  • Get Asynchronous HttpResponse through Silverlight (F#)

    - by jack2010
    I am a newbie with F# and SL and playing with getting asynchronous HttpResponse through Silverlight. The following is the F# code pieces, which is tested on VS2010 and Window7 and works well, but the improvement is necessary. Any advices and discussion, especially the callback part, are welcome and great thanks. module JSONExample open System open System.IO open System.Net open System.Text open System.Web open System.Security.Authentication open System.Runtime.Serialization [<DataContract>] type Result<'TResult> = { [<field: DataMember(Name="code") >] Code:string [<field: DataMember(Name="result") >] Result:'TResult array [<field: DataMember(Name="message") >] Message:string } // The elements in the list [<DataContract>] type ChemicalElement = { [<field: DataMember(Name="name") >] Name:string [<field: DataMember(Name="boiling_point") >] BoilingPoint:string [<field: DataMember(Name="atomic_mass") >] AtomicMass:string } //http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dsyme/archive/2007/10/11/introducing-f-asynchronous-workflows.aspx //http://lorgonblog.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!701679AD17B6D310!194.entry type System.Net.HttpWebRequest with member x.GetResponseAsync() = Async.FromBeginEnd(x.BeginGetResponse, x.EndGetResponse) type RequestState () = let mutable request : WebRequest = null let mutable response : WebResponse = null let mutable responseStream : Stream = null member this.Request with get() = request and set v = request <- v member this.Response with get() = response and set v = response <- v member this.ResponseStream with get() = responseStream and set v = responseStream <- v let allDone = new System.Threading.ManualResetEvent(false) let getHttpWebRequest (query:string) = let query = query.Replace("'","\"") let queryUrl = sprintf "http://api.freebase.com/api/service/mqlread?query=%s" "{\"query\":"+query+"}" let request : HttpWebRequest = downcast WebRequest.Create(queryUrl) request.Method <- "GET" request.ContentType <- "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" request let GetAsynResp (request : HttpWebRequest) (callback: AsyncCallback) = let myRequestState = new RequestState() myRequestState.Request <- request let asyncResult = request.BeginGetResponse(callback, myRequestState) () // easy way to get it to run syncrnously w/ the asynch methods let GetSynResp (request : HttpWebRequest) : HttpWebResponse = let response = request.GetResponseAsync() |> Async.RunSynchronously downcast response let RespCallback (finish: Stream -> _) (asynchronousResult : IAsyncResult) = try let myRequestState : RequestState = downcast asynchronousResult.AsyncState let myWebRequest1 : WebRequest = myRequestState.Request myRequestState.Response <- myWebRequest1.EndGetResponse(asynchronousResult) let responseStream = myRequestState.Response.GetResponseStream() myRequestState.ResponseStream <- responseStream finish responseStream myRequestState.Response.Close() () with | :?   • Odd tcp deadlock under windows

    - by John Robertson
    We are moving large amounts of data on a LAN and it has to happen very rapidly and reliably. Currently we use windows TCP as implemented in C++. Using large (synchronous) sends moves the data much faster than a bunch of smaller (synchronous) sends but will frequently deadlock for large gaps of time (.15 seconds) causing the overall transfer rate to plummet. This deadlock happens in very particular circumstances which makes me believe it should be preventable altogether. More importantly if we don't really know the cause we don't really know it won't happen some time with smaller sends anyway. Can anyone explain this deadlock? Deadlock description (OK, zombie-locked, it isn't dead, but for .15 or so seconds it stops, then starts again) The receiving side sends an ACK. The sending side sends a packet containing the end of a message (push flag is set) The call to socket.recv takes about .15 seconds(!) to return About the time the call returns an ACK is sent by the receiving side The the next packet from the sender is finally sent (why is it waiting? the tcp window is plenty big) The odd thing about (3) is that typically that call doesn't take much time at all and receives exactly the same amount of data. On a 2Ghz machine that's 300 million instructions worth of time. I am assuming the call doesn't (heaven forbid) wait for the received data to be acked before it returns, so the ack must be waiting for the call to return, or both must be delayed by something else. The problem NEVER happens when there is a second packet of data (part of the same message) arriving between 1 and 2. That part very clearly makes it sound like it has to do with the fact that windows TCP will not send back a no-data ACK until either a second packet arrives or a 200ms timer expires. However the delay is less than 200 ms (its more like 150 ms). The third unseemly character (and to my mind the real culprit) is (5). Send is definitely being called well before that .15 seconds is up, but the data NEVER hits the wire before that ack returns. That is the most bizarre part of this deadlock to me. Its not a tcp blockage because the TCP window is plenty big since we set SO_RCVBUF to something like 500*1460 (which is still under a meg). The data is coming in very fast (basically there is a loop spinning out data via send) so the buffer should fill almost immediately. According to msdn the buffer being full and at least one pending send should cause the data to be sent (though in another place it mentions that there various "heuristics" used in deciding when a send hits the wire). Anway, why the sender doesn't actually send more data during that .15 second pause is the most bizarre part to me. The information above was captured on the receiving side via wireshark (except of course the socket.recv return times which were logged in a text file). We tried changing the send buffer to zero and turning off Nagle on the sender (yes, I know Nagle is about not sending small packets - but we tried turning Nagle off in case that was part of the unstated "heuristics" affecting whether the message would be posted to the wire. Technically microsoft's Nagle is that a small packet isn't sent if the buffer is full and there is an outstanding ACK, so it seemed like a possibility).

  • PHP framework question

    - by iconiK
    I'm currently working on a browser-based MMO and have chosen the LAMP stack because of the extremely low cost to start with in production (versus Windows + IIS + ASP.NET/C# + SQL Server, even though I have MSDN Universal). However I will need a PHP framework for this as it's no easy task. I am not restricted by anything other than the ability to run on Linux, as I will use a dedicated cloud hosting solution (and a VMWare image for development) and can configure it as needed. In no specific order: It has to be easily scalable; this is crucial. If the game becomes a steady success it will eventually outgrow the server beyond what the host provides and would have to be moved to several load-balanced servers. It is crucial that this can be done with minimum effort. I do know this might require following strict conventions, so if you know of any for your suggested framework please explain what would be needed. It has to provide modules for all the core tasks: authentication, ACL, database access, MVC, and so on. One or two missing modules are fine, as long as they can easily be written and integrated. It should support internationalization. I think there is no excuse for any web framework not to provide means of translating the application and switching between languages without a lot of effort from the programmer. Must have very good community support and preferably commercial support as well. Yes, I do know QCodo/QCubed is so nice, but it is not mature enough for this task. Smooth AJAX support is required. Whether the framework comes with AJAX-capable widgets or has an easy way of adding AJAX is not relevant, as long as AJAX is easily doable. I plan to use jQuery + Dojo or one of them alone - not exactly sure. Auto-magically doing stuff when it improves readability and relieves a lot of effort would be especially nice if it is generally reliable and does not interfere with other requirements. This seems to be the case of CakePHP. I have read a lot of comparisons and I know it's a really hot debate. The general answer is "try and see for yourself what suits you". However, I can't say it is easy for this task and I'm calling for your experience with building applications with similar requirements. So far I'm tied up between Zend and CakePHP by the general criteria, however, all well-known frameworks offer the same functionality in some way or another with different approaches each with it's own advantages and disadvantages. Edits: I am kinda new to MVC, however, I am willing to learn it and I don't care if a framework is easier for those new to MVC. I have lots of time to learn MVC and any other architectures (or whatever they're called) you recommend. I will use Zend as a utility "framework", even though it's just a collection of libraries (some good ones though, as I have been told). Current PHP contenders are: CakePHP, Kohana, Zend alone.

  • What is my HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject Method Virtual Path?

    - by ARUNRAJ
    I have read http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms149953.aspx and need to verify what is my GetLocalResourceObject virtual path. My local resource files are located on my pc at: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\GlobalX\Input\App_LocalResources Within this folder are my resource files for all the languages that site handles (InputContactDetails.aspx.ro.resx, InputContactDetails.aspx.hi.resx, etc.), as well as the default resource file (InputContactDetails.aspx.resx). I am receiving an error when I attempt to implement the virtual path string. Below is my line of offending code: return '<%= HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject("~/GlobalX/Input/App_LocalResources/InputContactDetails.aspx.resx", "ContactDetails.Text", new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("ro")) %>'; I have tried ~/GlobalX/Input/App_LocalResources as the virtual path, and several other permutations, but I get the same error. If someone could show what I am doing wrong, I would appreciate it greatly. Here is the error message I am getting: The resource class for this page was not found. Please check if the resource file exists and try again. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. • IErrorHandler doesn't seem to be handling my errors in WCF .. any ideas?

    - by John Nicholas
    Have been readign around on IErrorHandler and want to go the config route. so, I have read the following in an attempt to implement it. MSDN Keyvan Nayyeri blog about the type defintion Rory Primrose Blog I have got it to compile and from the various errors i have fixed it seems like WCF is actually loading the error handler. My problem is that the exception that i am throwing to handle in the error handler doesn;t get the exception passed to it. My service implementation simply calls a method on another class that throws ArgumentOutOfRangeException - however this exception never gets handled by the handler. My web.config <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basic"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <extensions> <behaviorExtensions> <add name="customHttpBehavior" type="ErrorHandlerTest.ErrorHandlerElement, ErrorHandlerTest, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null" /> </behaviorExtensions> </extensions> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="exceptionHandlerBehaviour"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <!-- To receive exception details in faults for debugging purposes, set the value below to true. • Windows 7 Machine Makes Router Drop -All- Wireless Connections [closed]

    - by Hammer Bro.
    Note: I accidentally originally posted this question over at SuperUser, and I still think the issue is caused by some low-level networking practice of Windows 7, but I think the expertise here would be more apt to figuring it out. Apologies for the cross-post. Some background: My home network consists of my Desktop, a two-month old Windows 7 (x64) machine which is online most frequently (N-spec), as well as three other Windows XP laptops (all G) that only connect every now and then (one for work, one for Netflix, and the other for infrequent regular laptop uses). I used to have a Belkin F5D8236-4 wireless router, and everything worked great. A week ago, however, I found out that the Belkin absolutely in no way would establish a VPN connection, something that has become important for work. So I bought a Netgear WNR3500v2/U/L. The wireless was acting a little sketchy at first for just the Windows 7 machine, but I thought it had something to do with 802.11N and I was in a hurry so I just fished up an ethernet cable and disabled the computer's wireless. It has now become apparent, though, that whenever the Windows 7 machine is connected to the router, all wireless connections become unstable. I was using my work laptop for a solid six hours today with no trouble, having multiple SSH connections open over VPN and streaming internet radio in the background. Then, within two minutes of turning on this Windows 7 box, I had lost all connectivity over the wireless. And I was two feet away from the router. The same sort of thing happens on all of the other laptops -- Netflix can be playing stuff all weekend, but if I come up here and do things on this (W7) computer, the streaming will be dead within ten minutes. So here are my basic observations: If the Windows 7 machine is off, then all connections will have a Signal Strength of Very Good or Excellent and a Speed of 48-54 Mbps for an indefinite amount of time. Shortly after the Windows 7 machine is turned on, all wireless connections will experience a consistent decline in Speed down to 1.0 Mbps, eventually losing their connection entirely. These machines will continue to maintain 70% signal strength, as observed by themselves and router. Once dropped, a wireless connection will have difficulty reconnecting. And, if a connection manages to become established, it will quickly drop off again. The Windows 7 machine itself will continue to function just fine if it's using a wired connection, although it will experience these same issues over the wireless. All of the drivers and firmwares are up to date, and this happened both with the stock Netgear firmware as well as the (current) DD-WRT. What I've tried: Making sure each computer is being assigned a distinct IP. (They are.) Disabling UPnP and Stateful Packet Inspection on the router. Disabling Network Sharing, SSDP Discovery, TCP/IP NetBios Helper and Computer Browser services on the Windows 7 machine. Disabling QoS Packet Scheduler, IPv6, and Link Layer Topology Discovery options on my ethernet controller (leaving only Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing, and IPv4 enabled). What I think: It seems awfully similar to the problems discussed in detail at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/wsk/thread/1064e397-9d9b-4ae2-bc8e-c8798e591915 (which was both the most relevant and concrete information I could dig up on the internet). I still think that something the Windows 7 IP stack (or just Operating System itself) is doing is giving the router fits. However, I could be wrong, because I have two key differences. One is that most instances of this problem are reported as the entire router dying or restarting, and mine still works just fine over the wired connection. The other is that it's a new router, tested with both the factory firmware and the (I assume) well-maintained DD-WRT project. Even if Windows 7 is still secretly sending IPv6 packets or the TCP Window Scaling implementation that I hear Vista caused some trouble with (even though I've tried my best to disable anything fancy), this router should support those functions. I don't want to get a new or a replacement router unless someone can convince me that this is a defective unit. But the problem seems too specific and predictable by my instincts to be a hardware hiccup. And I don't want to deal with the inevitable problems that always seem to take half a day to resolve when getting a new router, since I'm frantically working (including tomorrow) to complete a project by next week's deadline. Plus, I think in the worst case scenario, I could keep this router connected directly to the modem, disable its wireless entirely, and connect the old Belkin to it directly. That should allow me to still use VPN (although I'll have to plug my work laptop directly into that router), and then maintain wireless connections for all of the other computers. But that feels so wrong to me. Anyone have any ideas what the cause and possible solution could be? Clarifications: The Windows 7 machine is directly connected via an ethernet cable to the router for everything above. But while it is online, all other computers' wireless connections become unusable. It is not an issue of signal strength or interference -- no other devices within scanning range are using Channel 1, and the problem will affect computers that are literally feet away from the router with 95% signal strength.

  • Drawing a TextBox in an extended Glass Frame w/o WPF

    - by Lazlo
    I am trying to draw a TextBox on the extended glass frame of my form. I won't describe this technique, it's well-known. Here's an example for those who haven't heard of it: http://www.danielmoth.com/Blog/Vista-Glass-In-C.aspx The thing is, it is complex to draw over this glass frame. Since black is considered to be the 0-alpha color, anything black disappears. There are apparently ways of countering this problem: drawing complex GDI+ shapes are not affected by this alpha-ness. For example, this code can be used to draw a Label on glass (note: GraphicsPath is used instead of DrawString in order to get around the horrible ClearType problem): public class GlassLabel : Control { public GlassLabel() { this.BackColor = Color.Black; } protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { GraphicsPath font = new GraphicsPath(); font.AddString( this.Text, this.Font.FontFamily, (int)this.Font.Style, this.Font.Size, Point.Empty, StringFormat.GenericDefault); e.Graphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.HighQuality; e.Graphics.FillPath(new SolidBrush(this.ForeColor), font); } } Similarly, such an approach can be used to create a container on the glass area. Note the use of the polygons instead of the rectangle - when using the rectangle, its black parts are considered as alpha. public class GlassPanel : Panel { public GlassPanel() { this.BackColor = Color.Black; } protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { Point[] area = new Point[] { new Point(0, 1), new Point(1, 0), new Point(this.Width - 2, 0), new Point(this.Width - 1, 1), new Point(this.Width -1, this.Height - 2), new Point(this.Width -2, this.Height-1), new Point(1, this.Height -1), new Point(0, this.Height - 2) }; Point[] inArea = new Point[] { new Point(1, 1), new Point(this.Width - 1, 1), new Point(this.Width - 1, this.Height - 1), new Point(this.Width - 1, this.Height - 1), new Point(1, this.Height - 1) }; e.Graphics.FillPolygon(new SolidBrush(Color.FromArgb(240, 240, 240)), inArea); e.Graphics.DrawPolygon(new Pen(Color.FromArgb(55, 0, 0, 0)), area); base.OnPaint(e); } } Now my problem is: How can I draw a TextBox? After lots of Googling, I came up with the following solutions: Subclassing the TextBox's OnPaint method. This is possible, although I could not get it to work properly. It should involve painting some magic things I don't know how to do yet. Making my own custom TextBox, perhaps on a TextBoxBase. If anyone has good, valid and working examples, and thinks this could be a good overall solution, please tell me. Using BufferedPaintSetAlpha. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms649805.aspx). The downsides of this method may be that the corners of the textbox might look odd, but I can live with that. If anyone knows how to implement that method properly from a Graphics object, please tell me. I personally don't, but this seems the best solution so far. To be honest, I found a great C++ article, but I am way too lazy to convert it. http://weblogs.asp.net/kennykerr/archive/2007/01/23/controls-and-the-desktop-window-manager.aspx Note: If I ever succeed with the BufferedPaint methods, I swear to s/o that I will make a simple DLL with all the common Windows Forms controls drawable on glass.

  • LDAP over SSL with an EFI Fiery printer

    - by austinian
    I've got a printer with a Fiery running 8e Release 2. I can authenticate users against AD using the LDAP configuration, but I can only get it to work if I don't use SSL/TLS, and only if I use SIMPLE authentication. Right now, it's authenticating using a fairly low-impact user, but it's also the only system on our network that's not using LDAPS. I can get AD info fine over LDAPS using ldp.exe from my machine, our firewall, our mail filter, our linux boxes, etc. The only problem child is the Fiery. I've added the LDAP server certificate as a trusted cert to the Fiery, but after I check the box for Secure Communication and change the port to 636, pressing Validate results in a dialog box coming up saying: LDAP Validation Failed Server Name invalid or server is unavailable. I've tried changing the server name to use just the name, the FQDN, and the IP address, and changed it to another server, just to see if it was just this AD server that was fussy with the Fiery. EDIT: removed LDP output, added packet capture analysis from wireshark: The conversation seems pretty normal to me, up to the point where the Fiery terminates the connection after the server sends back a handshake response. Maybe they messed up their TLS implementation? I'm trying support, but it's been fairly useless so far. The cert is a SHA-2 (sha256RSA) 2048-bit certificate. Also, it looks like the Fiery is specifying TLS 1.0. Looking at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa374757(v=vs.85).aspx, I'm not seeing SHA256 and TLS 1.0 combination being supported by SChannel. headdesk perhaps that's why, after the DC changes the cipher spec, the connection is terminated by the Fiery? • Solving Combinatory Problems with LINQ /.NET4

    - by slf
    I saw this article pop-up in my MSDN RSS feed, and after reading through it, and the sourced article here I began to wonder about the solution. The rules are simple: Find a number consisting of 9 digits in which each of the digits from 1 to 9 appears only once. This number must also satisfy these divisibility requirements: The number should be divisible by 9. If the rightmost digit is removed, the remaining number should be divisible by 8. If the rightmost digit of the new number is removed, the remaining number should be divisible by 7. And so on, until there's only one digit (which will necessarily be divisible by 1). This is his proposed monster LINQ query: // C# and LINQ solution to the numeric problem presented in: // http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2009/12/07/intel-parallel-studio-great-for-serial-code-too-episode-1/ int[] oneToNine = new int[] { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 }; // the query var query = from i1 in oneToNine from i2 in oneToNine where i2 != i1 && (i1 * 10 + i2) % 2 == 0 from i3 in oneToNine where i3 != i2 && i3 != i1 && (i1 * 100 + i2 * 10 + i3) % 3 == 0 from i4 in oneToNine where i4 != i3 && i4 != i2 && i4 != i1 && (i1 * 1000 + i2 * 100 + i3 * 10 + i4) % 4 == 0 from i5 in oneToNine where i5 != i4 && i5 != i3 && i5 != i2 && i5 != i1 && (i1 * 10000 + i2 * 1000 + i3 * 100 + i4 * 10 + i5) % 5 == 0 from i6 in oneToNine where i6 != i5 && i6 != i4 && i6 != i3 && i6 != i2 && i6 != i1 && (i1 * 100000 + i2 * 10000 + i3 * 1000 + i4 * 100 + i5 * 10 + i6) % 6 == 0 from i7 in oneToNine where i7 != i6 && i7 != i5 && i7 != i4 && i7 != i3 && i7 != i2 && i7 != i1 && (i1 * 1000000 + i2 * 100000 + i3 * 10000 + i4 * 1000 + i5 * 100 + i6 * 10 + i7) % 7 == 0 from i8 in oneToNine where i8 != i7 && i8 != i6 && i8 != i5 && i8 != i4 && i8 != i3 && i8 != i2 && i8 != i1 && (i1 * 10000000 + i2 * 1000000 + i3 * 100000 + i4 * 10000 + i5 * 1000 + i6 * 100 + i7 * 10 + i8) % 8 == 0 from i9 in oneToNine where i9 != i8 && i9 != i7 && i9 != i6 && i9 != i5 && i9 != i4 && i9 != i3 && i9 != i2 && i9 != i1 let number = i1 * 100000000 + i2 * 10000000 + i3 * 1000000 + i4 * 100000 + i5 * 10000 + i6 * 1000 + i7 * 100 + i8 * 10 + i9 * 1 where number % 9 == 0 select number; // run it! foreach (int n in query) Console.WriteLine(n); Octavio states "Note that no attempt at all has been made to optimize the code", what I'd like to know is what if we DID attempt to optimize this code. Is this really the best this code can get? I'd like to know how we can do this best with .NET4, in particular doing as much in parallel as we possibly can. I'm not necessarily looking for an answer in pure LINQ, assume .NET4 in any form (managed c++, c#, etc all acceptable).

  • WPF Xaml Custom Styling Selected Item Style in a ListBox

    - by John Batdorf
    I have a list box that scrolls images horizontally. I have the following XAML I used blend to create it. It originally had a x:Key on the Style TaregetType line, MSDN said to remove it, as I was getting errors on that. Now I'm getting this error: Error 3 Operation is not valid while ItemsSource is in use. Access and modify elements with ItemsControl.ItemsSource instead. I don't understand how to apply all of this junk that way, I've tried several thing, nothing is working. My goal is to have the selected item's background be white, not blue. Seems like a lot of work for something so small! Thanks. <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource WPFApparelCollection}}" Grid.Row="1" Margin="2,26,2,104" ScrollViewer.VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden" ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden" SelectionMode="Single" x:Name="list1" MouseLeave="List1_MouseLeave" MouseMove="List1_MouseMove" Style="{DynamicResource ListBoxStyle1}" > <Style TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent"/> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="{Binding Path=HorizontalContentAlignment, RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type ItemsControl}}}"/> <Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="{Binding Path=VerticalContentAlignment, RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type ItemsControl}}}"/> <Setter Property="Padding" Value="2,0,0,0"/> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Border x:Name="Bd" SnapsToDevicePixels="true" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}"> <ContentPresenter HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}" SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}"/> </Border> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="true"> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.HighlightTextBrushKey}}"/> <Setter Property="Background" TargetName="Bd" Value="#FFFFFFFF"/> </Trigger> <MultiTrigger> <MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Condition Property="IsSelected" Value="true"/> <Condition Property="Selector.IsSelectionActive" Value="false"/> </MultiTrigger.Conditions> <Setter Property="Background" TargetName="Bd" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.ControlBrushKey}}"/> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.ControlTextBrushKey}}"/> </MultiTrigger> <Trigger Property="IsEnabled" Value="false"> <Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.GrayTextBrushKey}}"/> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> <ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <VirtualizingStackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" IsItemsHost="True" /> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Image Source="{Binding Image}" /> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox>

  • Error Handling without Exceptions

    - by James
    While searching SO for approaches to error handling related to business rule validation , all I encounter are examples of structured exception handling. MSDN and many other reputable development resources are very clear that exceptions are not to be used to handle routine error cases. They are only to be used for exceptional circumstances and unexpected errors that may occur from improper use by the programmer (but not the user.) In many cases, user errors such as fields that are left blank are common, and things which our program should expect, and therefore are not exceptional and not candidates for use of exceptions. QUOTE: Remember that the use of the term exception in programming has to do with the thinking that an exception should represent an exceptional condition. Exceptional conditions, by their very nature, do not normally occur; so your code should not throw exceptions as part of its everyday operations. Do not throw exceptions to signal commonly occurring events. Consider using alternate methods to communicate to a caller the occurrence of those events and leave the exception throwing for when something truly out of the ordinary happens. For example, proper use: private void DoSomething(string requiredParameter) { if (requiredParameter == null) throw new ArgumentExpcetion("requiredParameter cannot be null"); // Remainder of method body... } Improper use: // Renames item to a name supplied by the user. Name must begin with an "F". public void RenameItem(string newName) { // Items must have names that begin with "F" if (!newName.StartsWith("F")) throw new RenameException("New name must begin with /"F/""); // Remainder of method body... } In the above case, according to best practices, it would have been better to pass the error up to the UI without involving/requiring .NET's exception handling mechanisms. Using the same example above, suppose one were to need to enforce a set of naming rules against items. What approach would be best? Having the method return a enumerated result? RenameResult.Success, RenameResult.TooShort, RenameResult.TooLong, RenameResult.InvalidCharacters, etc. Using an event in a controller class to report to the UI class? The UI calls the controller's RenameItem method, and then handles an AfterRename event that the controller raises and that has rename status as part of the event args? The controlling class directly references and calls a method from the UI class that handles the error, e.g. ReportError(string text). Something else... ? Essentially, I want to know how to perform complex validation in classes that may not be the Form class itself, and pass the errors back to the Form class for display -- but I do not want to involve exception handling where it should not be used (even though it seems much easier!) Based on responses to the question, I feel that I'll have to state the problem in terms that are more concrete: UI = User Interface, BLL = Business Logic Layer (in this case, just a different class) User enters value within UI. UI reports value to BLL. BLL performs routine validation of the value. BLL discovers rule violation. BLL returns rule violation to UI. UI recieves return from BLL and reports error to user. Since it is routine for a user to enter invalid values, exceptions should not be used. What is the right way to do this without exceptions?

  • bind() fails with windows socket error 10038

    - by herrturtur
    I'm trying to write a simple program that will receive a string of max 20 characters and print that string to the screen. The code compiles, but I get a bind() failed: 10038. After looking up the error number on msdn (socket operation on nonsocket), I changed some code from int sock; to SOCKET sock which shouldn't make a difference, but one never knows. Here's the code: #include <iostream> #include <winsock2.h> #include <cstdlib> using namespace std; const int MAXPENDING = 5; const int MAX_LENGTH = 20; void DieWithError(char *errorMessage); int main(int argc, char **argv) { if(argc!=2){ cerr << "Usage: " << argv[0] << " <Port>" << endl; exit(1); } // start winsock2 library WSAData wsaData; if(WSAStartup(MAKEWORD(2,0), &wsaData)!=0){ cerr << "WSAStartup() failed" << endl; exit(1); } // create socket for incoming connections SOCKET servSock; if(servSock=socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP)==INVALID_SOCKET) DieWithError("socket() failed"); // construct local address structure struct sockaddr_in servAddr; memset(&servAddr, 0, sizeof(servAddr)); servAddr.sin_family = AF_INET; servAddr.sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY; servAddr.sin_port = htons(atoi(argv[1])); // bind to the local address int servAddrLen = sizeof(servAddr); if(bind(servSock, (SOCKADDR*)&servAddr, servAddrLen)==SOCKET_ERROR) DieWithError("bind() failed"); // mark the socket to listen for incoming connections if(listen(servSock, MAXPENDING)<0) DieWithError("listen() failed"); // accept incoming connections int clientSock; struct sockaddr_in clientAddr; char buffer[MAX_LENGTH]; int recvMsgSize; int clientAddrLen = sizeof(clientAddr); for(;;){ // wait for a client to connect if((clientSock=accept(servSock, (sockaddr*)&clientAddr, &clientAddrLen))<0) DieWithError("accept() failed"); // clientSock is connected to a client // BEGIN Handle client cout << "Handling client " << inet_ntoa(clientAddr.sin_addr) << endl; if((recvMsgSize = recv(clientSock, buffer, MAX_LENGTH, 0)) <0) DieWithError("recv() failed"); cout << "Word in the tubes: " << buffer << endl; closesocket(clientSock); // END Handle client } } void DieWithError(char *errorMessage) { fprintf(stderr, "%s: %d\n", errorMessage, WSAGetLastError()); exit(1); }

  • Overriding Object.Equals() instance method in C#; now Code Analysis / FxCop warning CA2218: "should

    - by Chris W. Rea
    I've got a complex class in my C# project on which I want to be able to do equality tests. It is not a trivial class; it contains a variety of scalar properties as well as references to other objects and collections (e.g. IDictionary). For what it's worth, my class is sealed. To enable a performance optimization elsewhere in my system (an optimization that avoids a costly network round-trip), I need to be able to compare instances of these objects to each other for equality – other than the built-in reference equality – and so I'm overriding the Object.Equals() instance method. However, now that I've done that, Visual Studio 2008's Code Analysis a.k.a. FxCop, which I keep enabled by default, is raising the following warning: warning : CA2218 : Microsoft.Usage : Since 'MySuperDuperClass' redefines Equals, it should also redefine GetHashCode. I think I understand the rationale for this warning: If I am going to be using such objects as the key in a collection, the hash code is important. i.e. see this question. However, I am not going to be using these objects as the key in a collection. Ever. Feeling justified to suppress the warning, I looked up code CA2218 in the MSDN documentation to get the full name of the warning so I could apply a SuppressMessage attribute to my class as follows: [SuppressMessage("Microsoft.Naming", "CA2218:OverrideGetHashCodeOnOverridingEquals", Justification="This class is not to be used as key in a hashtable.")] However, while reading further, I noticed the following: How to Fix Violations To fix a violation of this rule, provide an implementation of GetHashCode. For a pair of objects of the same type, you must ensure that the implementation returns the same value if your implementation of Equals returns true for the pair. When to Suppress Warnings ----- Do not suppress a warning from this rule. [arrow & emphasis mine] So, I'd like to know: Why shouldn't I suppress this warning as I was planning to? Doesn't my case warrant suppression? I don't want to code up an implementation of GetHashCode() for this object that will never get called, since my object will never be the key in a collection. If I wanted to be pedantic, instead of suppressing, would it be more reasonable for me to override GetHashCode() with an implementation that throws a NotImplementedException? Update: I just looked this subject up again in Bill Wagner's good book Effective C#, and he states in "Item 10: Understand the Pitfalls of GetHashCode()": If you're defining a type that won't ever be used as the key in a container, this won't matter. Types that represent window controls, web page controls, or database connections are unlikely to be used as keys in a collection. In those cases, do nothing. All reference types will have a hash code that is correct, even if it is very inefficient. [...] In most types that you create, the best approach is to avoid the existence of GetHashCode() entirely. ... that's where I originally got this idea that I need not be concerned about GetHashCode() always.

  • Need Help Setting Transparent Image to Clipboard

    - by AMissico
    I need help setting a transparent image to the clipboard. I keep getting "handle is invalid". Following is the specific code with the complete working project at ftp://missico.net/ImageVisualizer.zip. This is an image Debug Visualizer class library, but I made to run as executable for testing. (Note that window is a toolbox window and show in taskbar is set to false.) I was tired of having to perform a screen capture on the toolbox window, open with an image editor, and then deleting the background added due to the screen capture. So I thought I would quickly put the transparent image onto the clipboard. Well, the problem is...no transparency support for Clipboard.SetImage. Google to the rescue...not quite. This is what I have so far pulled from a number of sources. See the code for the main reference. My problem is the "invalid handle" when using CF_DIBV5. I imagine the problem is related to BITMAPV5HEADER and CreateDIBitmap. Any help from you GDI/GDI+ Wizards would be greatly appreciated. public static void SetClipboardData(Bitmap bitmap, IntPtr hDC) { const uint SRCCOPY = 0x00CC0020; const int CF_DIBV5 = 17; const int CF_BITMAP = 2; //'reference //'http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winforms/thread/816a35f6-9530-442b-9647-e856602cc0e2 IntPtr memDC = CreateCompatibleDC(hDC); IntPtr memBM = CreateCompatibleBitmap(hDC, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height); SelectObject(memDC, memBM); using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap)) { IntPtr hBitmapDC = g.GetHdc(); IntPtr hBitmap = bitmap.GetHbitmap(); SelectObject(hBitmapDC, hBitmap); BitBlt(memDC, 0, 0, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height, hBitmapDC, 0, 0, SRCCOPY); if (!OpenClipboard(IntPtr.Zero)) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not open Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } if (!EmptyClipboard()) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Unable to empty Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } //IntPtr hClipboard = SetClipboardData(CF_BITMAP, memBM); //works but image is not transparent //all my attempts result in SetClipboardData returning hClipboard = IntPtr.Zero IntPtr hClipboard = SetClipboardData(CF_DIBV5, memBM); //because if (hClipboard == IntPtr.Zero) { // InnerException: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception // Message="The handle is invalid" // ErrorCode=-2147467259 // NativeErrorCode=6 // InnerException: throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not put data on Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } if (!CloseClipboard()) { throw new System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException("Could not close Clipboard", new Win32Exception()); } g.ReleaseHdc(hBitmapDC); } } private void __copyMenuItem_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //'Applications that I have verified can paste the clipboard custom data format PNG are: //' Word 2003 //' Excel 2003 using (Graphics g = __pictureBox.CreateGraphics()) { IntPtr hDC = g.GetHdc(); MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); __pictureBox.Image.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Png); ms.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin); Image imag = Image.FromStream(ms); // Derive BitMap object using Image instance, so that you can avoid the issue //"a graphics object cannot be created from an image that has an indexed pixel format" Bitmap img = new Bitmap(new Bitmap(imag)); SetClipboardData(img, hDC); g.ReleaseHdc(); } }

  • DataTable to JSON

    - by Joel Coehoorn
    I recently needed to serialize a datatable to JSON. Where I'm at we're still on .Net 2.0, so I can't use the JSON serializer in .Net 3.5. I figured this must have been done before, so I went looking online and found a number of different options. Some of them depend on an additional library, which I would have a hard time pushing through here. Others require first converting to List<Dictionary<>>, which seemed a little awkward and needless. Another treated all values like a string. For one reason or another I couldn't really get behind any of them, so I decided to roll my own, which is posted below. As you can see from reading the //TODO comments, it's incomplete in a few places. This code is already in production here, so it does "work" in the basic sense. The places where it's incomplete are places where we know our production data won't currently hit it (no timespans or byte arrays in the db). The reason I'm posting here is that I feel like this can be a little better, and I'd like help finishing and improving this code. Any input welcome. public static class JSONHelper { public static string FromDataTable(DataTable dt) { string rowDelimiter = ""; StringBuilder result = new StringBuilder("["); foreach (DataRow row in dt.Rows) { result.Append(rowDelimiter); result.Append(FromDataRow(row)); rowDelimiter = ","; } result.Append("]"); return result.ToString(); } public static string FromDataRow(DataRow row) { DataColumnCollection cols = row.Table.Columns; string colDelimiter = ""; StringBuilder result = new StringBuilder("{"); for (int i = 0; i < cols.Count; i++) { // use index rather than foreach, so we can use the index for both the row and cols collection result.Append(colDelimiter).Append("\"") .Append(cols[i].ColumnName).Append("\":") .Append(JSONValueFromDataRowObject(row[i], cols[i].DataType)); colDelimiter = ","; } result.Append("}"); return result.ToString(); } // possible types: // http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.datacolumn.datatype(VS.80).aspx private static Type[] numeric = new Type[] {typeof(byte), typeof(decimal), typeof(double), typeof(Int16), typeof(Int32), typeof(SByte), typeof(Single), typeof(UInt16), typeof(UInt32), typeof(UInt64)}; // I don't want to rebuild this value for every date cell in the table private static long EpochTicks = new DateTime(1970, 1, 1).Ticks; private static string JSONValueFromDataRowObject(object value, Type DataType) { // null if (value == DBNull.Value) return "null"; // numeric if (Array.IndexOf(numeric, DataType) > -1) return value.ToString(); // TODO: eventually want to use a stricter format // boolean if (DataType == typeof(bool)) return ((bool)value) ? • news feed using .Net Dataservices / OData / Atom ?

    - by Stephan
    Let's say I have an web CMS type application, and an EDM model with an entity called 'article', and I need to offer the ability for client applications, to a read/query the articles (and other resources stored in our database) a straightforward syndication feed of these articles to end users (along the lines of a simple RSS feed) It seems to me that for the first task, and .net 4's dataservice would be perfect for the job. For the second case, I'm wondering (a) whether atom the right format to choose - I think it is - and (b) whether it's possible to achieve such a feed using the same ado.net OData service. I took a look at some of the examples out there and briefly set up a proof of concept: http://localhost/projectname/DataService.svc/Articles <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?> <feed xml:base="http://localhost/projectname/DataService.svc/" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices" xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <title type="text">Articles</title> <id>http://localhost/projectname/DataService.svc/Articles</id> <updated>2010-05-21T09:41:22Z</updated> <link rel="self" title="Articles" href="Articles" /> <entry> <id>http://---------DataService.svc/Articles(1)</id> <title type="text"></title> <updated>2010-05-21T09:41:22Z</updated> <author> <name /> </author> <link rel="edit" title="Article" href="Articles(1)" /> <category term="Model1.Article" scheme="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/scheme" /> <content type="application/xml"> <m:properties> <d:int_ContentID m:type="Edm.Int32">1</d:int_ContentID> <d:Titel>hello world</d:Titel> <d:Source>http://www.google.com</d:Source> </m:properties> </content> </entry> </feed> and noticed that, though the feed works and items are showing up, the title tag on the entry level is left blank. (as a result, when you check this feed in a feed reader, you will see no title). I searched msdn but haven't found a way to do that, but it should be possible. Stackoverflow itself uses an atom feed in that fashion, so it should be possible. Right? So I suppose my question is; Is there a way to make the ado.net dataservice Atom feed look like something suitable for your average news feed reader? - OR, am I using the wrong tool for the wrong purposes, and should I be looking elsewhere (.net syndication API's perhaps)?

  • Issue with translating a delegate function from c# to vb.net for use with Google OAuth 2

    - by Jeremy
    I've been trying to translate a Google OAuth 2 example from C# to Vb.net for a co-worker's project. I'm having on end of issues translating the following methods: private OAuth2Authenticator<WebServerClient> CreateAuthenticator() { // Register the authenticator. var provider = new WebServerClient(GoogleAuthenticationServer.Description); provider.ClientIdentifier = ClientCredentials.ClientID; provider.ClientSecret = ClientCredentials.ClientSecret; var authenticator = new OAuth2Authenticator<WebServerClient>(provider, GetAuthorization) { NoCaching = true }; return authenticator; } private IAuthorizationState GetAuthorization(WebServerClient client) { // If this user is already authenticated, then just return the auth state. IAuthorizationState state = AuthState; if (state != null) { return state; } // Check if an authorization request already is in progress. state = client.ProcessUserAuthorization(new HttpRequestInfo(HttpContext.Current.Request)); if (state != null && (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(state.AccessToken) || !string.IsNullOrEmpty(state.RefreshToken))) { // Store and return the credentials. HttpContext.Current.Session["AUTH_STATE"] = _state = state; return state; } // Otherwise do a new authorization request. string scope = TasksService.Scopes.TasksReadonly.GetStringValue(); OutgoingWebResponse response = client.PrepareRequestUserAuthorization(new[] { scope }); response.Send(); // Will throw a ThreadAbortException to prevent sending another response. return null; } The main issue being this line: var authenticator = new OAuth2Authenticator<WebServerClient>(provider, GetAuthorization) { NoCaching = true }; The Method signature reads as for this particular line reads as follows: Public Sub New(tokenProvider As TClient, authProvider As System.Func(Of TClient, DotNetOpenAuth.OAuth2.IAuthorizationState)) My understanding of Delegate functions in VB.net isn't the greatest. However I have read over all of the MSDN documentation and other relevant resources on the web, but I'm still stuck as to how to translate this particular line. So far all of my attempts have resulted in either the a cast error (see below) or no call to GetAuthorization. The Code (vb.net on .net 3.5) Private Function CreateAuthenticator() As OAuth2Authenticator(Of WebServerClient) ' Register the authenticator. Dim client As New WebServerClient(GoogleAuthenticationServer.Description, oauth.ClientID, oauth.ClientSecret) Dim authDelegate As Func(Of WebServerClient, IAuthorizationState) = AddressOf GetAuthorization Dim authenticator = New OAuth2Authenticator(Of WebServerClient)(client, authDelegate) With {.NoCaching = True} 'Dim authenticator = New OAuth2Authenticator(Of WebServerClient)(client, GetAuthorization(client)) With {.NoCaching = True} 'Dim authenticator = New OAuth2Authenticator(Of WebServerClient)(client, New Func(Of WebServerClient, IAuthorizationState)(Function(c) GetAuthorization(c))) With {.NoCaching = True} 'Dim authenticator = New OAuth2Authenticator(Of WebServerClient)(client, New Func(Of WebServerClient, IAuthorizationState)(AddressOf GetAuthorization)) With {.NoCaching = True} Return authenticator End Function Private Function GetAuthorization(arg As WebServerClient) As IAuthorizationState ' If this user is already authenticated, then just return the auth state. Dim state As IAuthorizationState = AuthState If (Not state Is Nothing) Then Return state End If ' Check if an authorization request already is in progress. state = arg.ProcessUserAuthorization(New HttpRequestInfo(HttpContext.Current.Request)) If (state IsNot Nothing) Then If ((String.IsNullOrEmpty(state.AccessToken) = False Or String.IsNullOrEmpty(state.RefreshToken) = False)) Then ' Store Credentials HttpContext.Current.Session("AUTH_STATE") = state _state = state Return state End If End If ' Otherwise do a new authorization request. Dim scope As String = AnalyticsService.Scopes.AnalyticsReadonly.GetStringValue() Dim _response As OutgoingWebResponse = arg.PrepareRequestUserAuthorization(New String() {scope}) ' Add Offline Access and forced Approval _response.Headers("location") += "&access_type=offline&approval_prompt=force" _response.Send() ' Will throw a ThreadAbortException to prevent sending another response. Return Nothing End Function The Cast Error Server Error in '/' Application. Unable to cast object of type 'DotNetOpenAuth.OAuth2.AuthorizationState' to type 'System.Func`2[DotNetOpenAuth.OAuth2.WebServerClient,DotNetOpenAuth.OAuth2.IAuthorizationState]'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. • [C#] Not enough memory or not enough handles?

    - by Nayan
    I am working on a large scale project where a custom (pretty good and robust) framework has been provided and we have to use that for showing up forms and views. There is abstract class StrategyEditor (derived from some class in framework) which is instantiated whenever a new StrategyForm is opened. StrategyForm (a customized window frame) contains StrategyEditor. StrategyEditor contains StrategyTab. StrategyTab contains StrategyCanvas. This is a small portion of the big classes to clarify that there are many objects that will be created if one StrategyForm object is allocated in memory at run-time. My component owns all these classes mentioned above except StrategyForm whose code is not in my control. Now, at run-time, user opens up many strategy objects (which trigger creation of new StrategyForm object.) After creating approx. 44 strategy objects, we see that the USER OBJECT HANDLES (I'll use UOH from here onwards) created by the application reaches to about 20k+, while in registry the default amount for handles is 10k. Read more about User Objects here. Testing on different machines made it clear that the number of strategy objects opened is different for message to pop-up - on one m/c if it is 44, then it can be 40 on another. When we see the message pop-up, it means that the application is going to respond slowly. It gets worse with few more objects and then creation of window frames and subsequent objects fail. We first thought that it was not-enough-memory issue. But then reading more about new in C# helped in understanding that an exception would be thrown if app ran out of memory. This is not a memory issue then, I feel (task manager also showed 1.5GB+ available memory.) M/C specs Core 2 Duo 2GHz+ 4GB RAM 80GB+ free disk space for page file Virtual Memory set: 4000 - 6000 My questions Q1. Does this look like a memory issue and I am wrong that it is not? Q2. Does this point to exhaustion of free UOHs (as I'm thinking) and which is resulting in failure of creation of window handles? Q3. How can we avoid loading up of an StrategyEditor object (beyond a threshold, keeping an eye on the current usage of UOHs)? (we already know how to fetch number of UOHs in use, so don't go there.) Keep in mind that the call to new StrategyForm() is outside the control of my component. Q4. I am bit confused - what are Handles to user objects exactly? Is MSDN talking about any object that we create or only some specific objects like window handles, cursor handles, icon handles? Q5. What exactly cause to use up a UOH? (almost same as Q4) I would be really thankful to anyone who can give me some knowledgeable answers. Thanks much! :)

  • C# Asynchronous Network IO and OutOfMemoryException

    - by The.Anti.9
    I'm working on a client/server application in C#, and I need to get Asynchronous sockets working so I can handle multiple connections at once. Technically it works the way it is now, but I get an OutOfMemoryException after about 3 minutes of running. MSDN says to use a WaitHandler to do WaitOne() after the socket.BeginAccept(), but it doesn't actually let me do that. When I try to do that in the code it says WaitHandler is an abstract class or interface, and I can't instantiate it. I thought maybe Id try a static reference, but it doesnt have teh WaitOne() method, just WaitAll() and WaitAny(). The main problem is that in the docs it doesn't give a full code snippet, so you can't actually see what their "wait handler" is coming from. its just a variable called allDone, which also has a Reset() method in the snippet, which a waithandler doesn't have. After digging around in their docs, I found some related thing about an AutoResetEvent in the Threading namespace. It has a WaitOne() and a Reset() method. So I tried that around the while(true) { ... socket.BeginAccept( ... ); ... }. Unfortunately this makes it only take one connection at a time. So I'm not really sure where to go. Here's my code: class ServerRunner { private Byte[] data = new Byte[2048]; private int size = 2048; private Socket server; static AutoResetEvent allDone = new AutoResetEvent(false); public ServerRunner() { server = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp); IPEndPoint iep = new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 33333); server.Bind(iep); Console.WriteLine("Server initialized.."); } public void Run() { server.Listen(100); Console.WriteLine("Listening..."); while (true) { //allDone.Reset(); server.BeginAccept(new AsyncCallback(AcceptCon), server); //allDone.WaitOne(); } } void AcceptCon(IAsyncResult iar) { Socket oldserver = (Socket)iar.AsyncState; Socket client = oldserver.EndAccept(iar); Console.WriteLine(client.RemoteEndPoint.ToString() + " connected"); byte[] message = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("Welcome"); client.BeginSend(message, 0, message.Length, SocketFlags.None, new AsyncCallback(SendData), client); } void SendData(IAsyncResult iar) { Socket client = (Socket)iar.AsyncState; int sent = client.EndSend(iar); client.BeginReceive(data, 0, size, SocketFlags.None, new AsyncCallback(ReceiveData), client); } void ReceiveData(IAsyncResult iar) { Socket client = (Socket)iar.AsyncState; int recv = client.EndReceive(iar); if (recv == 0) { client.Close(); server.BeginAccept(new AsyncCallback(AcceptCon), server); return; } string receivedData = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(data, 0, recv); //process received data here byte[] message2 = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("reply"); client.BeginSend(message2, 0, message2.Length, SocketFlags.None, new AsyncCallback(SendData), client); } }

  • error LNK2019 for ZLib sample code compiling.

    - by Nano HE
    Hello. I created win32 console application in vs2010 (without select the option of precompiled header). And I inserted the code below. but *.obj link failed. • Two-way databinding of a custom templated control. Eval works, but not Bind.

    - by Jason
    I hate long code snippets and I'm sorry about this one, but it turns out that this asp.net stuff can't get much shorter and it's so specific that I haven't been able to generalize it without a full code listing. I just want simple two-way, declarative databinding to a single instance of an object. Not a list of objects of a type with a bunch of NotImplementedExceptions for Add, Delete, and Select, but just a single view-state persisted object. This is certainly something that can be done but I've struggled with an implementation for years. This newest, closest implementation was inspired by this article from 4-Guys-From-Rolla, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa478964.aspx. Unfortunately, after implementing, I'm getting the following error and I don't know what I'm missing: System.InvalidOperationException: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. If I don't use Bind(), and only use Eval() functionality, it works. In that way, the error is especially confusing. Here's the simplified codeset that still produces the error: using System.ComponentModel; namespace System.Web.UI.WebControls.Special { public class SampleFormData { public string SampleString = "Sample String Data"; public int SampleInt = -1; } [ToolboxItem(false)] public class SampleSpecificFormDataContainer : WebControl, INamingContainer { SampleSpecificEntryForm entryForm; internal SampleSpecificEntryForm EntryForm { get { return entryForm; } } [Bindable(true), Category("Data")] public string SampleString { get { return entryForm.FormData.SampleString; } set { entryForm.FormData.SampleString = value; } } [Bindable(true), Category("Data")] public int SampleInt { get { return entryForm.FormData.SampleInt; } set { entryForm.FormData.SampleInt = value; } } internal SampleSpecificFormDataContainer(SampleSpecificEntryForm entryForm) { this.entryForm = entryForm; } } public class SampleSpecificEntryForm : WebControl, INamingContainer { #region Template private IBindableTemplate formTemplate = null; [Browsable(false), DefaultValue(null), TemplateContainer(typeof(SampleSpecificFormDataContainer), ComponentModel.BindingDirection.TwoWay), PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public virtual IBindableTemplate FormTemplate { get { return formTemplate; } set { formTemplate = value; } } #endregion #region Viewstate SampleFormData FormDataVS { get { return (ViewState["FormData"] as SampleFormData) ?? new SampleFormData(); } set { ViewState["FormData"] = value; SaveViewState(); } } #endregion public override ControlCollection Controls { get { EnsureChildControls(); return base.Controls; } } private SampleSpecificFormDataContainer formDataContainer = null; [Browsable(false), DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)] public SampleSpecificFormDataContainer FormDataContainer { get { EnsureChildControls(); return formDataContainer; } } [Bindable(true), Browsable(false)] public SampleFormData FormData { get { return FormDataVS; } set { FormDataVS = value; } } protected override void CreateChildControls() { if (!this.ChildControlsCreated) { Controls.Clear(); formDataContainer = new SampleSpecificFormDataContainer(this); Controls.Add(formDataContainer); FormTemplate.InstantiateIn(formDataContainer); this.ChildControlsCreated = true; } } public override void DataBind() { CreateChildControls(); base.DataBind(); } } } With an ASP.NET page the following: <%@ Page Title="Home Page" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default2.aspx.cs" Inherits="EntryFormTest._Default2" EnableEventValidation="false" %> <%@ Register Assembly="EntryForm" Namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Special" TagPrefix="cc1" %> <asp:Content ID="HeaderContent" runat="server" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent"> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="BodyContent" runat="server" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent"> <h2> Welcome to ASP.NET! </h2> <cc1:SampleSpecificEntryForm ID="EntryForm1" runat="server"> <FormTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("SampleString") %>'></asp:TextBox><br /> <h3>(<%# Container.SampleString %>)</h3><br /> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" /> </FormTemplate> </cc1:SampleSpecificEntryForm> </asp:Content> Default2.aspx.cs using System; namespace EntryFormTest { public partial class _Default2 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { EntryForm1.DataBind(); } } } Thanks for any help!

  • client-side validation in custom validation attribute - asp.net mvc 4

    - by Giorgos Manoltzas
    I have followed some articles and tutorials over the internet in order to create a custom validation attribute that also supports client-side validation in an asp.net mvc 4 website. This is what i have until now: RequiredIfAttribute.cs [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = true)] //Added public class RequiredIfAttribute : ValidationAttribute, IClientValidatable { private readonly string condition; private string propertyName; //Added public RequiredIfAttribute(string condition) { this.condition = condition; this.propertyName = propertyName; //Added } protected override ValidationResult IsValid(object value, ValidationContext validationContext) { PropertyInfo propertyInfo = validationContext.ObjectType.GetProperty(this.propertyName); //Added Delegate conditionFunction = CreateExpression(validationContext.ObjectType, _condition); bool conditionMet = (bool)conditionFunction.DynamicInvoke(validationContext.ObjectInstance); if (conditionMet) { if (value == null) { return new ValidationResult(FormatErrorMessage(null)); } } return ValidationResult.Success; } private Delegate CreateExpression(Type objectType, string expression) { LambdaExpression lambdaExpression = System.Linq.Dynamic.DynamicExpression.ParseLambda(objectType, typeof(bool), expression); //Added Delegate function = lambdaExpression.Compile(); return function; } public IEnumerable<ModelClientValidationRule> GetClientValidationRules(ModelMetadata metadata, ControllerContext context) { var modelClientValidationRule = new ModelClientValidationRule { ValidationType = "requiredif", ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage //Added }; modelClientValidationRule.ValidationParameters.Add("param", this.propertyName); //Added return new List<ModelClientValidationRule> { modelClientValidationRule }; } } Then i applied this attribute in a property of a class like this [RequiredIf("InAppPurchase == true", "InAppPurchase", ErrorMessage = "Please enter an in app purchase promotional price")] //Added "InAppPurchase" public string InAppPurchasePromotionalPrice { get; set; } public bool InAppPurchase { get; set; } So what i want to do is display an error message that field InAppPurchasePromotionalPrice is required when InAppPurchase field is true (that means checked in the form). The following is the relevant code form the view: <div class="control-group"> <label class="control-label" for="InAppPurchase">Does your app include In App Purchase?</label> <div class="controls"> @Html.CheckBoxFor(o => o.InAppPurchase) @Html.LabelFor(o => o.InAppPurchase, "Yes") </div> </div> <div class="control-group" id="InAppPurchasePromotionalPriceDiv" @(Model.InAppPurchase == true ? Html.Raw("style='display: block;'") : Html.Raw("style='display: none;'"))> <label class="control-label" for="InAppPurchasePromotionalPrice">App Friday Promotional Price for In App Purchase: </label> <div class="controls"> @Html.TextBoxFor(o => o.InAppPurchasePromotionalPrice, new { title = "This should be at the lowest price tier of free or $.99, just for your App Friday date." }) <span class="help-inline"> @Html.ValidationMessageFor(o => o.InAppPurchasePromotionalPrice) </span> </div> </div> This code works perfectly but when i submit the form a full post is requested on the server in order to display the message. So i created JavaScript code to enable client-side validation: requiredif.js (function ($) { $.validator.addMethod('requiredif', function (value, element, params) { /*var inAppPurchase = $('#InAppPurchase').is(':checked'); if (inAppPurchase) { return true; } return false;*/ var isChecked = $(param).is(':checked'); if (isChecked) { return false; } return true; }, ''); $.validator.unobtrusive.adapters.add('requiredif', ['param'], function (options) { options.rules["requiredif"] = '#' + options.params.param; options.messages['requiredif'] = options.message; }); })(jQuery); This is the proposed way in msdn and tutorials i have found Of course i have also inserted the needed scripts in the form: jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.min.js jquery.validate.min.js jquery.validate.unobtrusive.min.js requiredif.js BUT...client side validation still does not work. So could you please help me find what am i missing? Thanks in advance.

  • Does my GetEnumerator cause a deadlock?

    - by Scott Chamberlain
    I am starting to write my first parallel applications. This partitioner will enumerate over a IDataReader pulling chunkSize records at a time from the data-source. TLDR; version private object _Lock = new object(); public IEnumerator GetEnumerator() { var infoSource = myInforSource.GetEnumerator(); //Will this cause a deadlock if two threads lock (_Lock) //use the enumator at the same time? { while (infoSource.MoveNext()) { yield return infoSource.Current; } } } full code protected class DataSourcePartitioner<object[]> : System.Collections.Concurrent.Partitioner<object[]> { private readonly System.Data.IDataReader _Input; private readonly int _ChunkSize; public DataSourcePartitioner(System.Data.IDataReader input, int chunkSize = 10000) : base() { if (chunkSize < 1) throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("chunkSize"); _Input = input; _ChunkSize = chunkSize; } public override bool SupportsDynamicPartitions { get { return true; } } public override IList<IEnumerator<object[]>> GetPartitions(int partitionCount) { var dynamicPartitions = GetDynamicPartitions(); var partitions = new IEnumerator<object[]>[partitionCount]; for (int i = 0; i < partitionCount; i++) { partitions[i] = dynamicPartitions.GetEnumerator(); } return partitions; } public override IEnumerable<object[]> GetDynamicPartitions() { return new ListDynamicPartitions(_Input, _ChunkSize); } private class ListDynamicPartitions : IEnumerable<object[]> { private System.Data.IDataReader _Input; int _ChunkSize; private object _ChunkLock = new object(); public ListDynamicPartitions(System.Data.IDataReader input, int chunkSize) { _Input = input; _ChunkSize = chunkSize; } public IEnumerator<object[]> GetEnumerator() { while (true) { List<object[]> chunk = new List<object[]>(_ChunkSize); lock(_Input) { for (int i = 0; i < _ChunkSize; ++i) { if (!_Input.Read()) break; var values = new object[_Input.FieldCount]; _Input.GetValues(values); chunk.Add(values); } if (chunk.Count == 0) yield break; } var chunkEnumerator = chunk.GetEnumerator(); lock(_ChunkLock) //Will this cause a deadlock? { while (chunkEnumerator.MoveNext()) { yield return chunkEnumerator.Current; } } } } IEnumerator IEnumerable.GetEnumerator() { return ((IEnumerable<object[]>)this).GetEnumerator(); } } } I wanted IEnumerable object it passed back to be thread safe (the MSDN example was so I am assuming PLINQ and TPL could need it) will the lock on _ChunkLock near the bottom help provide thread safety or will it cause a deadlock? From the documentation I could not tell if the lock would be released on the yeld return. Also if there is built in functionality to .net that will do what I am trying to do I would much rather use that. And if you find any other problems with the code I would appreciate it.

  • Why cant I get a Thumb to be larger on a styled scrollbar in WPF.

    I have taken the MSDN templates for styling a scrollbar and have been trying to apply my different styles (Image on each track repeater and separate Image on the thumb) but I am unable to make the thumb change size. I have tried setting the Width on the Track.Thumb style and also in the ControlTemplate of the Thumb itself. For some reason the default size is only ever rendered even when the thumb actually occupies much more space. Does anyone know how to make the thumb render at the size that I want? The XAML I am using for the styles is here: <Style x:Key="ScrollBarThumb" TargetType="{x:Type Thumb}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Red" /> <Setter Property="OverridesDefaultStyle" Value="True"/> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Thumb}"> <Image Source="sampleimg.png" Stretch="Fill" /> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> <ControlTemplate x:Key="ArfleHBar" TargetType="{x:Type ScrollBar}"> <Grid > <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition MaxWidth="18"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="0.00001*"/> <ColumnDefinition MaxWidth="18"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <RepeatButton Grid.Column="0" Style="{StaticResource ScrollBarLineButton}" Width="18" Command="ScrollBar.LineLeftCommand" Content="M 4 0 L 4 8 L 0 4 Z" /> <Track Name="PART_Track" Grid.Column="1" IsDirectionReversed="False" > <Track.DecreaseRepeatButton> <RepeatButton Style="{StaticResource ScrollBarPageButton}" Command="ScrollBar.PageLeftCommand" Width="100"/> </Track.DecreaseRepeatButton> <Track.Thumb> <Thumb Style="{StaticResource ScrollBarThumb}" Margin="0,1,0,1" Width="250" Padding="0,0,0,0"> </Thumb> </Track.Thumb> <Track.IncreaseRepeatButton> <RepeatButton Style="{StaticResource ScrollBarPageButton}" Command="ScrollBar.PageRightCommand" Width="100" /> </Track.IncreaseRepeatButton> </Track> <RepeatButton Grid.Column="3" Style="{StaticResource ScrollBarLineButton}" Width="18" Command="ScrollBar.LineRightCommand" Content="M 0 0 L 4 4 L 0 8 Z"/> </Grid> </ControlTemplate> <Style x:Key="ArfleBar" TargetType="{x:Type ScrollBar}"> <Setter Property="SnapsToDevicePixels" Value="True"/> <Setter Property="OverridesDefaultStyle" Value="true"/> <Style.Triggers> <Trigger Property="Orientation" Value="Horizontal"> <Setter Property="Width" Value="Auto"/> <Setter Property="Height" Value="18" /> <Setter Property="Template" Value="{StaticResource ArfleHBar}" /> </Trigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style>
