Example (taken from JLS): class Outer { class Inner{ } } class ChildOfInner extends Outer.Inner { ChildOfInner() { (new Outer()).super(); // (new Outer()) is the Primary } } Does a Primary expression exist that makes the call to super() the invocation of a constructor of the calling class? Or Java prevents that?

  • More elegant way to parse inline variables in strings

    Currently I have this: function parse_string($string, $variables){ extract($variables); return eval('return "'. addcslashes($string, '"') .'";'); } So I can input this string: 'Hi {$name}, my name is {$own_name}' Together with this array: array('name' => 'John', 'own_name' => 'Tom') And get this back: 'Hi John, my name is Tom'   I've never liked this eval() approach but it works and it's fast (faster than regex at least). Question: Is there a more elegant way to do this (faster than using regex) in PHP5?

  • Selecting records with specific month and year in SQL Server 2005

    I want to list records with a particular month and year. The table name is 'Arrival' and 'date' is the field that stores the date that the record was added. This is to be done from a C# application. For example, if the user selects month as 'April' and year as '2009' in the application, it will list all the records that were added on April,2009. (I only need the query, hope I can figure out the rest :) )

  • What is the fastest way to get a DataTable into SQL Server?

    I have a DataTable in memory that I need to dump straight into a SQL Server temp table. After the data has been inserted, I transform it a little bit, and then insert a subset of those records into a permanent table. The most time consuming part of this operation is getting the data into the temp table. Now, I have to use temp tables, because more than one copy of this app is running at once, and I need a layer of isolation until the actual insert into the permanent table happens. What is the fastest way to do a bulk insert from a C# DataTable into a SQL Temp Table? I can't use any 3rd party tools for this, since I am transforming the data in memory. My current method is to create a parameterized SqlCommand: INSERT INTO #table (col1, col2, ... col200) VALUES (@col1, @col2, ... @col200) and then for each row, clear and set the parameters and execute. There has to be a more efficient way. I'm able to read and write the records on disk in a matter of seconds...

    Is there an elegant way to check which port you deployed a ruby on rails application using mongrel? I could not find a directive (i.e. such as #{RAILS_ROOT} which contains the root directory of the application) that I can use to perform a check. I need this to do a check since I am deploying the same application on different ports and I need the app to do different things according to the port that is being accessed.   • best REGEXP friendly Text Editors + most powerful REGEXP syntax?

    I am fluent with Microsoft Visual 2005 regular expressions and they are a big time saver. I seem to learn them best by having a vaguely organized cheat sheet thrown at me, at which point I read just a little and play with them until I understand what's going on. That learning approach has worked well for me, for now. I would really like to take this to the next level though. Basically -- What is the REGEXP convention that is generally regarded as the most open-ended and powerful? VS2005 Regexps seem kind of gimped, so maybe I'm a kid playing in a sandbox. Are there text editors out there that can perform a highlight all matches, list lines containing string, or some kind of powerful function like that in conjunction with the very strongest REGEXP language? If not I can just use multiple programs and a weird technique but I'd like to avoid that. I wonder if a stronger REGEXP language or a "stronger" regEXP writer might be able to have his search match all results on all lines even by clicking a "find next" by adding some simple criteria to the search. Anyway, please provide advice!

    I'm trying to layout 6 images per page with prawn in Ruby: case (idx % 6) # ugly when 0 : (pdf.start_new_page; pdf.image img, :position => :left, :vposition => :top, :width => 270) when 1 : pdf.image img, :position => :right, :vposition => :top, :width => 270 when 2 : pdf.image img, :position => :left, :vposition => :center, :width => 270 when 3 : pdf.image img, :position => :right, :vposition => :center, :width => 270 when 4 : pdf.image img, :position => :left, :vposition => :bottom, :width => 270 when 5 : pdf.image img, :position => :right, :vposition => :bottom, :width => 270 end Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it prints the first 3 images to the PDF, then creates a new page and prints the last three: Page 1: <img> <img> <blank> <blank> <blank> <blank> Page 2: <blank> <blank> <blank> <img> <img> <img> Any suggestions would help.

  • Accessing WordPress categories from outside

    So, I have a client that needs all the categories from their blog to be displayed on their homepage. The WordPress blog is in its own directory, /blog. I have tried the following code (taken from a tutorial, I changed the path to fit clients site): <?php // Include WordPress define('WP_USE_THEMES', false); require('blog/wp-load.php'); query_posts('showposts=1'); ?> But this code just redirects me to the install file of WordPress (it actually wrongly redirects me). It goes to http://www.site.com/wp-admin/install.php instead of http://www.site.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php. Is there a better way than this method? I would pull in the categories from the database table, but I do not currently have access. Thanks!

  • Rewriting .each() loop as for loop to optimize, how to replicate $(this).attr()

    I running into some performance issues with a jquery script i wrote when running in ie so I'm going through it trying to optimize any way possible. Apparently using for loops is way faster than using the jQuery .each method. This has led me to a question regarding the equivalent of $(this) inside a for loop. I'm simplifying what I'm doing in my loop down to just using an attr() function as it gets across my main underlying question. Im doing this with each(simplified) var existing = $('#existing'); existing.each(function(){ console.log($(this).attr('id')); }); And I've tried rewriting it as a for loop as such: var existing = $('#existing'); for(var i = 0;i < existing.length;i++) { console.log(existing[i].attr('id')); } Its throwing an error saying: Uncaught TypeError: Object #<HTMLDivElement> has no method 'attr' Thanks.

  • UIAlertView Will not show

    I have a program that is requesting a JSON string. I have created a class that contains the connect method below. When the root view is coming up, it does a request to this class and method to load up some data for the root view. When I test the error code (by changing the URL host to 127.0.0.1), I expect the Alert to show. Behavior is that the root view just goes black, and the app aborts with no alert. No errors in debug mode on the console, either. Any thoughts as to this behavior? I've been looking around for hints to this for hours to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help.     I have an MSVC Makefile Project in which I need to set an environment variable before running NMAKE. For x64 builds I needs to set it to one value, and for x86 builds I need to set it to something else. So for example, when doing a build I would want to SET PLATFORM=win64 if I'm building a 64-bit compile, or SET PLATFORM=win32 if I'm building 32-bit. There does not appear to be an option to set environment variables or add a pre-build even for makefile projects. How do I do this? EDIT: Running MSVC 2008

  • Templates in C#

    I know generics are in C# to fulfill a role similar to C++ templates but I really need a way to generate some code at compile time - in this particular situation it would be very easy to solve the problem with C++ templates. Does anyone know of any alternatives? Perhaps a VS plug-in that preprocesses the code or something like that? It doesn't need to be very sophisticated, I just need to generate some methods at compile time.
