  • Organization moving from ASP.NET to WebLogic - training recommendations?

    - by frankadelic
My organization previously used ASP.NET for web projects. They are now migrating to WebLogic/JEE for all future web projects. My experience as a Lead Developer / Architect is totally with .NET projects. I want to get ramped up on WebLogic/JEE, so I can contribute to future projects. Any training/certification suggestions for WebLogic/JEE, in a 6-month time frame? Assume that I will need to fund my own training, and I am working full time. So, money and time are limited.

  • How do you convert date taken from a bash script to milliseconds in java program?

    - by Matt Pascoe
I am writing a piece of code in java that needs to take a time sent from a bash script and parse the time to milliseconds. When I check the millisecond conversion on the date everything is correct except for the month I have sent which is January instead of March. Here is the variable I create in the bash script, which later in the script I pass to the java program: TIME=`date +%m%d%Y_%H:%M:%S` Here is the java code which parses the time to milliseconds: String dt = "${scriptstart}"; java.text.SimpleDateFormat scriptStart = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MMDDyyyy_HH:mm:ss"); long start = scriptStart.parse(dt).getTime(); The goal of this statement is to find the elapsed time between the start of the script and the current system time. To troubleshoot this I printed out the two: System Time = 1269898069496 (converted = Mon Mar 29 2010 16:27:49 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)) Script Start = 03292010_16:27:45 Script Start in Milli = 1264804065000 (Converted = Fri Jan 29 2010 16:27:45 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time))

  • Log4net rollingfile appender skipping every other day in asp.net mvc app

    - by tasty_spider_men
Hi, I've set up some log4net logging on an asp.net mvc application i've had running for a little over a month now. I've set up rolling file (and smtp) appender on it. The application is hit several thousand times a day - alot of actions are logged. On top of these a number of batch jobs are run as part of the application that also write to the log. Now - as i've been occupied with other work, i've not attended to this application much assuming things to be working based on my test setup. Unfortunately i discover that the rolling file appender on my production server seems to be skipping every other day. Ie i have logs : 10/4/2010, 10/4/2010.1, 10/4/2010.2, 12/4/2010, 12/4/2010.1 , 14/4/2010, 14/4/2010.1 etc. Any idea what could be causing this? It is absolutely impossible that there has no action on these odd days for the lifetime of the application. Cheers

  • Cloud HUGE data storage options?

    - by ToughPal
Hi, Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to do video recording? We have a camera that can record and then stream live video to a server. So this means we can have 1000's of cameras sending data 24X7 for recording. We will store data for over 7 / 14 / 30 days depending on the package. Per day if a camera is sending data to the server then it will store 1.5GB. So that means there is a traffic of 1.5GB / day / camera Total monthly 45GB / month / camera (Data + bandwidth for one camera) Please let me know the most cost effective way to get this data stored? Thanks!

  • Speed-up of readonly MyISAM table

    - by Ozzy
We have a large MyISAM table that is used to archive old data. This archiving is performed every month, and except from these occasions data is never written to the table. Is there anyway to "tell" MySQL that this table is read-only, so that MySQL might optimize the performance of reads from this table? I've looked at the MEMORY storage engine, but the problem is that this table is so large that it would take a large portion of the servers memory, which I don't want. Hope my question is clear enough, I'm a novice when it comes to db administration so any input or suggestions are welcome.

  • Best way to handle MySQL date for performance with thousands of users

    - by bitLost
I am currently part of a team designing a site that will potentially have thousands of users who will be doing a number of date related searches. During the design phase we have been trying to determine which makes more sense for performance optimization. Should we store the datetime field as a mysql datetime. Or should be break it up into a number of fields (year, month, day, hour, minute, ...) The question is with a large data set and a potentially large set of users, would we gain performance wise breaking the datetime into multiple fields and saving on relying on mysql date functions? Or is mysql already optimized for this?

  • Having trouble comparing a range of dates entered in a form with records in a mySQL database

    - by Andrew Fox
I have a table called schedule and a column called Date where the column type is date. In that column I have a range of dates, which is currently from 2012-11-01 to 2012-11-30. I have a small form where the user can enter a range of dates (input names from and to) and I want to be able to compare the range of dates with the dates currently in the database. This is what I have: //////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////First set the date range that we want to use////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////// if(isset($_POST['from']) && ($_POST['from'] != NULL)) { $startDate = $_POST['from']; } else { //Default date is Today $startDate = date("Y-m-d"); } if(isset($_POST['to']) && ($_POST['to'] != NULL)) { $endDate = $_POST['to']; } else { //Default day is one month from today $endDate = date("Y-m-d", strtotime("+1 month")); } ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////Next calculate the total amount of days selected above to use as a limiter////// ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// $dayStart = strtotime($startDate); $dayEnd = strtotime($endDate); $total_days = abs($dayEnd - $dayStart) / 86400 +1; echo "Start Date: " . $startDate . "<br>End Date: " . $endDate . "<br>"; echo "Day Start: " . $dayStart . "<br>Day End: " . $dayEnd . "<br>"; echo "Total Days: " . $total_days . "<br>"; //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //////Then we're going to see if the dates selected are in the schedule table////// //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //Select all of the dates currently in the schedule table between the range selected. $sql = ("SELECT Date FROM schedule WHERE Date BETWEEN '$startDate' AND '$endDate' LIMIT $total_days"); //Run a check on the query to make sure it worked. If it failed then print the error. if(!$result_date_query = $mysqli->query($sql)) { die('There was an error getting the dates from the schedule table [' . $mysqli->error . ']'); } //Set the dates to an array for future use. // $current_dates = $result_date_query->fetch_assoc(); //Loop through the results while a result is being returned. while($row = $result_date_query->fetch_assoc()) { echo "Row: " . $row['Date'] . "<br>"; echo "Start day: " . date('Y-m-d', $dayStart) . "<br>"; //Set this loop to add 1 day to the Start Date until it reaches the End Date for($i = $dayStart; $i <= $dayEnd; $i = strtotime('+1 day', $i)) { $date = date('Y-m-d',$i); echo "Loop Start day: " . date('Y-m-d', $dayStart) . "<br>"; //Run a check to see if any of the dates selected are in the schedule table. if($row['Date'] != $date) { echo "Current Date: " . $row['Date'] . "<br>"; echo "Date: " . $date . "<br>"; echo "It appears as though you've selected some dates that are not in the schedule database.<br>Please correct the issue and try again."; return; } } } //Free the result so something else can use it. $result_date_query->free(); As you can see I've added in some echo statements so I can see what is being produced. From what I can see it looks like my $row['Date'] is not incrementing and staying at the same date. I originally had it set to a variable (currently commented out) but I thought that could be causing problems. I have created the table with dates ranging from 2012-11-01 to 2012-11-15 for testing and entered all of this php code onto phpfiddle.org but I can't get the username provided to connect. Here is the link: PHP Fiddle I'll be reading through the documentation to try and figure out the user connection problem in the meantime, I would really appreciate any direction or advice you can give me.

  • Advice needed for a small web application's architecture/implementation

    - by Johhny P
I was asked to build a website where a company's employees (around 20) could login and fill in their working schedules for a present and past (if needed) month. Employees should ofcourse only be able to see their own schedules, but the manager should have the privilege to access every schedule. I have little experience in web development therefore an advice is needed. I have already created a PHP/MySql login page. Now what? How do I go about it? Just some architectural or implementational(if you will) guidance would be really appreciated.

  • Convert UTC date to actual date and time

    - by evann
    I have a chart of bitcoin prices. I have the correct prices on the Y-axis, but I cannot get the correct time on the X-axis. The time shows up in a UTC format in my console. I am adding price and date to the series each iteration. I need to get the date of that particular result and find the YEAR, MONTH and DAY of that so I can put it in the right format. Any help is appreciated thanks. $.ajax({ url: "/chart/ajax_get_chart", // the URL of the controller action method dataType: "json", type: "GET", success: function (result) { var result = JSON.parse(result); series = []; for (var i = 0; i < result.length; i++) { tempArray = [parseFloat(result[i]['price'])]; tempDate = Date.parse(result[i]['date']); series.push(tempDate); series.push(tempArray); }

  • PHP Framework Benefits / Downfalls

    - by Lizard
I have been a PHP developer for about 10 years now and until about a month ago I have never used a framework. The framework I am now using due to an existing codebase is cakePHP 1.2 I can see certain benefits of the frameworks with the basic helpers like default layouts. I can deffinately seen the benefits of MVC keeping the logic sperate etc. But the query building just seems to be bloated. Is this expected? Am I likely to be able to build better queries than the framework could build? I just feel I could get my apps running better without a framework. What are your thoughts?

  • How to detect touchEvent across multiple objects?

    - by RobGThai
In short: I need to find a way to implement swipe action (touchEvent) for my Calendar just like the default Android Calendar one. I am using GridView to make a calendar for my application. When I touch any date, I launch an activity to display details on that date. My problem is that now I tried to implement swipe to change month/year to display but I dont know a way to do it. I tried to use setOnTouchListener on GridView but it seems like detecting for each grid separately instead of the whole grid as one. Further problem would be that it overridden my onItemClick implementation as well.

  • SQL - suppressing duplicate *adjacent* records

    - by Trevel
I need to run a Select statement (DB2 SQL) that does not pull adjacent row duplicates based on a certain field. In specific, I am trying to find out when data changes, which is made difficult because it might change back to its original value. That is to say, I have a table that vaguely resembles: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 12, Mar A, 12, Apr A, 9, May A, 9, Jun A, 5, Jul And I want to get the results: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 9, May A, 5, Jul discarding adjacent duplicates but keeping the last row. The obvious: Select Letter, Number, Min(Month) from Table group by Letter, Number does not work -- it doesn't include the last row.

  • How select data from SQLite table where date = week of year?

    - by vovaxo
    I have table expense: "create table " + Expense.TABLE_NAME + "(" + Expense.ID + " integer primary key autoincrement not null, " + Expense.CATEGORY_ID + " integer, " + Expense.ITEM + " text, " + Expense.PRICE + " real, " + Expense.DATE + " date, " + Expense.TIME + " time);"; And I want to select Expense.PRICE where Expense.DATE = current day/week/month. I tried to do this cursor = mDB.rawQuery("select " + Expense.PRICE + " where " + " (strftime('%W', " + Expense.DATE + "))" + "=" + week, null); where week is week = calendar.get(Calendar.WEEK_OF_YEAR); but it gives an error in cursor: 09-15 09:32:02.647: E/AndroidRuntime(18939): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 09-15 09:32:02.647: E/AndroidRuntime(18939): at com.pllug.summercamp.expensemanager.DataAdapter.getPrice(DataAdapter.java:242)

  • SharePoint 2010 GAC deployment doesn't update

    - by mcnarya
The following issue just crept up on me. The steps mentioned below had worked just fine until about 2 days ago. When I deploy a update to a solution (of web parts) to a SharePoint 2010 server I don't see the update. The solution does get installed, but from what I can tell the installed web parts are over a month old (nothing new is installed). I do the following steps through PowerShell: retract the solution from the web app remove the solution add the solution install the solution to the web app I have tried restarting the Web App, restarting IIS and also restarting the server. Nothing seems to work. I notice that after I remove the solution it does get removed from the GAC. After I add/install it the solution does reappears in the GAC. Am I missing something? Am I overlooking a step that I should be doing? Something to try?

  • Send data to webserver from C#, what's the most efficient way?

    - by Brian
I am sending gps coordinates from a windows mobile phone to a webserver using a basic program I wrote in C#. The problem is the data plan on the phone only allows 4 MB per month. I was planning on updating the location every 10 seconds. Currently I am just creating a webrequest every 10 seconds to a php page on the server and the coordinates are passed over in the url, the php page saves them to the database. This generates about 1K of data per request, at this rate I will hit my data limit in less than a day. Is there a more efficient way to do this?

  • Excel PivotTable : Calculated Field / Item for Period Comparison

    - by dino76
    HI All, If I have a PivotTable in Excel 2007 with a date field. I understand that I can group the date by day, month or even year using Group Field (Years & Months). If I combine with product perspective, the PivotTable may look like this Sum of Sales_Total | Column Labels Row Labels | PRODUCT-001 | PRODUCT-002 | Grand Total - 2006 | 2000 | 1500 | 3500 Jan | 1700 | 800 | 2500 Feb | 300 | 700 | 1000 - 2007 | 1000 | 1500 | 2500 Jan | 700 | 800 | 1500 Feb | 300 | 700 | 1000 - 2008 | 600 | 700 | 1300 Jan | 600 | 700 | 1300 Now, what I want to do is to compare Jan 2008 - Jan 2006 and Jan 2007 - Jan 2006. Something like this : | Column Labels | PRODUCT-001 | | ... Row Labels | Sum of Sales | Sum of Last Sales | - 2006 | 2000 | | Jan | 1700 | | Feb | 300 | | - 2007 | 1000 | 2000 | Jan | 700 | 1700 | Feb | 300 | 300 | - 2008 | 600 | 1000 | Jan | 600 | 700 | Is it possible ? If so, how to do that ? Thanks, D. Chopins

  • Data Usage Checker Tools

    - by Lucifer
Hey All, I am about to begin a project for a new client, and am worried about a few things concerning data usage on their internet plan. We're in an area where most of the major networks don't cover the area, and the ones that do, have very expensive plans, with very low data allowance per month. I need to develop an app, but part of the problem lies with checking database values every 30 seconds. It's pretty important that this check is happening every 30 seconds, as the database is actually updated all day everyday, approx. every 5seconds (apparently). Each row in the database consists of about a page full of text if you were to paste it into MS Word. So, are there any logical ways of minimizing data usage in my case, and also how am I able to see exactly how much data is used just to establish a connection to the database? Are there any tools for this kind of info? Thanks :)

  • Can't find Peopleware anywhere?

    - by ooo
Many folks say that Peopleware is one of the best books for software professionals and managers, as I see a lot of people recommending it in the "have to read list." The strange thing is that I can't find a bookstore anywhere that actually has it. I found it on Amazon, but Borders, Barnes & Nobles, etc. don't have it and keep telling me it's out of print. Can anyone shed some light on whats going on here? Amazon doesn't stock it, it says its available from a few 3rd party sellers, but I tried two of them and both of them eventually refunded me and cancelled the order after stalling for a month.

  • Copy new records from datatable and identify changes in old records

    - by Betite
    Assume there are two tables: Remote_table and My_table. Remote_table has 6 columns: **PROJECT JOB_TYPE MONTH YEAR** HOURS IS_DELETED 134393 70 1 2013 30 0 134393 70 2 2013 50 0 134393 70 3 2013 80 0 134393 70 10 2012 10 0 134393 70 11 2012 0 0 134393 70 12 2012 15 0 My_table is a copy of remote_table. I tried to copy only the new records from the remote_table by this query: SELECT * FROM [remote_DB].[LudanProjectManager].[dbo].Remote_table EXCEPT SELECT * FROM My_table It works OK but I get a duplicate primary key exception when changes have been made on the remote_table on the hours column. Can anyone think of a way to copy only the new records from remote_table and if changes has been made on old records, to identify them and update the my_table to correspond?

  • Tips for improving performance of DB that is above size 40 GB (Sql Server 2005) and growing monthly

    - by HotTester
The current DB or our project has crossed over 40 GB this month and on an average it is growing monthly by around 3 GB. Now all the tables are best normalized and proper indexing has been used. But still as the size is growing it is taking more time to fire even basic queries like 'select count(1) from table'. So can u share some more points that will help in this front. Database is Sql Server 2005. Further if we implement Partitioning wouldn't it create a overhead ? Thanks in advance.

  • What are the alternatives for Java authentication?

    - by Crusader
Preferably something that integrates well with a Flex front end. Yes the Spring Security guys say this is possible, but all examples seem to use legacy jsp tag libraries making them half useless as examples. I don't want to spend a month setting up and learning how to use a security tool. I would like a tool which supports using annotations (@RolesAllowed etc), MINIMAL XML, and 'remember-me' features (not cookie based). Apache Shiro seems to support Flex/Silverlight/Swing as well but I'd like to know if there are any other alternatives that are NOT container specific.

  • Automate downloads from password protected website

    - by Andrew
I need some help with a work project I have been assigned. At the moment we manually go to the site, logon and then download 2 excel files from a supplier's website every month. The files are then loaded into SQL. We want to automate this process. Now the loading of the files into SQL I can do, but I am not sure how I can automate logging onto the website entering my user details and collecting the files. I mostly deal with SQL and have very little .NET experience, so any code samples would be most appreciated.

  • Accepted date format changed overnight

    - by Eugene Niemand
Since yesterday I started encountering errors related to date formats in SQL Server 2008. Up until yesterday the following used to work. EXEC MyStoredProc '2010-03-15 00:00:00.000' Since yesterday I started getting out of range errors. After investigating I discovered the date as above is now being interpreted as "the 3rd of the 15th month" which will cause a out of range error. I have been able to fix this using the following format with the "T". EXEC MyStoredProc '2010-03-15T00:00:00.000' By using this format its working fine. Basically all I'm trying to find out is if there is some Hotfix or patch that could have caused this, as all my queries using the first mentioned formats have been working for months. Also this is not a setting that was changed by someone in the company as this is occurring on all SQL 2005/2008 servers

  • Implementing a 24 queue using MSMQ and WCF

    - by miker169
I am shortly starting a project, which requires messages to be held in a queue for a period of 24 hours, this is because the database can't have any updates at certain times of the month. The service also has to be hosted on windows server 2003, which means it will have to be a windows service. It is also required that the service use WCF so that in 12 months time when we move over to windows server 2008, the service can hosted in iis 7. At present I am wondering if MSMQ is the best way to handle this. I've been looking into topics like poison message handling & dead letter queues, but nothing that really covers what I am intending to actually do. Could anyone recommend a sample or a tutorial for this ? Thanks in advance
