  • focus a NSTextField

    - by Jeena
I have a NSTextField and I want to set its content if I klick on a button and than set the cursor on this textfield at the end of the text so if someone klicks the button he could just begin to type. Until now I use [NSTextField selectText] it selects this textfield but it selects the whole text so if someone just begins to type he'd lose all the text which alread is in the textfield.

  • Execute something on application startup?

    - by Nick Brooks
I have a class in my application which handles all the controls and all the functions and variables are stored in it. How can I add a function which handles the application startup to it? So basically I need to handle 'applicationDidFinishLaunching' in my class as well as in the application delegate. How do I do that?

  • How to get cell text based on indexPath?

    - by Sheehan Alam
I have a UITabBarController with more than 5 UITabBarItems so the moreNavigationController is available. In my UITabBarController Delegate I do the following: - (void)tabBarController:(UITabBarController *)tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController { //do some stuff //... UITableView *moreView = (UITableView *)self.tabBarController.moreNavigationController.topViewController.view; moreView.delegate = self; } I want to implement a UITableViewDelegate so I can capture the row that was selected, set a custom view property and then push the view controller: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tblView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { //how can I get the text of the cell here? } I need to get the text of a cell when the user taps on a row. How can I accomplish this?

  • Reach the end of the tableview without using 'numberOfRowsInSection' delegate method iphone sdk

    - by neha
Hi all, I want to add a view after the last cell of tableview. I need to define the frame for it. If I want to add something before the first cell, then I can set the frame as refreshHeaderView = [[EGORefreshTableHeaderView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f - self.view.bounds.size.height,320.0f, self.view.bounds.size.height)]; But how to find the y coordinate of the frame of view to be set after the last cell. Thanx in advance.

  • Object leak using "retain"

    - by Abhinav
I have a property defined with retain attribute which I am synthesizing: @property (nonatomic, retain) UISwitch *mySwitch; And inside my loadView I am doing this: self.mySwitch = [[UISwitch alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 40, 20)]; And finally inside my dealloc I am doing this: self.mySwitch = nil; Am I leaking this object (mySwitch) as I have used one alloc? Should I autorelease it while assigning it frame? Please suggest.

  • When an NSWindow object has a delegate that is a NSWindow subclass, who is responsible to act on received events?

    - by spade78
So I'm building a program that features the use of the IKImageBrowserView component as a subview in an NSWindow. As a side note, I have a controller object called ImageBrowserController which subclasses NSWindow and is set as the delegate of the NSWindow object of my app. I have sent IKImageBrowserView the message setCanControlQuickLookPanel:YES to enable it to automatically use the QuickLook functionality to preview image files when the IKImageBrowserView is a first responder to receive key events. Then it took me a while to figure out how to make the IKImageBrowserView a first responder which I finally got working by overriding acceptsFirstResponder inside my ImageBrowserController. Now I understand that as the delegate to the NSWindow, ImageBrowserController has a place in the responder chain after the event gets triggered on NSWindow. And I understand that as a subview of NSWindow, IKImageBrowserView is in line to be passed events for event handling. What I don't get is where the connection is between the ImageBrowserController being a first responder and the event somehow making it to the IKImageBrowserView. I didn't set NSWindow or IKImageBrowserView as first responders explicitly. So why isn't it necessary for me to implement event handling inside my ImageBrowserController? EDIT: So after reading the accepted answer and going back to my code I tried removing the acceptsFirstResponder override in my ImageBrowserController and the QuickLook functionality still triggered just like the accepted answer said it would. Commenting out the setCanControlQuickLookPanel:YES made the app beep at me when I tried to invoke QuickLook functionality via the spacebar. I'm getting the feeling that my troubles were caused by user error of XCode in hitting the RUN button instead of the BUILD button after making changes to my code (sigh).

  • Get tableView:heightForRowAtIndexPath: to happen after tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:?

    - by Triz
I've got some UITableViewCells that need to change their height depending on the length of the strings inside. I'm calculating the necessary height inside tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:, and then storing it in a variable (self.specialRowHeight). Then I've got: - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { if (indexPath.section == SPECIAL_SECTION) { return self.specialRowHeight; } else { return 44; } } Except that seems to be getting called before the tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath: bit, so it's always zero. Is there a way around this, or perhaps a different way to do it? Thanks!

  • iPhone Using a Modal View from a TabBar View

    - by mbarron
Using a Modal View from a TabBar View I always get the following error: Error from Debugger: Previous Frame identical to this frame (gdb could not unwind past this frame) I have an App using a TabBar. From one of the TabViews I need to display a View modally. I try: if(self.gmailController == nil) { self.gmailController = [[GMailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"GMailView" bundle:nil]; } [[self.navigationController] presentModalViewController:gmailController animated:YES]; //////// And I have tried: [self.parentViewController presentModalViewController:gmailController animated:YES]; and [self.tabBarController presentModalViewController:gmailController animated:YES]; and [self presentModalViewController:gmailController animated:YES]; Thanks for reading! Any comments welcome. Mark

  • NSThread and memory management

    - by misfit153
Imagine I create and execute an NSThread object using detachNewThreadSelector:toTarget:withObject:. The method executed by the thread might look like this: - (void)search { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; // perform a lengthy search here. [pool release]; } I then might use the cancel method to kill the thread while it's running, before the pool gets released. What happens to the NSAutoreleasePool object? I suppose it will leak, won't it?

  • iPhone app launch times and Core Data migration

    - by sehugg
I have a Core Data application which I plan to update with a new schema. The lightweight migration seems to work, but it takes time proportional to the amount of data in the database. This occurs in the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions phase of the app. I want to avoid <app> failed to launch in time problems, so I assume I cannot keep the migration in the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method. I assume the best method would involve performing the migration in a background thread. I assume also that I'd need to defer loading of the main ViewController until the loading completes to avoid using the managedObjectContext until initialization completes. Does this make sense, and is there example code (maybe in Apple sample projects) of this sort of initialization?

  • NSTableView don't display data

    - by Tomas Svoboda
HI, I have data in NSMutableArray and I want to display it in NSTableView, but only the number of cols has changed. This use of NSTableView is based on tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5teN5pMf-rs FinalImageBrowser is IBOutlet to NSTableView @implementation AppController NSMutableArray *listData; - (void)awakeFromNib { [FinalImageBrowser setDataSource:self]; } - (IBAction)StartReconstruction:(id)sender { NSMutableArray *ArrayOfFinals = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; //Array of list with final images NSString *FinalPicture; NSString *PicNum; int FromLine = [TextFieldFrom intValue]; //read number of start line int ToLine = [TextFieldTo intValue]; //read number of finish line int RecLine; for (RecLine = FromLine; RecLine < ToLine; RecLine++) //reconstruct from line to line { Start(RecLine); //start reconstruction //Create path of final image FinalPicture = @"FIN/final"; PicNum = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%d", RecLine]; FinalPicture = [FinalPicture stringByAppendingString:PicNum]; FinalPicture = [FinalPicture stringByAppendingString:@".bmp"]; [ArrayOfFinals addObject:FinalPicture]; // add path to array } listData = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [listData autorelease]; [listData addObjectsFromArray:ArrayOfFinals]; [FinalImageBrowser reloadData]; NSBeep(); //make some noise NSImage *fin = [[NSImage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:FinalPicture]; [FinalImage setImage:fin]; } - (int)numberOfRowsInTableView:(NSTableView *)tv { return [listData count]; } - (id)tableView:(NSTableView *)tv objectValueFromTableColumn:(NSTableColumn *)tableColumn row:(int)row { return (NSString *)[listData objectAtIndex:row]; } @end when the StartReconstruction end the number of cols have changed right, but they're empty. When I debug app, items in listData is rigth. Thanks

  • Custom UITableView headerView disappears after memory warning

    - by psychotik
I have a UITableViewController. I create a custom headerView for it's tableView in the loadView method like so: (void)loadView { [super loadView]; UIView* containerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height * 2 )]; containerView.tag = 'cont'; containerView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleLeftMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleRightMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleTopMargin; UIButton* button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; button.frame = CGRectMake(padding, height, width, height); ... //configure UIButton and events UIImageView* imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"image.png"] highlightedImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"highlight.png"]]; imageView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height ); ... //configure UIImageView [containerView addSubview:button]; [containerView addSubview:imageView]; self.tableView.tableHeaderView = containerView; [imageView release]; [containerView release]; } None of the other methods (viewDidLoad/Unload, etc) are overloaded. This controller is hosted in a tab. When I switch to another tab and simulate a memory warning, and then come back to this tab, my UITableView is missing my custon header. All the rows/section are visible as I would expect. Putting a BP in the loadView code above, I see it being invoked when I switch back to the tab after the memory warning, and yet I can't actually see the header. Any ideas about what I'm missing here? EDIT: This happens on the device and the simulator. On the device, I just let a memory warning occur by opening a bunch of different apps while mine is in the background.

  • Black Corners On Grouped UITableViewCells Only After Navigation Pops

    - by coneybeare
I am not graphics expert but I somehow managed to make some good looking custom grouped UITableViewCells by setting the background view to a backgroundView with some CG code. In all SDK's up to 3.1.3 (maybe 3.2... I haven't tested on the iPad) this was working great, but I think a more recent SDK has introduced a change in the way graphics are cached offscreen. Upon first render, everything is great: The drawing is fine and the corners are transparent. If I push a couple of view controllers on the navigation stack and come back, there are now black corners that appear in the views: BEFORE && AFTER I have tons of code, most of which is written up here. I have tried tweaking to the best of my ability, looking at the docs for applicable changes, but after at least 8 hours in I still cannot find what might cause this. I have tried setting every view I can think of to be backgroundColor=clearColor and opaque=NO What else am I missing? Any debugging tips? UPDATE: I have some debug code in viewDidAppear that prints the backgroundColor and class description of all the subviews. - (void)debugView:(UIView *)view { DebugLog(@"%@ - %@", view.backgroundColor, [[view class] description]); for (UIView* child in view.subviews) { [self debugView:child]; } } - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewDidAppear:animated]; [DownloadController.networkQueue setSuspended:NO]; for (TTTableViewCell *cell in [self.tableView visibleCells]) { [cell debugView:cell]; } } With this code, I inspect the backgroundColor settings of the cell views on first load, when it is fine, and then again after coming back. There are some differences, but all the colors are still set to be clear. This leads me to believe the issue is underneath the UITableViewCell. UPDATE 2: I have created a simple sample application to highlight the problem here

  • How can I draw a shadow beyond a UIView's bounds?

    - by Christian
I'm using the method described at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/805872/how-do-i-draw-a-shadow-under-a-uiview to draw shadow behind a view's content. The shadow is clipped to the view's bounds, although I disabled "Clip Subviews" in Interface Builder for the view. Is it possible to draw a shadow around a view and not only in a view? I don't want to draw the shadow inside the view because the view would receive touch events for the shadow area, which really belongs to the background.

  • How can I build an app with multiple types of controllers?

    - by Sheehan Alam
How can I accomplish the following: When my app loads a UIView will show 4 buttons Clicking on a button will load a UITabBarController (not a UIView with a UITabBar) that can display multiple views. This seems challenging to me, because in order for me to use the UITabBarController I need to add this to the window's subview in my appDelegate. By doing so, my app automatically will load with the UITabbarController in the root view.

  • Behavior difference between UIView.subviews and [NSView subviews]

    - by zpasternack
I have a piece of code in an iPhone app, which removes all subviews from a UIView subclass. It looks like this: NSArray* subViews = self.subviews; for( UIView *aView in subViews ) { [aView removeFromSuperview]; } This works fine. In fact, I never really gave it much thought until I tried nearly the same thing in a Mac OS X app (from an NSView subclass): NSArray* subViews = [self subviews]; for( NSView *aView in subViews ) { [aView removeFromSuperview]; } That totally doesn’t work. Specifically, at runtime, I get this: *** Collection <NSCFArray: 0x1005208a0> was mutated while being enumerated. I ended up doing it like so: NSArray* subViews = [[self subviews] copy]; for( NSView *aView in subViews ) { [aView removeFromSuperview]; } [subViews release]; That's fine. What’s bugging me, though, is why does it work on the iPhone? subviews is a copy property: @property(nonatomic,readonly,copy) NSArray *subviews; My first thought was, maybe @synthesize’d getters return a copy when the copy attribute is specified. The doc is clear on the semantics of copy for setters, but doesn’t appear to say either way for getters (or at least, it’s not apparent to me). And actually, doing a few tests of my own, this clearly does not seem to be the case. Which is good, I think returning a copy would be problematic, for a few reasons. So the question is: how does the above code work on the iPhone? NSView is clearly returning a pointer to the actual array of subviews, and perhaps UIView isn’t. Perhaps it’s simply an implementation detail of UIView, and I shouldn’t get worked up about it. Can anyone offer any insight?
