Visual studio is doing some magic to replace it during compile/build time with the full assembly signature. The following apply to these tokens or replaceable parameters - Tokens can be specified anywhere in a line. Tokens cannot span multiple lines. The same token may be specified multiple times on the same line and in the same file. Different tokens may be specified on the same line. Tokens that do not follow these rules are ignored without providing a warning or error. • When to reply 400 Bad Request

  According to www.w3.org, a Web server should reply with status code 400 Bad Request if: "The request could not be understood by the server due to malformed syntax. The client SHOULD NOT repeat the request without modifications" Does that mean only request that violates some HTTP spec? Or does it include a request that my particular Web app thinks is broken? When would you reply 400? For example, if my Web app expects a query string to always include a "function=..." parameter, would you reply code 400 Bad Request or 403 Forbidden? (403 means that "The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it.")

• Passing Parameters Between Web-Services and JSF Pages

  This is another quick demo that shows a common scenario that combines several demos I did in the past. The scenario – we have two web services, one returns a list of objects, the other allows us to update an object. We want to build a page flow where the first page shows us the list of objects, allows us to select one, and then we can edit that instance in the next page and call the second web service to update our data source. The demo shows: How to select a row and save the object value in a pageFlowScope. (using setPropertyListener). • Is having a class have a handleAction(type) method bad practice?

  My web application became a little too complicated to do everything in a controller so I had to build large wrapper classes for ORM models. The possible actions a user can trigger are all similar and after a certain point I realized that the best way to go would be to just have constructor method receive action type as a parameter to take care of the small differences internally, as opposed to either passing many arguments or doing a lot of things in the controller. Is this a good practice? I can't really give details for privacy issues.

  After coding for many years as a solo programmer, I have come to feel that most of the time there are many benefits to write private member functions with all of the used member variables included in the parameter list, especially development stage. This allow me to check at one look what member variables are used and also allow me to supply other values for tests and debugging. Also, a change in code by removing a particular member variable can break many functions. In this case however, the private function remains isolated am I can still call it using other values without fixing the function. Is this a bad idea afterall, especially in a team environment? Is it like redundant or confusing, or are there better ways?

• Tracking AdWord ads with different text in Google Analytics

  I'm trying to see how the text in my Google AdWords ads affects my metrics in Analytics. I have auto-linking enabled, so I figured I would be able to automatically see this in Analytics. Unfortunately, if I try to add a second dimension of Traffic Sources-Ad Content, the metrics are only split by the ad's Headline. Most of my tests are changing only the ads' descriptions... So I guess I need to add a tracking parameter like ?campaign=special_text to my URLs? Or is there a way to see the ads split by ad descriptions? Should I add the full suite of utm_campaign/utm_medium/etc parameters? What's the proper way to track these ads which are mostly similar except the ad descriptions?

• Strange 401 (Unauthorized) when calling a WCF Service

  A WCF Service we call from BizTalk using WCF BasicHTTP usually works fine but all of a sudden it started returning 401 errors for some calls while others continued working as expected so it could not have been a "real" 401. The difference was the size of the message. One parameter of the service is a rather complex object. In the cases we got a 401 it got quite big (containing a lot of customer-data), say 5 MB. So we turned on tracking. The messages we traced out where about 20MB. Not too big for WCF one should suppose... A bit of research led us to increasing maxItemsInObjectGraph in the behaviours but that did not help. The service we call is in the same network as we are and is a WCF service. So we tried changing from BasicHTTP to net.tcp and Bingo! Ok, we had to use CustomBinding in BizTalk to set all the Quotas, etc. but it worked in the end.

  When I co-oped during college, I had to fill out an evaluation of the co-op afterwards. One metric I always had to rate was how much the company required me to "Make ethical decisions related to your profession." This always seemed kinda silly- I mean, my first co-op was writing java apps to manage industrial radios. There wasn't much moral ambiguity going on. Anyway, I'm wonder what sort of ethical dilemmas one might actually encounter in software development. Edit: It should be noted that no ethically-trained software engineer would ever consent to write a DestroyBaghdad procedure.   Imagine that I have this context: A main view containing a table containing some cells. Each one of them with their own controller and view files. In the main view, I have an object "Person", with 3 different IDs. Depending on certain conditions (let say, time of the day), I have to choose one of them and display it in the cell. My question is, should the main view pass the whole object to the table, and this one to the cell, and the cell will calculate the ID that it will be shown? or, The main view calculates this parameter, and send the result to the table and this to the cell? Is a question focused on OO design, which one of this approaches is more suitable in an OO design and why?

• How to check last changes in filesystem or directory with bash?

  After the system unmounted the root partition I detected that some files are missing in the filesystem. wifi and the gwibber icons disappeared from the indicator applet I want to check if there are other files missing using the ls program and the locate program, which woks on indexes of a previous state of the filesystem. Thus, locate '/usr/share/icons/*' | xargs ls -d 2>&1 >/dev/null serves for that purpose, and I can count the nonexistent files like this: locate '/usr/share/icons/*' | xargs ls -d 2>&1 >/dev/null | wc -l except for the case where filenames have blank spaces in them; and, not very surprisingly, that is the case with Ubuntu (OMG!! It is no longer "forbidden" like in good old times). If I use: locate '/usr/share/icons/*' | xargs -Iñ ls -d 'ñ' 2>&1 >/dev/null it is not working because there is some kind of interference in the syntax between the redirections of the standard outputs and the use of the parameter -I. Can anyone please help me with this syntax or giving another idea?

• Keep getting messages about internal system errors

  I keep getting popups about internal system errors (see screenshot below) on irregular intervals (several times a day), that I don't know what to do about. If I continue through the dialog and try to report the error back to the Ubuntu project, I get a message stating that development on this version of Ubuntu has been completed, and that I should ask for help here if I don't know what to do about it. I don't. If I show the details of the error message, the "executable path" parameter shows /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py. Is this a bug I should report to Launchpad, or just a configuration error somewhere? If it's a bug, how do I collect the data I (and the devs) need? Update in response to comment: I am running an ASUS N53SN, sporting an Intel Core i7 2630QM CPU and an NVidia GeForce 550M GPU.

• How to reduce errors in dynamic language such as python, and improve my code quality

  I post the origin question in stackoverflow, some people suggest me to post here I've always have trouble with dynamic language like Python. Several problems: Typo error, I can use pylint to reduce some of these errors. But there's still some errors that pylint can not figure out. Object type error, I often forgot what type of the parameter is, int? str? some object? Also, forgot the type of some object in my code. Unit test might help me sometimes, but I'm not always have enough time to do UT. When I need a script to do a small job, the line of code are 100 - 200 lines, not big, but I don't have time to do the unit test, because I need to use the script as soon as possible. So, many errors appear. So, any idea on how to reduce the number of these problems?

  I have an abstract class which has all abstract methods except one which constructs objects of the subclasses. Now my mentor asked me to move this abstract class to an interface. Having an interface is no problem except with the method used to construct subclass objects. Where should this method go now? Also, I read somewhere that interfaces are more efficient than abstract classes. Is this true? • Instruct Ubuntu to boot TORAM from flash drive using unetbootin

  I have used UNetbootin to create an installable / live bootable flash drive from Ubuntu 12.04. However that didn't preserve the normal Ubuntu boot menu which allows to me to enter advanced options. It has a custom menu that I can pick from predefined choices like "Install Ubuntu" and "Try Ubuntu without installing". What I would like is to be able to boot from the USB flash drive, but then be able to remove it from the computer once the desktop has loaded. The laptop I would like to use this on does not have a CD/DVD drive. What do I need to modify on the flash drive to add an option to "Try Ubuntu (RAM)" that passes the TORAM=yes parameter to the initrd options? Are their other things I need to touch/change as well? Bonus: I would guess the answer would also allow for other options like acpi=off as well, but if it is different I would appreciate having that answer too.

  Sometimes I find myself writing comments on class methods like this: class A : public Base { public: /** * Sets variable; * should be called before ImplementsInterfaceMtehod(), * else has no effect. */ void SetSomeVariable( var_type value ); virtual void ImplementsInterfaceMethod(); } The callers of Base::ImplementsInterfaceMethod obviously do not know about the variable, and should not. But the users of A should set the variable if they want it to take effect. It is not required to set the variable (else it could be a parameter for the constructor), so I cannot throw exceptions in ImplementsInterfaceMethod if it is not set. Is this a sign of some typical bad practice? Is there a better way than writing a comment as shown to deal with this?

  The first approaches in animation for my game relied mostly on sine and cosine functions with the time as parameter. Here is an example of a very basic jump I implemented. if(jumping) { height = sin(time); if(height < 0) jumping = false; // player landed player.position.z = height; } if(keydown(SPACE) && !jumping) { jumping = true; time = now(); // store the starting time } So my player jumped in a perfect sine function. That seems quite natural, because he slows down when he reached the top position, and in the fall he speeds up again. But patching every animation out of sine and cosine is stretched to its limits soon. So can I improve my animation and provide a more abstract layer?

• What is the difference between Constant Vertex Attributes and Uniforms?

  According to the OpenGL ES 2.0 Programming Guide: A constant vertex attribute is the same for all vertices of a primitive, and therefore only one value needs to be specified for all the vertices of a primitive. For uniforms the book states: ...any parameter to a shader that is constant across either all vertices or fragments (but that is not known at compile time) should be passed in as a uniform. I've always used uniforms for data that is constant for a primitive but now it appears that attributes can also be used in the same way. Is there more to constant vertex attribute than simply 'they are the same as uniforms'?

  Is there a known 'most efficient' algorithm for AABB vs Ray collision detection? I recently stumbled accross Arvo's AABB vs Sphere collision algorithm, and I am wondering if there is a similarly noteworthy algorithm for this. One must have condition for this algorithm is that I need to have the option of querying the result for the distance from the ray's origin to the point of collision. having said this, if there is another, faster algorithm which does not return distance, then in addition to posting one that does, also posting that algorithm would be very helpful indeed. Please also state what the function's return argument is, and how you use it to return distance or a 'no-collision' case. For example, does it have an out parameter for the distance as well as a bool return value? or does it simply return a float with the distance, vs a value of -1 for no collision? (For those that don't know: AABB = Axis Aligned Bounding Box)

The bug causes the following exception to be thrown: System.InvalidProgramException: JIT Compiler encountered an internal limitation. This occurs under the following circumstances: Type being tested is internal or private Method being tested is generic  Method being tested has an out parameter Type accessor functionality used to access the internal type The exception is not thrown if the InternalsVisibleToAttribute is assigned to the source assembly and the accessor type is not used; nor is it thrown if the method is not a generic method. • Framework Folders and Duplicate File Names

  I have been working with Framework folders a little bit in the past few days and found one unexpected behavior that is different from Contribution Folders (Folders_g). If you try and check a file into a Framework Folder that already exists in the folder it will allow it and rename the file for you. In Folders_g this would have generated an error and prevented you from checking in the file. A quick check of the Framework Folder configuration settings in the Application Administrator’s Guide for Content Server does not show a configuration parameter to control this. I'm still thinking about this and not sure if I like this new behavior or not. I guess from a user perspective this more closely aligns Framework Folders to how Windows handle duplicate file names, but if you are migrating from Folders_g and expect a duplicate file name to be rejected, this might cause you some problems.

• Left-click button inconsistently clicks in Lubuntu

  Just recently installed Lubuntu 12.10 on my Samsung N130 netbook, and left-clicking only works every once in a while. Here is the output from synclient, if it helps. Before changing MaxTapTime to 0, tapping to click worked fine. Clicking with hardware button worked fine on previous versions of Ubuntu before switching to Lubuntu on same computer.
