• Where do current (not HTML5) browsers stand on clipboard support for non-text data?

  I don't really know where the line is between the browser itself and HTML/JS here. But let's say I want to write a web-app where I can copy a chunk of data from MSPaint (select, CTRL+c) and paste it into a web-page in some way... ultimately the point is the data goes to the server without me having to save it as a file first. Where are the problems here - browsers or client-side technologies? For instance if JS can't do it, could Flex/Silverlight? Advice on future technology welcome, but doesn't really answer the question - where are we right now with IE/FF/Chrome and JS/Flex/SL?

• C# public partial struct methods for more System.Windows.Media.Color

  How can I put in additional methods for manipulating color ? Best would be to overload the struct System.Windows.Media.Color. It is NOT a class (in c#). Now i'm tinkering with putting (in the same file for testing or must i put it in a different file) an namespace (Silverlight Application36 or System.Windows.Media ?) and a partial struct Color Normalize (double R, ...). I should see MyColor.Normalize() start being recognized by intellisense ? I'm not. I'm looking to put in a suite of overloaded color manipulations using floating and double numbers instead of unsigned byte integers. Any hints while I wack at it ? Cheers! dr.K

• Control margins of an automatically generated content presenter in Windows Phone Panorama Control

  I am building an MVVM Panorama Windows Phone 7 application. At some point of Panorama Item's layout I get a bottom margin of a panorama header box, that moves my content too far down. Is there a way I can set a bottom margin of a ContentPresenter, that is generated to hold the controls, defined in the Panorama.HeaderTemplate? Here is my layout list in Silverlight Spy: In case the screen shot is not readable, here is a large version: http://bit.ly/rBvNp8 Something generates a 26 points bottom margin for a header box (probably the control's code, that handles a layout). How can I control this value? I need it to be set to 0.

• Best way to move an image across part of the screen?

  I have a Silverlight WP7 app and an image on my page that I want to appear to slide across the screen. What is the best way of doing this? • Binding to an ObservableCollection of UserControls

  Simple Silverlight question: I have an ObservableCollection<MyObject> in my viewmodel. Every MyObject has a Label property. If I bind a ListBox to the collection and set DisplayMemberPath to Label, or set the ItemTemplate to a TextBlock that binds the Text property to Label, all works as expected. If I change MyObject so it derives from a UserControl, the Label text no longer shows up in the ListBox; each item just shows up as a blank strip a few pixels tall. Why is this? There's obviously something I'm missing here about how different things get rendered.

• Entity Framework insert error ("The Version field is required.")

  I am using Silverlight 4 and RIA services. When I try to insert into my database, I get the following error: "Submit operation failed validation. Please inspect Entity.ValidationErrors for each entity in EntitiesInError for more information." Upon inspecting the ValidationErrors, I see: "The Version field is required." Isn't the Version field updated and maintained by the framework? If so, why is it null? If not, how am I supposed to set it?

  Hello, Just look for strategies that have been successful in rendering hierarchies that represent inheritance structures using SL3/4 TreeViews. I need to render certain nodes differently than others, depending upon what kind of container they are (a choice between things, or simply a list of related things, etc.) So far, I've been very successful with the DataTemplate route: I've been able to use a technique described in Ted Glaza's post "Easy DataTemplateSelectors in Silverlight" (you may have retrieve a Google cache of this page). SO what I'm trying to discover is something on the order of a StyleSelector, not a DataTemplateSelector. I'm considering leveraging my current implementations of Glaza's pattern of selector objects to somehow detect the node type and set the ItemContainerStyle there, but it doesn't seem clear right now. • Why do my WPF UIElements NOT have OnPreview events?

  I'm building a custom Silverlight UserControl which needs to listen to events using Preview/Tunneling, but for some reason the compiler is telling me they are not recognized or accessible. For example, I can add an event handler to MouseLeftButtonDown, but not PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown. This doesn't make sense because according to Microsoft (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.uielement_members(v=VS.100).aspx) all UIElements should have Preview events attached. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Trial, Blend 4 RC and .Net 4, if that makes a difference.

  When I'm making asmx web service calls from Silverlight, is there any way to have the (generated) SoapClient objects modify the address that they call the service on? Specifically, I'd like to tack on a QueryString value onto each call that the service makes. So if I have DataService.SilverlightServiceSoapClient C = new DataService.SilverlightServiceSoapClient(); Is there any way to do something like: C.Address += "?Foo=Bar"; Which would allow me to, from my WebMethod, say: HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString["foo"]; Obviously I can modify my WebMethods to take this value in as a parameter, but I'd like to avoid doing that if possible.

• Capturing WPF Vector Information BEFORE it Renders to Screen

  I'm trying to "capture" or record the vector display information of a WPF (maybe Silverlight) application and play it back. However, instead of capturing bitmaps of what is rendered, I would like to capture the vector information BEFORE it gets rendered so that I can play it back at different resolutions without loss of quality. Ideally, I'd like to do this without having to add assemblies into my app (but willing to do so if necessary). I've looked into the WPF rendering pipeline and cannot find an appropriate starting point (or, stated differently, I couldn't figure it out). Maybe the VisualTreeHelper class?

  While working with SilverLight using Visual Studio 10, I found that in design mode XAML allows a wide plethora of colors. For ex. Lime is a valid color in XAML. <LinearGradientBrush EndPoint="1,0.5" StartPoint="0,0.5"> <GradientStop Color="Yellow" Offset="0" /> <GradientStop Color="Lime" Offset="1" /> While working with code though, I found that Lime and many other colors are missing... GradientStop blueGS = new GradientStop(); blueGS.Color = Colors.Lime; What am I missing? Both of these colors belong to System.Windows.Media.Colors.

• WCF net.tcp server disconnects - how to handle properly on client side?

  I'm stuck with a bit of an annoying problem right now. I've got a Silverlight 4 application (which runs OOB by default). It uses WCF with net.tcp as means of communicating with the server. The client uses a central instance of the wcf client proxy. As long as everything keeps running on the server side, everything's fine. If i kill the server in the middle of everything, i drown in an avalanche of exceptions on the client side (connection lost, channel faulted etc etc). Now i'm looking for a way to handle this in a clean and centralized way (if centralized is possible). The SL app has one central client object sitting in App.cs (public static MyClient Client { get;set;}), which gets initialized on application start. Any idea how to properly handle any connectivity problems on the client object?

• How can i handle mouse double click event on textbox?

  Hello, I want to open one child window on mouse double click of textbox. I know the only event available in Silverlight is MouseLeftButtonDown and you have to simulate double click. However it still doesn't work when i click in the middle of the textbox. It only works when i double click on the border of the textbox. Anybody has any ideas of how can i do this? If any 3rd party library is available then also it's fine. Thanks in advance:)

• possibility to do type/data conversion of data returned by ria services?

  My service returns an byte array, which I have to convert to an 'animated gif' (using imagetools since silverlight doesn't support it yet) I was wondering, is it possible to insert some code at the client, where I can do the conversion before the actual object is returned to whatever it is binded against? On the server side, the queries can be customized before it is sent over the wire. I'm asking for the exact opposite, can I do some on the fly conversions the moment they get of the wire and before they are returned to the controls. If I'm overthinking this and there is a smarter/better/easier way to do it, I'm all for such an answer as well

  Hi All, I am using silverlight unit tests to test an important part of our site. Is it possible to clear cookies before each unit test runs? The problem is that if I do this, HtmlPage.Document.Cookies = ""; It doesn't work. If the cookie already was this, key = value I can do this, HtmlPage.Document.Cookies = "key="; It kind of clears it out, but the string "key" is still part of the cookie. Any ideas? Are there any other classes in .NET that deal with cookies? The functionality seems quite limited when I am dealing with more complicated scenarios.

• Does anyone know of a way to easily convert a PDF to a docx format programmatically

  We have a couple 3rd party systems that give us PDFs. We would like to convert those PDFs for display on the web without using an Adobe product. Ideally we would like to use Silverlight to render the PDFs but are having trouble converting from a PDF to Xaml or using docx format as a middle man. There are lots of libraries that give PDFs but that is not what we need. If there is a library out there that does this, a .net lib would be preferable but we can run the conversion using the command line as well if that is an option.

• Missing something with Entity Framework for .NET 3.5?

  Is it not possible to have EF create the necessary entities when I have two related tables linked with a FK in .NET3.5SP1? I see where the checkbox to support this is disabled but it is available in .NET4. I've got a DB that has only tables with relationships in it. I need to build a Silverlight app (SL4) that allows management of the data within this app. I can't use .NET4 on the server... only .NET3.5SP1 so FK relationship bit in EF4 isn't available to me. Looking to avoid building as much of the plumbing to get back to the DB from the SL4 app as possible...

  Hi all, I am using Visual Studio 2008 and CR XI R2 for a web application built in silverlight. currently I am having a problem with showing a dynamic image on a crystal report. I was told that the reference file added in the project might be old version, so I replaced the reference files to be 11.5x version from 10.5x version. I removed all 10.5x dlls and then added 11.5x dlls, but I see 10.5x dlls are added instead. does anybody how to fix this problem? Please help. Thanks,

• Datagrid row height doesnot shrink back

  Hi, I have a data grid, in each row I have one cell which needs to have a very lengthy text which is about 1000 characters long. So I decided to put the text in the expander control keeping the cell width fixed, when the user wants to read the text, he clicks on the expander to open and reads it. The row height automatically grows when the expander is expanded but when the expander is collapsed back, the row height doesnt shirk. • deep zoom is not displayed

  I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 + Windows Vista Enterprise x86. I have used Silverlight Deep Zoom composer tool to export my composed images into Siverlight type. Everything is previewed fine after export successful message (I select browse from browser). But when I click the Test.html in the exported project to show Deep Zoom effects from browser, nothing is displayed. Here is my screen snapshot. Any ideas what is wrong? http://i41.tinypic.com/2dac561.jpg EDIT 1: to my surprise, there is no clientbin folder in my exported project. I have made two screen snapshots for, my project folder generated by Deep Zoom Composer under Exported Data folder; the content of GeneratedImages folder under my project folder.   Hello i am new on Silverlight, i tring to make a base for a button and that button will change the central image accoring to the situation, however some parts will continue the same, for this reason i make a UserControl and i call that user Control from the code and add to the grid that i need. But this Usercontrol that i am trying to add have a style pre-defined and i don´t geted how i change de image background.
