait X amount of time before doing so?

    I have an html table nested in an html table cell. I want the nested table to use the full size of the cell it is nested in. When I use firefox or google chrome I get the result I want but when I use Internet Explorer 8 (even if I use td style="height="100%") the height of the nested cell depends on it's content. As a result I get whitespace before and after my nested table.

    I am using CoreData with iPhone SDK. I am making a notes app. I have a table with note objects displayed from my model. When a button is pressed I want to save the text in the textview to the object being edited. How do I do this? I've been trying several things but none seem to work.     I have a C++ object, Graph, which contains a property named cat of type Category. I'm exposing the Graph object to PHP in an extension I'm writing in C++. As long as the Graph's methods return primitives like boolean or long, I can use the Zend RETURN_*() macros (e.g. RETURN_TRUE(); or RETURN_LONG(123);. But how can I make Graph-getCategory(); return a Category object for the PHP code to manipulate?     I have this code: $('#page-refresh').click( function() { $.ajax({ url: "/page1.php", cache: false, dataType: "html", success: function(data) { $('#pagelist').html(data); } }); return false; }); In this code is it possible that on the ajax success function it disables the #page-refresh click for 5 seconds then re-enable it? Basically if a person clicks the button and this action happens I dont want them to click and run this action again for another 5 seconds. I looked at delay() to unbind the click for this then bind it again but once it unbinded it never allowed me to click the button anymore.

  • Just when I thought my site was working right, it screws up in IE7

    I thought I'd done quite well, my site passed XHTML1.0 strict validation and worked flawlessly in IE6 as well as looking fine in IE8 & Chrome. I glibly thought that it it worked in IE6 & 8, IE7 was bound to be OK. But on checking I see one of my has a scrollbar in IE7, the seems about 200% as wide as it should be... the content is fine but you can scroll the whole . 2 separate pages have this issue, a 3rd does not, even though all pages use the same layout template - the main difference on the 2 that break is a floated div. Are there known issues specifically in this area with IE7? Or do I have to embarrass myself by posting a link to the site?

    There's a bunch of special macros that MFC uses when creating dialogs, and in my quick tests I'm getting weird errors trying to compile a template dialog class. Is this likely to be a big pain to achieve? Note my code is all in one file, since C++ templates don't like .h/.cpp like normal. I'm assuming someone must have done this in the past, possibly creating custom versions of macros, but I can't find it by searching, since 'template' has other meanings.

  • How do you have grayed out text in a textfield that dissapears when the user clicks on it

    In HTML & JS, how do you make a textfield that has grayed out text telling the user what the field is for that goes away when the user clicks on the field? For example, in firefox the search field in the top right hand side says which search engine it uses when there's nothing entered, then once you click it's an empty textfield, but if you leave it blank and remove focus from the textfield then the grayed out text is back again. Is there a name for this behavior? Also, is it possible to do in pure css without the use of js to do the on focus / on blur events?

  • Battery drains even with app off screen, could it be Location Services doing it?

    I run my app, which uses GPS and Bluetooth, then hit the back button so it goes off screen. I verified via LogCat that the app's onDestroy was called. OnDestroy removes the location listeners and shuts down my app's Bluetooth service. I look at the phone 8 hours later and half the battery charge has been consumed, and my app was responsible according the phone's Battery Use screen. If I use the phone's Settings menu to Force Stop the app, this doesn't occur. So my question is: do I need to do something more than remove the listeners to stop Location Services from consuming power? That's the only thing I can think of that would be draining the battery to that degree when the app is supposedly dormant.     I would like to use the facilities provided by stringstream to extract values from a fixed-format string as a type-safe alternative to sscanf. How can I do this? Consider the following specific use case. I have a std::string in the following fixed format: YYYYMMDDHHMMSSmmm Where: YYYY = 4 digits representing the year MM = 2 digits representing the month ('0' padded to 2 characters) DD = 2 digits representing the day ('0' padded to 2 characters) HH = 2 digits representing the hour ('0' padded to 2 characters) MM = 2 digits representing the minute ('0' padded to 2 characters) SS = 2 digits representing the second ('0' padded to 2 characters) mmm = 3 digits representing the milliseconds ('0' padded to 3 characters) Previously I was doing something along these lines: string s = "20101220110651184"; unsigned year = 0, month = 0, day = 0, hour = 0, minute = 0, second = 0, milli = 0; sscanf(s.c_str(), "%4u%2u%2u%2u%2u%2u%3u", &year, &month, &day, &hour, &minute, &second, &milli ); The width values are magic numbers, and that's ok. I'd like to use streams to extract these values and convert them to unsigneds in the interest of type safety. But when I try this: stringstream ss; ss << "20101220110651184"; ss >> setw(4) >> year; year retains the value 0. It should be 2010. How do I do what I'm trying to do? I can't use Boost or any other 3rd party library, nor can I use C++0x.

  • Write a dll that is accessable from VS 2003 VC++ code

    I need to be able to write a DLL in either C# or VC++ that is accessible from code that is written in Visual Studio 2003 VC++. It looks like the code is unmanaged (uses * for pointers) VC++ and this DLL needs to be able to drop right in and be accessed by the current code. The DLL is an RS232 driver that needs to be able to return an int for an error code and pass back, by reference, some measured values, to the calling program. Will I even be able to write this in C#? If not, I only have access to Visual Studio 2005 or 2008. Will I be able to write my code in either, and will that DLL be able to be called from the current code base? Or do I have to go looking on ebay for a copy of VS 2003?
