• How to get UIScrollView contentOffset during an animation

  I am trying to get the contentOffset property of a UIScrollView in the middle of a setContentOffset animation. Note I am not using the animated property of the method, but instead enclosing the setContentOffset operation within a UIView animation block so I can have finer control. When I try to read the value of contentOffset in the middle of the animation, it returns the final value rather than the value at that moment. I know that you can use the presentationLayer to get the current layer, but is there any way you can get the current offset in the middle of an animation?

  I have the following code in Java: if(!conn.isClosed()) { conn.close(); } Instead of working, I am awarded with: java.sql.SQLException: Connection already closed My connection object is a Snaq.db.CacheConnection I checked the JavaDocs for isClosed, and they state that: This method generally cannot be called to determine whether a connection to a database is valid or invalid. A typical client can determine that a connection is invalid by catching any exceptions that might be thrown when an operation is attempted. So my questions are: 1) What good is JDBC's isClosed() anyway? Since when do we use Exceptions in Java to check for validity? 2) What is the correct pattern to close a database? Should I just close and swallow exceptions? 3) Any idea why would SnaqDB be closing the connection? (My backend is a Postgres 8.3)

  Hi, On my SSAS 2008 instance if a backup/restore of any database is made to/from a UNC path I get an error : The following system error occurred from a call to GetOverlappedResult for Physical file: '\server\share\OLAPDB.abf', Logical file: '' : Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. . Server: The operation has been cancelled. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices) Creating/copying/moving a file on the share of any size on the share using explorer or the command prompt works. • Can someone explain ORA-29861 error in plain english and its possible cause?

  I have an application implemented in Grails framework using underlying Hibernate. After it runs for a while, I got an Oracle DB error and resolved it by rebuilding the offending index. I wonder if anyone can propose the possible cause(s) and ways to prevent it from happening. • Notifying iFrame page from Firefox extension?

  I'm writing a Firefox extension and need to notify an iFrame page of certain events. The iFrame page is contained within a sidebar created by the extension, and this iFrame page is controlled by me. When I load the iFrame page, the extension code needs to send a notification and trigger something to happen within the iFrame page. To accomplish this, I'm creating an event from the extension Javascript and firing the event, which the iFrame page is listening to. Unfortunately, when invoking document.createEvent(), this error pops up (copied, with the quotes, straight out of Firebug): Operation is not supported" code: "9 Any clues on the error, or suggestions on how to trigger something in an iFrame page from the extension Javascript?   I like the apparent simplicity of JdbcTemplate but am a little confused as to how it works. It appears that each operation (query() or update()) fetches a connection from a datasource and closes it. Beautiful, but how do you perform multiple SQL queries within the same connection? I might want to perform multiple operations in sequence (for example SELECT followed by an INSERT followed by a commit) or I might want to perform nested queries (SELECT and then perform a second SELECT based on result of each row). How do I do that with JdbcTemplate. Am I using the right class?

  Hi, I need some ideas for a weekend project about Hadoop and OpenStreetMap. I have access to AWS EC2 instance with OpenStreetMap snapshot in my EBS volume. The OpenStreetMap data is in a PostgreSQL database. What kind of MapReduce function can be run on the OpenStreetMap data, assuming I can export them into xml format, and then place into HDFS ? In other words, I am having a brain cramp at the moment, and cannot think what kind of MapReduce operation that can extract valuable insight from the OpenStreetMap xml? (i.e. extract all the places designated as park or golf course. But this needs to be done once only, not continuously) Many Thanks

• Threading Issue with WCF Service

  I'm new to both WCF and threading, so please bear with me. I have a WCF service set up. The service has multiple threads, all of which act upon a single array. This works without a problem so far. However, this service has a method, which, when called, will return the array. My questions: The array is serialized when it is transferred to the client by WCF. Is this a thread safe operation? In other words, can I count on WCF to block all threads from accessing this array while it's being serialized? If I can't count on WCF to do this, then how can I implement it manually? I don't really understand how WCF would facilitate this since the serialization happens after I return from my method call. How can I guarantee a thread will not modify the array after it's been returned by my method but before WCF serializes it?

When we try to integrate with apache Axis 1.3, where we tried WSDL2JAVA with the WSDL. • Linked servers SQLNCLI problem. "No transaction is active"

  Im trying to execute a stored procedure and simply insert its results in a temporary table, and I'm getting the following message: The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "MyServerName" was unable to begin a distributed transaction. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "MyServerName" returned message "No transaction is active.". My query looks like this: INSERT INTO #TABLE EXEC MyServerName.MyDatabase.dbo.MyStoredProcedure Param1, Param2, Param3 Exact column number, names, the problem is not the result. MSDTC is allowed and started in both computers, Remote procedure calling too. The machines are not in the same domain, but I can execute remote queries from my machine and get the result. I can even execute the stored procedure and see its results, I just can't insert it in another table. Help, please? :)

Am I implementing the delegate method right? (Also, I had difficulty installing the YAJL stuff for the engine, and wonder if that has something to do with it)

  I would like to resize a Java BufferedImage, making it smaller vertically but without using any type of averaging, so that if a pixel-row is "blank" (white) in the source image, there will be a white pixel-row in the corresponding position of the destination image: the "min" operation. The default algorithms (specified in getScaledInstance) do not allow me a fine-grained enough control. I would like to implement the following logic: for each pixel row in the w-pixels wide destination image, d = pixel[w] find the corresponding j pixel rows of the source image, s[][] = pixel[j][w] write the new line of pixels, so that d[i] = min(s[j][i]) over all j, i I have been reading on RescaleOp, but have not figured out how to implement this functionality -- it is admittedly a weird type of scaling. Can anyone provide me pointers on how to do this? In the worse case, I figure I can just reserve the destination ImageBuffer and copy the pixels following the pseudocode, but I was wondering if there is better way.

• Question with R. Element wise multiplication, addition, and division with 2 data.frames with varying

  I have a various data.frames with columns of the same length where I am trying to multiple 2 rows together element-wise and then sum this up. What I would like to do is skip the multiplication with any missing values ( the 10th and 11th position from my above example), and then after the addition divide by the number of elements that were multiplied (11 from the above example).   Anyone know of a simple way of converting the RGBint value returned from <BufferedImage> getRGB(i,j) into a greyscale value? I was going to simply average the RGB values by breaking them up using this; int alpha = (pixel >> 24) & 0xff; int red = (pixel >> 16) & 0xff; int green = (pixel >> 8) & 0xff; int blue = (pixel) & 0xff; and then average red,green,blue. But i feel like for such a simple operation I must be missing something...

Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.". Msg 7333, Level 16, State 2, Line 2 Cannot fetch a row using a bookmark from OLE DB provider "VFPOLEDB" for linked server "util". I have the latest version (9.0) installed so I should have the latest provider. Am I doing something wrong? Is it not possible to update VFP from SQL?

• Servlet stops working on Tomcat server after some hits or time

  I have a very strange issue with some of my servlets. Below is my configuration: Folder A has X number of servlets deployed in Tomcat directory Folder B has Y number of servlets deployed in Tomcat directory After certain amount of time or hits to any of the servlets in Folder B, it stops working properly, whereas at same time all servlets of Folder A works fine. I am not able to trace where I am doing mistake. All coding for both folder's servlets is the same, the only difference is they are interacting with different DB's, but it is very simple read only operation with DB though. Any ideas?

• WCF - Passing CurrentPrincipal in the Header

  I have a WCF service that needs to know the Principal of the calling user. In the constructor of the service I have: Principal = OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageHeaders.GetHeader<MyPrincipal>("myPrincipal", "ns"); and in the calling code I have something like: using (var factory = new ChannelFactory<IMyService>(localBinding, endpoint)) { var proxy = factory.CreateChannel(); using (var scope = new OperationContextScope((IContextChannel)proxy)) { var customHeader = MessageHeader.CreateHeader("myPrincipal", "ns", Thread.CurrentPrincipal); OperationContext.Current.OutgoingMessageHeaders.Add(customHeader); newList = proxy.CreateList(); } } This all works fine. My question is, how can I avoid having to wrap all proxy method calls in the using (var scope...{ [create header and add to OperationContext]? Could I create a custom ChannelFactory that will handle adding the myPrincipal header to the operation context? Something like that would save a whole load of copy/paste which I'd rather not do but I'm not sure how to achieve it:) Thanks

Module Level Delegate Sub GetPartListDataFromServer(ByVal dvOriginal As DataView, ByVal ProgramID As Integer) Dim dlgGetPartList As GetPartListDataFromServer The following code I use in a method Dim dlgGetPartList As New GetPartListDataFromServer(AddressOf AsyncThreadMethod_GetPartListDataFromServer) dlgGetPartList.BeginInvoke(ucboPart.DataSource, ucboProgram.Value, AddressOf AsyncCallback_GetPartListDataFromServer, Nothing) The method runs and does what it needs to The Asyn callback is fired upon completion where I do an EndInvoke Sub AsyncCallback_GetPartListDataFromServer(ByVal ar As IAsyncResult) dlgGetPartList.EndInvoke(Nothing) End Sub It works as long as the method that starts the BeginInvoke on the delegate only ever runs while there is not a BeginInvoke/Thread operation already running. Problem is that the a new thread could be invoked while another thread on the delegate is still running and hasnt yet been EndInvoke'd. The program needs to be able to have the delegate run in more than one instance at a time if necessary and they all need to complete and have EndInvoke called. Once I start another BeginInvoke I lose the reference to the first BeginInvoke so I am unable to clean up the new thread with an EndInvoke. What is a clean solution and best practice to overcome this problem?

  Given these two images from twitter. http://a3.twimg.com/profile_images/130500759/lowres_profilepic.jpg http://a1.twimg.com/profile_images/58079916/lowres_profilepic.jpg I want to download them to local filesystem & store them in a single directory. How shall I overcome name conflicts ? In the example above, I cannot store them as *lowres_profilepic.jpg*. My design idea is treat the URLs as opaque strings except for the last segment. What algorithms (implemented as f) can I use to hash the prefixes into unique strings. f( "http://a3.twimg.com/profile_images/130500759/" ) = 6tgjsdjfjdhgf f( "http://a1.twimg.com/profile_images/58079916/" ) = iuhd87ysdfhdk That way, I can save the files as:- 6tgjsdjfjdhgf_lowres_profilepic.jpg iuhd87ysdfhdk_lowres_profilepic.jpg I don't want a cryptographic algorithm as it this needs to be a performant operation.

• Is there any difference between null and 0 when assigning to pointers in unsafe code?

  This may seem odd, but in C (size_t)(void*)0 == 0 is not guaranteed by the language spec. Compilers are allowed to use any value they want for null (although they almost always use 0.) In C#, you can assign null or (T*)0 to a pointer in unsafe code. Is there any difference? (long)(void*)0 == 0 (guaranteed or not? put another way: IntPtr.Zero.ToInt64() == 0) MSDN has this to say about IntPtr.Zero: "The value of this field is not equivalent to null." Well if you want to be compatible with C code, that makes a lot of sense - it'd be worthless for interop if it didn't convert to a C null pointer. But I want to know if IntPtr.Zero.ToInt64() == 0 which may be possible, even if internally IntPtr.Zero is some other value (the CLR may or may not convert null to 0 in the cast operation) Not a duplicate of this question
