• Is the term "web portal" obselete?

  Firstly, sorry if this is the wrong place: I've looked at all the programming-related boards and this one seems like the best fit - correct me if I'm wrong. My boss uses the term "portal" for the project I work on all the time. To me, the word makes me think of Yahoo in the late 90s. Does the word "portal" have old-school connotations, or is it just me? Do you think it's ok to use it, and not drag our client's perception of the product down into the middle-ages? Or again, am I just being weird?

• How we should load the MFMailViewController in cocos2d ?

  I am writing an app in using cocos2d. This method I have written for the selector goToFirstScreen: . The view is in landscape mode. I need to send an email. So, I need to launch the MFMailComposeViewController. I need it in portrait mode. But, the control is not entering in to viewDidLoad of the mailMe class. The problem is in goToScreen: method.   I have been fiddling with this code for a few days. Mind you I am a beginner. I just want to get my script to be able to download a remote file, and scan MineCraft plugins. I got the scan plugins to work, but I'm having two other issues. • JAXB marshals XML differently to OutputStream vs. StringWriter

  I apologize if this has been answered, but the search terms I have been using (i.e. JAXB @XmlAttribute condensed or JAXB XML marshal to String different results) aren't coming up with anything. I am using JAXB to un/marshal objects annotated with @XmlElement and @XmlAttribute annotations. I have a formatter class which provides two methods -- one wraps the marshal method and accepts the object to marshal and an OutputStream, the other just accepts the object and returns the XML output as a String. Unfortunately, these methods do not provide the same output for the same objects. When marshaling to a file, simple object fields internally marked with @XmlAttribute are printed as: <element value="VALUE"></element> while when marshaling to a String, they are: <element value="VALUE"/> I would prefer the second format for both cases, but I am curious as to how to control the difference, and would settle for them being the same regardless. I even created one static marshaller that both methods use to eliminate different instance values. • How do I teach bash in Ubuntu some curse words?

  When bash encounters an unknown command(word?) it does this : The program 'hello' can be found in the following packages: * hello * hello-debhelper Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package> what I would like to know is how this is done so I can edit it or add something before it to cross check the unknown word from a home grown dictionary which would have phrase:reply pairs that can then be sent to output. I am guilty of not looking enough for it around .. but the few bash guides I tried digging up didn't have anything on this. Maybe I am looking at the wrong places .. any pointers? And yes I am doing this so every time I type wtf when a program fails , I want something nice thrown back at me...

• If Expression True in Immediate Window But Code In if Block Never Runs

  I set a break point in my code in MonoDevelop to break whenever I click on a surface. I then enter the immediate window and test to see if the the if statement will return true in comparing two Vector3's. It does return true. However, when I step over, the code is never run as though the statement evaluated false. Does anyone know how this could be possible? I've attached a screenshot. Here is the picture of my debug window and immediate window. You can see where the immediate window evaluates to true. The second breakpoint is not hit. Here are the details of the two Vector3's I am comparing. Does anyone know why I am experiencing this? It really seems like an anomaly to me :/ Does it have something to do with threading?

I wonder if the kewybord "blog" has a very positive effect in SEO? In my own site, I have install word press in root folder to avoid any blog keyword. I also did this to keep urls shallow (deeper url are not good for SEO). But I may want to think on it again. This thesaurus data model can be defined as: a controlled vocabulary arranged in a known order in which equivalence, hierarchical, and associative relationships among terms are clearly displayed and identified by standardized relationship indicators. My idea so far is to have one database in which every word is a table, and every table contains all words related to that word. e.g. Thesaurus(database) - happy(table) - excited(row)|cheerful(row)|lively(row) Is there are more efficient way to store words and their relationship to other words in a relational SQL database?

  How can I control what happens with window after clicking JOPtionPane buttons ? I'm trying to implement simple file chooser. In my frame I have 3 buttons (OK, Cancel, Browse). Browse button opens file search window, and after picking files should return to main frame. Clicking OK will open a frame with the content of the file. Now porblem looks this way.   I recently signed up for an iTunes account, and found that somebody had fraudulently used MY email to register their iTunes account. Why Apple did not validate the email address, I will never know. Now I am told that I cannot use my email address to register a new iTunes account, as this email address is linked to an existing account. This got me thinking, as developers, database administrators, technical analysts, and everything in between, how should we handle reports of a fraud account? Experience teaches us never to re-assign identifying credentials. This can break things and/or cause mass confusion, especially in the realm of the web. That is, if we are are needing to reassign an identifying user credential we can very likely break a users bookmark by making a page render data that previously did not exist at that location. So if we have been taught not to re-assign details like these, how should we handle such a case where an account is discovered to be a fraud and the owner of the identity (e-mail or user name) wishes to claim this detail for their account?

  Office Web App is the online version of Microsoft Office 2010 which is very helpful if you are going to use SharePoint 2010 in your organization as it allows you to do basic editing of word document without installing the Office Suite in the client machine.   I was wondering the if if-else statements, is like a switch statement that does not have a break statement.To clarify with an example, will the if-else statement go through all the boolean expressions even if comes to one that is true before the final one... I.E., if boolean_expression_1 was true, would it check if boolean_expression_2 is true? If not, why do switch statements need break statements but if-else statements do not? • A ResetBindings on a BindingSource of a Grid also resets ComboBox

  Hi there, I have a DataGridView with a BindingSource of products. This products have an enum (Producer). For the most text fields (to edit the product) below the DataGridView I have a method RefreshProduct which does a ResetBindings in the end to refresh the DataGridView. There is a ComboBox (cboProducer), too. If I run over the _orderBs.ResetBindings(false) it will reset my cboProducer outside the DataGridView, too. Could you please help me to avoid this? • Multithreading synchronization interview question: Find n words given m threads

  I came across this question: You are given a paragraph , which contain n number of words, you are given m threads. What you need to do is , each thread should print one word and give the control to next thread, this way each thread will keep on printing one word , in case last thread come, it should invoke the first thread. Printing will repeat until all the words are printed in paragraph. Finally all threads should exit gracefully. What kind of synchronization will use? I strongly feel we cannot take any advantage of threads here but interviewer is trying to understand my synchronization skills? No need of code, just put some thoughts. I will implement by myself.
