  • Integration Patterns with Azure Service Bus Relay, Part 3: Anonymous partial-trust consumer

    - by Elton Stoneman
This is the third in the IPASBR series, see also: Integration Patterns with Azure Service Bus Relay, Part 1: Exposing the on-premise service Integration Patterns with Azure Service Bus Relay, Part 2: Anonymous full-trust .NET consumer As the patterns get further from the simple .NET full-trust consumer, all that changes is the communication protocol and the authentication mechanism. In Part 3 the scenario is that we still have a secure .NET environment consuming our service, so we can store shared keys securely, but the runtime environment is locked down so we can't use Microsoft.ServiceBus to get the nice WCF relay bindings. To support this we will expose a RESTful endpoint through the Azure Service Bus, and require the consumer to send a security token with each HTTP service request. Pattern applicability This is a good fit for scenarios where: the runtime environment is secure enough to keep shared secrets the consumer can execute custom code, including building HTTP requests with custom headers the consumer cannot use the Azure SDK assemblies the service may need to know who is consuming it the service does not need to know who the end-user is Note there isn't actually a .NET requirement here. By exposing the service in a REST endpoint, anything that can talk HTTP can be a consumer. We'll authenticate through ACS which also gives us REST endpoints, so the service is still accessed securely. Our real-world example would be a hosted cloud app, where we we have enough room in the app's customisation to keep the shared secret somewhere safe and to hook in some HTTP calls. We will be flowing an identity through to the on-premise service now, but it will be the service identity given to the consuming app - the end user's identity isn't flown through yet. In this post, we’ll consume the service from Part 1 in ASP.NET using the WebHttpRelayBinding. The code for Part 3 (+ Part 1) is on GitHub here: IPASBR Part 3. Authenticating and authorizing with ACS We'll follow the previous examples and add a new service identity for the namespace in ACS, so we can separate permissions for different consumers (see walkthrough in Part 1). I've named the identity partialTrustConsumer. We’ll be authenticating against ACS with an explicit HTTP call, so we need a password credential rather than a symmetric key – for a nice secure option, generate a symmetric key, copy to the clipboard, then change type to password and paste in the key: We then need to do the same as in Part 2 , add a rule to map the incoming identity claim to an outgoing authorization claim that allows the identity to send messages to Service Bus: Issuer: Access Control Service Input claim type: http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims/nameidentifier Input claim value: partialTrustConsumer Output claim type: net.windows.servicebus.action Output claim value: Send As with Part 2, this sets up a service identity which can send messages into Service Bus, but cannot register itself as a listener, or manage the namespace. RESTfully exposing the on-premise service through Azure Service Bus Relay The part 3 sample code is ready to go, just put your Azure details into Solution Items\AzureConnectionDetails.xml and “Run Custom Tool” on the .tt files.  But to do it yourself is very simple. We already have a WebGet attribute in the service for locally making REST calls, so we are just going to add a new endpoint which uses the WebHttpRelayBinding to relay that service through Azure. It's as easy as adding this endpoint to Web.config for the service:         <endpoint address="https://sixeyed-ipasbr.servicebus.windows.net/rest"                   binding="webHttpRelayBinding"                    contract="Sixeyed.Ipasbr.Services.IFormatService"                   behaviorConfiguration="SharedSecret">         </endpoint> - and adding the webHttp attribute in your endpoint behavior:           <behavior name="SharedSecret">             <webHttp/>             <transportClientEndpointBehavior credentialType="SharedSecret">               <clientCredentials>                 <sharedSecret issuerName="serviceProvider"                               issuerSecret="gl0xaVmlebKKJUAnpripKhr8YnLf9Neaf6LR53N8uGs="/>               </clientCredentials>             </transportClientEndpointBehavior>           </behavior> Where's my WSDL? The metadata story for REST is a bit less automated. In our local webHttp endpoint we've enabled WCF's built-in help, so if you navigate to: http://localhost/Sixeyed.Ipasbr.Services/FormatService.svc/rest/help - you'll see the uri format for making a GET request to the service. The format is the same over Azure, so this is where you'll be connecting: https://[your-namespace].servicebus.windows.net/rest/reverse?string=abc123 Build the service with the new endpoint, open that in a browser and you'll get an XML version of an HTTP status code - a 401 with an error message stating that you haven’t provided an authorization header: <?xml version="1.0"?><Error><Code>401</Code><Detail>MissingToken: The request contains no authorization header..TrackingId:4cb53408-646b-4163-87b9-bc2b20cdfb75_5,TimeStamp:10/3/2012 8:34:07 PM</Detail></Error> By default, the setup of your Service Bus endpoint as a relying party in ACS expects a Simple Web Token to be presented with each service request, and in the browser we're not passing one, so we can't access the service. Note that this request doesn't get anywhere near your on-premise service, Service Bus only relays requests once they've got the necessary approval from ACS. Why didn't the consumer need to get ACS authorization in Part 2? It did, but it was all done behind the scenes in the NetTcpRelayBinding. By specifying our Shared Secret credentials in the consumer, the service call is preceded by a check on ACS to see that the identity provided is a) valid, and b) allowed access to our Service Bus endpoint. By making manual HTTP requests, we need to take care of that ACS check ourselves now. We do that with a simple WebClient call to the ACS endpoint of our service; passing the shared secret credentials, we will get back an SWT: var values = new System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection(); values.Add("wrap_name", "partialTrustConsumer"); //service identity name values.Add("wrap_password", "suCei7AzdXY9toVH+S47C4TVyXO/UUFzu0zZiSCp64Y="); //service identity password values.Add("wrap_scope", "http://sixeyed-ipasbr.servicebus.windows.net/"); //this is the realm of the RP in ACS var acsClient = new WebClient(); var responseBytes = acsClient.UploadValues("https://sixeyed-ipasbr-sb.accesscontrol.windows.net/WRAPv0.9/", "POST", values); rawToken = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(responseBytes); With a little manipulation, we then attach the SWT to subsequent REST calls in the authorization header; the token contains the Send claim returned from ACS, so we will be authorized to send messages into Service Bus. Running the sample Navigate to http://localhost:2028/Sixeyed.Ipasbr.WebHttpClient/Default.cshtml, enter a string and hit Go! - your string will be reversed by your on-premise service, routed through Azure: Using shared secret client credentials in this way means ACS is the identity provider for your service, and the claim which allows Send access to Service Bus is consumed by Service Bus. None of the authentication details make it through to your service, so your service is not aware who the consumer is (MSDN calls this "anonymous authentication").

  • Simplifying Human Capital Management with Mobile Applications

    - by HCM-Oracle
By Aaron Green If you're starting to think 'mobility' is a recurring theme in your reading, you'd be right. For those who haven't started to build organisational capabilities to leverage it, it's fair to say you're late to the party. The good news: better late than never. Research firm eMarketer says the worldwide smartphone audience will total 1.75 billion this year, while communications technology and services provider Ericsson suggests smartphones will triple to 5.6 billion globally by 2019. It should be no surprise, smart phone adoption is reaching the farthest corners of the globe; the subsequent impact of enterprise applications enabled by these devices is driving business performance improvement and will continue to do so. Companies using advanced workforce analytics can add significantly to the bottom line, while impacting customer satisfaction, quality and productivity. It's a statement that makes most business leaders sit forward in their chairs. Achieving these three standards is like sipping The Golden Elixir for the business world. No-one would argue their importance. So what are 'advanced workforce analytics?' Simply, they're unprecedented access to workforce trends and performance markers. Many are made possible by a mobile world and the enterprise applications that come with it on smart devices. Some refer to it as 'the consumerisation of IT'. As this phenomenon has matured and become more widely appreciated it has impacted the spectrum of functional units within an enterprise differently, but powerfully. Whether it's sales, HR, marketing, IT, or operations, all have benefited from a more mobile approach. It has been the catalyst for improvement in, and management of, the employee experience. The net result of which is happier customers. The obvious benefits but the lesser realised impact Most people understand that mobility allows for greater efficiency and productivity, collaboration and flexibility, but how that translates into business outcomes within the various functional groups is lesser known. In actuality mobility has helped galvanise partnerships between cross-functional groups within the enterprise. Where in some quarters it was once feared mobility could fragment a workforce, its rallying cry of support is coming from what you might describe as an unlikely source - HR. As the bedrock of an enterprise, it is conceivable HR might contemplate the possible negative impact of a mobile workforce that no-longer sits in an office, at the same desks every day. After all, who would know what they were doing or saying? How would they collaborate? It's reasonable to see why HR might have a legitimate claim to try and retain as much 'perceived control' as possible. The reality however is mobility has emancipated human capital and its management. Mobility and enterprise applications are expediting decision making. Google calls it Zero Moment of Truth, or ZMOT. It enables smoother operation and can contribute to faster growth. From a collaborative perspective, with the growing use of enterprise social media, which in many cases is being driven by HR, workforce planning and the tangible impact of change is much easier to map. This in turn provides a platform from which individuals and teams can thrive. With more agility and ability to anticipate, staff satisfaction and retention is higher, and real time feedback constant. The management team can save time, energy and costs with more accurate data, which is then intelligently applied across the workforce to truly engage with staff, customers and partners. From a human capital management (HCM) perspective, mobility can help you close the loop on true talent management. It can enhance what managers can offer and what employees can provide in return. It can create nested relationships and powerful partnerships. IT and HR - partners and stewards of mobility One effect of enterprise mobility is an evolution in the nature of the relationship between HR and IT from one of service provision to partnership. The reason for the dynamic shift is largely due to the 'bring your own device' (BYOD) movement, which is transitioning to a 'bring your own application' (BYOA) scenario. As enterprise technology has in some ways reverse-engineered its solutions to help manage this situation, the partnership between IT (the functional owner) and HR (the strategic enabler) is deeply entrenched. And it has to be. The CIO and the HR leader are faced with compliance and regulatory issues and concerns around information security and personal privacy on a daily basis, complicated by global reach and varied domestic legislation. There are tens of thousands of new mobile apps entering the market each month and, unlike many consumer applications which get downloaded but are often never opened again after initial perusal, enterprise applications are being relied upon by functional groups, not least by HR to enhance people management. It requires a systematic approach across all applications in use within the enterprise in order to ensure they're used to best effect. No turning back, and no desire to With real time analytics on performance and the ability for immediate feedback, there is no turning back for managers. In my experience with Oracle, our customers' operational efficiency is at record levels. It's clear as a result of the combination of individual KPIs and organisational goals, CIOs have been able to give HR leaders the ability to build predictive models that feed into an enterprise organisations' evolving strategy. It also helps them ensure regulatory compliance much more easily. Once an arduous task, with mobile enabled automation and quality data, compliance is simpler. Their world has changed for the better. For the CIO, mobility also assists them to optimise performance. While it doesn't come without challenges, mobile-enabled applications and the native experience users have with them means employees don't need high-level technical expertise to train users. It reduces the training and engagement required from the IT team so they can focus on other things that deliver value to the bottom line; all the while lowering the cost of assets and related maintenance work by simplifying processes. Rewards of a mobile enterprise outweigh risks With mobile tools allowing us to increasingly integrate our personal and professional lives, terms like "office hours" are becoming irrelevant, so work/life balance is a cultural must. Enterprises are expected to offer tools that enable workers to access information from anywhere, at any time, from any device. Employees want simplicity and convenience but it doesn't stop at private enterprise. This is a societal shift. Governments, which traditionally have been known to be slower to adopt newer technology, are also offering support for local businesses to go mobile. Several state government websites have advice on how to create mobile apps and more. And as recently as last week the Victorian Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips unveiled his State government's ICT roadmap for the next two years, which details an increased use of the public cloud, as well as mobile communications, and improved access to online data-sets. Tech giants are investing significantly in solutions designed to simplify mobile deployment and enablement. The mobility trend is creating a wave of change in the industry and driving transformation in the enterprise. If you're not on that wave, the business risk continues to rise as your competitiveness drops. • Feedback + Bad output

    - by user1770094
    So I've got an assignment I think I'm more or less done with, but there is something which is messing up the output badly somewhere down the line, or even the calculation, and I don't see where the problem is. The assignment is to make a game in which a certain ammount of players run up through a tunnel towards a spot,where they will stop and spin around it,and then their dizziness is supposed to make them randomly either progress towards goal or regress back towards start.And each time they get another spot closer to goal,they get another "marking",and it goes on like this until one of them reaches goal. The program includes three files: one main.cpp,one header file and another cpp file. The header file: #ifndef COMPETITOR_H #define COMPETITOR_H #include <string> using namespace std; class Competitor { public: void setName(); string getName(); void spin(); void move(); int checkScore(); void printResult(); private: string name; int direction; int markedSpots; }; #endif // COMPETITOR_H The second cpp file: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> #include <ctime> #include "Competitor.h" using namespace std; void Competitor::setName() { cin>>name; } string Competitor::getName() { return name; } void Competitor::spin() { srand(time(NULL)); direction = rand()%1+0; } void Competitor::move() { if(direction == 1) { markedSpots++; } else if(direction == 0 && markedSpots != 0) { markedSpots--; } } int Competitor::checkScore() { return markedSpots; } void Competitor::printResult() { if(direction == 1) { cout<<" is heading towards goal and has currently "<<markedSpots<<" markings."; } else if(direction == 0) { cout<<"\n"<<getName()<<" is heading towards start and has currently "<<markedSpots<<" markings."; } } The main cpp file: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> #include <ctime> #include "Competitor.h" using namespace std; void inputAndSetNames(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); void makeTwist(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); void makeMove(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); void showAll(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps); int winner(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps, int nrOfTwistPlaces); int main() { int nrOfTwistPlaces; int nrOfComps; int noWinner = -1; int laps = 0; cout<<"How many spinning places should there be? "; cin>>nrOfTwistPlaces; cout<<"How many competitors should there be? "; cin>>nrOfComps; Competitor * comps = new Competitor[nrOfComps]; inputAndSetNames(comps, nrOfComps); do { laps++; cout<<"\nSpin "<<laps<<":"; makeTwist(comps, nrOfComps); makeMove(comps, nrOfComps); showAll(comps, nrOfComps); }while(noWinner == -1); delete [] comps; return 0; } void inputAndSetNames(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { cout<<"Type in the names of the "<<nrOfComps<<" competitors:\n"; for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].setName(); } cout<<"\n"; } void makeTwist(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].spin(); } } void makeMove(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].move(); } } void showAll(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps) { for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { comps[i].printResult(); } cout<<"\n\n"; system("pause"); } int winner(Competitor comps[],int nrOfComps, int nrOfTwistPlaces) { int end = 0; int score = 0; for(int i=0;i<nrOfComps;i++) { score = comps[i].checkScore(); if(score == nrOfTwistPlaces) { end = 1; } else end = -1; } return end; } I'd be grateful if you would point out other mistakes if you see any.Thanks in advance.

  • Why doesn't pppd over ssh work here? Why can't I kill pppd?

    - by Peter V. Mørch
I'm trying to setup a simple ppp tunnel over ssh. It works on several machines just fine. But on one machine, pppd gets "stuck": > pgrep pppd | xargs ps up USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 4178 0.0 0.1 3020 1088 pts/1 Ds+ 05:28 0:00 /usr/sbin/pppd Any attempt to kill it (even sudo kill -9 4178) has no effect that I can see. strace -p 4178 also hangs similarly. After it has been started for a while, I start getting messages in dmesg like shown below. It is started like so from another machine: ssh -t root@server /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth When I do this to one of the machines that work, the remote end's pppd spits out garbage/binary data to the console (as expected). When I do it to the one that fails, I get no output from pppd, but the ssh session eventually times out. If I instead ssh to the machine, and then run /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth in a separate step I also get the expected binary output. I now have a couple of questions: What could be up with the one machine where pppd fails? I don't even know where to start looking... What could be the difference between ssh -t root@server /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth in a single step and ssh root@server and /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth in two steps? How can it be that I can't kill the process even with sudo kill -9? The only way I know is to reboot. (I've tried searching for something similar but didn't get anywhere so I'm sorry I don't have any more leads) Any ideas? The problem machine runs in debian on VMware "hardware" (as do the ones that work) and it exhibits the problem when cloned and on both debian lenny (original) and squeeze (after upgrade) dmesg entries: [ 1198.727248] INFO: task pppd:4178 blocked for more than 120 seconds. • IIS Strategies for Accessing Secured Network Resources

    - by ErikE
Problem: A user connects to a service on a machine, such as an IIS web site or a SQL Server database. The site or the database need to gain access to network resources such as file shares (the most common) or a database on a different server. Permission is denied. This is because the user the service is running under doesn't have network permissions in the first place, or if it does, it doesn't have rights to access the remote resource. I keep running into this problem over and over again and am tired of not having a really solid way of handling it. Here are some workarounds I'm aware of: Run IIS as a custom-created domain user who is granted high permissions If permissions are granted one file share at a time, then every time I want to read from a new share, I would have to ask a network admin to add it for me. Eventually, with many web sites reading from many shares, it is going to get really complicated. If permissions are just opened up wide for the user to access any file shares in our domain, then this seems like an unnecessary security surface area to present. This also applies to all the sites running on IIS, rather than just the selected site or virtual directory that needs the access, a further surface area problem. Still use the IUSR account but give it network permissions and set up the same user name on the remote resource (not a domain user, a local user) This also has its problems. For example, there's a file share I am using that I have full rights to for sharing, but I can't log in to the machine. So I have to find the right admin and ask him to do it for me. Any time something has to change, it's another request to an admin. Allow IIS users to connect as anonymous, but set the account used for anonymous access to a high-privilege one This is even worse than giving the IIS IUSR full privileges, because it means my web site can't use any kind of security in the first place. Connect using Kerberos, then delegate This sounds good in principle but has all sorts of problems. First of all, if you're using virtual web sites where the domain name you connect to the site with is not the base machine name (as we do frequently), then you have to set up a Service Principal Name on the webserver using Microsoft's SetSPN utility. It's complicated and apparently prone to errors. Also, you have to ask your network/domain admin to change security policy for both the web server and the domain account so they are "trusted for delegation." If you don't get everything perfectly right, suddenly your intended Kerberos authentication is NTLM instead, and you can only impersonate rather than delegate, and thus no reaching out over the network as the user. Also, this method can be problematic because sometimes you need the web site or database to have permissions that the connecting user doesn't have. Create a service or COM+ application that fetches the resource for the web site Services and COM+ packages are run with their own set of credentials. Running as a high-privilege user is okay since they can do their own security and deny requests that are not legitimate, putting control in the hands of the application developer instead of the network admin. Problems: I am using a COM+ package that does exactly this on Windows Server 2000 to deliver highly sensitive images to a secured web application. I tried moving the web site to Windows Server 2003 and was suddenly denied permission to instantiate the COM+ object, very likely registry permissions. I trolled around quite a bit and did not solve the problem, partly because I was reluctant to give the IUSR account full registry permissions. That seems like the same bad practice as just running IIS as a high-privilege user. Note: This is actually really simple. In a programming language of your choice, you create a class with a function that returns an instance of the object you want (an ADODB.Connection, for example), and build a dll, which you register as a COM+ object. In your web server-side code, you create an instance of the class and use the function, and since it is running under a different security context, calls to network resources work. Map drive letters to shares This could theoretically work, but in my mind it's not really a good long-term strategy. Even though mappings can be created with specific credentials, and this can be done by others than a network admin, this also is going to mean that there are either way too many shared drives (small granularity) or too much permission is granted to entire file servers (large granularity). Also, I haven't figured out how to map a drive so that the IUSR gets the drives. Mapping a drive is for the current user, I don't know the IUSR account password to log in as it and create the mappings. Move the resources local to the web server/database There are times when I've done this, especially with Access databases. Does the database have to live out on the file share? Sometimes, it was just easiest to move the database to the web server or to the SQL database server (so the linked server to it would work). But I don't think this is a great all-around solution, either. And it won't work when the resource is a service rather than a file. Move the service to the final web server/database I suppose I could run a web server on my SQL Server database, so the web site can connect to it using impersonation and make me happy. But do we really want random extra web servers on our database servers just so this is possible? No. Virtual directories in IIS I know that virtual directories can help make remote resources look as though they are local, and this supports using custom credentials for each virtual directory. I haven't been able to come up with, yet, how this would solve the problem for system calls. Users could reach file shares directly, but this won't help, say, classic ASP code access resources. I could use a URL instead of a file path to read remote data files in a web page, but this isn't going to help me make a connection to an Access database, a SQL server database, or any other resource that uses a connection library rather than being able to just read all the bytes and work with them. I wish there was some kind of "service tunnel" that I could create. Think about how a VPN makes remote resources look like they are local. With a richer aliasing mechanism, perhaps code-based, why couldn't even database connections occur under a defined security context? Why not a special Windows component that lets you specify, per user, what resources are available and what alternate credentials are used for the connection? File shares, databases, web sites, you name it. I guess I'm almost talking about a specialized local proxy server. Anyway, so there's my list. I may update it if I think of more. Does anyone have any ideas for me? My current problem today is, yet again, I need a web site to connect to an Access database on a file share. Here we go again...

I need to run the SFTP fileserver binary as root, but direct root login is not allowed. In WinSCP, if I use "default" on SFTP server protocol option everything works as expected. • IIS Strategies for Accessing Secured Network Resources

    - by Emtucifor
Problem: A user connects to a service on a machine, such as an IIS web site or a SQL Server database. The site or the database need to gain access to network resources such as file shares (the most common) or a database on a different server. Permission is denied. This is because the user the service is running as doesn't have network permissions in the first place, or if it does, it doesn't have rights to access the remote resource. • How do I prevent TCP connection freezes over an OpenVPN network?

    - by Jason R
New details added at the end of this question; it's possible that I'm zeroing in on the cause. I have a UDP OpenVPN-based VPN set up in tap mode (I need tap because I need the VPN to pass multicast packets, which doesn't seem to be possible with tun networks) with a handful of clients across the Internet. I've been experiencing frequent TCP connection freezes over the VPN. That is, I will establish a TCP connection (e.g. an SSH connection, but other protocols have similar issues), and at some point during the session, it seems that traffic will cease being transmitted over that TCP session. This seems to be related to points at which large data transfers occur, such as if I execute an ls command in an SSH session, or if I cat a long log file. Some Google searches turn up a number of answers like this previous one on Server Fault, indicating that the likely culprit is an MTU issue: that during periods of high traffic, the VPN is trying to send packets that get dropped somewhere in the pipes between the VPN endpoints. The above-linked answer suggests using the following OpenVPN configuration settings to mitigate the problem: fragment 1400 mssfix This should limit the MTU used on the VPN to 1400 bytes and fix the TCP maximum segment size to prevent the generation of any packets larger than that. This seems to mitigate the problem a bit, but I still frequently see the freezes. I've tried a number of sizes as arguments to the fragment directive: 1200, 1000, 576, all with similar results. I can't think of any strange network topology between the two ends that could trigger such a problem: the VPN server is running on a pfSense machine connected directly to the Internet, and my client is also connected directly to the Internet at another location. One other strange piece of the puzzle: if I run the tracepath utility, then that seems to band-aid the problem. A sample run looks like: [~]$ tracepath -n 192.168.100.91 1: 192.168.100.90 0.039ms pmtu 1500 1: 192.168.100.91 40.823ms reached 1: 192.168.100.91 19.846ms reached Resume: pmtu 1500 hops 1 back 64 The above run is between two clients on the VPN: I initiated the trace from 192.168.100.90 to the destination of 192.168.100.91. Both clients were configured with fragment 1200; mssfix; in an attempt to limit the MTU used on the link. The above results would seem to suggest that tracepath was able to detect a path MTU of 1500 bytes between the two clients. I would assume that it would be somewhat smaller due to the fragmentation settings specified in the OpenVPN configuration. I found that result somewhat strange. Even stranger, however: if I have a TCP connection in the stalled state (e.g. an SSH session with a directory listing that froze in the middle), then executing the tracepath command shown above causes the connection to start up again! I can't figure out any reasonable explanation for why this would be the case, but I feel like this might be pointing toward a solution to ultimately eradicate the problem. Does anyone have any recommendations for other things to try? Edit: I've come back and looked at this a bit further, and have found only more confounding information: I set the OpenVPN connection to fragment at 1400 bytes, as shown above. Then, I connected to the VPN from across the Internet and used Wireshark to look at the UDP packets that were sent to the VPN server while the stall occurred. None were greater than the specified 1400 byte count, so the fragmentation seems to be functioning properly. To verify that even a 1400-byte MTU would be sufficient, I pinged the VPN server using the following (Linux) command: ping <host> -s 1450 -M do This (I believe) sends a 1450-byte packet with fragmentation disabled (I at least verified that it didn't work if I set it to an obviously-too-large value like 1600 bytes). These seem to work just fine; I get replies back from the host with no issue. So, maybe this isn't an MTU issue at all. I'm just confused as to what else it might be! Edit 2: The rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper: I've now isolated the problem a bit more. It seems to be related to the exact OS that the VPN client uses. I have successfully duplicated the problem on at least three Ubuntu machines (versions 12.04 through 13.04). I can reliably duplicate an SSH connection freeze within a minute or so by just cat-ing a large log file. However, if I do the same test using a CentOS 6 machine as a client, then I don't see the problem! I've tested using the exact same OpenVPN client version as I was using on the Ubuntu machines. I can cat log files for hours without seeing the connection freeze. This seems to provide some insight as to the ultimate cause, but I'm just not sure what that insight is. I have examined the traffic over the VPN using Wireshark. I'm not a TCP expert, so I'm not sure what to make of the gory details, but the gist is that at some point, a UDP packet gets dropped due to the limited bandwidth of the Internet link, causing TCP retransmissions inside the VPN tunnel. On the CentOS client, these retransmissions occur properly and things move on happily. At some point with the Ubuntu clients, though, the remote end starts retransmitting the same TCP segment over and over (with the transmit delay increasing between each retransmission). The client sends what looks like a valid TCP ACK to each retransmission, but the remote end still continues to transmit the same TCP segment periodically. This extends ad infinitum and the connection stalls. My question here would be: Does anyone have any recommendations for how to troubleshoot and/or determine the root cause of the TCP issue? It's as if the remote end isn't accepting the ACK messages sent by the VPN client. One common difference between the CentOS node and the various Ubuntu releases is that Ubuntu has a much more recent Linux kernel version (from 3.2 in Ubuntu 12.04 to 3.8 in 13.04). A pointer to some new kernel bug maybe? I'm assuming that if that were so, then I wouldn't be the only one experiencing the problem; I don't think this seems like a particularly exotic setup.

  • CentOS 5.4 NFS v4 client file permissions differ from original files & NFS Share file contents

    - by p4guru
    Having a strange problem with NFS share and file permissions on the 1 out of the 2 NFS clients, web1 has file permissions issues but web2 is fine. web1 and web2 are load balanced web servers. So questions are: how do I ensure NFS share file contents retain the same permissions for user/group as the original files on web1 server like they do on web2 server ? how do I reverse what I did on web1, i tried unmount command and said command not found ? Information: I'm using 3 dedicated server setup. All 3 servers CentOS 5.4 64bit based. servers are as follows: web1 - nfs client with file permissions issues web2 - nfs client file permissions are OKAY db1 - nfs share at /nfsroot web2 nfs client was setup by my web host, while web1 was setup by me. I did the following commands on web1 and it worked with updating db1 nfsroot share at /nfsroot/site_css with latest files on web1 but the file permissions don't stick even if i use tar with -p command to perserve file permissions ? cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zcp site_css/ > site_css.tar.gz mount -t nfs4 nfsshareipaddress:/site_css /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css/ -o rw,soft cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zxf site_css.tar.gz But checking on web1 file permissions no longer username user/group but owned by nobody ? but web2 file permissions correct ? This is only a problem for web1 while web2 is correct ? Looks like numeric ids aren't the same ? Not sure how to correct this ? web1 with incorrect user/group of nobody ls -alh /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48K drwxrwxrwx 2 nobody nobody 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 username username 4.0K Feb 22 02:43 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css web1 numeric ids ls -n /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48 drwxrwxrwx 2 99 99 4096 Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 503 500 4096 Feb 22 02:43 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5876 Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5877 Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5877 Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5876 Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css web2 correct username user/group permissions ls -alh /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48K drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 username username 4.0K Dec 2 14:51 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css web2 numeric ids ls -n /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48 drwxrwxrwx 2 503 500 4096 Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 503 500 4096 Dec 2 14:51 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5876 Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5877 Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5877 Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5876 Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css I checked db1 /nfsroot/site_css and user/group ownership was incorrect for newer files dated feb22 owned by root and not username ? on db1 originally incorrect root assigned user/group for new feb22 dated files ls -alh /nfsroot/site_css total 44K drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 . drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4.0K Feb 17 12:06 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw------- 1 username nfs 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw------- 1 username nfs 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css Then I chmod them all on db1 and chown to set to right ownership on db1 so it looks like below on db1 once corrected the newer feb22 dated files ls -alh /nfsroot/site_css total 44K drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 . drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4.0K Feb 17 12:06 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css but still web1 shows owned by nobody ? while web2 shows correct permissions ? web1 still with incorrect user/group of nobody not matching what web2 and db1 are set to ? ls -alh /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48K drwxrwxrwx 2 nobody nobody 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 username username 4.0K Feb 22 02:43 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css Just so confusing so any help is very very much appreciated! thanks

  • Using nginx + wordpress with all wordpress files in a subdirectory

    - by GorillaPatch
    My setup I am running nginx 0.7.67 on Debian Lenny as a webserver, not as a reverse proxy. I am using php5-fpm to handle my PHP requests, which works fine. My aim I would like to have a wordpress installation that is layed out as described here clean wordpress subversion installation. I would like to have a clean wordpress installation without cluttering my server root directory with all the wordpress files. That means that my wordpress installation would be in /wordpress and my themes and plugins inside /wordpress-content. The important point however is that if you navigate to my domain www.example.com then you would be taken directly to the wordpress blog, without having to specify the subdirectory where wordpress lives. I found a how-to at the nginx site installing wordpress but unfortunately this is for moving the entire wordpress directory instead of redirecting the traffic to it. I tried with the following configuration: example.conf in sites-available server { listen 80; server_name www.example.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/www.example.com.access.log main; root /var/www/example/htdocs; location / { try_files $uri $uri/ /wordpress/index.php?q=$uri&$args; } include /etc/nginx/includes/php5-wordpress.conf; include /etc/nginx/includes/deny.conf; } php5-wordpress.conf in includes location /wordpress { try_files $uri $uri/ /wordpress/index.php?q=$uri&$args; } location ~ \.php$ { fastcgi_split_path_info ^(/wordpress)(/.*)$; fastcgi_ignore_client_abort on; fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.socket; fastcgi_index index.php; include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params; } fastcgi_params fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; fastcgi_param QUERY_STRING $query_string; fastcgi_param REQUEST_METHOD $request_method; fastcgi_param CONTENT_TYPE $content_type; fastcgi_param CONTENT_LENGTH $content_length; fastcgi_param REQUEST_URI $request_uri; fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_URI $document_uri; fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_ROOT $document_root; fastcgi_param SERVER_PROTOCOL $server_protocol; fastcgi_param GATEWAY_INTERFACE CGI/1.1; fastcgi_param SERVER_SOFTWARE nginx/$nginx_version; fastcgi_param REMOTE_ADDR $remote_addr; fastcgi_param REMOTE_PORT $remote_port; fastcgi_param SERVER_ADDR $server_addr; fastcgi_param SERVER_PORT $server_port; fastcgi_param SERVER_NAME $server_name; # PHP only, required if PHP was built with --enable-force-cgi-redirect fastcgi_param REDIRECT_STATUS 200; The problems I have is that when I go to the adress "http://www.example.com" I get a 403 error as I disabled directory listing. Instead I would like my wordpress to appear then. Also if I navigate to "http://www.example.com/wordpress" I get a "file not found" error. However if I comment out the fastcgi_split_path_info line in my php5-wordpress.conf at least the wordpress installation works inside /wordpress. I need help how to debug this behavior or where I can find more information. Thanks alot. Update: Added error log entry for the 403 error. in the error.log I get the following entry for the 403 error: 2010/12/11 07:54:24 [error] 9496#0: *1 directory index of "/var/www/example/htdocs/" is forbidden, client: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX, server: www.example.com, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", host: "www.example.com" Update 2: Added the nginx.conf below: user www-data; worker_processes 1; error_log /var/log/nginx/error.log; pid /var/run/nginx.pid; events { worker_connections 1024; } http { include /etc/nginx/mime.types; default_type application/octet-stream; log_format main '$remote_addr - $remote_user [$time_local] $status ' '"$request" $body_bytes_sent "$http_referer" ' '"$http_user_agent" "$http_x_forwarded_for"'; access_log /var/log/nginx/access.log; sendfile on; #tcp_nopush on; keepalive_timeout 65; tcp_nodelay on; gzip on; index index.php index.html; include /etc/nginx/conf.d/*.conf; include /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*; }

  • All my emails to Yahoo!, Hotmail and AOL are going to Spam, though I've implemented every validation

    - by Chetan
Hi, I've implemented everything and checked everything (SPF, DomainKey, DKIM, reverse lookup), and only Gmail is allowing my emails to go to Inbox. Yahoo, Hotmail and AOL are all sending my messages to Spam. What am I doing wrong? Please help! Following are the headers of messages to Yahoo, Hotmail and AOL. I've changed names and domain names. The domain names I'm sending mail from are polluxapp.com and gemini.polluxapp.com. • CentOS 5.4 NFS v4 client file permissions differ from original files & NFS Share file contents

    - by p4guru
    Having a strange problem with NFS share and file permissions on the 1 out of the 2 NFS clients, web1 has file permissions issues but web2 is fine. web1 and web2 are load balanced web servers. So questions are: how do I ensure NFS share file contents retain the same permissions for user/group as the original files on web1 server like they do on web2 server ? how do I reverse what I did on web1, i tried unmount command and said command not found ? Information: I'm using 3 dedicated server setup. All 3 servers CentOS 5.4 64bit based. servers are as follows: web1 - nfs client with file permissions issues web2 - nfs client file permissions are OKAY db1 - nfs share at /nfsroot web2 nfs client was setup by my web host, while web1 was setup by me. I did the following commands on web1 and it worked with updating db1 nfsroot share at /nfsroot/site_css with latest files on web1 but the file permissions don't stick even if i use tar with -p command to perserve file permissions ? cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zcp site_css/ > site_css.tar.gz mount -t nfs4 nfsshareipaddress:/site_css /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css/ -o rw,soft cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zxf site_css.tar.gz But checking on web1 file permissions no longer username user/group but owned by nobody ? but web2 file permissions correct ? This is only a problem for web1 while web2 is correct ? Looks like numeric ids aren't the same ? Not sure how to correct this ? web1 with incorrect user/group of nobody ls -alh /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48K drwxrwxrwx 2 nobody nobody 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 username username 4.0K Feb 22 02:43 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css web1 numeric ids ls -n /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48 drwxrwxrwx 2 99 99 4096 Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 503 500 4096 Feb 22 02:43 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5876 Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5877 Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5877 Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 99 99 5876 Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css web2 correct username user/group permissions ls -alh /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48K drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 username username 4.0K Dec 2 14:51 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css web2 numeric ids ls -n /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48 drwxrwxrwx 2 503 500 4096 Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 503 500 4096 Dec 2 14:51 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5876 Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5877 Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5877 Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 503 500 5876 Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css I checked db1 /nfsroot/site_css and user/group ownership was incorrect for newer files dated feb22 owned by root and not username ? on db1 originally incorrect root assigned user/group for new feb22 dated files ls -alh /nfsroot/site_css total 44K drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 . drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4.0K Feb 17 12:06 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw------- 1 username nfs 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw------- 1 username nfs 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css Then I chmod them all on db1 and chown to set to right ownership on db1 so it looks like below on db1 once corrected the newer feb22 dated files ls -alh /nfsroot/site_css total 44K drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 . drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4.0K Feb 17 12:06 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css but still web1 shows owned by nobody ? while web2 shows correct permissions ? web1 still with incorrect user/group of nobody not matching what web2 and db1 are set to ? ls -alh /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css total 48K drwxrwxrwx 2 nobody nobody 4.0K Feb 22 02:37 ./ drwxr-xr-x 3 username username 4.0K Feb 22 02:43 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 1 Nov 30 2006 index.html -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-057c3df0-00011.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 22 02:37 style-95001864-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-b1879ba7-00002.css -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 5.8K Feb 18 05:37 style-cc2f96c9-00011.css Just so confusing so any help is very very much appreciated! thanks

  • Postfix "warning: cannot get RSA private key from file"

    - by phew
I just followed this tutorial to set up a postfix mailserver with dovecot and mysql as backend for virtual users. Now I got the most parts working, I can connect to pop3 pop3s imap and imaps. Using echo TEST-MAIL | mail [email protected] works fine, when I log into my hotmail account it shows the email. It also works in reverse hence my MX entry for mydomain.com finally has been propagated, so I am being able to receive emails sent from [email protected] to [email protected] and view them in Thunderbird using STARTTLS via IMAP. Doing a bit more research after I got the error message "5.7.1 : Relay access denied" when trying to send mails to [email protected] using Thunderbird being logged into [email protected], I figured out that my server was acting as an "Open Mail Relay", which - ofcourse - is a bad thing. Digging more into the optional parts of the tutorial like shown workaround.org/comment/2536 and workaround.org/ispmail/squeeze/postfix-smtp-auth I decided to complete these steps aswell to be able to send mails via [email protected] through Mozilla Thunderbird, not getting the error message "5.7.1 : Relay access denied" anymore (as common mailservers reject open relayed emails). But now I ran into an error trying to get postfix working with SMTPS, in /var/log/mail.log it reads Sep 28 17:29:34 domain postfix/smtpd[20251]: warning: cannot get RSA private key from file /etc/ssl/certs/postfix.pem: disabling TLS support Sep 28 17:29:34 domain postfix/smtpd[20251]: warning: TLS library problem: 20251:error:0906D06C:PEM routines:PEM_read_bio:no start line:pem_lib.c:650:Expecting: ANY PRIVATE KEY: Sep 28 17:29:34 domain postfix/smtpd[20251]: warning: TLS library problem: 20251:error:140B0009:SSL routines:SSL_CTX_use_PrivateKey_file:PEM lib:ssl_rsa.c:669: That error is logged right after I try to send a mail from my newly installed mailserver using SMTP SSL/TLS via port 465 in Thunderbird. Thunderbird then tells me a timeout occured. Google has a few results concerning that problem, yet I couldn't get it working with any of those. I would link some of them here but as a new user I am only allowed to use two hyperlinks. My /etc/postfix/master.cf looks like smtp inet n - - - - smtpd smtps inet n - - - - smtpd -o smtpd_tls_wrappermode=yes -o smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes and nmap tells me PORT STATE SERVICE [...] 465/tcp open smtps [...] my /etc/postfix/main.cf looks like smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Debian/GNU) biff = no append_dot_mydomain = no readme_directory = no #smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/postfix.pem #default postfix generated #smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key #default postfix generated smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/postfix.pem smptd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/postfix.pem smtpd_use_tls = yes smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtpd_scache smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache smtpd_sasl_type = dovecot smtpd_sasl_path = private/auth smptd_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated, reject_unauth_destination myhostname = mydomain.com alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases myorigin = /etc/mailname mydestination = localhost.com, localhost relayhost = mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104 [::1]/128 mailbox_size_limit = 0 recipient_delimiter = + inet_interfaces = all virtual_mailbox_domains = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual-mailbox-domains.cf virtual_mailbox_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual-mailbox-maps.cf virtual_alias_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual-alias-maps.cf virtual_transport = dovecot dovecot_destination_recipient_limit = 1 mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver The *.pem files were created like described in the tutorial above, using Postfix To create a certificate to be used by Postfix use: openssl req -new -x509 -days 3650 -nodes -out /etc/ssl/certs/postfix.pem -keyout /etc/ssl/private/postfix.pem Do not forget to set the permissions on the private key so that no unauthorized people can read it: chmod o= /etc/ssl/private/postfix.pem You will have to tell Postfix where to find your certificate and private key because by default it will look for a dummy certificate file called "ssl-cert-snakeoil": postconf -e smtpd_tls_cert_file=/etc/ssl/certs/postfix.pem postconf -e smtpd_tls_key_file=/etc/ssl/private/postfix.pem I think I don't have to include /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf here, as login via imaps and pop3s works fine according to the logs. Only problem is making postfix properly use the self-generated, self-signed certificates. Any help appreciated! EDIT: I just tried this different tutorial on generating a self-signed certificate for postfix, still getting the same error. I really don't know what else to test. I also did check for the SSL libraries, but all seems to be fine: root@domain:~# ldd /usr/sbin/postfix linux-vdso.so.1 => (0x00007fff91b25000) libpostfix-global.so.1 => /usr/lib/libpostfix-global.so.1 (0x00007f6f8313d000) libpostfix-util.so.1 => /usr/lib/libpostfix-util.so.1 (0x00007f6f82f07000) libssl.so.0.9.8 => /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8 (0x00007f6f82cb1000) libcrypto.so.0.9.8 => /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 (0x00007f6f82910000) libsasl2.so.2 => /usr/lib/libsasl2.so.2 (0x00007f6f826f7000) libdb-4.8.so => /usr/lib/libdb-4.8.so (0x00007f6f8237c000) libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x00007f6f82164000) libresolv.so.2 => /lib/libresolv.so.2 (0x00007f6f81f4e000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00007f6f81beb000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00007f6f819e7000) libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x00007f6f817d0000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007f6f815b3000) /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007f6f83581000) After following Ansgar Wiechers instructions its finally working. postconf -n contained the lines as it should. The certificate/key check via openssl did show that both files are valid. So it indeed has been a permissions problem! Didn't know that chown'ing the /etc/ssl/*/postfix.pem files to postfix:postfix is not enough for postfix to read the files.

  • Nginx .zip files return 404

    - by Kenley Tomlin
I have set up Nginx as a reverse proxy for Node and to serve my static files and user uploaded images. I don't believe anything contained within it is relevant to this question. I also want to add that I want the zip files to be a forced download.

  • When gaming computer freezes with a blank screen and a buzzing sound

    - by The Colour Of Heartache
I have a problem with random freezes when playing games. Sometimes it's fine for hours, other times it dosn't last even one. I tried googling around and I found recomendations to update my graphics drivers and to test for overheating. The graphics drivers haven't helped worked and Furmark created a consistant heat higher than I get during a crash. I even tried running a game using the Linux dual boot and WINE, that crashed too. Here are the tempreture logs leading up to the latest crash. The GPU dosn't hit 80, and I've hit 90 with no crash on firmark. • Unable to find valid certification path to requested target while CAS authentication

    - by Dmitriy Sukharev
I'm trying to configure CAS authentication. It requires both CAS and client application to use HTTPS protocol. Unfortunately we should use self-signed certificate (with CN that doesn't have anything in common with our server). Also the server is behind firewall and we have only two ports (ssh and https) visible. As far as there're several application that should be visible externally, we use Apache for ajp reverse proxying requests to these applications. Secure connections are managed by Apache, and all Tomcat are not configured to work with SSL. But I obtained exception while authentication, therefore desided to set keystore in CATALINA_OPTS: export CATALINA_OPTS="-Djavax.net.ssl.keyStore=/path/to/tomcat/ssl/cert.pfx -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStoreType=PKCS12 -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword=password -Djavax.net.ssl.keyAlias=alias -Djavax.net.debug=ssl" cert.pfx was obtained from certificate and key that are used by Apache HTTP Server: $ openssl pkcs12 -export -out /path/to/tomcat/ssl/cert.pfx -inkey /path/to/apache2/ssl/server-key.pem -in /path/to/apache2/ssl/server-cert.pem When I try to authenticate a user I obtain the following exception: Caused by: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target at sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilder.engineBuild(SunCertPathBuilder.java:174) ~[na:1.6.0_32] at java.security.cert.CertPathBuilder.build(CertPathBuilder.java:238) ~[na:1.6.0_32] at sun.security.validator.PKIXValidator.doBuild(PKIXValidator.java:318) ~[na:1.6.0_32] Meanwhile I can see in catalina.out that Tomcat see certificate in cert.pfx and it's the same as the one that is used while authentication: 09:11:38.886 [http-bio-8080-exec-2] DEBUG o.j.c.c.v.Cas20ProxyTicketValidator - Constructing validation url: https://external-ip/cas/proxyValidate?pgtUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fexternal-ip%2Fclient%2Fj_spring_cas_security_proxyreceptor&ticket=ST-17-PN26WtdsZqNmpUBS59RC-cas&service=https%3A%2F%2Fexternal-ip%2Fclient%2Fj_spring_cas_security_check 09:11:38.886 [http-bio-8080-exec-2] DEBUG o.j.c.c.v.Cas20ProxyTicketValidator - Retrieving response from server. keyStore is : /path/to/tomcat/ssl/cert.pfx keyStore type is : PKCS12 keyStore provider is : init keystore init keymanager of type SunX509 *** found key for : 1 chain [0] = [ [ Version: V1 Subject: CN=wrong.domain.name, O=Our organization, L=Location, ST=State, C=Country Signature Algorithm: SHA1withRSA, OID = 1.2.840.113549.1.1.5 Key: Sun RSA public key, 1024 bits modulus: 13??a lot of digits here??19 public exponent: ????7 Validity: [From: Tue Apr 24 16:32:18 CEST 2012, To: Wed Apr 24 16:32:18 CEST 2013] Issuer: CN=wrong.domain.name, O=Our organization, L=Location, ST=State, C=Country SerialNumber: [ d??????? ????????] ] Algorithm: [SHA1withRSA] Signature: 0000: 65 Signature is here 0070: 96 . ] *** trustStore is: /jdk-home-folder/jre/lib/security/cacerts Here is a lot of trusted CAs. • DDNS Not Creating Journal (Dhcpd and Named)

    - by user130094
    * EDIT 1 * After monkeying with additional debug logging I see some log entries of interest. 27-Jul-2012 23:45:26.537 general: error: zone example.lan/IN/internal: journal rollforward failed: no more 27-Jul-2012 23:45:26.537 general: error: zone example.lan/IN/internal: not loaded due to errors. ^^^ If I can remedy the above messages I think I'll be good to go ^^^ * EDIT 2 * Grasping at straws I touched a forward and a reverse zone journal file and restarted named. Boom! Works. Despite documentation stating the files are created automatically and what I have seen before... dunno why but that did the trick. Also re-checked perms on the dir the files live in. As certain as I was, they were correct with named having rw. CentOS 6 (final) dhcpd 4.1.1-P1 named BIND 9.8.2rc1-RedHat-9.8.2-0.10.rc1.el6 Basic DHCP and DNS functionality are in place on 192.168.111.2. Clients are assigned addresses as intended and can resolve local DNS names as well as Internet names. My problem is that named's zone journal files are not created. chroot: /var/named/chroot I tried placing the zone files in various directories (/var/named/data, /var/named, /var/named/dynamic - no matter which dir with named owning and wide open perms I now get nowhere). Along the way I, at one point, got a permission denied when named tried to create the journal. Resolved the issue by: chown --recursive named:named /var/named chmod --recursive 777 /var/named The journal was then created and here's where things fell apart. I attempted to tame permissions to something more sane and broke it. Once changed and having restarted named it threw an error indicating the journal was out of sync (or something to that affect)... didn't matter since this is a new setup so I deleted it and now it is not recreated. Now though I see no errors in /var/log/messages, my chrooted /var/log/named.log, or chrooted /var/log/named.debug. I increased the debug level with 'rndc trace' - no love. Increased trace to 10, still nothing. SELinux is disabled... All three machines have ip forwarding enabled, by this on the gentoo boxes: net.ipv4.conf.all.forwarding = 1 And this on the FreeBSD box: net.inet.ip.forwarding: 1 In the server's "ccd" directory is the following files: client1: iroute 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 client3: iroute 10.0.1.0 255.255.255.0 The server config has these routes configured: push "route 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0" push "route 10.0.1.0 255.255.255.0" route 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 route 10.0.1.0 255.255.255.0 Kino's routing table looks like this: 192.168.150.0 192.168.150.2 255.255.255.0 UG 0 0 0 tun0 10.0.1.0 192.168.150.2 255.255.255.0 UG 0 0 0 tun0 192.168.0.0 192.168.150.2 255.255.255.0 UG 0 0 0 tun0 192.168.150.2 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 tun0 Outpost's like this: 192.168.150 192.168.150.17 UGS 0 17 tun0 192.168.0 192.168.150.17 UGS 0 2 tun0 192.168.150.17 192.168.150.18 UH 3 0 tun0 And Guchuko's like this: 192.168.150.0 192.168.150.9 255.255.255.0 UG 0 0 0 tun0 10.0.1.0 192.168.150.9 255.255.255.0 UG 0 0 0 tun0 192.168.150.9 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 tun0 Now, the tests. Pings from Guchuko to Outpost's LAN IP work OK, as does the reverse - pings from Outpost to Guchuko's LAN IP. However... Pings from Outpost, to a machine on Guchuko's LAN work fine: .(( root@outpost )). (( 06:39 PM )) :: ~ :: # ping 192.168.0.3 PING 192.168.0.3 (192.168.0.3): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.168.0.3: icmp_seq=0 ttl=63 time=462.641 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.0.3: icmp_seq=1 ttl=63 time=557.909 ms But a ping from Guchuko, to a machine on Outpost's LAN does not: .(( root@guchuko )). (( 06:43 PM )) :: ~ :: # ping 10.0.1.253 PING 10.0.1.253 (10.0.1.253) 56(84) bytes of data. --- 10.0.1.253 ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 2000ms Guchuko's tcpdump of tun0 shows: 18:46:27.716931 IP 192.168.150.10 > 10.0.1.253: ICMP echo request, id 63009, seq 1, length 64 18:46:28.716715 IP 192.168.150.10 > 10.0.1.253: ICMP echo request, id 63009, seq 2, length 64 18:46:29.716714 IP 192.168.150.10 > 10.0.1.253: ICMP echo request, id 63009, seq 3, length 64 Outpost's tcpdump on tun0 shows: 18:44:00.333341 IP 192.168.150.10 > 10.0.1.253: ICMP echo request, id 63009, seq 3, length 64 18:44:01.334073 IP 192.168.150.10 > 10.0.1.253: ICMP echo request, id 63009, seq 4, length 64 18:44:02.331849 IP 192.168.150.10 > 10.0.1.253: ICMP echo request, id 63009, seq 5, length 64 So Outpost is receiving the ICMP request destined for the machine on it's subnet, but appears not be forwarding it. Outpost has gateway_enable="YES" in its rc.conf which correctly sets net.inet.ip.forwarding to 1 as mentioned earlier. As far as I know, that's all that's required to make a FreeBSD box forward packets between interfaces. Is there something else I could be forgetting ? FWIW, pinging 10.0.1.253 from Kino has the same result - the traffic does not get forwarded. UPDATE: I've found that I can only ping certain IP's on Guchuko's LAN from Outpost. From Outpost I can ping 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.2, but 192.168.99 and 192.168.0.4 are unreachable. The same tcpdump behavior can be seen. I think this means the problem can't be due to ipforwarding or routing, because Outpost can reach SOME hosts on Guchuko's LAN but not others and likewise, Guchuko can reach two hosts on Outpost's LAN, but not others. This baffles me.

  • Django TemplateSyntaxError only on live server (templates exist)

    - by Tom
I'm getting a strange error that only occurs on the live server. My Django templates directory is set up like so base.html two-column-base.html portfolio index.html extranet base.html index.html The portfolio pages work correctly locally on multiple machines. They inherit from either the root base.html or two-column-base.html. However, now that I've posted them to the live box (local machines are Windows, live is Linux), I get a TemplateSyntaxError: "Caught TemplateDoesNotExist while rendering: base.html" when I try to load any portfolio pages. It seems to be a case where the extends tag won't work in that root directory (???). Even if I do a direct_to_template on two-column-base.html (which extends base.html), I get that error. The extranet pages all work perfectly, but those templates all live inside the /extranet folder and inherit from /extranet/base.html. Possible issues I've checked: file permissions on the server are fine the template directory is correct on the live box (I'm using os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__)) to make things work across machines) files exist and the /templates directories exactly match my local copy removing the {% extends %} block from the top of any broken template causes the templates to render without a problem manually starting a shell session and calling get_template on any of the files works, but trying to render it blows up with the same exception on any of the extended templates. Doing the same with base.html, it renders perfectly (base.html also renders via direct_to_template) Django 1.2, Python 2.6 on Webfaction. Apologies in advance because this is my 3rd or 4th "I'm doing something stupid" question in a row. The only x-factor I can think of is this is my first time using Mercurial instead ofsvn. Not sure how I could have messed things up via that. EDIT: One possible source of problems: local machine is Python 2.5, live is 2.6. Here's a traceback of me trying to render 'two-column-base.html', which extends 'base.html'. Both files are in the same directory, so if it can find the first, it can find the second. c is just an empty Context object. >>> render_to_string('two-column-base.html', c) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<console>", line 1, in <module> File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 186, in render_to_string return t.render(context_instance) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 173, in render return self._render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 167, in _render return self.nodelist.render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/__init__.py", line 796, in render bits.append(self.render_node(node, context)) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/debug.py", line 72, in render_node result = node.render(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader_tags.py", line 103, in render compiled_parent = self.get_parent(context) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader_tags.py", line 100, in get_parent return get_template(parent) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 157, in get_template template, origin = find_template(template_name) File "/home/lightfin/webapps/django/lib/python2.6/django/template/loader.py", line 138, in find_template raise TemplateDoesNotExist(name) TemplateSyntaxError: Caught TemplateDoesNotExist while rendering: base.html I'm wondering if this is somehow related to the template caching that was just added to Django. EDIT 2 (per lazerscience): template-related settings: import os PROJECT_ROOT = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__)) TEMPLATE_DIRS = ( os.path.join(PROJECT_ROOT, 'templates'), ) sample view: def project_list(request, jobs, extra_context={}): context = { 'jobs': jobs, } print context context.update(extra_context) return render_to_response('portfolio/index.html', context, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) The templates in reverse-order are: http://thosecleverkids.com/junk/index.html http://thosecleverkids.com/junk/portfolio-base.html http://thosecleverkids.com/junk/two-column-base.html http://thosecleverkids.com/junk/base.html though in the real project the first two live in a directory called "portfolio".
