Some of the new features include official support for durable Virtual Machines with high availability (cross-geographic replication), free WebSites to try Azure, MySQL database at no charge, a new distributed low-latency cache feature, Linux support, support with existing VPN hardware for seamless on-premise integration, a new partner ecosystem and much, much more. Amazon had an edge against Windows Azure in the IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) space, until now. With the latest release from Microsoft Azure, the gap has been filled. In fact, it seems Amazon may now have a gap to fill… This is great news to everyone; it seems that cloud offerings are becoming more standardized with the more mature cloud providers, and the management stack and quality of service of each cloud provider is increasingly becoming the differentiator. With today’s announcements, it is becoming clear that cloud providers are pushing hard to increase their service footprint and lowering typical barriers to entry such as support for open-source operating systems, free trial offers, higher availability, faster deployment times and simpler enterprise integration.

• Trying to install PHP 5.2 on IIS/Win 2008 - Error 500

  I have a fresh install of IIS 7 - I just added Web Platform Installer, and PHP 5.2 thru that. However, when trying to access to a simple test.php file (just has phpinfo() in it), I get the following list of errors: • IIS was not able to access the web.config file for the Web site or application. This can occur if the NTFS permissions are set incorrectly. • IIS was not able to process configuration for the Web site or application. • The authenticated user does not have permission to use this DLL. • The request is mapped to a managed handler but the .NET Extensibility Feature is not installed. The domain was created with dot net panel, but I don't think that has to do with this problem, unless maybe it uses a specific user? Maybe I need to add php thruough dot net panel? Any idea of what I'm doing wrong here?

  I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 + IIS 7.0. I have created a new web site and put an html file into the directory. And when I use browse function in IIS manager to browse the html file, I met with the following error, any ideas what is wrong? BTW: I am very confused about unauthorized error since I run the worker process under administrator account. From the error message, I am confused why the logon method is anonymous and not using administrator account? • How to install a new PHP extension on IIS 7.5

  I have installed PHP 5.2.13 through Web Platform Installer on IIS 7.5/windows 2008 R2 Now I'm trying to install additional PHP extensions, such as mcrypt, so I downloaded the compiled .zip file from the php windows binaries site. I put the relevant dlls in the extensions folder, and added the lines in the php.ini: [PHP_MCRYPT] extension=php_mcrypt.dll After restarting IIS, no application was working. This was with VC6 compiled/non thread-safe compiled version of PHP 5.2.13 .zip package. I also tried with the thread-safe version, which prevented IIS to restart and forced me to reboot the server. What am I doing wrong here?

• Bad IIS 7.5 performance on webserver

  I have a webpage (ASP.NET 4.0 / MVC 4). On my development machine (i5-2500 3.3 8GB Win7 VS2010 SP1 Fujitsu Esprimo P700) the page performs with 160 requests/sec on devenv webserver on my machine. The page performs with 250 requests/sec on my local IIS 7.5. (uncompiled web) The page performs with 20 requests per second on a 16core 32gb ram production server (Fujitsu RX-300 w2k8 rc2 IIS 7.5). (compiled web) Why? I think it's the IIS configuration but i can't figure out whats the problem. The page runs with 1 worker process on both machines. Web garden is not an option (it helps but the app isnt compatible with)

  Issues you may run into while using Visual Studio need to be reported to the Microsoft Product Team via the Microsoft connect site. The Microsoft team then tries to reproduce the issue using the details provided by you. If the information you provide isn’t sufficient to reproduce the issue the team tries to contact you for specifics, this not only increases the cycle time to resolution but the lack of communication also results in issues not being resolved. So, when I report an issue one part of me tells me to include as much detail about the issue as I can clubbing screen shots, repo steps, system information, visual studio version information,… the other half tells me this is so time consuming, leave it for now and come back to fill all these details later. Reporting a bug but not including the supporting information is an invitation to excuses like …     Microsoft has absolutely changed this experience for VS 2012. The Microsoft Visual Studio Feedback tool is designed to simplify the process of providing feedback and reporting issues to Microsoft that you may encounter while using Microsoft Visual Studio 2012. Note – The Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Feedback client currently only works for VS 2012 and not any other versions of Visual Studio. Setting up the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Feedback client Open Visual Studio, from the Tools menu select Extension and Updates. After you do this, two files are attached to your bug report - an AutomaticCrashDump.zip file that contains information about the crash and a ReproSteps.zip file that shows the repro steps. Repro steps are captured by Windows Problem Steps Recorder. Note that, you can pause the recording, and resume later, or for a specific step, you can add additional comments. When "Hang" is the bug type: The process for recording the steps that cause a hang resembles the one for crashes. The difference is, you can even collect a dump file after the VS hangs; start the VSFT either from the system tray or by starting a new instance of VS, select "Hang" as feedback type and click on the "Record" button. You will be prompted which VS to collect dump about, select the VS instance that hanged. VSFT collects a dump file regarding the hang, called MiniDump.zip, and attaches to your bug report. When "Other" is the bug type: When the problem step recorder starts, perform the actions that show the issue you want to report and then choose the "Stop” button. You can pause the recording, and resume later, or for a specific step, you can add additional comments. Once you’re done, ReproSteps.zip is added to your bug report. Pre-attached files It is essential for Microsoft to know what version of the the product are you currently using and what is the current configuration of your system. Note – The total size of all attachments in a bug report cannot exceed 2 GB, and every uncompressed attachment must be smaller than 512 MB. We recommend that you assemble all of your attachments, compress them together into a .zip file, and then attach the .zip file. • Created a new zone in DNS manager - can't get site bindings to work in iis 7

  Firstly I would like to say that I am a noob when it comes to DNS, I am a web developer and I am trying to setup an intranet site for a charity. I have windows server 2008 and I installed both iis 7 and dns manager. In IIS I have this binding that works - Type: http:// IP Address: 192.168.1.9 Port: 80 Host name: My host name is empty and when I try to navigate to this website on the network, the http code is 200 and the page renders. Now if I try Host name of test.organization.intranet Internet explorer says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and the server response is aborted. In DNS manager I created a new forward lookup zone of organization.intranet I did this through the configure a dns server wizard and I created a host (A) with the same IP as the one being used in IIS. The full Host name is test.organization.intranet but it doesn't work. Maybe I am missing something obvious because it's not an area of IT that I know very well, but I am stuck for why I can't get it to work.

• Problem in domain name of site in google search [on hold]

  My domain provider dont supports advanced DNS at this moment. So I have used iframe to forward to my webserver. Suppose my domain abc.com have a simple html which is opening xyz.com via Iframe. Google was showing abc.com on the search. But from last two days it is showing xyz.com, other things like description, name of the site are ok only the domain changed to xyz.com, but I want to show abc.com. When I'm typing the full domain then google showing the domain as I want. But If I type a part or any keyword then it showing that xyz.com. Anyone have any idea how to show abc.com again? EDIT: I dont know the domain name provider because its not mine. When I'm trying to set new A record its showing that "you need advanced dns to do this currently you are using simple DNS". I'm doing this from cpanel. Normally as per I know there are 3 sections. 1 domain name 2 A record 3Cname. But I dont have any domain name section.

Case 1 When I Google for my site at google.com in Iron SWR (safe Chrome version) and I click the first link I get the correct page. Case 2 When I Google for my site at google.nl in Iron SWR (safe Chrome version) and I click the first link Google will redirect me to a spam site. Case 3 When I Google for my site in Google Chrome and I click the first link Google will redirect me to a spam site. Case 4 When I Google for my site in FireFox and I click the first link Google will redirect me to a spam site. Case 5 When I Google for my site in Internet Explorer and I click the first link Google will redirect me a page that tells me the site is offline. HELP WHAT TO DO? I checked the .htaccess but this file is correct. I checked the index.php file but this one is also correct. What can I do? Hacked or does Google has trouble?

• The whole site is blocked while one page is waiting for blocking operation (PHP, ASP.NET). Why?

  Good day! I've found interesting behaviour for both LAMP stack and ASP.NET. The scenario: There is page performing task in 2-3 minutes (making HttpWebRequest for ASP.NET and curl for PHP). While this page is processed all other requests to this virtual host from the same browser are not processed (even if I use different browsers from one machine). I use two pages written in PHP and C#. I've tested with Apache+PHP in both mod_php and fast_cgi modes on Windows and Debian. For ASP.NET I use IIS6 (with dedicated app pool for this site and with default app pool) and IIS7 in integrated mode. I know that it is better to use async calls for such things, but I'm just curious why single page blocks the entire site and not only the thread processing the request? Thanks in advance!

• Installing WindowsAuthentication breaks authentication / web.config?

  I have a clean Windows 2008 R2 box (on a VM) and have installed IIS 7.5 with default options. I then copied a website to it (from Windows 7, IIS 7) and after a little tweaking the website is working fine. The website is currently using and working with Anonymous Authentication. I have gone back to the Windows Components/Sever Manager, Roles - Security and ticked and installed Windows Authentication. When I check my server in IIS (top level above sites) - Authentication, I see Anonymous Authentication (enabled) ASP.NET Impersonation (disabled) Forms Authentication (disbaled) Windows Authentication (enabled) When I check my default website - Authentication, I see as above but "Retrieving status" and an error dialog saying There was an error while performing this operation. Details: Filename c:\inetpub\wwwroot\screwturnwiki\web.config Line number: 96 Error: This configuration section cannot be used in this path. This happens when the section is being locked at the parent level. Locking is either by default (overriderModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicity by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="False". I have tried hand editing the web.config with no success. (How to use locking in IIS7 Configuration) UN-installing Windows Authentication happily returns my site to working with Anonymous Authentication, and allows me to enable/disable these three options. FYI. I am using ScrewTurnWiki with the Active Directory plug in. • Disable integrated client certificate validation in IIS7?

  We have an IIS 7 hosted site that requires client certificates (two-way ssl). Unfortunately, I don't have access to the trusted certificate store on the host machines, and so I was forced to write a custom http module to verify the certificates. My module never gets a chance to do the authentication, however, because IIS doesn't recognize the certificates and responds with a 403.7 error. How do I turn off client certificate validation, while still requiring clients to provide them?

We are thinking there may be some memory optimization opportunities with some of these session state variables potentially consuming large amounts of RAM.   I've installed Wordpress on IIS, Running on Windows 7 (64Bit). Rest of the site is working perfectly. Except when I try upload images into media. I then get this error message "sample.jpg" has failed to upload due to an error Missing a temporary folder I have edited the php.ini file to point to a directory : D:\work\websites\mySite Saved that and done an IIS reset. Problem still persists. Any ideas what is wrong?

• User given a login prompt when closing Word documents after viewing them in IE7

  When using IE7 to view Word documents on our CRM system (an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 and using Windows authenticaton) I'm finding that a prompt appears when the user closes the document. The Word document is originally opened by clicking a link in the CRM system. Are there permissions that I can set on the folder containing the Word documents to prevent this prompt? I've already tried only allowing the Read permission for the Users group (I've left Administrators with Full Control.) If there's another solution to this without using permissions please let me know. UPDATE: I ran Fiddler as suggested by JD and here is the output from the two responses after the request for the document. The first seems to be a DAV response and the second is the authentication request. How do I prevent the DAV response and just return the .doc on the server? I should point out that I'm not using FPSE, unlike the person in the forum post. Ideally I don't want to have to put the documents in a separate virtual directory, but this is the simplest solution I've found so far.

• Windows Server 2003: smtp and ftp services keep shutting down after a while

  If I go into the IIS manager and start ftp and smtp, after about an hour or so they will have been shutdown. There is nothing in the event viewer to explain why they would shut down. IIS webserver continues to run with no problem. I don't see any options in their configuration that would cause this. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this?

• How to integrate a mirror WS without client reconfiguration?

  I have a web service hosted by IIS server 1 and another web service hosted by IIS server 2. Is there a way to have the WS on server 2 automatically pick up when the WS on server 1 is unavailable, without having to reconfigure the clients (which are desktop applications in this case). Note: I don't want to do use IIS Manager. We have tried IP blocking at our firewall, but this becomes to manage the block lists. Also, we have used IIS-handlers, however that complicates our web applications. Is anyone familiar with network appliances, firewalls or application services (say for IIS) that can reduce or eliminate the content scrapers?
