  • No search data in Google Analytics or Webmasters

    - by cjk
    I have a domain that has been registered in Google Webmasters and using Google Analytics for over 4 months. I get lots of analytics data, but am getting no information on Google searches in Webmasters, or Queries in Search Engine Optimisation in Analytics, even though I am getting keywords for traffic coming to my site from search engines. I have a test sub-domain with the same setup (except not HTTPS) that is getting some of this information through, even with much less data and visits. What could be wrong to stop me getting this information?

  • Ecryptfs: lost passphrase

    - by Sherlock3890
    When i mounted some dir by mount -t ecryptfs private data i entered wrong password. I wrote data in this dir and now i can't mount it. I have no valid password and passphrase (know only the same), but have SIG in /root/.ecryptfs/sig-cache.txt. How i can recover my directory or, at least, "brute it": type many-many passwords like entered when mounting this dir and compare generated sig with existing?

  • Seeking for faster $.(':data(key)')

    - by PoltoS
    I'm writing an extension to jQuery that adds data to DOM elements using el.data('lalala', my_data); and then uses that data to upload elements dynamically. Each time I get new data from the server I need to update all elements having el.data('lalala') != null; To get all needed elements I use an extension by James Padolsey: $(':data(lalala)').each(...); Everything was great until I came to the situation where I need to run that code 50 times - it is very slow! It takes about 8 seconds to execute on my page with 3640 DOM elements var x, t = (new Date).getTime(); for (n=0; n < 50; n++) { jQuery(':data(lalala)').each(function() { x++; }); }; console.log(((new Date).getTime()-t)/1000); Since I don't need RegExp as parameter of :data selector I've tried to replace this by var x, t = (new Date).getTime(); for (n=0; n < 50; n++) { jQuery('*').each(function() { if ($(this).data('lalala')) x++; }); }; console.log(((new Date).getTime()-t)/1000); This code is faster (5 sec), but I want get more. Q Are there any faster way to get all elements with this data key? In fact, I can keep an array with all elements I need, since I execute .data('key') in my module. Checking 100 elements having the desired .data('lalala') is better then checking 3640 :) So the solution would be like for (i in elements) { el = elements[i]; .... But sometimes elements are removed from the page (using jQuery .remove()). Both solutions described above [$(':data(lalala)') solution and if ($(this).data('lalala'))] will skip removed items (as I need), while the solution with array will still point to removed element (in fact, the element would not be really deleted - it will only be deleted from the DOM tree - because my array will still have a reference). I found that .remove() also removes data from the node, so my solution will change into var toRemove = []; for (vari in elements) { var el = elements[i]; if ($(el).data('lalala')) .... else toRemove.push(i); }; for (var ii in toRemove) elements.splice(toRemove[ii], 1); // remove element from array This solution is 100 times faster! Q Will the garbage collector release memory taken by DOM elements when deleted from that array? Remember, elements have been referenced by DOM tree, we made a new reference in our array, then removed with .remove() and then removed from the array. Is there a better way to do this?

  • iPhone UIWebView local resources using Javascript and handling onorientationChange

    - by Dougnukem
    I'm trying to server HTML Javascript and CSS content from an iPhone application's local resources, and I'm having trouble handling onOrientationChange events and including external Javascript. I seem to be able to link in CSS properly but not javascript. I'm trying to use the following example of handling onOrientationChange (How to build an iPhone website) but I'm serving the webpage from my app's NSBundle mainBundle. I tried attaching a javascript function to body.onorientationchange and to window.onorientationchange but neither work when served from UIWebView locally (or remotely), but it works if I'm using the iPhone Safari. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>How to build an iPhone website</title> <meta name="author" content="will" /> <meta name="copyright" content="copyright 2008 www.engageinteractive.co.uk" /> <meta name="description" content="Welcome to engege interactive on the iPhone!" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0;"> <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="images/template/engage.png"/> <style type="text/css"> @import url("iphone.css"); </style> <!-- <script type="text/javascript" src="orientation.js"></script> --> <script type="text/javascript"> function updateOrientation(){ try { var contentType = "show_normal"; switch(window.orientation){ case 0: contentType = "show_normal"; break; case -90: contentType = "show_right"; break; case 90: contentType = "show_left"; break; case 180: contentType = "show_flipped"; break; } document.getElementById("page_wrapper").setAttribute("class", contentType); //alert('ORIENTATION: ' + contentType); } catch(e) { alert('ERROR:' + e.message); } } window.onload = function initialLoad(){ try { loaded(); updateOrientation(); } catch(e) { alert('ERROR:' + e.message); } } function loaded() { document.getElementById("page_wrapper").style.visibility = "visible"; } </script> </head> <body onorientationchange="updateOrientation();"> <div id="page_wrapper"> <h1>Engage Interactive</h1> <div id="content_left"> <p>You are now holding your phone to the left</p> </div> <div id="content_right"> <p>You are now holding your phone to the right</p> </div> <div id="content_normal"> <p>You are now holding your phone upright</p> </div> <div id="content_flipped"> <p>This doesn't work yet, but there is a chance apple will enable it at some point, so I've put it in anyway.   • C++ custom exceptions: run time performance and passing exceptions from C++ to C

    - by skyeagle
    I am writing a custom C++ exception class (so I can pass exceptions occuring in C++ to another language via a C API). My initial plan of attack was to proceed as follows: //C++ myClass { public: myClass(); ~myClass(); void foo() // throws myException int foo(const int i, const bool b) // throws myException } * myClassPtr; // C API #ifdef __cplusplus extern "C" { #endif myClassPtr MyClass_New(); void MyClass_Destroy(myClassPtr p); void MyClass_Foo(myClassPtr p); int MyClass_FooBar(myClassPtr p, int i, bool b); #ifdef __cplusplus }; #endif I need a way to be able to pass exceptions thrown in the C++ code to the C side. The information I want to pass to the C side is the following: (a). What (b). Where (c). Simple Stack Trace (just the sequence of error messages in order they occured, no debugging info etc) I want to modify my C API, so that the API functions take a pointer to a struct ExceptionInfo, which will contain any exception info (if an exception occured) before consuming the results of the invocation. This raises two questions: Question 1 1. Implementation of each of the C++ methods exposed in the C API needs to be enclosed in a try/catch statement. The performance implications for this seem quite serious (according to this article): "It is a mistake (with high runtime cost) to use C++ exception handling for events that occur frequently, or for events that are handled near the point of detection." At the same time, I remember reading somewhere in my C++ days, that all though exception handling is expensive, it only becmes expensive when an exception actually occurs. So, which is correct?. what to do?. Is there an alternative way that I can trap errors safely and pass the resulting error info to the C API?. Or is this a minor consideration (the article after all, is quite old, and hardware have improved a bit since then). Question 2 I wuld like to modify the exception class given in that article, so that it contains a simple stack trace, and I need some help doing that. Again, in order to make the exception class 'lightweight', I think its a good idea not to include any STL classes, like string or vector (good idea/bad idea?). Which potentially leaves me with a fixed length C string (char*) which will be stack allocated. So I can maybe just keep appending messages (delimted by a unique separator [up to maximum length of buffer])... Its been a while since I did any serious C++ coding, and I will be grateful for the help. BTW, this is what I have come up with so far (I am intentionally, not deriving from std::exception because of the performance reasons mentioned in the article, and I am instead, throwing an integral exception (based on an exception enumeration): class fast_exception { public: fast_exception(int what, char const* file=0, int line=0) : what_(what), line_(line), file_(file) {/*empty*/} int what() const { return what_; } int line() const { return line_; } char const* file() const { return file_; } private: int what_; int line_; char const[MAX_BUFFER_SIZE] file_; }

  • How To Use Regular Expressions for Data Validation and Cleanup

    You need to provide data validation at the server level for complex strings like phone numbers, email addresses, etc. You may also need to do data cleanup / standardization before moving it from source to target. Although SQL Server provides a fair number of string functions, the code developed with these built-in functions can become complex and hard to maintain or reuse. • Servlet/JSP Flow Control: Enums, Exceptions, or Something Else?

    - by Christopher Parker
    I recently inherited an application developed with bare servlets and JSPs (i.e.: no frameworks). I've been tasked with cleaning up the error-handling workflow. Currently, each <form> in the workflow submits to a servlet, and based on the result of the form submission, the servlet does one of two things: If everything is OK, the servlet either forwards or redirects to the next page in the workflow. If there's a problem, such as an invalid username or password, the servlet forwards to a page specific to the problem condition. For example, there are pages such as AccountDisabled.jsp, AccountExpired.jsp, AuthenticationFailed.jsp, SecurityQuestionIncorrect.jsp, etc. I need to redesign this system to centralize how problem conditions are handled. So far, I've considered two possible solutions: Exceptions Create an exception class specific to my needs, such as AuthException. Inherit from this class to be more specific when necessary (e.g.: InvalidUsernameException, InvalidPasswordException, AccountDisabledException, etc.). Whenever there's a problem condition, throw an exception specific to the condition. Catch all exceptions via web.xml and route them to the appropriate page(s) with the <error-page> tag. enums Adopt an error code approach, with an enum keeping track of the error code and description. The descriptions can be read from a resource bundle in the finished product. I'm leaning more toward the enum approach, as an authentication failure isn't really an "exceptional condition" and I don't see any benefit in adding clutter to the server logs. Plus, I'd just be replacing one maintenance headache with another. Instead of separate JSPs to maintain, I'd have separate Exception classes. I'm planning on implementing "error" handling in a servlet that I'm writing specifically for this purpose. I'm also going to eliminate all of the separate error pages, instead setting an error request attribute with the error message to display to the user and forwarding back to the referrer. Each target servlet (Logon, ChangePassword, AnswerProfileQuestions, etc.) would add an error code to the request and redirect to my new servlet in the event of a problem. My new servlet would look something like this: public enum Error { INVALID_PASSWORD(5000, "You have entered an invalid password."), ACCOUNT_DISABLED(5002, "Your account has been disabled."), SESSION_EXPIRED(5003, "Your session has expired. Please log in again."), INVALID_SECURITY_QUESTION(5004, "You have answered a security question incorrectly."); private final int code; private final String description; Error(int code, String description) { this.code = code; this.description = description; } public int getCode() { return code; } public String getDescription() { return description; } }; protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { String sendTo = "UnknownError.jsp"; String message = "An unknown error has occurred."; int errorCode = Integer.parseInt((String)request.getAttribute("errorCode"), 10); Error errors[] = Error.values(); Error error = null; for (int i = 0; error == null && i < errors.length; i++) { if (errors[i].getCode() == errorCode) { error = errors[i]; } } if (error != null) { sendTo = request.getHeader("referer"); message = error.getDescription(); } request.setAttribute("error", message); request.getRequestDispatcher(sendTo).forward(request, response); } protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { doGet(request, response); } Being fairly inexperienced with Java EE (this is my first real exposure to JSPs and servlets), I'm sure there's something I'm missing, or my approach is suboptimal. Am I on the right track, or do I need to rethink my strategy?
