  • In .NET, How do I separate xml from compiled resource file?

    - by Brandon
We have a customer that would like to modify application user messages that we store in .resx files. I'm thinking this can't be done since the xml file behind the .resx is embedded in a compiled dll. Am I correct? Or, is there a way keep the xml outside of the compiled dll? I realize this can easily be done by other means but I like the ease of the resx file--the classes/properties are created for you.

  • Cocoa: what is the var name of an instance created by a NIB file?

    - by Nibbles
When a Cocoa NIB file instantiates an instance of a custom controller object, what is the name of the variable that that custom controller instance is assigned to? In case that isn't clear, if you manually created an instance of that class you would do: MyControllerClass *myVar = [[MyControllerClass alloc] init]; What equivalent of "myVar" has the NIB used when doing this behind the scenes?

  • how to bind ComboBox with DataTable

    - by niko
Hi, I have the DataTable with following columns: id, Name, Description, ParentId and would like to create a WPF control (.NET 4.0 framework) which implements a combobox which displays the names which are bound to values of id. So when the user selects a name displayed in the combobox the behind logic has to retrieve its id value. I would be very thankful if anyone could show the way of doing the described above.

  • How does Page.IsValid work?

    - by Lijo
I have following code with a RequiredFieldValidator. The EnableClientScript property is set as "false" in the validation control. Also I have disabled script in browser. I am NOT using Page.IsValid in code behind. Still, when I submit without any value in textbox I will get error message. From comments of @Dai, I came to know that this can be an issue, if there is any code in Page_Load that is executed in a postback. There will be no validation errors thrown. (However, for button click handler, there is no need to check Page.IsValid) if (Page.IsPostBack) { string value = txtEmpName.Text; txtEmpName.Text = value + "Appended"; } QUESTION Why the server side validation does not happen before Page_Load? Why it works fine when I use Page.IsValid? UPDATE It seems like, we need to add If(Page.IsValid) in button click also if we are using a Custom Validator with server side validation. Refer CustomValidator not working well. Note: Client side validation question is present here: Whether to use Page_IsValid or Page_ClientValidate() (for Client Side Events) MARKUP <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> alert('haiii'); </script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:ValidationSummary runat="server" ID="vsumAll" DisplayMode="BulletList" CssClass="validationsummary" ValidationGroup="ButtonClick" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtEmpName" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="valEmpName" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtEmpName" EnableClientScript="false" ErrorMessage="RequiredFieldValidator" Text="*" Display="Dynamic" ValidationGroup="ButtonClick"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" onclick="Button1_Click" Text="Button" ValidationGroup="ButtonClick" /> </div> </form> </body> </html> CODE BEHIND protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string value = txtEmpName.Text; SubmitEmployee(value); } References: Should I always call Page.IsValid? • admobad problem on iphone

    - by dubbeat
Hey, I want to know if there's a few folks out there with experience in using admob for iphone apps. I've just started using it and have a problem. When I close an in app ad the actual ad itself has moved up 40 pixels and is mostly hidden behind the navigation bar. In addition all of my own content is shifted up 40 pixels. The addmob documentation is very limited so not much help there sadly.

  • xargs command works on ubuntu, but not mac

    - by Corey Hart
I have the following line of code that I use to update my personal date variable in my projects to todays current date. This line works in Ubuntu's terminal, but the Mac terminal seems to be far behind. Unfortunately, I copied this snippet from some site, so I'm not sure how it exactly works. Suggestions? grep -ilr --exclude=revar.sh --exclude=README.md "[DATE]" * | grep -v .git | xargs -i@ sed -i "s/\[DATE\]/${today}/g" @

  • Arrow in nav menus in CSS/JS (e.g. playframework.org)

    - by manmal
The navigation menu at the top of the www.playframework.org site features a small arrow pointing upward for the currently selected section (Home, Learn, Download,...). I tried to get behind the implementation they used, but I can't wrap my head around it - the resource does not show up in Chrome's Resources window, and an inspection of the elements did not show any signs of a background image, nor a JS interceptor (although I might have missed that). What in hellhound's name is going on there? :)

  • Javascript: 'this' changes when assigning a property?

    - by Pickels
I know 'this' can be a problem when you don't understand Javascript well but this one got me a little puzzled. var ControlTypes = { TextBox: function () { console.log(this); this.Name = "TextBox"; console.log(this); } } ControlTypes.TextBox(); Firebug gives the following result: Object {} Object { Name="TextBox"} The first object is ControlTypes and the second one is Textbox. Could anybody explain the behavior behind this?

  • jQuery replacing an image inside a .net datalist

    - by user359409
(submit said I was trying to post an image so I've changed image everywhere to ix I am trying to get jQuery to replace an ix inside a datalist. The original ix is the thumbnail ix of a product on a category page. The small ix I am clicking on are swatch ix for the different colors of a product. I can get it to work using a div tag around the ix tag inside the ItemTemplate. I don't need to use a div tag if I can get the imagesx to swap- I was just using it because that is sample code I found and it works for the first product in the category. <asp:HyperLink ID="ProductNav" runat="server" NavigateUrl='<%#Eval("NavigateUrl") %>'> <div id="ladiv" runat="server"> <asp:Ixx runat="server" ID="ProdThumb" /> </div> </asp:HyperLink> <asp:PlaceHolder ID="phSwatches" runat="server"></asp:PlaceHolder> The ProdThumb ix is added from the code behind and the swatches are added from the code behind swatches.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<table><tr>")); foreach(OptionChoice optionChoice in option.Choices) { string swatchThumbnail = string.Format("<ix ID=\"{0}\" src=\"{1}\" border=\"0\" class=\"{2}\" />","swatch" + optionChoice.OptionChoiceId.ToString(), ResolveUrl(optionChoice.ThumbnailUrl),"imgthumb"); swatches.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<td>")); swatches.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(swatchThumbnail)); swatches.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("</td>")); } swatches.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("</tr></table>")); prodThumb.IxUrl = product.ThumbnailUrl; prodThumb.AlternateText = product.ThumbnailAltText; prodThumb.CssClass = "Thumbnail"; The jQuery is: $(function() { $("ix.imgthumb").click(function(e) { var t = $(this); var newImg = ''; $('#ladiv') .html($(newImg) ); }); }); </script> Both images are named similar, except the swatch contains "sws" and the larger one is the some only with "swl". I have spent several days searching but am not able to get it to work. If I try something like $("#<%=ladiv.ClientID %") the code can't find it. I appreciate any help.

  • Android & Web: What is the equivalent style for the web?

    - by Legend
I am quite impressed by the workflow I follow when developing Android applications: Define a layout in an xml file and then write all the code in a code-behind style. Is there an equivalent style for the web? I mean, with a predefined list of widgets that can be defined using a markup language and then control them using code? I have come across Google's Web Toolkit that does something like this but I'd like to hear what other's think as well.

  • C++: Is windows.h generally an efficient code library?

    - by Alerty
I heard some people complaining about including the windows header file in a C++ application. They mentioned that it is inefficient. Is this just some urban legend or are there really some real hard facts behind it? In other words, if you believe it is efficient or inefficient please explain how this can be with facts. I am no C++ Windows programmer guru. It would really be appreciated to have detailed explanations.

  • Guidance on creating a drawing application in Silverlight

    - by Élodie Petit
I need help on creating an application like Visio in Silverlight, of course a much more simpler one. Just dragging and dropping shapes and connecting them is enough at this time. Can someone direct me to some resources about this? Algorithms / implementations don't need to be in C# / Silverlight. It may be enough to start with the logic behind such an application. Thanks.

  • Control is set to false, jQuery selector fails

    - by Damien Joe
Hi I have some controls on an asp.net modal which I show manually via code behind. Now I am trying to attach a selector on one of the controls inside pageLoad(), problem being is that the modal container is initially set to visible=false. I tried checking for length but it still throws exception if ($('#<%= myControl.ClientId %>').length > 0) { $('#<%= myControl.ClientID %>').click(function() { // Do work }); } Compiler Error Message: CS0103: The name 'myControl' does not exist in the current context

  • Borland problem: typing

    - by b3y4z1d
When I type in Borland C++,it types over the line, not on a new one. That means that every time I press enter,it doesn't give me a fresh, new, empty line in which to type but goes to the one underneath. And there when I try to type I expect the symbols, numbers and letters to move as I add text behind them in the line, but the new symbols keep overwriting the old ones.Sort of deleting them and replacing them with the new characters as I type. Could it be some kinda option I've activated unvoluntarily?

  • why no += operator for vectors in stl

    - by Akshay Bhat
I am curious? What high fundu logic goes behind not implementing: result+=vector1; where both result and vector1 are stl vectors. Note: i know how to implement that bit, but i need to know what logic, the sages who designed STL were using when they chose not to implement this feature?

  • Why is "int + string" possible in statically-typed C# but not in dynamically-typed Python?

    - by Salvador Dali
While studying C# I found it really strange, that dynamically typed Python will rise an error in the following code: i = 5 print i + " " whereas statically typed C# will normally proceed the similar code: int i = 5; Console.Write(i + " "); I would expect other way around (in python I would be able to do this without any casting, but C# would require me to cast int to string or string to int). Just to highlight, I am not asking what language is better, I am curious what was the reason behind implementing the language this way.

  • Using PreferenceScreen/PreferenceActivity to configure home screen widgets

    - by hpe
Hi, I'm creating an appwidget, where the user should be able to configure it before it is added to the home screen. To me, PreferenceScreen/PreferenceActivity seems perfect for the task, but the intention behind these classes seem to be configuring an actual application. I've searched, but cannot find any documentation or tutorials which covers this question. Is it possible to configure a widget using these classes, or is the only alternative to configure it through an ordinary view? Thanks for any answers!
