• Java writes bad wave files

  I'm writing out wave files in Java using AudioInputStream output = new AudioInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(rawPCMSamples), new AudioFormat(22000,16,1,true,false), rawPCMSamples.length) AudioSystem.write(output, AudioFileFormat.Type.WAVE, new FileOutputStream('somefile.wav')) And I get what appears to be corrupt wave files on OSX. They won't play from Finder however using the same code behind a servlet writing directly to the response stream and setting the Content-Type to audio/wave seems to play fine in quicktime. What gives?

  Right now I have four customized QDockWidgets on the left side of my application. When you start the application, each one is visible, but very small because of the visibility of each one. I would like for three of the QDockWidgets to nest behind one primary one to give that one priority and the entire left side of the screen. • Why isn't this infinite recursion? How does default variable initialization work in VB.NET?

  I just made an interesting mistake in my code: Dim endColumn As Integer = startColumn + endColumn - 1 The code was actually supposed to be: Dim endColumn As Integer = startColumn + numColumns - 1 The interesting thing is, I would think that this code should be recursive and loop indefinitely, as the initialization of endColumn sort of calls itself. However, it seems that the code just treats the uninitialized variable as a 0 and so I get startColumn + 0 - 1. What is happening here behind the scenes? When does a variable get assigned a default value?

As in if a certain amount of requests are made per a certain amount of time then block the IP address or something. I thought there maybe a htaccess solution if not, I will write a PHP one.   For some reason this function confused me: def protocol(port): return port == "443" and "https://" or "http://" Can somebody explain the order of what's happening behind the scenes to make this work the way it does. I understood it as this until I tried it: Either A) def protocol(port): if port == "443": if bool("https://"): return True elif bool("http://"): return True return False Or B) def protocol(port): if port == "443": return True + "https://" else: return True + "http://" Is this some sort of special case in Python, or am I completely misunderstanding how statements work?

  Akamai is way too expensive. Photobucket is not reliable. Is there a great content delivery network that I can use just to host my images? We deploy images programmatically via FTP, so there is some programming behind the scenes. Having some sort of reporting about the reliability of the service, whether it's raw logs files or a web-based admin screen that shows http errors, would also be important. Has anyone worked with edgecast?

• A regex to match a substring that isn't followed by a certain other substring.

  I need a regex that will match blahfooblah but not blahfoobarblah I want it to match only foo and everything around foo, as long as it isn't followed by bar. I tried using this: foo.*(?<!bar) which is fairly close, but it matches blahfoobarblah. The negative look behind needs to match baranything and not just bar. The specific language I'm using is Clojure which uses Java regexes under the hood.

  We have a Prism/WPF application and are using an expander to animate a menu. When the expander expands, the content is rendered behind the main region's content. The menu is in a different region than the content it is supposed to overlay (since the menu governs what items go into that region) which is why this is occurring.
