  • Multithreaded ActiveRecord requests in rspec

    - by jeem
I'm trying to recreate a race condition in a test, so I can try out some solutions. I find that in the threads I create in my test, ActiveRecord always returns 0 for counts and nil for finds. For example, with 3 rows in the table "foos": it "whatever" do puts Foo.count 5.times do Thread.new do puts Foo.count end end end will print 3 0 0 0 0 0 test.log shows the expected query, the expected 6 times: SELECT count(*) AS count_all FROM `active_agents` Any idea what's going on here?

  • Creating an instance in rails association

    - by Sandeep Rao
I have three models where a basiccase has a form. Basic case can create a new form. class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :basiccases end class Basiccase < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_one :basiccases end class Form3C < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :basiccases end I want to create an instance of form 3c in the form3c controller. Can any one explain me how I can carry the basiccase_id to the form3c controller to set the foreign key attribute. I can set the value using @basiccase.build_form3_c but I'm not sure how I can get the basiccase_id from the basiccase.

  • How to insert rows in a many-to-many relationship

    - by GSound
Hello, I am having an issue trying to save into an intermediate table. I am new on Rails and I have spent a couple of hours on this but can't make it work, maybe I am doing wrong the whole thing. Any help will be appreciated. =) The app is a simple book store, where a logged-in user picks books and then create an order. This error is displayed: NameError in OrderController#create uninitialized constant Order::Orderlist These are my models: class Book < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :orderlists has_many :orders, :through => :orderlists end class Order < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_many :orderlists has_many :books, :through => :orderlists end class OrderList < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :book belongs_to :order end This is my Order controller: class OrderController < ApplicationController def add if session[:user] book = Book.find(:first, :conditions => ["id = #{params[:id]}"]) if book session[:list].push(book) end redirect_to :controller => "book" else redirect_to :controller => "user" end end def create if session[:user] @order = Order.new if @order.save session[:list].each do |b| @order.orderlists.create(:book => b) # <-- here is my prob I cant make it work end end end redirect_to :controller => "book" end end Thnx in advance! • Rails from with better url

    - by Sam
wow, switching to rest is a different paradigm for sure and is mainly a headache right now. view <% form_tag (businesses_path, :method => "get") do %> <%= select_tag :business_category_id, options_for_select(@business_categories.collect {|bc| [bc.name, bc.id ]}.insert(0, ["All Containers", 0]), which_business_category(@business_category) ), { :onchange => "this.form.submit();"} %> <% end %> controller def index @business_categories = BusinessCategory.find(:all) if params[:business_category_id].to_i != 0 @business_category = BusinessCategory.find(params[:business_category_id]) @businesses = @business_category.businesses else @businesses = Business.all end respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @businesses } end end routes map.resources What I want to to is get a better url than what this form is presenting which is the following: http://localhost:3000/businesses?business_category_id=1 Without rest I would have do something like http://localhost:3000/business/view/bbq bbq as permalink or I would have done http://localhost:300/business_categories/view/bbq and get the business that are associated with the category but I don't really know the best way of doing this. So the two questions are what is the best logic of finding a business by its categories using the latter form and number two how to get that in a pretty url all through restful routes in rails.

  • ActiveRecord find starts with

    - by robintw
Really simple question - how do I do a search to find all records where the name starts with a certain string in ActiveRecord. I've seen all sorts of bits all over the internet where verbatim LIKE SQL clauses are used - but from what I've heard that isn't the 'correct' way of doing it. Is there a 'proper' Rails way?

  • Rails - How to secure foreign keys and still allow association selection

    - by Bryce
For simplicity, assume that I have a simple has-many-through relationship class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :courses, :through => :registrations end class Registration < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :course end class Course < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users, :through => :registrations end I want to keep my app secure, so I use attr_accessible to whitelist my attributes. My question is twofold: How would I set up my whitelist attributes such that I could create a new Registration object through a form (passing in :user and :course, but not risk allowing those foreign keys to be maliciously updated later? How would I set up my validations such that both belongs_to associations are required BUT also allow for Registration objects to be created in nested forms?

  • Javascript not executing (I included format.js)

    - by Brandon
I added format.js to my controller, yet I still cannot get the js in index.js.erb to execute when I view my index page. The only thing I can figure out is that it must be because of the model name. I had to add ActiveSupport::Inflector.inflections do |inflect| inflect.irregular 'business', 'businesses' end to my inflections.rb file...because my model is called Business. my views/js are located at views/businesses/* Please help before I pull my hair out! All I have in the index.js.erb file is: alert(1); Obviously the goal is that I will get an alert when I finally get the issue fixed, letting me know it is working.

  • Rails find all with association

    - by aaronrussell
I have what I think is a very simple problem (famous last words)... I have a Category model that has_and_belongs_to_many Events. I want to construct a simple and efficient query that finds all categories that have 1 or more events. (using Rails 3) I'm sure I'm having a dumb moment here - any help appreciated :)

  • How can I get a set of radio buttons to accept NULL (nothing checked)?

    - by Ethan
I'm working on a Rails application where I have some a set of two radio buttons where users can click "yes" or "no". The MySQL DB column created by the ActiveRecord migration is a tinyint. If the user doesn't click either radio button I want MySQL to store NULL. (The column allows NULL.) And when they come back to edit the data, neither button should be checked. What's happening is that ActiveRecord is storing 0 and then when I come back the "No" button is checked. Rails 2.3.5 Form code (I'm using Haml): = f.radio_button( :model_attribute, true ) Yes = f.radio_button( :model_attribute, false ) No (In retrospect it probably would have been better to use a single checkbox, but it would be difficult to change that now.)

  • Rails cookies not working right

    - by Michael Waxman
Rails is setting and returning a remember_token cookie like this: = cookies[:remember_token] = value6c69b17681d2bf316f8eexpiresThu Jun 10 14:55:00 -0400 2010 In other words, when I'm calling the cookie I don't just get the value. Why is this? I am setting the cookie as follows: cookies[:remember_token] = { :value => @user.remember_me, :expires => 1.year.from_now} What's going on here?

  • Time.new does not work as I would expect

    - by Marius Pop
I am trying to generate some seed material. seed_array.each do |seed| Task.create(date: Date.new(2012,06,seed[1]), start_t: Time.new(2012,6,2,seed[2],seed[3]), end_t: Time.new(2012,6,2,seed[2] + 2,seed[3]), title: "#{seed[0]}") end Ultimately I will put random hours, minutes, seconds. The problem that I am facing is that instead of creating a time with the 2012-06-02 date it creates a time with a different date: 2000-01-01. I tested Time.new(2012,6,2,2,20,45) in rails console and it works as expected. When I am trying to seed my database however some voodo magic happens and I don't get the date I want. • how can I cache a partial retrieved through link_to_remote in rails?

    - by Angela
I use link_to_remote to pull the dynamic contents of a partial onto the page. It's basically a long row from a database of "todo's" for the day. So as the person goes through and checks them off, I want to show the updated list with a line through those that are finished. Currently, I end up needing to click on the link_to_remote again after an item is ticked off, but would like it to redirect back to the "cached" page of to-do's but with the one item lined through. How do I do that? Here is the main view: <% @campaigns.each do |campaign| %> <!--link_to_remote(name, options = {}, html_options = nil)--> <tr><td> <%= link_to_remote(campaign.name, :update => "campaign_todo", :url => {:action => "campaign_todo", :id => campaign.id } ) %> </td></tr> <% end %> </table> <div id="campaign_todo"> </div> I'd like when the New/Create actions are done to go back to the page that redirected it there.

  • Nested form child only updates if parent changes.

    - by chap
In this video (10 sec) you can see that the nested attribute is only updated if it's parent model is changed. Using rails 3.0.0.beta and full project is on github. Summary of models and form: class Project < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :tasks accepts_nested_attributes_for :tasks end class Task < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :project has_many :assignments accepts_nested_attributes_for :assignments end class Assignment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :task end form_for(@project) do |f| Project: f.text_field :name f.fields_for :tasks do |task_form| Task: task_form.text_field :name task_form.fields_for :assignments do |assignment_form| Assignment: assignment_form.text_field :name end end f.submit end

  • implementing user tracking (logging) in Rails 3

    - by seth.vargo
Hi, I'm creating a Rails application in which logging individual user actions is vital. Every time a user clicks a url, I want to log the action along with all parameters. Here is my current implementation: class CreateActivityLogs < ActiveRecord::Migration create_table :activity_logs do |t| t.references :user t.string :ip_address t.string :referring_url t.string :current_url t.text :params t.text :action t.timestamps end end   class ActivityLog < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end In a controller, I'd like to be able to do something like the following: ... ActivityLog::log @user.id, params, 'did foo with bar' ... I'd like to have the ActivityLog::log method automatically get the IP address, referring url, and current url (I know how to do this already) and create a new record in the table. So, my questions are: How do I do this? How do I use ActivityLog without having to create an instance everytime I want to log? Is this the best way? Some people have argued for a flat-file log for this kind of logging - however, I want admins to be able to see a user's activity in the backend as well, so I thought a database solution may be better?

  • RoR: Condition Always False - Why?

    - by Matt Hollingsworth
Working in RoR 2.3.x. My quiz_results table has a row for user_id (3907) and result (0.1), and two users I'm looking at with no rows in the quiz_results table. This line keeps returining false: -if QuizResult.find_by_user_id(@user_id).present? But if I change it to anything that returns true, the next line reports an error on the * method: ="#{(QuizResult.average('score', :conditions => 'user_id = #{@user.id}') * 100).round}%" The beginning of the code is a loop: [email protected] do |user| Any ideas how to fix? Have tried unsuccessfully all day.

  • NoMethodError when using .where (eager fetching)

    - by Ethan Leroy
I have the following model classes... class Image < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :description, :title has_many :imageTags has_many :tags, :through => :imageTags end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name has_many :imageTags has_many :images, :through => :imageTags end class ImageTag < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :position belongs_to :image belongs_to :tag end And when I use find for getting the Tag with the id 1 t = Tag.find(1); @images = t.images; But when I do the same with where, I get a NoMethodError, with the description undefined method 'images': t = Tag.where(:name => "foo"); @images = t.images; I also tried adding .includes(:images) before the .where statement, but that doesn't work too. So, how can I get all Images that belong to a Tag?

  • Creating nested fields for column on assignment table?

    - by H O
I have three models, that represent a many to many relationship - Product, Sale and Product_sale. I have a nested form that allows me to create new products from the sale form - so far, so good. I have, however, added some additional fields to the assignment table - price, for example. How can I set the price on the assignment table from the product form, when it is nested in the sale form? I currently have the code below: <%= sale.fields_for :products do |products_builder| %> <%= render :partial => "products/form", :locals => {:f => products_builder, :form_actions_visible => false} %> <% end -%> I could nest a Product_sale form within the product form, but this would create a new product_sale, which is not what I am looking for. I will most likely need to nest the price field within the product form, to ensure that it updates the correct assignment record (since there could be multiple products on one sale form). How can I use a fields_for loop on the product form to update the existing assignment record that is built when I do @sale.products.build? The assignment record will not yet be saved, so I can not access it using a where clause and edit it that way. Thanks!

  • problem using 'as_json' in my model and 'render :json' => in my controller (rails)

    - by patrick
Hi everyone. I am trying to create a unique json data structure, and I have run into a problem that I can't seem to figure out. In my controller, I am doing: favorite_ids = Favorites.all.map(&:photo_id) data = { :albums => PhotoAlbum.all.to_json, :photos => Photo.all.to_json(:favorite => lambda {|photo| favorite_ids.include?(photo.id)}) } render :json => data and in my model: def as_json(options = {}) { :name => self.name, :favorite => options[:favorite].is_a?(Proc) ? options[:favorite].call(self) : options[:favorite] } end The problem is, rails encodes the values of 'photos' & 'albums' (in my data hash) as JSON twice, and this breaks everything... The only way I could get this to work is if I call 'as_json' instead of 'to_json': data = { :albums => PhotoAlbum.all.as_json, :photos => Photo.all.as_json(:favorite => lambda {|photo| favorite_ids.include?(photo.id)}) } However, when I do this, my :favorite = lambda option no longer makes it into the model's as_json method.......... So, I either need a way to tell 'render :json' not to encode the values of the hash so I can use 'to_json' on the values myself, or I need a way to get the parameters passed into 'as_json' to actually show up there....... I hope someone here can help... Thanks!

  • Rails 4 testing bug?

    - by Jamato
Situation: if we add two identic line items into a cart, we update line item quantity instead of adding a duplicate. In browser everything works fine but in unit testing section something fails because of an empty cycle in code. Which I wanted to use to update all prices. Why? Is that a unit test engine bug? LineItem.all and cart.line_items in process of testing produce two DIFFERENT structures. #<LineItem id: 980190964, product_id: 1, cart_id: 999, created_at: "2014-06-01 00:21:28", updated_at: "2014-06-01 00:21:28", quantity: 2, price: #<BigDecimal:ba0fb544,'0.4E1',9(27)>> #<LineItem id: 980190964, product_id: 1, cart_id: 999, created_at: "2014-06-01 00:21:28", updated_at: "2014-06-01 00:21:28", quantity: 1, price: #<BigDecimal:ba0d1b04,'0.4E1',9(27)>> cart.line_items guy did not update quantity Code itself (produces LineItem which is then saved in line_item_controller which calls this method) class Cart < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :line_items, dependent: :destroy def add_product(product_id) # LOOK THIS CYCLE BREAKS UNIT TEST, SRSLY, I MEAN IT line_items.each do |item| end current_item = line_items.find_by(product_id: product_id) fresh_price = Product.find_by(id: product_id).price if current_item current_item.quantity += 1 else current_item = line_items.build(product_id: product_id, price: fresh_price) end return current_item end ... Unit test code test "non-unique item added" do cart = Cart.new(:id => 999) line_item0 = cart.add_product(2) line_item0.save line_item1 = cart.add_product(1) line_item1.save assert_equal 2, cart.line_items.size #success line_item2 = cart.add_product(1) line_item2.save assert_equal 2, cart.line_items.size, "what?" assert cart.total_price > 15 #fail, prices are not enough, quantity of product1 = 1 #we get total price from quantity, it's a simple method in model end And once again: IT DOES WORK in browser as it should. Even with cycle. I feel so dumb right now...

  • undefined method `new_record?' for nil:NilClass

    - by TopperH
    In rails 3.2 I created a post controller. Each post can have a different number of paperclip attachments. To achieve this I created a assets model where each asset has a paperclip attachment. One post has_many assets and assets belong_to post. Asset model class Asset < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :post has_attached_file :photo, :styles => { :thumb => "200x200>" } end Post model class Post < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :content, :title has_many :assets, :dependent => :destroy validates_associated :assets after_update :save_assets def new_asset_attributes=(asset_attributes) asset_attributes.each do |attributes| assets.build(attributes) end end def existing_asset_attributes=(asset_attributes) assets.reject(&:new_record?).each do |asset| attributes = asset_attributes[asset.id.to_s] if attributes asset.attributes = attributes else asset.delete(asset) end end end def save_assets assets.each do |asset| asset.save(false) end end end Posts helper module PostsHelper def add_asset_link(name) link_to_function name do |post| post.insert_html :bottom, :assets, :partial => 'asset', :object => Asset.new end end end Form for post <%= form_for @post, :html => { :multipart => true } do |f| %> <% if @post.errors.any? %> <div id="error_explanation"> <h2><%= pluralize(@post.errors.count, "error") %> prohibited this post from being saved:</h2> <ul> <% @post.errors.full_messages.each do |msg| %> <li><%= msg %></li> <% end %> </ul> </div> <% end %> <div class="field"> <%= f.label :title %><br /> <%= f.text_field :title %> </div> <div class="field"> <%= f.label :content %><br /> <%= f.text_area :content %> </div> <div id="assets"> Attach a file or image<br /> <%= render 'asset', :collection => @post.assets %> </div> <div class="actions"> <%= f.submit %> </div> <% end %> Asset partial <div class="asset"> <% new_or_existing = asset.new_record? ?
