    I have heard several terms for a C++ "Codepoint" (which is what I've heard used the most often), or a .cpp file that is compiled into an object file. For instance, .cpp files can include other .cpp files (or any other file, really, so long as it compiles), but during compilation, there is really only one 'main' code file that is used/generated. I know there is a widely accepted term, I just can't recall what it is. What is the accepted term for the final .c/.cpp file used to generate an object file?

  • Speed-up large number of files deletion on NTFS volumes

    Every now and then I need to delete a folder containing something like 500k files from an NTFS volume. I do this with Windows Explorer. Since NTFS journals all the service data changes each deletion is carried out serially and so the whole 500k files deletion takes ages. I remember when I did the same in FAT32 it ran uncomparably faster. Is there any way to speed up deletion of large number of files on NTFS volumes?

    There are many network analysis tools like Wireshark, Sniffer Pro, Omnipeak which can dump the packet data in structured manner. I'm just writing my own file analyzer for general purpose, which can dump JPEG, PNG, EXE, ELF, ASN.1 DER encoded files, etc. in tree style. There are so many file formats in the world that I can't handle them all. So I'm wondering if there's some software already there, with pluggable architecture and a large established file format repository?

  • Download of ~100MB file from Joomla + Docman component is incomplete (sometimes)

    Hi, I hope this is right place for this. I am currently running Joomla v1 with a file management component called Docman on a Bluehost server. Some users (particularly with slower download speeds) are experiencing partial file downloads with some of my larger files (~100MB). I would like to keep the Joomla + Docman installation.   • Why do my VMware Images get so large?

    Hi, I have a Centos VMware Image that I have recreated a couple times, and I notice that after a while it gets pretty large. It starts out at 8 GBs when I make it, and a week or two later it is 25GB and then a month later it is a whole 50GB or so. I am not installing anything crazy on it, and my disk usage on the VM is pretty low. Is there an option that could be affecting the size of these VMs?

    I need a script that can be run on freshly installed windows xp+ and download specified files from internet, like http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.6.2/python-2.6.2.msi Is it any easy way to do it without hand-crafting HTTP/FTP requests or using third-party programs like wget? I can suggest that WScript.CreateObject("internetexplorer.application") will do the magic, but documentation on it is extremely huge and Google is silent, as always :).

  • Switches with large MAC address table?

    Does anyone know which switches have a large MAC address table ? I see most switches having only 8K, but we need to store way, way more than that (hundreds of K). I know this may seem odd, but trust me, there's no other way we can make our setup work. The only thing we seem to be able to do is install Juniper routers that store up to 1M addresses, but that will get quite costly and we'd rather avoid doing that.

    When formatting a document such as a resume, MS Word often inserts a large gap in the text--sometimes as much as half a page of blank space. When I try to delete the gap, moving the cursor from the continued text after the gap, it skips over the gap as if it's not even there, and deletes text from the previous point in the document before the gap. I can't "grab" the gap or highlight/delete the gap in any way. Ideas??

    Writing my game in libgdx, I arrived at the point when I need to save the player stats and the info of the levels. However, in libgdx it's not allowed to write the file inside folder of the application, only external (on the SD) is allowed. The point is that I don't want the file to be seen by anyone, or if they can see it, how can I convert it to a binary file so it's not human readable? I just want to hide the file.

E.g., if I pay $10k for one payment I will save $4000 in interest over the life of the loan, etc. Is there a way to calculate this?

    I'm using mutt in the following way: echo <MESSAGE> | mutt -s <SUBJECT> -- <TO-ADDR> This usually works when I try small message (messages with ~10 lines in the body). But when trying very large message (a message with ~200 lines) the email just isn't received. Any ideas?

  • What is the @ sign on the end of file permission on terminal?

    I have a sound file in my app that the iPhone does not play. After checking other problems I checked the file permission in terminal. What I can see is that the file permission of this file has a- @ at the end of it. I don't know if that is the problem but this is the only difference from the other sound files that plays fine. What is this sign ? Could it cause a problem ?   • Pasting a download link into google chrome

    When I want to download something in Safari, like http://foo.com/bar.zip, all I have to do is paste that link into the dowloads window. Is there a way to do this in Chrome? I've gotten used to Safari, hitting cmd-alt-L (dowloads window), and then pasting. It's quick, neat, and saves me going to FileSave As... I like to keep my hands on the keyboard, so if there is a quick way to do this without using a mouse, that's my ideal solution.

  • Can you span a single file share across multiple servers?

    Let's say I have one large file server that has a company-wide share. That file server constantly runs into space issues. Now let's say I have a dozen or so random servers (print servers, web servers, etc) that have a ton of free space. Is there a way to utilize that in the company-wide file share? Like spanning the storage across different servers but making that transparent to the user? I know the likely answer is going to be get more storage for the file server, but I just curious if this is conceptually possible. Thanks!

    I've noticed that on non-windows OS.... ie linux/mac i can do things like: - Send a zip to a friend over aim - Delete the file while it's in transfer And the transfer does not fail. Or, I can do operations like.. - start a movie - erase the file - the movie still plays to completion (read from disk, not just buffered in memory) Although the files are being "deleted", as i mentioned, they are actually being moved to a different location on the file system... ie a Trash directory or something. So it seems to me like the OS uses a pointer @ the file that is updated when it moves rather than accessing the files directly. Can anyone shed some light on how this AWESOME capability is actually implemented? I'm not even sure what to google to learn more about it. thank you.

  • Prevent Windows 7 PC from sleeping while a download is in progress

    While I'm downloading a large file on Windows 7 using Google Chrome, my computer goes to sleep. I could obviously set the computer to not sleep at all (or change the interval before the computer sleeps). What I want to know is: Is there a way to make Windows 7 not sleep as long as a download is in progress? (perhaps when any network activity is going on?). I've looked in the Advanced Power settings, and haven't seen any obvious setting.

    I found a script on here that would use 7zip and extract all the files in all the sub-folders of a specific folder and put them in their own folder using the script below. What I need is add to it or maybe use another script if i have to and specify where i want those files to go instead of putting them in their own folder within the folder. I don't know how to do this and hope someone would be able to help.     I've got two partition images (A and B) and want to use them to create a patch that I can apply on A on another computer in order to get the new B image without flooding the network. I have the following requirements: works on linux can create diffs can use diffs to patch files can handle binary files can handle large files (a few hundred GB should work) no user interaction required (just a console application) ideally, should be able to read from/write to pipes (so that I can pipe into it from a gzip-compressed file and write to one) Does something like that exist?
