• Can you run Android 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread in a VM?

  I came across a how-to guide for running Android 1.7 in a virtual machine (VirtualBox), but 1.7 is old. I haven't been able to find a Android 2.2 or 2.3 image anywhere, does anyone have any ideas on how to virtualize newer Android OS's? Preferably a free virtualization solution like VirtualBox.   I've set up my zsh to update the XTerm title whenever I change directories. It's neat! Unfortunately I have one common problem, which is this: % cd foo; # title changes to "host1:~/foo" % ssh host2; # title changes to "host2:~" % pwd /home/user/foo # title is still "host2:~" I need to run some command anytime an ssh connection terminates, either chpwd, or cd ., or something similar. I don't think I can use an alias, because I'd need something like alias ssh=ssh $*; cd . but AFAICT you can't pick where the arguments go in an alias.

  I use WINDOWS 7 (x64) (Russian) I want to stream life audio from my default audio capture device (microphone) When I set up VLM settings using visual enviroment instruments - VLM settings it all works fine. But when I export created settings/configuration *.vlm file and try to inport it into VLM it gives me nothing I opened that .vlm there is some text... so now I try to run VLC with default settings like this: vlc -i dshow:// --dshow-adev= :sout=#transcode{acodec=mp3,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:std{access=http,mux=raw,dst=127.0.0.1:8084} but it dies giving me errors...=( So what shall I do to do live MP3 streaming from my default audio input device using VLC in non UI mode?

  We've been using KVM for almost a year strictly on CentOS 5.x as the KVM host, with Fedora and Ubuntu workstations accessing the KVM host and its guests using virt-manager, virt-viewer, and ssh. Is anyone aware of a way to access the KVM host using virt-manager from a Windows workstation? We have one co-worker who would like to access the KVM host, from a Win7 system. EDIT #1 I'm familiar with running a X11 server on windows such as Xming, and remote displaying virt-manager from the KVM host to a windows workstation, but what I'd really like here is to know of any solutions native to windows, i.e. is there a version of virt-manager that'll run on windows.

  Microsoft has a Hyper-V based VM I'm interested in running, however, I don't have access to a Windows Server 2008 machine to try it on, only a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine (Windows 7 does not support Hyper-V).   I have been using Apache Web Server for a while now and one thing I have noticed is that outside of my computer I can not access it. I use my Apache server for PHP development on my computer, but I would like to access stuff I have made outside of my computer. I am on a linksys router network. I usually run it of http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1/. I IPCONFIGED my computer and got 192.168.1.105 so I went there with my browser and got the page just fine. I tried doing this on another computer on the same network but it didn't work. How do I fix this? Sorry about the bad wording. I control a public facing Linux VPS with one IP address, outside my home network. Ideally, what I'd like to do is set something up so that I connect my home computer to my VPS, and after that port X on my VPS leads to port Y on my home computer, for the purposes of running a game server of a game that does not run under Linux. • PsExec - what if the .exe you run remotely requires user interaction?

  I use PsExec to deploy small .exe files to my workstations. Sometimes the .exe, for some reason, is incompatible with the system and opens a popup window with an error or some other message. Is there any way to know when the executable is 'stuck' there requiring user interaction? On my side I just have psexec running and waiting for the .exe to return (which will never return because the popup is stuck there). Since I run PsExec programmatically and I automate all the executions, when this Popup thing happens I find myself with hundreds of psexec processes stuck there and have no result back from them.. What's the best way to handle this sort of issue? Thanks.

  Does anybody know of any modules that provide the functionality to write python or PHP code to run as hooks in the Apache request processing pipeline? For instance, mod_perl lets me write PerlModules, which can contain handlers for the header parsing phase, content delivery, and even filters. I would like to do something similar in other scripting languages. I could write it in C, but the goal is to deploy a module that would work across a number of systems. If I deliver it as binary in C, then it would require 64/32-bit versions and some other issues. With perl, I can just require certain modules installed and mod_perl2.

  Hi! I try to run some Munin plugins written in Ruby. I would like to use RVM, so Munin needs to know where to find Ruby. I tried to change the line calling munin-cron in the cron file as follows: */5 * * * * munin bash -c 'source /usr/local/lib/rvm && rvm 1.9.2@munin && /usr/bin/munin-cron' This leads to error messages in munin-node.log, saying /usr/bin/env: ruby: No such file or directory When I change the plugins' shebangs to the actual path of the Ruby executable it works, but the RVM environment should be set so that '/usr/bin/env ruby' works. It does when I execute the plugins as root. Any ideas?

• My powershell script wont save a file when run using Task Scheduler, do I need to specify a specific argument?

  I have a script that downloads a temporary Excel file, copies parts of it to a new file, and saves it to a specific location on the network. The problem I'm having is that the new file is never created/saved. If I run the script locally (through cmd.exe, powershell, or powershell ise), it WILL save the file locally, or to the network. If I try running the script via a schedule or on-demand via Task Scheduler, the temporary file is created, but the final document is never created or saved. Is there a specific argument I need to pass, or anything I could be doing wrong? This is the command I'm currently using: powershell.exe -file C:\path\to\my\powershell\script\thescript.ps1 Since it calls environment variables, and other variables relative to the scripts positon, I also set "Start in" to C:\path\to\my\powershell\script\

• Run a server and local wireless network off my laptop with no internet.

  I'm trying to run a wireless network from my computer so that people in range can connect to the network and hit a website running off my machine. I don't want to enable file sharing or remote access or anything else of that nature. I just want them to be able to connect to the network, type in an IP or domain name in a browser, and be taken to a locally hosted website. No broader internet access needed. Any ideas / links to good tutorials on the subject? Is this something i can achieve with just a wifi card or will need a router?

  I've got this legacy software that only allows you to run one copy at a time, it detects that you have another session opened and it won't allow you to open a second instance. The problem is this is a cpu intensive program and it only use a single core. Is there any hacks or tweaks so I can trick it and open more than one instance? This would allow me to retire about 5 servers... I'm using Windows 2008 R2. I had to use cff explorer to enable the use more than 2GB RAM as the program crashes when it tries to use more than 2GB.

• Recommendations for a cloud/hosted server environment that can run different Windows VMs?

  I currently have a colocated Win 2008 server that I use for hosting different windows VMs for testing: Win 2008, Win XP, Vista, Win7, Win 2000. I'd like to ditch the server and use something like Amazone AWS but the key thing is I need to be able to launch VMs for these different windows versions. AWS doesn't allow this currently. Can anyone recommend somewhere that I could use? The main reasons I want to get away from my own server are: administration: backup, windows updates, etc space: disk limitations mean I can't have all the VMs I want. I'd like to be able to pay for space incrementally. I'll typically only run 1-3 at a time but want lots of snapshots of different machines.

  I'd like to configure Bash to run a particular command before running each command line I enter at the prompt. Specifically, I'd like to tell Vim (which is running in another terminal) to write all open buffers, because in my workflow if anything's unsaved when I leave Vim it's a mistake. Is there an option for this in Bash? If not, is there an option in Zsh? (There is a readline-based solution that somewhat fits this problem on another question, but it feels a bit hacky. It'll take it as a last resort.)

  I'm using Dreamweaver CS5.5 for an HTML prototype that is built with image-mapped screenshots. I am using JavaScript to dynamically include the appropriate main image, and the navigation is done with image maps. Is it possible to have the Dreamweaver "Design View" run JavaScript initially (which will set the main image) and also allow me to edit the image maps in place (so I can see them placed over the correct main image)? I found some references to the "Live View" feature, which runs JavaScript successfully, but I cannot see or edit image maps in "Live View".

  I have a shell account where I am not allowed to compile anything. There are however tools I need to run, some very simple ones like Midnight Commander, mcedit, most, jed I am trying to find a staically linked version that "just works" in my shell. Could anyone give me any advice on where I could find statically builds? I have not been able to find it with google. I could compile it myself, but I would have to find out which headers I need to compile for. I have never tried to do it before, so any help would be greatly apprechiated! • Is it possible to run my other partition inside of a VM?

  So I have dual boot machine with windows 7 and ubuntu 11. I would like to, at times, run a vm from one partition to another. For example sometimes I would like to do certain things in windows while still using ubuntu. At other times, perhaps the opposite would be more effective. Why? Well running a vm is fairly resource intensive, and depending on what I am doing primarily I would rather be in one operating system vs the other, or perhaps it is just convenient. An important consideration is that you should NOT need to "copy" or "duplicate" the partition in any way. The VM should just read the partition as if it were a standard image. Any ideas? I am using virtual box currently. I have also used virtual pc. I could probably get a copy of vmware workstation if needed.

  Some numpty ran chown -R username. in the /home folder on our webserver thinking he was in the desired folder. Needless to say the server is throwing a lot of wobbelys. We have over 200 websites and I don't want to chown them all individually so I'm trying to make a script that will change the owner of all the folders to the folder name, without the trailing /. This is all I have so far, once I can remove the / it will be fine, but I'd also like to check if the file contains a . in it, and if it doesn't then run the command, otherwise go to the next one. #!/bin/bash for f in * do test=$f; #manipluate the test variable chown -R $test $f done Any help would be great!   I lent my 3 USB modem to a friend because her Meteor USB modem had run out of credit. The 3 modem worked on her machine fine once the driver was installed. She bought Meteor credit a couple of days later, uninstalled the 3 driver and she only now seems to get on the Meteor server, when you try IE8 or Firefox you get the message “Page could not be found”. I uninstalled the Meteor driver and reinstalled…no change. The OS is Win_7 home edition. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards to all, oddbyte7.
