    I have been porting oracle selects, and I have been running across a lot of queries like so: SELECT e.last_name, d.department_name FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id(+) = d.department_id; ...and: SELECT last_name, d.department_id FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id = d.department_id(+); Are there any guides/tutorials for converting all of the variants of the (+) syntax? What is that syntax even called (so I can scour google)? When was this standard phased out? Any info is appreciated.

    I have an abstract base class that holds a Dictionary. I'd like inherited classes to be able to access the dictionary fields using a convenient syntax. Currently I have lots of code like this: string temp; int val; if (this.Fields.TryGetValue("Key", out temp)) { if (int.TryParse(temp, out val)) { // do something with val... } } Obviously I can wrap this in utility functions but I'd like to have a cool, convenient syntax for accessing the dictionary fields where I can simply say something like: int result = @Key; Is there any way to do something like this in C# (3.5)?

    I have a controller method: public ActionResult Details(int id) { Order order = OrderFacade.Instance.Load(id); return View(order); } that is used for 95% of possible invocations. For the other 5% i need to manipulate the value of id before passing to the facade. I'd like to create a separate method within this same controller that executes that manipulation and then calls this (Details) method. What would the signature of that method look like? I'm trying to select the row with key = 1 via this code: $query ="SELECT * FROM Bowlers WHERE key = '1'"; $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); For some reason, I'm getting this result: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'key = '1'' at line 1 The mysql statement works for using other keys, ie WHERE name = 'djs22'.     Hi, After writing deployment scripts from within the ISE, we need our CI server to be able to run them automatically, i.e. from the command line or via a batch file. I have notice some significant differences between the following calls: powershell.exe -File Script.ps1 powershell.exe -Command "& '.\Script.ps1'" powershell.exe .\Script.ps1 Some simple examples: When using -File, errors are handled in the exact same way as the ISE. The other two calls seem to ignore the $ErrorActionPreference variable, and do not catch Write-Error in try/catch blocks. When using pSake: The last 2 calls work perfectly Using the ISE or the -File parameter will fail with the following error: The variable '$script:context' cannot be retrieved because it has not been set Could someone help me understand the implications of each syntax, and why they are behaving differently?     I am using a lot of my own validation methods to compare the data from one association to the other. I've noticed that I'm constantly checking that my associations aren't nil before trying to call anything on them, but I am also validating their presence, and so I feel that my nil checks are redundant. Here's an example: class House < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :enterance, :class => Door has_one :exit, :class => Door validates_presence_of :enterance, :exit validate :not_a_fire_hazard def not_a_fire_hazard if enterance && exit && enterance.location != exit.location errors.add_to_base('If there is a fire you will most likely die') return false end end end I feel like I am repeating myself by checking the existence of enterance and exit within my own validation. Is there a more "The Rails Way" to do this?

    I want to create a query to list of all user defined stored procedures, excluding the ones that are system stored procedures, considering that: Checking the name like "sp_" doesn't work because there are user stored procedures that start with "sp_". Checking the property is_ms_shipped doesn't work because there are system stored procedures that have that flag = 0, for example: sp_alterdiagram (it is not MSShipped but appears under System Stored Procedures in SQL Server Management Studio). There must be a property, or a flag somewhere since you can see the "System Stored Procedures" in a separate folder in SQL 2005. Does anyone know?     I have a 2d numpy array called FilteredOutput that has 2 columns and 10001 rows, though the number of rows is a variable. I am trying to take the 2nd column of FilteredOutput and use it to populate a new 1d numpy array called timeSeriesArray using the following line of code: timeSeriesArray=p.array(FilteredOutput[:,0]) I got this syntax from the following link.   • Rails - Trying to query from a date range...everything from today

    I'm trying to figure the best way to query a date range from rails...I looked around on Google but am unsure about how to use this syntax. I have a Model that has various events and I like to add to my find condition a caveat that should only show events where the field :st_date is today or later, in effect only show me data that is current, nothing that happened before today. I ran into a problem because I have no end date to stop the query, I want to query everything from today to next month. I was thinking something like @events = Event.find(:all, :conditions => ["start_date between ? and ?", date.Today, date.next_month.beginning_of_month]) but I get the error undefined local variable or method `date'...... Do I need do anything particular to use the Date class? Or is there something wrong with my query syntax? I would really appreciate any help.

    Hello, I have two stored procedures and one trigger for a class I am taking that are done in sql server 2005. I want to recreate them in mysql with phpmyadmin. Everytime i put them in I get a 1064 error. Is this becuase phpmyadmin does not handle stored procedures or triggers well, or is it becuase the syntax from sql server 2005 to mysql is very different? If it is this, then where could i go online to learn the correct syntax to write my stored procedures and triggers in mysql/phpmyadmin... or should I just pick up a book at barnes and nobles? This is my senior project.

    I have a stock price which changes by nature all the time. And, there will be many users who wants to buy that stock. Let's say that the stock price is started at 10 and let's say, 30 people bid for 10.98, 20 people bid for 7.45, 100 people bid for 8.99. During the day, the stock price can touch any of these values, and if that happens, I want to execute all the orders for users who quoted that price. Technically, I am storing in a List. Whenever the price changes, I am checking against all the values in the list and executing those that satisfy the quoted price. Class Bids { string stockname; double quote; } Is there any better alternative way to callback the satisfied items in the list rather than checking all the items whenever there is a change?? If storing in a list is not right way of doing it, let me know the best way.

    I am trying to update an old cms where images were stored in /images/editor/, they are now stored in a bucket on amazon s3. I'm trying to update the database using mysql replace. I've done this in the past with replacing simple words, but now Mysql is reporting an error, I suspect because this is more than a simple word: UPDATE contents SET desc = replace(desc, '/images/editor/', 'http://s3.amazonaws.com/my_bucket/editor/') Do I need to escape the : or slashes?     Is there a way to get a file's mimetype in Flex SDK 3.5 without using its extension? I need to validate if an uploaded file is of a certain kind. This is for images, or documents (PDF, ODT, etc.) All the solutions I've found are by checking its extension. What if I rename a .odt file as a .jpg? Then I can upload it as an image... I should add, we are using an AIR desktop client and a Java EE server. File checking is solved on the Java side, but the idea is not to go to the server, validate the file so if it's not valid, there's no network traffic at all.
