  • Is it possible to write a program that pipes the sound from one computer through the sound card of another?

    I have a case where I need to use one computer's sound card to play sound but I want the sound to be generated at another computer that's on the same network as the other. Ideally the program that does this would only run on the computer that was generating the sound, though I'm fairly certain that isn't possible based on the research I have been doing. What ever I do with it though the solution would need to be such that the computer actually playing the sound would be secure. Thanks for any input.

  • No sound in Ubuntu except at log in

    I installed Ubuntu 12.04 a month ago and am using it till now. I failed to notice that all this time there was no sound at all while running Ubuntu, even while playing a game in Wine. The weird thing is that only the startup sound comes when I log in (Indian/African drum tone), then comes the utter silence. I tested both Digital Output (S/PDIF) and the speakers in the sound settings but can hear nothing. Any help?

  • How can I prevent an app from leaving full screen mode when I move the cursor to another display?

    When I have dual displays set up, or when I am using Synergy to use one keyboard and mouse across two computers/screens, I can't seem to retain F11 full screen mode for the top application when I mouse out of that screen. This applies to both the application and also to any Flash video that may be playing in full screen mode. Is there any way to retain full screen mode and mouse out of the display?

    I am using ubuntu 10.04 LTS in my lenovo laptop and have a android ICS device. I want to create a wifi-hotspot in ubuntu, which I can later use for connecting android device. I need this setup for capturing the packets from android device and later analysing them using wireshark in my ubuntu.   • Macbook (non-pro, late 2010) Power Management Issues relating to Nvidia-Current drivers

    I have tried many potential solutions but to no avail! (this is going to be a long post) Essentially, when I first install ubuntu (I have tested 10.11-12.04 beta) I can change the brightness of the macbook backlight. One of the first things I usually do once my machine finishes installing is enter "sudo apt-get install nvidia-current" into the terminal to get my Nvidia graphics card set up. Before I install nvidia-current power management works flawlessly. After installing nvidia-current my graphics driver works mostly properly (more on that later). When I press F1 or F2 notify osd pops up and shows icon for the backlight along with a meter which changes according to how much I press F1 or F2, but the backlight does not change brightness at all. Two supplementary facts: when I am running off of battery power the backlight does not dim ever, also changing the backlight brightness through the terminal does not work (it recognizes the command but changes nothing).     I'm running Ubuntu and I have an Intel HD graphic card, I installed Counter Strike 1.6 and I cannot launch wide screen display mode, parts from the both side of my screen are black. Also when I am playing some clips on YouTube, both sides on the screen are black and I don't see the whole picture.   • "sr0" I/O read boot error in Xubuntu 12.10

    Just recently upgraded Xubuntu 12.10 after having installed 12.04 originally. Ever since that happened, any time I inserted a disk into my DVD/CD reader/writer I would end up getting a number of error messages from my DVD player/Audio player softer, typically with any of them either crashing or returning a GStreamer backend error. I then went into VLC and tried to run the stuff through there, but for some reason it won't read with the default devices. Instead I have to manually input sr0 into each of the /dev/ references and it will play just fine, until I exit out of the program, at which point I have to re-input everything. I have already installed all the media dependencies, both open source and restricted, through the software center. I just found this strange, as out of the box 12.04 there wasn't any problem what so ever. At this point, it could be that all my audio CD's are not in a format that is familiar with the OS (I've read in some places that EXTF4 has issues with this) but I don't see how that could be a problem when the above error messages even tested to see if it is EXT3 as well? I've tried my best to troubleshoot this up till now using existing topics, but it seems that this is a regular problem with a multitude of varying factors that incorporate into it, including but not limited to read/write problems with the format of the CD and right protection. Is there something integral that I am missing?

For example, let's say I would like to solve a problem using a graph pathfinding algorithm. How would one typically go about representing that graph in a functional programming language (primarily interested in pure functional style that can be applied to LISP)? Would I just forget about graphs altogether and solve the problem some other way?

  • Making entire scene fade to grayscale

    When the player loses all of their lives, I want the entire game screen to go grayscale, but not stop updating immediately. I'd also prefer it fade to grayscale instead of suddenly lose all color. Everything I've found so far is either about taking a screenshot and making it grayscale, or making a specific texture grayscale. Is there a way to change the entire playing field and all objects within to grayscale without iterating through everything?
