• Permissions depending on parameters passed to application

  I have a java app that writes to a very important table I have. This is sudo protected, but this app takes a parameters for where the output should go. The default is the REAL DEAL but the "output" parameter takes priority over the default, so if a user provides a path that they have write permission for, say: /home/username/mystuff then I would like for users to be allowed to write to these directories. The app is launched in a shell script, so I am wondering if I can check that the string does not equal /path/to/real/deal and not empty (since /path/to/real/deal is the default) and allow users to write to places they have permissions for. My impression of linux permissions is that it is tied to the application itself and cannot be conditionally approved, but I wonder if there is some bash fu or alternative method I can perform to get me my desired result.   I need to simulate the behavior of the keyboard shortcut (ALT+F4) using Terminal for a given application. If I open for example gedit and click ALT + F4 , then GEDIT will be xkilled. If I want to achieve same thing using Terminal, how should I proceed?   I remember I once composed a FPS viewing transformation, as a composition of 3 rotations, each with an angle as a parameter. The first angle specified the left/right rotation around the y-axis, the second angle the up/down rotation around the x-axis, and the third around the z-axis. The viewing transformation was therefore specified by 3 angles. Naturally, this transformation had a gimbal lock, depending in what order the transformation were performed. What should I look at to derive my viewing transformation without the gimbal lock? I know the "lookAt" method already, but I consider that cumbersome. EDIT: MY first guess is to do the first 2 transformations to get a viewing direction and then the axis-angle rotation on this axis.

• Simple script - execute command on selected file

  I want to make a script that will execute .jar file on selected file. Later I will add that script to right-click menu via the tool Nautilus Actions or just place it into nautilus-scripts folder. I have a problem creating script. When I am in a usual console screen and want to execute this jar file on any other file, I use this syntax myfile.jar ./someotherfile.xml and the jar file will write the output to the console screen. So I created a file script.sh, added lines in it #!/bin/bash /home/username/myfile.jar $1 But it does not output anything. I know I am doing something wrong. Please help. To sum, I need a script that will use selected file as a parameter, open the gnome-terminal, inside that terminal it will start JAR file and pass it the selected file. I am confident that this is a very simple procedure, but I am total newbie with shell scripting.

• YouTube fullscreen not displaying

  For some reason YouTube videos in my website do not get the fullscreen button, even if I added the parameter allowFullScreen set to true both in the object and embed tag. The allowFullScreen param is there, but the button won't show. • How can I use a CanoScan N640Pex scanner over a USB/parallel cable?

  I have an old CanoScan N640Pex flat bed scanner and a USB-to-parallel port cable through which I can connect it to my PC. Unfortunately neither Simple Scan nor XSane detect the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 (plus updates and backports) with kernel 3.2.0-31-generic. dmesg tells me this when I plus the cable in: [256411.641910] usb 7-1: new full-speed USB device number 10 using uhci_hcd [256411.872392] usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 10 if 0 alt 1 proto 2 vid 0x067B pid 0x2305 [256411.872417] usbcore: registered new interface driver usblp lsusb shows this device for my cable: Bus 007 Device 010: ID 067b:2305 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port The device node created is /dev/usb/lp0 crw-rw---- 1 root lp 180, 0 Sep 9 17:46 /dev/usb/lp0 There is no extra information from any of these commands when I attach the scanner to the cable and power it on, though. I suspect I might need to change something in /etc/sane.d/canon_pp.conf, but I have no idea what to put for the ieee1284 line, since there is pretty much zero documentation for that parameter. So how can I get it to work?

  I'm going through some training on objective-c. The trainer suggests setting single character parameter names. The .NET developer in me is crying. Is this truly the convention? Why? For example, @interface Square : NSObject { int size; } -(void)setSize: (int)s; I've seen developers using underscores int _size to declar variables (I think people call the variable declared in @interface ivar for some unknown reason). Personally, I prefer to use descriptive names. E.G. @interface Square : NSObject { int Size; } -(void)setSize: (int)size; C, like C# is case sensitive. So why don't we use the same convention as .NET?

  having problems with my new lenovo x230 - using dual montiors, only vga registers anything. This has the Intel graphics controller : 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller (rev 09) TO get it to even boot, had to add the nomodeset parameter to the kernel. Otherwise will not even start up X Ive upgraded my kernel to the latest 3.6 with no difference. The display section reads the monitor as the only display and labels it as laptop. Cant seem to get it to work! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  it's couple of months I've been using SH404SEF With my site. But in my site I'm getting url's in the form: http://www.downloadformsindia.com/Income-Tax-Forms/all-income-tax-return-itr-forms-2010-2011.html?task=view If I remove this suffix(?task=view), it takes us to the same page. I had raised this issue in SH404SEF forum, and I was told that this data is taken as parameter by search engines hence ignored. I want to redirect using RewriteMatch in .htaccess all such url's to the url's without ?task=view ones : ....downloadformsindia.com/Income-Tax-Forms/all-income-tax-return-itr-forms-2010-2011.html?task=view to be redirected to http://www.downloadformsindia.com/Income-Tax-Forms/all-income-tax-return-itr-forms-2010-2011.html So my question is: Will this redirection create 404's in the Google webmaster. I've thousand's of pages in the site

How do I tell httpd.conf to handle those properly as well?   Yesterday I setup TFS for my .NET playground website to implement continuous integration and deployments. After a successful build I noticed that debug symbols(pdb files) were generated even though TFS is configured to build in Release mode.  After a bit of analysis its turned out to be the behavior of TFS to generate debug symbols (pdb files) until we pass the attribute DebugType = None. Here are the steps to pass DebugType parameter to MSBuild of TFS Go to Team Explorer Select Build Defintion >> Edit Build Definition Switch to Process tab Navigate to Advanced Section and locate MSBuild Arguments Add the following: /p:Configuration=Release /p:DebugType=none

  Ok, the title might be a little misleading. I have a Window class that draws widgets inside itself in the constructor. The widgets are all of the same type. So I pass a list of dictionaries, which contain the parameters for each widget. This works quite nicely, but I am worried that the interface to callers is obfuscated. That is, in order to use Window, one has to study the class, construct a correct list of dictionaries, and then call the constructor with only one parameter - widgets_params. Is this good or bad design? What alternatives does the python syntax provide?

  Is it possible to create a terminal application which uses cocos2d? I've tried to make one using cocos2d 2.x, but it requires a MacGLView to be initialized. I need it so that I could program a terminal application that generates a screenshot given a TMX file and an optional preferred width or height parameter (for resizing). Then I can automate the generation of map previews for my game, instead of manually taking screenshots. It's not practical to load the actual TMX and resize it inside the game (what I'm currently doing), because each TMX file has 7 layers, my tile sheet is huge, and I have lots of levels.

It builds upon the first milestone and adds several new features such as server-side asynchronous processing, server-side content negotiation, improved JAX-RS parameter injection, and several others. The REST endpoints can be published on Java SE HTTP Server, Grizzly 2 HTTP container, and some basic Servlet-based deployments. It also provides HTTPURLConnection-based client API implementation.   I managed to get as far as optirun glxgear, which worked perfectly, but I am unable to define settings for a specific shell script. In its wiki it says this: optirun [options] <application> [application-parameters] and I don't know what option has to be nor the application-parameter. (I'm really new) If my file is /home/hon/hon.sh, how can I execute it via terminal? If I just type optirun hon or optirun hon.sh it shows this error: /usr/bin/vglrun: 296: exec: hon: not found there I try to find the file /usr/bin/vglrun.   I am developing a tool for simulating systems like the Gray-Scott model (That is systems where spatial distribution depends on time). The actual model is loaded from a DLL or shared object and the simulation is performed by a Simulation object. There are at least two situations when the simulation needs to be destroyed: The user loads a new model The user changes the size of the domain To make sure nothing goes wrong, the current Model, Simulation, and rendering Thread are all managed by an ApplicationState object. But the two cases above are initiated from two different UI objects. Is it then ok to distribute a reference to the ApplicationState object to all panels that need to access at least one method on the ApplicationState object? Another solution would be to use aggregation so that the panel from which the user chooses model knows the simulation parameter panel. Also, the ApplicationState class seems somewhat clumsy, so I would like to have something else

• JMeter: how to asign a single distinct value from CSV Data Set Config to each thread in thread group?

  I have to make a load test for a relatively large number of users so I cant realy use User Parameters pre-processor to parametrize each thread with custom user data. I've read that I should use CSV Data Set Config instead. However I run into a problem with how JMeter interprets the input of this Config. Example: I have a thread group of 3 threads and Loop Count:10 with one HTTP request sampler with server www.example.com and path: \${user}. The csv file (bullet is a single line in file) for CSV Data Set Config to extract the user parameter: 1 2 3 4 5 Expected output is that for thread 1-x the path of the request should be: \x. So the output file should consist of 10 samples per thread namely: for thread 1-1 : 10 requests to www.example.com\1 for thread 1-2 : 10 requests to www.example.com\2 for thread 1-3 : 10 requests to www.example.com\3 but instead i get requests to each \1 - \5 and then to EOF. Does anyone know how to achieve the expected effect with CSV Data Set Config in jmeter 2.9?

• Framework for interaction between web-page and server-side script

  I want to make a web-page that will have several controls elements, among which there are elements like check-boxes, radio-buttons, "range selectors" (one can specify the min and max value, like it is done when you select range for prices in the online markets). The new values shall be sent to the "server-side", once changed (without any Submit buttons etc), and the "server-side" can return something (one or more numbers, etc). Does anyone know a good ajax-like framework that allows (with minimal adaptation / changes) to make such solution in an easy way? It will be good if the server-side of existing solution will be in Perl (not a big deal, but I know it much better than PHP or something else). Set of controls might change and depend on other parameter, so adding one extra element should not cause rewriting the whole thing. P.S.: I haven't working in this area for quite a while, so not aware of existing solutions in this area, and don't want to invent the wheel and write everything from scratch for something that already exist (at least, I hope so).   In an ASP.NET MVC project (Razor), I have a Get request, which loads two properties on a model, dependent on the property passed into the action method. So if the parameter has a value, the Group property is supplied data. But if not, the Groups collection property is supplied data. In the post action method, when I process the data, to repopulate the view, I have to provide similar logic, and could getaway with returning Action(param) (the get response) to the caller. My question is, based on experience, is that a good practice to get into? I see some downsides to doing that, but adds the lack of code redundancy. Or is there a better alternative?
