  I'm looking for a package to support reliably executing external processes from Java. My criteria: Abstract over OS. So if I want to run 'foo', it will look for 'foo.bat', 'foo.exe' under windows and 'foo' under other OSs (or, have a way of passing a map of os-command) Being able to execute Java classes by simply giving the class name and arguments (so the package locates the java command, copies jvm flags and then executes) Process stdout and stderr properly Watchdog / Monitoring capabilities I've looked at commons-exec but it looks like it answers only 3 & 4. Ant has support for execution but looks like an overkill to use it for this purpose only.

• My Delphi 7 application halts on Application.Initialize and does not return to next line

  I have created an application on Delphi 7. my app had running fine since yesterday. I don't know what's happened yesterday which cause my application halts on Application.Initialize line in source code and does not return to next line when i trace the program. I can't run the created executable file from widows niether while the generated file does run on another machine correctly. here is the code where the compiler stops on it: program Info_Kiosk; uses SysUtils, Forms, ... • How many variables is to many when storing in _SESSION?

  Hi - I'm looking for an idea of best practices here. I have a web based application that has a number of hooks into other systems. Let's say 5, and each of these 5 systems has a number of flags to determine different settings the user has selected in said systems, lets say 5 settings per system (so 5*5). I am storing the status of these settings in the user sesion variables and was wondering is that a sufficient way of doing it? I'm learning php as I go along so not sure about any pitfalls that this could run me into!

• How do manage the limit of executions to be done by hour (Max: 1000 requests per hour) without a dat

  I am currently developing a script in PHP to fetch webpages. The fact is that by doing so, I occasionally do too much requests to a particular website. In order to control any overflow, I would like to keep trace of how many requests have been done in the last hour or so for each domain. It doesn't need to be perfect, just a good estimate. I doesn't have access to a database, except sqlite2. I would really like something really simple because there will typically be a lot of updates, which is kind of heavy for a sqlite database. If no one has a magical solution, I'll go for sqlite, but I was curious what you can come up with Thank you very much

  In an ActionScript 2 project I can create a new MovieClip, right-click on it on the library and select "Component Definition" to add parameters that can be referenced inside the MovieClip. This parameters can be easily changed in the MovieClips's properties. Now, I'm working on an ActionScript 3 project but haven't been able to figure out a way to obtain the values passed in those parameters. I defined a parameter named "textToDisplay" but when I write the following in the Actions for the first frame I get an error: trace(textToDisplay); This is the error: 1120: Access of undefined property textToDisplay. • iOS Development: Why isn't my try block catching the exception?

  Hi. I have an exception being thrown in my code, but when I wrap it in an try/catch block, it doesn't get caught. The NSLog statement is never called in the catch block. Here's the code... • Flash: How to get a list to be processed synchronous instead of asynchronous?

  Question: In Flash I have the below function. Now the problem is SaveFurniture, SavePolygons and SaveComments all save to the same XML file. Now SaveFurniture sends JSON encoded data to a ashx handler, which saves it in the xml on the server. The problem is, because flash sends the data asynchronous, the polygons get sent to the polygonsave ashx handler, but before saving of the furniture has completed, thus access error, write process already in progress... // cSaveData.SaveData(); public static function SaveData():void { trace("cSaveData.SaveData"); //NotifyASPXofNewScale(cGlobals.nPlanScale); SaveFurniture(); SavePolygons(); SaveComments(); } What's the best way to process this list, ONE AFTER ANOTHER ?   I know that in the sdk folders I can find some (not very well grouped, imho) icon. But, there is a site online specialized that let you download free icons useful for mobile app? Ie world flags, up, down... save, revert..., next..., play, stop..., etc. It would be more appriciated also if you can find these sets in many different colors, and in 2 or 3 sizes (32x32, 64x64, etc.). Have a nice day (ot. Especially my mom - her 62 birthday :-) Edit: those are all good sites, but to green-check the answer I need a small set with the common icons (I think moreabout 50-70 icons), in many different colors and in 2 or 3 different sizes (for lo-mid-hi definition devices). - If a so done site exists for free :-)

• Maximum compression of a MSI install using WIX

  I used to build installs for an app with NSIS and the final self extractor was 1.2 MB. Now I need to use WIX due to operational needs and the same install comes out at 4.2 MB. I set the compressed flags as the docs and specs indicated on the package node. Using 7z to zip the MSI results in a 2.4 MB zip file. Question: How can I do a maximum compress on the MSI or create a small MSI (e.g. remove unneeded resources etc) ? Note - size is uber important and I have to use MSI/WIX now - this is a show stopper!

• Why doesn't a 32bit .deb package install on 64bit Ubuntu?

  My .deb package, built on 32-bit Ubuntu and containing executables compiled with gcc, won't install on the 64-bit version of the OS (the error message says 'Wrong architecture i386'). This is confusing to me because I thought that in general 32-bit software worked on 64-bit hardware, but not vice-versa. Will it be possible for me to produce a .deb file that I can install on a 64-bit OS, using my 32-bit machine? Is it just a matter of using the appropriate compiler flags to produce the executables (and if so what are they), or is the .deb file itself somehow specific to one processor architecture?

• Is there a way to force JUnit to fail on ANY unchecked exception, even if swallowed

  I am using JUnit to write some higher level tests for legacy code that does not have unit tests. Much of this code "swallows" a variety of unchecked exceptions like NullPointerExceptions (e.g., by just printing stack trace and returning null). Therefore the unit test can pass even through there is a cascade of disasters at various points in the lower level code. Is there any way to have a test fail on the first unchecked exception even if they are swallowed? The only alternative I can think of is to write a custom JUnit wrapper that redirects System.err and then analyzes the output for exceptions.

  I have a very annoying issue and I would love a solution. The problem: I followed the MDSN tutorial- http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/adding-a-model Then I tried this guide according to my needs and I set up a database GAMES.MDF.   Then, I deleted the database and set it up again, is supposedly work (I can write and read data), but There is no such database in the APP_DATA folder. Like it keeps it somewhere in my PC and reuse it.   I even tried a new project and it did not work, works but not in the library, and it even uses the data I created before. I even deleted the DB from SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Does anyone know what the hell? How do I delete it permanently, not to remain any trace of him?   Thank you.  Ido

  In my deployment on JBoss 5.1.0GA with JavaEE-5 I have beans of the general form public interface Foo { void baz (); } @Stateless public class FooBean implements Foo { void baz() { // ... } } I have assumed that this is the same as if I have explicitly annotated the Foo interface with @Local. From seeing a stack trace in the code I think that it is actually using a remote interface, whereas I want all of my beans to be local. Do I need to explicitly annotate interfaces as Local or is there some default? Finding documentation on this is proving challenging so any links to relevant documentation would be greatly appreciated.

• OSGI bundle (or service)- how to register for a given time period?

Search did not give me a hint, how can i behave with the following situation: I'd love to have 2 OSGI implementations of the same interface: one is regular, the other should work (be active/present/whatever) on the given time period (f.e for Christmas weeks :)) The main goal is to call the same interface without specifying any flags/properties/without manual switching of ranking. Application should somehow switch implementation for this special period, doing another/regular job before and after :) I'm a newbie, maybe i do not completely understand OSGI concept somewhere, sorry for that of give me a hint or link, sorry for my English.   I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height). Any pointers, to what could be the reasons for the discrepancy in .width values on stage and on run-time? Its breaking the scaling code that follows.

The code works as desired, however I am evaluating Netbeans (7 beta) as a PHP IDE (instead of just using a text editor). Netbeans flags the code with an error: Misplaced non-space characters insided [sic] a table. Should I consider an alternate way of writing this code, or is Netbeans incapable of understanding this flow control wrapper for HTML output?

• What could cause a returning function to crash? C++

  So I have been debugging this error for hours now. I writing a program using Ogre3d relevant only because it doesn't load symbols so it doesn't let me stack trace which made finding the location of the crash even harder. So, write before I call a specific function I print out "Starting" then I call the function and immediately after I print "Stopping". Throughout the function I print out letters A-F where F is printed right before the function returns (one line above the last '}') The weird thing is when the crash occurs it is after the 'F' is printed but there is no 'Stopping'. Does this mean that the crash is happening in between somewhere? The only thing I can think of is something going wrong during the deallocation of some of the memory allocated during the function. I've never had anything happen like this, I will keep checking to make sure it's going wrong where I think it is.

  Does log4J still gather the class, method and line numbers by generating exceptions and inspecting the stack trace? Or has Java been optimized since Sun included their own logging framework. If not, why has there not been any optimizations made since. What is the main challenges in obtaining class, method and line numbers quickly and efficiently? Although I hate annotations and try to avoid them, has log4J not made use of this, such as: @log4j-class MyClass @log4j-method currentMethodOne At least this would avoid some companies bad habit of repeatedly writing/copying the method name as the first part of their logging message (which is seriously annoying).
