  I can't figure out how to fetch n random rows from a criteria instance: Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(Table.class); criteria.add(Restrictions.eq('fieldVariable', anyValue)); ... Then what? I can't find any doc with Criteria API Does it mean I should use HQL instead? Thanx! EDIT: I get the number of rows by: int max = criteria.setProjecxtion(Projections.rowCount()).uniqueResult(); How do I fetch n random rows with indexes between 0 and max? Thx again!

• Can I learn the iPhone SDK and complete an app by September?

  Hi everyone, I'm wondering if it's realistically possible to learn the iPhone SDK and complete an app by the end of this summer. The app shouldn't be too difficult, it would just interact with my site's API and essentially just fetch, create, and edit resources. I already have a little experience with the SDK (and I'm comfortable with Objective-C), so I'm not completely new to it. Although here I things I don't know how to do and what I'd need to learn: Log in to my site using basic http authentication and store the user's username/password for all future requests Implement a toolbar at the bottom to navigate between different views Fetch and parse xml into list items Do POST/PUT requests to create/edit a resource on my server Are there any good resources available to learn how to do those tasks above? • How do you make the script wait for the status of an Ajax get request before continuing?

  Basically what I'm doing is checking for the existence of an object, if it's not found, the script will try to load the source file using getScript. I only want to check this once though then return true or false to the function that calls fetch() fetch:function(obj){ ... isReady = false; $.getScript(obj.srcFile,function(){ isReady=true; warn("was able to load object "+key); }); return isReady; } but return kicks in before the script loads =/ later the script is loaded but the function returned false. This is the beauty of asynchronous I suppose... What's the best way to handle this... Maybe I could check again at some other point if the object exists? Or maybe there's a better way to do this where I dont have to potentially lock the browser?

  I am trying to build a project on Linux via Makefile. I keep getting cannot find <sys/time.h> error. I asked around, and I was told that my project doesn't have access to library folders. Therefore, I am trying to solve this problem by using the time library locally inside my project's folder. I am very new to Linux. So, please forgive my question if it sounds naive. • Dynamically changing databases in SQL Server 2000

  At work we have a number of databases that we need to do the same operations on. I would like to write 1 SP that would loop over operations and set the database at the beginning of the loop (example to follow). I've tried sp_executesql('USE ' + @db_id) but that only sets the DB for the scope of that stored procedure. I don't really want to loop with hard coded database names because we need to do similar things in many different places and it's tough to remember where things need to change if we add another DB.   I'm developing a class library. Need some data from internet and this cannot be done with HttpWebRequest in my case so I wanna use WebBrowser component. WebBrowser is used for opening a single page and fetch some data from it, so WebBrowser life-time is very short. Running thread is MTA and no message pump or STA thread is available by default (class library is used by an ASP.NET application). How to create a WebBrowser object, run it with a STA thread, fetch data from a web page and finally dispose it with the least performance impact on the application ? • Using popen() to invoke a shell command?

  When running the following code through xcode I get inconsistent behavior. Sometimes it prints the git version correctly, other times it doesn't print anything. The return code from the shell command is always 0 though. Any ideas on why this might be?   I am trying to build an app which will compare the two images and gives the Matching Percentage. I am taking two Images from The camera(Making use of UIImagePickerController) and saving it to the document directory.Then i fetch these images in a different view controller to get the face part, using CIDetector API and CIfacefeature API. The problem is It is not detecting the face at all through i am able to fetch the images properly. And if i store the same image in the main bundle it detects. I dnt know where the problem is. I have tried everything. May Be the problem is with the UIImage or may be the format in which image is getting saved in document directory or with the camera. Please help. I will be grateful to you.   I try EGit revert for several days, It's very confuse that when I revert the file following the user guide, and I still got the file dirty symbol in the related file. http://wiki.eclipse.org/EGit/User_Guide#Reverting_Changes I choose 'Replace with' - 'File in Git Index', it works, the content has been revert, but the symbol stays the same, sometimes, the symbol will disappear after a while, but sometimes, it didn't disappear. I'm using eclipse on windows, I'm not sure it's about the '\r\n' character. But I use 'Compare with ' - 'File in Git Index', two files look the same. Hope someone can tell me why, I think it can be a bug? Thank you in advance.

  I'm trying to write a SQL Query for DB2 Version 8 which retrieves the most recent order of a specific part for a list of users. The query receives a parameter which contains a list of customerId numbers and the partId number. For example, Order Table OrderID PartID CustomerID OrderTime I initially wanted to try: Select * from Order where OrderId = ( Select orderId from Order where partId = #requestedPartId# and customerId = #customerId# Order by orderTime desc fetch first 1 rows only ); The problem with the above query is that it only works for a single user and my query needs to include multiple users. Does anyone have a suggestion about how I could expand the above query to work for multiple users? If I remove my "fetch first 1 rows only," then it will return all rows instead of the most recent. I also tried using Max(OrderTime), but I couldn't find a way to return the OrderId from the sub-select. Thanks! Note: DB2 Version 8 does not support the SQL "TOP" function.

  Hey, I've been writing a networking server for a while now in C++ and have come to the stage to start looking for a way to properly and easily handle all packets. I am so far that I can figure out what kind of packet it is, but now I need to figure out how to get the needed data to the handler functions. I had the following in mind: Have a map of function pointers with the opcode as key and the function pointer as value Have all these functions have 2 arguments, packet and ObjectAccessor ObjectAccessor class contains various functions to fetch various items such as users and alike Perhaps pass the user's guid too so we can fetch it from the objectaccessor I'd like to know the various implementations others have come up with, so please comment on this idea and reply with your own implementations.   I'm trying to use a third party application located here: git://github.com/Star2Billing/django-audiofield.git I'm using Aptana Studio as my IDE. I created my project and then I clicked on the project and imported the app from the github location. It looked like it imported. I wanted to check that it imported properly before beginning any real coding so I performed manage.py validate. I got a message that stated: "No module named audiofield". I added the app to my Installed Apps settings and followed the installation instructions. I'm not sure if I'm importing it incorrectly. Also, I'm using virtualenv in Aptana. I'm not sure if this may have added to the problem. Please help.

  I need to periodically update a local cache with new additions to some DB table. The table rows contain an auto-increment sequential number (SN) field. The cache keeps this number too, so basically I just need to fetch all rows with SN larger than the highest I already have. SELECT * FROM table where SN > <max_cached_SN> However, the majority of the attempts will bring no data (I just need to make sure that I have an absolutely up-to-date local copy). So I wander if this will be more efficient: count = SELECT count(*) from table; if (count > <cache_size>) // fetch new rows as above I suppose that selecting by an indexed numeric field is quite efficient, so I wander whether using count has benefit. On the other hand, this test/update will be done quite frequently and by many clients, so there is a motivation to optimize it.

Hibernate generates for Course: @OneToMany(fetch = FetchType.LAZY, mappedBy = "course", cascade = CascadeType.ALL) public Set getSubCourses() { return this.subCourses; } for Subcourse it generates @ManyToOne(fetch = FetchType.LAZY) @JoinColumn(name = "course_id", nullable = false) public Course getCourse() { return this.course; } Now the problem is that cascading does not work as expected. I want to create a collection of SubCourse objects (Set), fill it and then bind it to setSubCourses() of Course object. Though, having ManyToOne thing in a Subcourses table, I need to manually setCourse() before adding to collection on each object. If I do not do so, an exception is raised. What can you recommend me?
