  • Java applet class never found

    - by Andrew
I am having a problem with the java plugins of all three major browsers: chromium, firefox and Internet Explorer. The issue is that applets will always fail to load and yield errors no matter what website or what applet I am trying to use. I can not see any of the example applets on oracle's website; I can not launch the minecraft browser applet; nor can I launch any applet across the web using any browser. I always receive a "class not found:AppletClassHere.class" error. I know that my browser plugin must be working correctly because I can launch the Cisco Nac applet each time I connect to my network and I can launch my own simple applets offline. I am connecting to the internet through a vpn in case that is important. It also seems like a lot of other people I know are having this issue. Re-installing the plugin does not appear to fix the issue. I am asking this question to find out the cause of this problem, and any possible solutions. Thank you.

  • KVM and JBoss Java Application Server

    - by Jason
We have a large Xen deployment running on both RHEL and CentOS and have recently started looking at KVM since this is where it looks like the future of VM's are on Linux. We can load the server and get everything running without an issue. However when we load up a new one with JBoss (4.2 Community edition, Sun JDK 6) and load a large EAR the server goes a little crazy. The %sy will jump to 80-99% and just hang for large periods of time we see a similar jump in %us on the host machine. We though at first this might be I/O as it seems to happen at start of JBoss but then would "cool down" after everything got loaded. We did some tests by extracting some large tar.gz files and using jar -xvf on the ear but could not re-create. Then we starting thinking this might be some type of memory access issues. We loaded a c-program that would generate a lot of memory activity and sure enough we saw the spikes again. Not as high mind you but we did see it jump. We then wrote a small java program to do the same thing and sure enough we saw it jump again. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Is this just the way KVM works? As a side note we do NOT see this behavior on any other setup. Xen, VMWare and/or native iron. The system does seem a bit slower than our Xen / VMware ones.

  • Installing Java 6 on Ubuntu 10.04 fails on missing Java 6 JRE package

    - by David S
I'm trying to install Java 6 on Ubuntu 10.04 and it's been harder than it should be. In another question about installing Java on Ubuntu/Linux it said that I needed to do the following: sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner" However, that failed and I kept getting: sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found The solution to this, was to run: sudo apt-get install python-software-properties So, that seemed to work and the command above to "add-apt-repository" seems to complete with no errors. And I have run the following to confirm it got added. sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list But, now when I run the following: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre I get: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package sun-java6-jre is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package sun-java6-jre has no installation candidate Where do I go from here?

  • Java process eating CPU; Why?

    - by Camran
I have a Linux server which I have installed Java on. Sometimes, and only sometimes when a large nr of visitors visit my website, the site hangs. When I open the terminal and enter the "top" command to see whats going on, I can see that "Java" process is eating CPU! Like 400%. I have also tried ps aux command, and can see that the command is from usr/bin/java I have little experience in troubleshooting this kind of things, so I turn to you guys for help. I have a java container installed (Jetty) which I must have in order to use SOLR (search engine) which is integrated into my website. I can start and stop SOLR by: etc/init.d/solr stop But this didn't remove the java process from the "Top" command. Still java was eating 400% CPU. Is there other methods to restart java only? This has happened twice to me, and each time I have now restarted my entire servers and everithing is fine. If you need more input let me know! Thanks

  • Adding java source (.java files) to test jar in Maven

    - by user320550
    Hi all, I'm making use of my pom.xml and am was able to generate the jar for src/main/java (say app.jar) as well as for src/test/java (say app-test.jar). I was also able to include my java sources as part of the app.jar (i.e. have both my .class as well as my .java files in the jar). However for my app-test.jar, i'm not able to include my .java files in it. This is my pom.xml: <project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd"> <modelVersion>4.0.0</modelVersion> <groupId>com.mycompany.app</groupId> <artifactId>my-app</artifactId> <version>1.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <packaging>jar</packaging> <name>my-app</name> <url>http://maven.apache.org</url> <properties> <project.build.sourceEncoding>UTF-8</project.build.sourceEncoding> </properties> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>junit</groupId> <artifactId>junit</artifactId> <version>3.8.1</version> <scope>test</scope> </dependency> </dependencies> <build> <resources> <resource> <directory>src/main/java</directory> </resource> </resources> <plugins> <plugin> <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId> <artifactId>maven-jar-plugin</artifactId> <version>2.3.1</version> <executions> <execution> <phase>package</phase> <goals> <goal>test-jar</goal> </goals> <configuration> <includes> <include>src/test/java</include> </includes> </configuration> </execution> </executions> </plugin> </plugins> </build> </project> Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Update on post on Whaley's suggestion: Tried the maven-antrun-plugin, but rt now after running mvn package all i'm getting inside my tests.jar is the META-INF folder. .java and .class are not getting included: This is the part of the pom.xml <build> <resources> <resource> <directory>src/main/java</directory> </resource> </resources> <plugins> <plugin> <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId> <artifactId>maven-jar-plugin</artifactId> <executions> <execution> <phase>package</phase> <goals> <goal>test-jar</goal> </goals> <configuration> <includes> <include>src/test/java</include> </includes> </configuration> </execution> </executions> </plugin> <plugin> <artifactId>maven-antrun-plugin</artifactId> <executions> <execution> <id>${project.artifactId}-include-sources</id> <phase>process-resources</phase> <goals> <goal>run</goal> </goals> <configuration> <tasks> <copy todir="${project.build.testOutputDirectory}"> <fileset dir="${project.build.testSourceDirectory}"/> </copy> </tasks> </configuration> </execution> </executions> </plugin> </plugins> </build> Thanks.

  • GlassFish Back from Devoxx 2011 Mature Java EE 6 and EE 7 well on its way

    - by alexismp
I'm back from my 8th (!) Devoxx conference (I don't think I've missed one since 2004) and this conference keeps delivering on the promise of a Java developer paradise week. GlassFish was covered in many different ways and I was not involved in a good number of them which can only be a good sign! Several folks asked me when my Java EE 6 session with Antonio Goncalves was scheduled (we've been covering this for the past two years in University sessions, hands-on labs and regular sessions). It turns out we didn't team up this year (Antonio was crazy busy preparing for Devoxx France) and I had a regular GlassFish session. Instead, this year, Bert Ertman and Paul Bakker covered the 3-hour Java EE 6 University session ("Duke’s Duct Tape Adventures") on the very first day (using GlassFish) with great success it seems. The Java EE 6 lab was also a hit with a full room of folks covering a lot of technical ground in 2.5 hours (with GlassFish of course). GlassFish was also mentioned during Cameron Purdy's keynote (pretty natural even if that surprised a number of folks that had not been closely following GlassFish) but also in Stephan Janssen's Keynote as the engine powering Parleys.com. In fact Stephan was a speaker in the GlassFish session describing how they went from a single-instance Tomcat setup to a clustered GlassFish + MQ environment. Also in the session was Johan Vos (of Mollom fame, along other things). Both of these customer testimonials were made possible because GlassFish has been delivering full Java EE 6 implementations for almost two years now which is plenty of time to see serious production deployments on it. The Java EE Gathering (BOF) was very well attended and very lively with many spec leads participating and discussing progress and also pain points with folks in the room. Thanks to all those attending this session, a good number of RFE's, and priority points came out of this. While this wasn't a GlassFish session by any means, it's great to have the current RESTful Admin and upcoming Java EE 7 planned features be a satisfactory answer to some of the requests from the attendance. Last but certainly not least, the GlassFish team is busy with Java EE 7 and version 4 of the product. This was discussed and shown during the Java EE keynote and in greater details in Jerome Dochez' session. If any indication, the tweets on his demo (virtualization, provisioning, etc...) were very encouraging. Java EE 6 adoption is doing great and GlassFish, being a production-quality reference implementation, is one of the first to benefit from this. And with GlassFish 4.0, we're looking at increasing the product and community adoption by offering a pragmatic technical solution to Java EE PaaS deployments. Stay tuned ! (the impatient in you is encouraged to grab a 4.0 build and provide feedback).

  • What are the Top Developer Productivity Tools/Plugins for Java in Eclipse?

    - by Ryan Hayes
I personally use CodeRush in Visual Studio 2010 to do refactoring, write code faster with templates and generally navigate my code 10 times faster than stock VS. Recently, I've been working on another Android app and got to thinking...What are the top productivity plugins for Eclipse? Preferably free. I'm looking for plugins that help write in Java, not PHP or Rails or any of the other languages Eclipse supports.

  • What are the design decisions involved in choosing how to expose a Java web application?

    - by Gary Rowe
There are many ways to expose a Java web application to the consumer: application container (JBoss etc), servlet container (Tomcat etc), OSGi (Knopflerfish etc), self-executable WAR (Winstone etc) and so on. Are there any clear considerations where one approach should be favoured over another? As an example, could a collection of self-executable WARs running as raw Unix processes outperform the same applications deployed within Tomcat taking into account administration and scalability concerns?

  • How can I get a java extension in LibreOffice to use the GTK+ theme?

    - by Roland Taylor
I'm using LibreOffice with the LanguageTool extension, and it is kinda out of place (the options dialog at least) because it uses the open solaris default theme instead of my gtk+ theme. Is there a way to get it to use my gtk theme? Screenshot: Edited my question - it's not the default theme it uses, my apologies Additional details - it appears to be a webstart application or something, but I'm not a java expert so I don't know for sure :P

  • Ideal web application framework for newcomers and whether it is better to use Java or PHP based framework?

    - by Pawan
My primary question is whether a Java based web application framework is better or a PHP based one and why? Moreover, if I were just starting web development then what would be some ideal frameworks to start with, considering I may want to make a full CMS out of it later? I am not looking for a 'best', rather some good recommendations as I understand that CodeIgnitor has not got a long way to go from here : http://heybigname.com/2012/05/06/why-codeigniter-is-dead/

  • When will java change to 64bit addressing and how can we get there faster?

    - by Ido Tamir
Having to work with large files now, I would like to know when the java libraries will start switching to long for indexing in their methods. From Inputstreams read(byte[] b, int off, int len) - funnily there is long skip(long) also - to MappedByteBuffer to the basic indexing of arrays and lists, everything is adressed as int. Is there an official plan for enhancment of the libraries? Do initiatives exist to pressure oracle into enhancing the libraries, if there is no official plan yet?

  • How to make my Oracle update/insert action through Java faster?

    - by gunbuster363
I am facing a problem in my company that is - our program's speed is not fast enough. To be more specific, we are telecommunication company and this program handle call/internet serfing transaction made by every mobile phone users in our city. Because the amount of download content made by the iphone users is just too much, our program cannot handle them fast enough. The situation is, the amount of transaction made by users are double of the transaction processed by our program. Most of the running time of the program are dominated by DB transactions. I've search through the internet and browsed some sites ( for example: http://www.javaperformancetuning.com/tips/rawtips.shtml ) talking about Java performace in DB, but I cannot find a suggestion suitable for us. These advices are not applicable/already used, for instance: 1. Use prepared statements. Use parameterized SQL Already used prepared statement. Each time will use different parameter by clear parameters and set parameters. 2. Tune the SQL to minimize the data returned (e.g. not 'SELECT *'). Sure, already used. 3. Use connection pooling. We hold a single connection during the program's execution. And I doubt that pooling cannot solve the problem because our program act as 1 user, so there are no problem for concurrent access to DB. If anyone of you think pooling is good, please tell me why. Thanks. 4. Try to combine queries and batch updates. Cannot do it. Every query/insert/update is depend on the database's information. For example, we look up the DB for the client's information, if we cannot find his usage, we insert the usage into DB, otherwise we do update. 5. Close resources (Connections, Statements, ResultSets) when finished Sure. 6. Select the fastest JDBC driver. I don't know. I've search on the internet about the type of driver available and I am very confused. We use oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver and we use thin instead of oci, that's all I know. In addition, our program is a two-tier way ( java <- oracle ) 7. Turn off auto-commit already done that. Looking forwards to any help.

  • Is there any reason in a Java program for a special naming for a function arguments?

    - by gasan
I'd like to know, why would I want to have a special prefixes for a function arguments, like "p_name", "p_age", "p_sex"? On the one hand it helps to distinguish parameter from local variable or field further in the function body, but would it help? On the other hand, I didn't saw such naming recommendations anywhere including official Java language conventions. Please advise any reasons for using such naming policy

  • Should I continue teaching old Java input methods alongside the new ones?

    - by user1598390
I've been imparting a Java introduction course for several years. Some slides explain how to read from files and keyboard using BufferedReaders, InputStreams, FileInputStreamReaders etc. I'm adding slides explaining how to achieve this using more up to date approaches like Scanner. Should I leave out the old BufferedReaders, InputStreams and FileInputStreamReaders slides altogether, and teach only the new methods, or should I continue to teach these methods for the sake of completeness ? Will my students benefit from learning how to read from files and keyboard the old way ?

  • Is there a good reason I shouldn't use a java applet for a game?

    - by ryeguy
I want to make a multiplayer browser-based game. The nice thing about using an applet is that I can make the client and the server in the same language (java/closure/scala/etc). I know there's html5 and javascript, but server side javascript isn't as mature as the jvm platform and browser support is still kind of flaky. Applets don't seem to be widely used (except for Runescape), but is there a reason they're unsuitable or is it just because of the bad reputation they developed in their infancy?

Then, I saved the project, copied the project folder into a pendrive, tried to 'Open Project' in mate's laptop, using the same Java Netbeans IDE version. • Where should you store variables for a search program in java?

    - by Bored915
I'm wondering which is a more effective storage method in java. Would be better to save variables that will not change in a class or a resource? They're going to be variables that contain a set amount so that later a search program will go through the list of variables so as to recognize possible options. Also if there is a more efficient method of storing them please say so or if i doesn't matter where i store them.

Here is the process: jsoup version: 1.6.3 ; Ant version: 1.8.2 the source of jsoup is in the directory src/ I made a build file src/build.xml This file contains <project name="jsoup"> <target name="compile"> <mkdir dir="build/classes"/> <javac srcdir="src" destdir="build/classes" includeantruntime="false"/> </target> <target name="jar"> <mkdir dir="build/jar"/> <jar destfile="build/jar/jsoup.jar" basedir="build/classes"> <manifest> <attribute name="Main-Class" value="StateTrace"/> </manifest> </jar> </target> <target name="run"> <!--<java jar="build/jar/jsoup.jar" input="htmls/index.html" fork="true"/>--> <exec executable="java"> <arg value="-jar"/> <arg value="build/jar/jsoup.jar"/> <arg value="htmls/index.html"/> </exec> </target> </project> Note: 1. I issue the getPropertitiesFromConfigFile() function inside my class's default constructor, like this: public class Agent10479475 extends AbstractClientAgent { //default constructor public Agent10479475() { //set all properties to their default values in constructor FT_THRESHOLD = 400; FT_THRESHOLD_MARGIN = 50; printOut("Now loading properties from a config file...", ""); getPropertiesFromConfigFile(); printOut("Finished loading",""); } private void getPropertiesFromConfigFile() { Properties props = new Properties(); try { props.load(new FileInputStream("agent.properties")); FT_THRESHOLD = Long.parseLong(props.getProperty("FT_THRESHOLD")); FT_THRESHOLD_MARGIN = Long.parseLong(props.getProperty("FT_THRESHOLD_MARGIN ")); } catch(java.io.FileNotFoundException fnfex) { printOut("CANNOT FIND PROPERTIES FILE :", fnfex); } catch(java.io.IOException ioex) { printOut("IOEXCEPTION OCCURED :", ioex); } } } My class is loading its own .properties file under the same folder. why would the Java environment complains about such a denial of access? Must I config the emarket.client.EmarketSandbox class, which is not written by me and stored inside the emarket.jar, to access my agent.properties file? Any hints or suggestions is much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

  • How to handle screen orientation change when progress dialog and background thread active?

    - by Heikki Toivonen
    My program does some network activity in a background thread. Before starting, it pops up a progress dialog. The dialog is dismissed on the handler. This all works fine, except when screen orientation changes while the dialog is up (and the background thread is going). At this point the app either crashes, or deadlocks, or gets into a weird stage where the app does not work at all until all the threads have been killed. How can I handle the screen orientation change gracefully? The sample code below matches roughly what my real program does: public class MyAct extends Activity implements Runnable { public ProgressDialog mProgress; // UI has a button that when pressed calls send public void send() { mProgress = ProgressDialog.show(this, "Please wait", "Please wait", true, true); Thread thread = new Thread(this); thread.start(); } public void run() { Thread.sleep(10000); Message msg = new Message(); mHandler.sendMessage(msg); } private final Handler mHandler = new Handler() { @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg) { mProgress.dismiss(); } }; } Stack: E/WindowManager( 244): Activity MyAct has leaked window com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView@433b7150 that was originally added here E/WindowManager( 244): android.view.WindowLeaked: Activity MyAct has leaked window com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView@433b7150 that was originally added here E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.ViewRoot.<init>(ViewRoot.java:178) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.WindowManagerImpl.addView(WindowManagerImpl.java:147) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.WindowManagerImpl.addView(WindowManagerImpl.java:90) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.Window$LocalWindowManager.addView(Window.java:393) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.app.Dialog.show(Dialog.java:212) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.app.ProgressDialog.show(ProgressDialog.java:103) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.app.ProgressDialog.show(ProgressDialog.java:91) E/WindowManager( 244): at MyAct.send(MyAct.java:294) E/WindowManager( 244): at MyAct$4.onClick(MyAct.java:174) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.View.performClick(View.java:2129) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.View.onTouchEvent(View.java:3543) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.widget.TextView.onTouchEvent(TextView.java:4664) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.View.dispatchTouchEvent(View.java:3198) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:857) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:857) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:857) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:857) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:857) E/WindowManager( 244): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1593) E/WindowManager( 244): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1089) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.app.Activity.dispatchTouchEvent(Activity.java:1871) E/WindowManager( 244): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.dispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1577) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1140) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:88) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) E/WindowManager( 244): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3739) E/WindowManager( 244): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) E/WindowManager( 244): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:515) E/WindowManager( 244): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:739) E/WindowManager( 244): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:497) E/WindowManager( 244): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) and: W/dalvikvm( 244): threadid=3: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x4000fe68) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception E/AndroidRuntime( 244): java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: View not attached to window manager E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.view.WindowManagerImpl.findViewLocked(WindowManagerImpl.java:331) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.view.WindowManagerImpl.removeView(WindowManagerImpl.java:200) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.view.Window$LocalWindowManager.removeView(Window.java:401) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.app.Dialog.dismissDialog(Dialog.java:249) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.app.Dialog.access$000(Dialog.java:59) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.app.Dialog$1.run(Dialog.java:93) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.app.Dialog.dismiss(Dialog.java:233) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at MyAct$1.handleMessage(MyAct.java:321) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:88) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3739) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:515) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:739) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:497) E/AndroidRuntime( 244): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) I/Process ( 46): Sending signal. PID: 244 SIG: 9 I/ActivityManager( 46): Process MyAct (pid 244) has died. I have tried to dismiss the progress dialog in onSaveInstanceState, but that just prevents an immediate crash. The background thread is still going, and the UI is in partially drawn state. Need to kill the whole app before it starts working again.
