• Keeping track of dirty blocks on a block device

  I'm looking for a way to keep track of what blocks on a block device are modified after a point in time. How I eventually want to use this for is to keep two 2TB disks in sync, one which only comes online (connected through USB) once a month. Without knowing what blocks have been modified, I have to go through the whole 2TB every time. I'm using a recent GNU/Linux OS and have C and Python experience. I'm hoping to avoid writing kernel level code as I don't have any experience in that area whatsoever. My current theory is that there should be some hooks somewhere where my code can get called when a disk flush is performed. Any ideas?

  I am new to the ASP.net and crystal reports.. I created a report using crystal reports and i used 3 parameters as Division,Month & Year. These parameters values will come from database using dropdown lists.. after selecting the parameters, report button clicked the report should come.. The code will use system installation cabal as any Haskell library. A library is released with cabal has a meta data file where there is a logical predicate from the libraries and their versions. A developer usually uses one set libraries. It tediously care a set of the sets libraries. How to know either my library is compiled successfully or not for some subset libraries?

• Convert UTC date to actual date and time

  I have a chart of bitcoin prices. I have the correct prices on the Y-axis, but I cannot get the correct time on the X-axis. The time shows up in a UTC format in my console. I am adding price and date to the series each iteration. I need to get the date of that particular result and find the YEAR, MONTH and DAY of that so I can put it in the right format. • Globally overrride MonthNames for all instances of a specific culture

  So, i have this problem where Microsoft actually got the month names wrong for the Greenlandic culture (kl-GL). I also know that i can pass my own array of string to the DateTimeFormatInfo.MonthNames Property, but it seems like the values i specify is only used in the scope of that one CultureInfo instance. Is there a way to tell .Net that every time i have an instance of the kl-GL culture these specific monthnames should be used? I know that you can create user specific cultures, but i don't have access to some legacy code to actually change the code to use a my own userspecified culture.

• CDateTimeCtrl - preventing 'focus' change when setting date

  I'd like to use a CDateTimeCtrl to allow the user to select a non-weekend date. So, if the user increments the day (via a keypress) - and the resulting day is found to fall on a weekend - then the control should skip forward to the following Monday (don't let issues about month changes distract you, it's not relevant). Usually it's not a problem: when I handle the DTN_DATETIMECHANGE notification I can check the new date/time and if it's found to be a weekend then I can call SetTime on the control to update the date. However, if I set the style to DTS_SHOWNONE, this call to SetTime causes the control to shift the input 'focus' (term used loosely) to the 'none' checkbox, e.g. away from the day field. This prevents the user from using keyboard input to continue incrementing the date unless they subsequently use the right arrow key to reset the 'focus', which is just nasty. I would dearly like to prevent this focus shift from occurring. Is it even possible?

• Implementing a 24 queue using MSMQ and WCF

  I am shortly starting a project, which requires messages to be held in a queue for a period of 24 hours, this is because the database can't have any updates at certain times of the month. The service also has to be hosted on windows server 2003, which means it will have to be a windows service. It is also required that the service use WCF so that in 12 months time when we move over to windows server 2008, the service can hosted in iis 7. At present I am wondering if MSMQ is the best way to handle this. I've been looking into topics like poison message handling & dead letter queues, but nothing that really covers what I am intending to actually do. Could anyone recommend a sample or a tutorial for this ? Thanks in advance

  Hi I have a app that works with Core Data. The data has a field with a date and I would like to show every entry of a month in a seperate section. How do I actually get the data ? • Need CSS Help with a hover element - cant extend to left and right of page

  Hi there, Need some CSS guru help. If you visit my link: http://www.gabbr.com/js/viewer/cmedata/index1.html and hover over the years (top middles, 2008, 2009, 2010, etc) you will notice an orange bar extending from the top to the bottom of the page. I am trying to get the same effect on the left (month and day) but am unable to do so. The problem I am having is that I cannot get the orange hover bar to extend off the left of the screen for either #dayleft or for #monthleft. It extends all the way to the right margin of the screen but not the left. The problem is the margin-left: 15px; in #monthleft and margin-left: 80px; in #dayleft. But I cannot get rid of these since I require them for the letter spacing. Any advice?

• Which PHP calendar will suit my needs? Or build my own?

  There are so many web based calendars out there that I'm not sure which will best suit my purposes. I want to create an events calendar, which I suppose looks and functions in much the same way as google calendar. But users shouldn't need to sign up for a gmail account or a google account. Users of my social network website should be able to create events in the calendar and share it with other friends in their "friend network". In month, year or day views, you can mouse hover events to see a bubble dialog that lists events in detail. People need to pay a monthly fee to use my website (not sure if this prevents me from using google apps). So is something like Google Calendar the way to go? Or are there other php/javascript calendars out there that already meet my needs? Or will it just save me more time to build my own?

• SSAS OLAP MDX and relationships

  I new to OLAP, and still not sure how to create a relationship between 2 or more entities. I am basing my cube on views. For simplicity sake let's call them like this: viewParent (ParentID PK) viewChild (ChildID PK, ParentID FK) these views have more fields, but they're not important for this question. in my data source, i defined a relationship between viewParent and viewChild using ParentID for the link. As for measures, i was forced to create separate measures for Parent and Child. in my MDX query however, the relationship does not seem to be enforced. If i select record count for parent, child, and add some filters for the parent, the child count is not reflecting it.. SELECT { [Measures].[ParentCount],[Measures].[ChildCount] } ON COLUMNS FROM [Cube] WHERE { ( {[Time].[Month].&[2011-06-01T00:00:00]} ,{[SomeDimension].&[Foo]} ) } the selected ParentCount is correct, but ChildCount is not affected by any of the filters (because they are parent filters). However, since i defined a relationship, how can i take advantage of that to filter children by parent filter?

• Converting delimited string to multiple values in mysql

  I have a mysql legacy table which contains an client identifier and a list of items, the latter as a comma-delimited string. E.g. "xyz001", "foo,bar,baz". This is legacy stuff and the user insists on being able to edit a comma delimited string. They now have a requirement for a report table with the above broken into separate rows, e.g. "xyz001", "foo" "xyz001", "bar" "xyz001", "baz" Breaking the string into substrings is easily doable and I have written a procedure to do this by creating a separate table, but that requires triggers to deal with deletes, updates and inserts. This query is required rarely (say once a month) but has to be absolutely up to date when it is run, so e.g. the overhead of triggers is not warranted and scheduled tasks to create the table might not be timely enough. Is there any way to write a function to return a table or a set so that I can join the identifier with the individual items on demand?

  Is there a method already part of Rails for making certain parameters option when part of a multiparameter attribute, for example say I'm prompting a user for their birthday, when saved the has may look like this: "birthday(2i)"=>"8", "birthday(3i)"=>"17", "birthday(1i)"=>"1980"}, ... But the issue arises when say I want to allow the user to just provide their month and day, making the year optional, how would this work being a datetime object, I'm assuming you can't do this as a date object... but any ideas would be helpful. • Correct expression for checking leap years

  What will be the exact definition of leap year? AFAIK "A year which is divisible by 4 is a leap year. But for century years' the years which are divisible by 400 is a leap year." But that definition makes 100, 200, 300, 400.... upto 1700 NOT LEAP years! But in Gregorian calendar all of them are all leap year, check this out. You can also try "call 1700" in Linux to verify. So the correct algorithm for leap years would be: if ( (year % 4 == 0) && ( year <= 1700 || year % 100 != 0 || year % 400 == 0 )) printf("%d is a leap year.\n", year); else printf("%d is not a leap year.\n", year); But is this specific to Gregorian calendar? • update portlet without refreshing portal page

  I'm trying to create a simple agena portlet. Now I've developed a basic one using spring-portlet-mvc, it allows you to navigate to the next and previous month with thusly named links that invoke a previousMonth or nextMonth function in my controller. Now the problem I'm having is that this navigation causes my whole page to refresh. Now I was wondering what the best way to fix this was. I've been looking around a bit and it looks like jquery/ajax will do the trick, but since I don't have any experience yet with that technology I was wondering if anyone had any pointers/better ideas to solve my problem.

  Assume there are two tables: Remote_table and My_table. I tried to copy only the new records from the remote_table by this query: SELECT * FROM [remote_DB].[LudanProjectManager].[dbo].Remote_table EXCEPT SELECT * FROM My_table It works OK but I get a duplicate primary key exception when changes have been made on the remote_table on the hours column. Can anyone think of a way to copy only the new records from remote_table and if changes has been made on old records, to identify them and update the my_table to correspond?

• git merge, git rebase none seems to work, should I delete my github fork and refork from the upstream master?

  I have to confess my github sins. 4 month ago, I forked a upstream repo, without knowing much of git and pull request, i did some work on master branch locally, later on I realized the mistake, created a new branch, and squashed the changes to one and successfully send a PR later from that branch. the PR is accepted, and I moved on. Now I need to submit another PR. But my master branch is so messed up, when I do merge, or rebase, there are so many mistakes. I probably committed a few more sins this morning. I have been battling this for the whole morning now. so it comes to the point that I want a clean start. Can I delete the github fork and refork from the upstream master? What are the correct steps?

• Compressing digitalized document images

  Hello, We are now required by law to digitalize all the financial documents in our company and submit them to evaluations every 3 months. Since this is sensitive data we decided to take matters into our own hands and build some sort of digital data archiver. The tool works perfectly, but after 7 months of usage we are begining to worry about the disk space used by these images. Here some info on the amount of documents digitalized: 15K documents scanned and archived per day, with final PNG size of +- 860KB: 15 000 * 860 kilobits = 1.53779984 gigabytes 30 days of work per month: 1.53779984 gigabytes * 30 = 46.1339952 gigabytes Expectation of disk space usage after 1 year: 46.1339952 gigabytes * 12 = 553.607942 gigabytes So far we're at 424 gigabytes of disk space used, without counting backup. We're using PNG as image format, but I would like to know if anyone have any advice on a better compression algorithm for images or alternative strategies for compressing the PNG's even more or even better ways to archive images as to save disk space. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

• Something wrong with redirects on my Joomla 1.5.18 site

  My Joomla 1.5.18 site, I enabled login, when I click login the page I get sent to is NOT styled with CSS. If I login it redirects to the home page and it is not styled anymore either. It looks like it is recursively appending stuff to the URL incorrectly. http://www.myjoomlasite.org/index.php/index.php/login if I click on home page or login links it keeps putting more and more index.php entries in the URL, and sometimes on the end. The following is what I get when I try and go to a JEvents menu item. http://www.myjoomlasite.org/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/upcomingevents/month.calendar/2010/06/09/index.php Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I don't know what to search for on Google apparently, and none of the Joomla! books I have address this.

I have everything working - and storing - properly using date_select and adding :discard_month and :discard_day. However when I render @profile.grad_year I get the month and day values. • Java or C# + XNA for some simple animations?

  I want to make a program that will involve some faces with various facial expressions. They will change from one facial expression to another based on their "mood" as influenced by user input. I know some java but I have done pretty much nothing with graphics. A friend tells me that it will be easier to do this in C# with XNA than to do it in java. I have about a month to do this, so I was hoping you folks would help me make a decision. Would I be better off figuring out how to do this in java, or learning C# and XNA and doing it in C#? Is it so much easier to do this in C# that it would be quicker to learn C# than to struggle with doing it in java? Will it probably come out looking much better if it is in C#?

• Retrieve Access Control List of Documents for Specific User on Google Docs?

  I have a large website at www.mydomain.com. There are 1000 new documents per month and 100 new users per week lets say. I need to be able to programmatically do the following: user goes to www.mydomain.com/documents user sees list of all documents they have access to (not ALL of the docs) I know you can retrieve an ACL for each document individually. But is there a way to retrieve an ACL for each "user", a list of all the documents they have access to, in one HTTP request? Something like this, but for Docs (and not just for document "owners"): Retrieving only calendars that a user owns. I'd love to know, because it seems like I'd have to parse 10,000 document "entry" tags, find the ACL, see if user is in ACL... That seems crazy. What am I missing? Thanks!

• how to calculate the beginning of a day given milliseconds?

  i want to figure out the time from the beginning of the day given a days milliseconds. so say i'm given this: 1340323100024 which is like mid day of 6/21/2012. now i want the milliseconds from the beginning of the day, which would be 1340262000000 (at least i think that's what it's supposed to be.) how do i get 1340262000000 from 1340323100024? i tried doing Math.floor(1340323100024/86400000) * 86400000 but that gives me 1340236800000, which if i create a date object out of it, says its the 20th. i know i can create a date object from 1340323100024, then get the month, year, and date, to create a new object which would give me 1340262000000, but i find it ridiculous i can't figure out something so simple. any help would be appreciated. btw, i'm doing this in javascript if it makes any difference.
