• Set Up Of Common Name Of SSL Certificate To Protect Plesk Panel

  A PCI Compliance scanner is balking that the self signed SSL certificate protecting secure access to Plesk Panel contains a name mismatch between the location of the Plesk Panel and the name on the certificate, namely the self-signed cert's name is "Parallels" and the domain to reach Plesk is 'ip address:8443'. So I figured I would go ahead and get a free SSL certificate to try to fiddle with this error. But when I generated the certificate I used my server domain name as the site name when I generated the certificate. So if I visit 'domain name:8443' all is fine, no ssl warning. But if I visit 'ip address:8443' (which I believe is what the scanner does) I get the certificate name mismatch error, Digicert's ssl checker says that the certificate name should be the ip address. Can I even generate a certificate whose common name is the ip address? I am tempted to say I should just do what the PCI scanner accepts, but what is really the correct common name to use? Anybody run into this issue before?

  I'm working on a an open-source community-oriented project which needs a highly social component where users can post discussion topics and questions and interact with each other. It would be ideal to facilitate discussion seamlessly between a bulletin board and Facebook. Has anyone seen such an integration? I'm talking about something that goes beyond a simple FB OAuth and actually synchronizes both forum posts / topics / OAuth / comments. Pretty please if a moderator is going to delete this tell me which StackExchange forum is the appropriate place for posting such an inquiry. :)

• Preventing adult content in a forum

  I'm working on a forum that allows images attached to the posts and doesn't require registration. Thing is, I'd like to provide a work-safe navigation option in which the posts with porn images attached aren't shown. The ideas I've come up with are: Making the work-safe option the default and treating all posts with images attached as pornographic, and making them visible only if the user "unchecks" it. Making all posts with images attached not work-safe by default and changing their status to work-safe only after a moderator approved it. Only then they would be visible if the user has the "work-safe" option checked. Does anyone else have an idea? Also, how the big web services deal with this? (YouTube, CraigsList, even StackExchange). By the way, I don't think that "nudity detector" libraries are accurate and they give plenty of false positives and negatives. Thanks!

• Best way to let users choose country/language when submiting an URL to a directory

  Hi all, I want to offer the user the possibility to add the country/language for websites they would submit to a fairly simple website directory. I have a folder with flags from http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/flags/ . The flag images are named according to the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes, meaning that I could make a PHP script that would be able to retrieve images and the name of the country retrieved from the image name (not the full name, but it wouldn't be necessary). Just to make things clearer, I couldn't find a proper combo-box jQuery plugin for my needs (that would act exactly like the native but with an icon before the text) and don't really have the time to develop one on my own. Considering the number of images, I also wouldn't just display them all with a radio box near them. Also, having a classic drop-down list would be a nightmare for me as I would have to assign the short country name manually to each entry, or do it once for every country. Offering the user a dropdown list with the short country names but no flag near them would also be unfriendly and confusing. The idea is that every website featured in the directory would have the country flag icon near it. I have the images named properly but I don't know how to let the user choose the right image for their website. Any idees? Thank you all in advance! • Video monetising and simple shop, platform?

  I have this client that wants a single-product website. The product is a training-video that they want to deliver virtually and optionally physically. I usually do all the front-end design and back-end development but the budget is close to $0 to start with. So I'm looking for a platform like shopify or something where a shop/cart can be set up quickly and simply with minimal up-front cost - but which can accomodate some kind of paywall (DRM too?) for the online video with an option to purchase for an aditional cost the physical DVD. Am I approaching the wrong way all together? Or do you know of any platform that will accomodate the specs?

  I have an internal (intranet) site that is comprised of several blogs and forums, hundreds of static pages, lots of PDF files and several other document types. Its been glued together loosely over the last couple of years and now its my job to maintain it. I'm looking for a search engine that I can host myself that ideally: Allows for searching the Blog / Forum databases directly if given the database information and tables to search. Handles most text documents (PDF/DOC/ODF) Is open source, or allows access to the source code once purchased It doesn't matter to me what language or platform it is written in. Normally, I'd just use Google site search, but that's not an option for an intranet.

• Internet Explorer and margins

To push the tabs down from the userbar I am using margin-top: 35px; However in internet explorer the tabs are completly misaligned(the top of the tabs is where the bottom should be). So I need to use margin-top: -50px; for internet explorer.   I run a few blogs on topics like programming, linux tips and network security. I noticed the following: Till last year had only 1 blog that had posts on PHP, linux tips, network security etc. The AdSense RPM was around 1.00. Then I split the content into 3 separate blogs, one focused on web development/PHP/MySQL. second one focused on Linux/Windows how-tos and tips and third one focused on network security and related network topics. The Adsense RPM rose significantly for 2 blogs, and was 1.38 (PHP blog), 0.87 (tech tips blog) and 1.90 (network security blog). In the month of april 2013 the site on network security had the highest traffic and the Adsense income of that site was twice that of all three sites combined previously. My question is simple, does focusing on one topic lead to higher CPC/CPM?

• apache domain redirect to subfolder

  I have a hosting account with godaddy. Its a linux system running apache. The way they do their setup is your primary domain is the root folder. When you add a subdomain its in a subfolder of the root which sucks. I want to setup a subfolder structure to organize my domains.. I called godday support and they said to use redirects.. but did not know how to do that.. How its setup now: primary domain: www.domain.com / sub.domain.com /sub I want to create a directory structure and then redirect to each but only show www.domain.com in the url www.domain.com /domain/www sub.domain.com /domain/sub I tried using: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?domain.com$ RewriteRule ^(/)?$ domain/www [L] but it just changes the url to www.domain.com/domain/www Can this be done in htaccess?

  Hi folks, currently all my php generated rich html webpages start with this line, which I have been adding to my tempaltes YEARS ago... <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> Am I still up to date and 2011-proof? or Should I be changing this into something fasterloaden/more agile/more flexible? I have heard of XHTML 1.1. When I remove this line all still works fine. Is it very much needed still? What are my alternatives? Thanks very much for your suggestions.

  Is it possible to render and style a <title> element from within the <head> of an html document? I thought it was impossible to render information from the <head>, but the system status page for 37signals.com seems to be doing just that - http://status.37signals.com/. If you inspect the element at the very top of the page, the text that reads "37signals System Status", you'll see that the part of the DOM that is generating the text is the <head>'s <title>, and the css is as follows: title { display: block; margin: 10px auto; max-width: 840px; width: 100%; padding: 0 20px; float: left; color: black; text-rendering: optimizelegibility; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; box-sizing: border-box; } Can someone confirm that the <title> info from the <head> is indeed what is being rendered? If so, can someone point to documentation that defines this capability as I have not found any? I have applied the above css to an html document on my local web server using the same browser (chromium, os x 10.8.5) as the 37signals site was viewed on, yet my file did not display the <head>'s <title>.

• SSL and green address bar

  I am new to SSL so can someone explain why my address bar turns green when I'm on certain sites beginning with https:// and sometimes it doesn't even though I know the site has SSL? Maybe these two nuances are not even related, but if I go to GoDaddy and order a new domain I notice their address bar is green the entire time I'm using the https:// protocol, but then I go to Victoria's Secret to place an order and even though it says https:// the address bar doesn't turn green.

• Google webmaster Index Status. Total Indexed=0

  I previously changed my domain from www.visualstudiolearn.blogspot.com to www.visualstudiolearn.com... i had around 300 posts with the previous domain name and most of them where showing up on Google. Now that i have changed my domain name the index status shows total indexed as 0 and when i go to the advanced tab it says 304(not selected) and 217 blocked my robots. Im really depressed because of this situation. could you please help out???

It is difficult to describe and if there is a better description I could Google for, please let me know! Basically, I want to start with a few options for a user to click on and then change what comes next based on that click and be able to do this through a whole walk through (explaining how to set a service up). • Problem with homepage's SEO when using subfolders in a multi language website

  After watching a hundreds of threads about multilanguage website I haven't found an answer to my specific problem, so I think its not a common issue and I must have done something terribly wrong ;-) We have a brand.com website in DE main language and the following subfolders: /de/ = canonical of / + redirect to / /it/ /en/ When I crawl google.com for EN keywords or google.it for IT keywords then I get as results the homepage in German language (both title and description) as the top result with no trace of the /it/ or the /en/ homepage. Is this because /it/ and /en/ both needs a separate link building strategy? I've already configured Google webmaster tool into the following way: brand.com, no language preference brand.com/de/, de language brand.com/it/, it language brand.com/en/, en language Perhaps having "/" as DE main page is it wrong and I should use a different approach? i.e. like having "/" to be a 301 to /de/ instead ? • Google authorship verification issue

  I'm trying to get my blog content author verified so my face gets into the Google search results. I managed to achieve this a few weeks back - When testing my content in the Google authorship testing tool it reported that I had been verified and I could see my mug in the results. All I had to do was wait a couple of weeks before I started popping up in the search results (I think(?)). However, I seem to have thrown a spanner in the works. I set up Google apps for my domain and merged my old Google+ profile into my google apps account. This seemed to reset my Google+ profile (no biggy, since it was a new profile and only had 1 connection). I re-set up my G+ account and tied it all in to my blog and it's content. I am now seeing some very strange behaviour. If you take a look at one of my blog posts through the snippet testing tool: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?url=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.fraser-hart.co.uk%2Fjquery-fullscreen-background-slideshow%2F&html= You will see that it is not recognising me as an author. However, when you enter my profile URL (https://plus.google.com/108765138229426105004) into the "Authorship verification by email" input, you will see that it does in fact recognise it as verified. Now, if you try and verify the same page again, it reverts back to unverified. I thought I may have to just wait it out but this has been over a week now and previously (before I merged my profile) it happened instantaneously. Has anyone experienced this bizarre behaviour before? What is happening here? More importantly, is there anything I can do to resolve it? (Apologies for the long and boring question). Cheers!

• Google Ads Blocking Other Site Elements From Loading

  I'm using Google DFP to serve Adsense ads. In Google Chrome (this doesn't seem to happen in other browsers), the page will get stuck loading pagead2.googlesyndication.com. It will just load for hours if I let it. In the meantime, only about half or slightly more of the dynamic images on my page will have completed loading. It appears this is blocking other elements on my site from loading. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

• Chrome "refusing to execute script"

  In the head of my HTML page, I have: <script src="https://raw.github.com/cloudhead/less.js/master/dist/less-1.3.3.js"></script> When I load the page in my browser (Google Chrome v 27.0.1453.116) and enable the developer tools, it says Refused to execute script from 'https://raw.github.com/cloudhead/less.js/master/dist/less-1.3.3.js' because its MIME type ('text/plain') is not executable, and strict MIME type checking is enabled. Indeed, the script won't run. Why does Chrome think this is a plaintext file? It clearly has a js file extension. Since I'm using HTML5, I omitted the type attribute, so I thought that might be causing the problem. So I added type="text/javascript" to the <script> tag, and got the same result. I even tried type="application/javascript" and still, same error. Then I tried changing it to type="text/plain" just out of curiosity. The browser did not return an error, but of course the JavaScript did not run. Finally I thought the periods in the filename might be throwing the browser off. So in my HTML, I changed all the periods to the URL escape character %2E: <script src="https://raw.github.com/cloudhead/less%2Ejs/master/dist/less-1%2E3%2E3.js"></script> This still did not work. The only thing that truly works (i.e. the browser does not give an error and the JS successfully runs) is if I download the file, upload it to a local directory, and then change the src value to the local file. I'd rather not do this since I'm trying to save space on my own website. How do I get the Chrome to recognize that the linked file is actually a javascript type?

  What good and free Social Networking Site solutions there are? I tried many options but most of them are either too complicated, too simple, or just do not work... I tried: Dolphin, DZOIC-Handshakes, elgg, Oxwall, SocialEngine, and some plugins for wp and other CMS. I don't need much, just: groups, chats, forums, profiles, PM, photos, pages, comments, search, statistics. Most of which included in pretty much every CMS out there, but not all.. So, what good solutions there are? Also I don't mind paying some money (I guess no more then $200), but I'd prefer if it was a free open source engine. Of course it should be PHP+MySQL based.

  Google has a program for webmasters called First Click Free. To implement First Click Free, you need to allow all users who find a document on your site via Google search to see the full text of that document, even if they have not registered or subscribed to see that content. The user's first click to your content area is free. However, once that user clicks a link on the original page, you can require them to sign in or register to read further. The user must be able to see the full content of a multi-page article. You can allow this by displaying all content on a single page to both Googlebot and users. Alternatively, you can use cookies to make sure that a user can visit each page of a multi-page article before being asked for registration or payment. Does Bing support anything like this?

After a couple of hours googling I cannot find how to access this functionality using the API, so that it can be automated as opposed to done manually via the paypal account. Is it possible? • Double vs Single Quotes in Chrome

  So when you want to embed google docs on a site you are given this chunk of code: <iframe width='500' height='300' frameborder='0' src='https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0AiV6Vq32hBZIdHZRN3EwWERLZHVUT25ST01LTGxubWc&output=html&widget=true'></iframe> This works fine on my site. If you edit the page, we run the new content through some filters to escape out stuff and make sure it is valid html. After the process, the link above gets converted to this: <iframe frameborder="0" height="300" src="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&amp;hl=en_US&amp;key=0AiV6Vq32hBZIdHZRN3EwWERLZHVUT25ST01LTGxubWc&amp;output=html&amp;widget=true" width="500"></iframe> This will work on every browser except for chrome. Chrome thinks I am running JS in the src. I narrowed it down to a combination of double quotes and escaped '&' symbols. If i revert one of those back to the original state, the iframe works. I work in ruby where ' and " have different behaviors. Is Chrome doing the same thing? Is there a way to turn that off?
