  • cannot get ip address on a virtual machine

    so i have a code which gets me the ip address of a machine i am wroking on. so if my gui is published on the server and i access it from my local machine it gives me tha address of my local machine and when i access the gui from the server itself it gives me the server address.. which is fine.     I installed postgres on my mac running 10.6.8 and I would like to reset the password for the postgres user (I believe this is the super user password) and then restart it. All the directions I found do not work because I think my user name is not recognized by pg as having authority to change the password. (I am on the admin account of my mac) Here is what I tried: Larson-2:~ larson$ psql -U postgres Password for user postgres: psql (9.0.4, server 9.1.2) WARNING: psql version 9.0, server version 9.1. Some psql features might not work. Type "help" for help. postgres=# ALTER USER postgres with password 'mypassword' postgres-# \q and for restart I did: Larson-2:~ larson$ su postgres -c 'pg_ctl -D /opt/local/var/db/postgresql84/defaultdb/ restart > Which didn't work, as the password remained the same as it was before. Can someone provide directions for doing this and for making sure it's recognized by PG? Update I went ahead and edited the pg_hba.conf file located in /Library/PostgreSQL/9.1/data and set the settings as follows: # TYPE DATABASE USER ADDRESS METHOD # "local" is for Unix domain socket connections only local all all trust # IPv4 local connections: host all all 127.0.0.1/32 trust # IPv6 local connections: host all all ::1/128 trust However, like before, the password stayed the same after I changed it. I am not sure what further steps I can take from here.

Occasionally our phones will not ring, the end recipient hears ringing (this is artificially created by our PBX) however the handset never rings. The ONLY thing that has changed in our network is the option routers line. So, Since all Polycom MAC addresses begin with 00:04:F2 would it be possible in DHCP to say any 00:04:F2:::* MAC addresses get option routers 10.0.32.1, and anything else must talk with our Gateway?

    I am starting to write some code for A/B testing in a Grails web application. I want to ensure that requests from the same IP address always see the same variation. Rather than store a map of IP-variant, is it OK to simply turn the IP address into an integer by removing the dots, then use that as the seed for a random number generator? The following is taking place in a Grails Filter: def ip = request.remoteAddr def random = new Random(ip.replaceAll(/\./, '').toInteger()) def value = random.nextBoolean() session.assignment = value // value should always be the same for a given IP address I know that identifying users by IP address is not reliable, and I will be using session variables/cookies as well, but this seems to be useful for the case where we have a new session, and no cookies set (or the user has cookies disabled).

    I have various classes which all contain address details, i.e. AddressLine1, AddressLine2, AddressLine3, Suburb, Town, etc. On the front end, I need to format the address in a particular way, i.e. AddressLine1<br /> AddressLine2<br /> Suburb State Postcode If AddressLine2 does not exist or empty, don't show it. Quite straight-forward. I am trying to determine the best way to show this info. At the moment, the Address property of each class calls a FormatAddress method which writes out the html string. This exists as a method of the class. My opinion is that any formatting should exist from the front-end control i.e. ascx etc. However, if these DetailClasses need to format the same address info, what would be the best option, also making it easier to maintain?

    Hi, When I throw in a method A, it causes buffer overrun but when I return, it runs fine. I thought throw moves execution to the caller method so the address it goes to should be the same as return address, but i am obviuosly wrong. Is there a way to see what address throw goes to in Visual Studio debugger? Thank you

  • jQuery Address Plugin - Not allowing loading ajax?

    I am trying to test the jQuery Address Plugin and it seems to not allow ajax to work in the change function. I am using: $.address.change(function(event) { $('#content').load(event.value+' #content'); $.address.title(event.value); }); $('a').click(function() { $.address.value($(this).attr('href')); }); While I can use event.value for other things, it just does not seem to let the .load() function work. Even trying a static URL in .load() does nothing. Is something in the plugin preventing this? I thought this was the point of the plugin!

    Hi, I'm about to buy a new laptop (Asus G62) to replace my old ubuntu desktop. I will use it mostly for django development (and some legacy win32 stuff in a virtualbox). However, since I will need to do some iPhone development in the near future, I'm starting to think that it might be a wiser to buy a MacBook Pro, instead of the Asus and later a cheap (so to speak...) MacBook. How well suited is a MacBook Pro for Django development? I currently use WingIDE on Linux and love it, how does the Mac version compare to the linux one? Is the Ubuntu - Mac OS transition complicated? Will I be able to leverage my Linux knowledge? OTOH, I'm your average nerd, so I'm not sure if I'm cool enough for a Mac. Besides, having a double chin, a black turtle neck is completely out of question. Thanks in advance!

  • Two monitors with Mac Mini - one displays black despite receiving a signal

    My Mac Mini outputs to my two new monitors - Dell U2311Hs. The LED on the bezel displays blue when receiving a signal, or yellow otherwise. Both screens are displaying blue. It also seems my Mini can see both of them... However, one of them is black. It just displays black, but appears to be receiving a signal (when I turn the Mac off, it then displays No Signal). To make things weirder, on startup, the boot up (white with Apple logo) appears on the right monitor (the one that now displays black). Occasionally, it flickers up on the black screen for 1 second. I have tried Detect Displays. It appears to do nothing. I'm also running a dual monitor KVM. Video connections are DVI-D. How can I fix this situation? Thanks. Update This is the weirdest thing - I used the DVI-D cable that came with the KVM and it seems to have fixed it - I didn't both because it looks identical to any other DVI cable (in form an pin out). So, I will accept an answer if someone can tell me what may be the difference in these cables?

    I have a Linux Synergy server (Si-Linux) serving just one Mac client (Macbook Pro UK) (SiBook-Pro.local). On my Linux server I am using a USB Apple keyboard with the exact layout of the laptops keyboard (the compact UK aluminium keyboard). I don't understand since it is the same key as is on the Macbook's keyboard. I tried to reverse the client-server config to see if I could capture the key being sent if I pressed the Play button on the Macbook but the key doesn't seem to even make it to Synergy. Almost all keyboard presses get logged but the media keys seem to bypass the logs and just execute their function locally. E.g. I press play on the Macbook (with the Macbook as the server) and the key plays music on the Macbook and the key is not logged to the debug log.

  • Mac OS X in Virtualbox says "You need to restart your computer"

    I've been trying to figure out for the past week how to get Snow Leopard reliably running in a VM. Right now I am using VirtualBox, and it runs fine for a while, but every once in a while (happened 3 times in the last few hours) I get the "You need to restart your computer" message. Unfortunately, it hasn't even lasted long enough to finish installing the operating system yet. I first tried VMWare, which was a pain to set up. I got it running ok, operating system installed, with the guest tools. Every once in a while though, it just stops running. I click inside the VM, and there's no mouse. It doesn't respond to keyboard input either. I have to reset the VM to get a response. I'm wondering if this is the same error. This happens with both Workstation and Player.   • IIS7 can't read web.config on shared Mac filesystem

    I'm running a VirtualBox virtualized Windows 2008 Server on my Mac, just finished setting it up today. On it, I have SQL Server 2008, IIS and ColdFusion 9. I want to serve websites from my Mac filesystem (for development purposes). So I created a new website in IIS and pointed it at the appropriate path using a UNC path: \vboxsvr\rob\Sites\testsite, which contains the ColdFusion code and a web.config file. When I attempt to modify the file at all, or view the site in a web browser, I get an error: HTTP 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. I did some Googling, and found several similar problems, but nothing exactly like I have. The closest one seemed to indicate permissions. So I recreated the site and set it up to allow the Administrator (in Windows) to access the stuff. That didn't help. I can read/modify the files just fine from within Windows, but IIS itself can't seem to do it. What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks!

    Fortunately, my Mac-pro also made one of my USB storage devices inoperable. My data loss in that USB device but such as another USB device and USB keyboard are unaffected. I have heard that my friend usually trigger this problem by having at least two devices plugged in - typically thumb drives/USB flash drives, and then once a second flash drive is plugged in that become unrecognized. I have only two USB ports and first I think port loose when I connect two USB devices. But later I found these hidden files (“.Spotlight-V100”, “.TemporaryItems”, “.Trashes”, and “._.Trashes”) are created by Mac OS. And before unrecognized that USB device I have deleted these files and my friend had also done the same action. Now I don’t want to test for next USB device to become unrecognized and I won’t deleted any hidden system file inside the flash drives. But I really want to know why these problems happened. Can I delete these hidden files when I only connect to virtual machine (Vista), because I used to delete all useless hidden files from USB flash drives? Any suggestions or thoughts to prevent this or alternative suggestions to fix the problem that take lossless would be much appreciated.
