This opens in a new window (replacing the old window): window.location = url; This opens in the same tab window.content.document.location = url Any idea on how to open the url in a new tab?

    I have a input[type="text"] the that has padding applied to it behaves differently in firefox PC then on a mac. Any hacks that can target firefox PC?   • Google chrome, native client support and development

    Hey guys, I would like to write a small C++ app and run it on chrome using the native client API. I have a few questions though: 1) I compiled the examples on Ubuntu and ran the code on firefox but can't run it on chrome (using version 5.0.342.7 beta) Do I need to install something? An extension/plugin? 2) I can't find a single online application I could run? Links anyone, I want to see the power of this thing without having to compile the code locally.   • Why is Firefox so bloated? [closed]

    First off I am a developer who loves firebug and other development tools (and no Chrome firebug lite does not cut it) and am just utterly frustrated when I have been using Firefox lately. It is at the point where I use Chrome for absolutely everything but web development but am still frustrated that I had to switch where half a year ago or more Firefox was fine. Why can't there be a Firefox lite? One that is free from all the bloat that has been plaguing Firefox recently. Also if there are any tools or tips that I can free up my Firefox that would be great. I am using the newest version + as few add-ons as possible. EDIT: I have tried Chrome Developer Tools and I do like them...but I can't get passed the firebug lite extension of Chrome. Some of the developer tools are great but sometimes they just have too much information. I extensively use Firebug/myphp admin. Both of these work much much better in Firefox then Chrome. But I hate that it takes me so much longer to load and use everything.

  • Chrome targeted CSS

    I have some CSS code that hides the cursor on a web page (it is a client facing static screen with no interaction). The code I use to do this is below: *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blank.cur'), pointer; } Blank.cur is a totally blank cursor file. This code works perfectly well in all browsers when I host the web files on my local server but when I upload to a Windows CE webserver (our production unit) the cursor represents itself as a black box. Odd. After some testing it seems that chrome only has a problem with totally blank cursor files when served from WinCE web server, so I created a blank cursor with one pixel as white, specifically for chrome. How do I then target this CSS rule to chrome specifically? i.e. *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blank.cur'), pointer; } <!--[if CHROME]> *, html { cursor: url('/web/resources/graphics/blankChrome.cur'), pointer; } <![endif]-->

  • CSS3 new features...whats the point?

    I've been reading a lot of ways recently of how to avoid having to use Photoshop for things like gradients and shadows on buttons, when you can use CSS3 Box Shadow for such features. Now this is great, but obviously legacy browsers and most IE browsers don't yet implement CSS3 features, so my question is, why save yourself extra work in Photoshop when you can use CSS3 but then HAVE to use Photoshop for other browsers to see the desired effects? Isn't that just extra work?

  • Letter spacing issue with 'overlapping' character

    I'm having some trouble with a font I found on Google Web Fonts. As you can see in the image posted below, the capital V in 'Versus' overlaps with the 'e' when i'm using Firefox. Though when i'm using Chrome (or IE) it does not overlap and leaves me with an ugly space between the two characters. Is there any way to fix this and make it look like the one in Firefox? Or should I start looking for another font?   • Why do firefox/chrome show a different page than IE8?

    When I look at this published Google Docs document, I see the latest version with Firefox and Chrome, but an older version with IE8. Also, screen-scraping it via PHP/Curl gives me an older version. I've tried CTRL-Refresh in IE8 but I can't get it to show me the newest version. No matter what headers I try to change in PHP/Curl, I can't get it to show me the newest version. What am I not understanding about browsers/headers/caching here? How can it be that different browsers show different contents of one page?

  • How to get flash player to display under content on a PC?

    Long story short, I'm developing a theme template for a blog that enables you to view the posts in blocks. The main part of the post is displayed at first, then the secondary content is displayed over that when you hover over the post block. Everything works fine on a Mac Versions of all major browsers, but start browsing on a PC, and all hell breaks loose when you start trying to display content over Flash Video embeds. The flash element remains visible over the content. It's completely unusable. From a PC, you can view an example of the problem here: http://photorific.tumblr.com I'm almost certain this is a bug in the Flash Plugin for Windows, but I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem before, and if there were any solutions. This problem has presented itself for a while now and any help would be really, really, really appreciated!

Now, if want to add a "private method" do() to test() It is not working anymore, in neither Firefox/Chrome console nor in a Greasemonkey script: var script = document.createElement("script"); script.textContent = ( function test() { var a = 1; var do = function () { var b = 2; }; } ); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); alert(document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].lastChild.textContent); To make this work in a Greasemonkey script, I have to put all the code in a CDATA tag block: var script = document.createElement("script"); script.textContent = (<![CDATA[ function test() { var a = 1; var do = function() { var b = 2; }; } ]]>); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); alert(document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].lastChild.textContent); This is only works in a Greasemonkey script; it throws an error from the Firefox/Chrome console. EDIT: My bad, I've never used do-while in JS and I've created this example in a simple text editor, so I didn't see "do" was a reserved keyword :p But problem is still here, I've not initialized the Javascript class in my examples.   • Is there a way to enable Unicode characters in all browsers on Windows XP?

    I'd like to use unicode symbols within my website (especially Dingbats). Is there any way to enable this inside all (or at least some) browsers in Windows XP, without having the user to adjust any of his settings? I use the HTML5 doctype with the charset configured to UTF-8: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> </head> <body></body> </html> The browsers recognize the charset correctly (even IE7). But no special characters are displayed. I only see an empty square box. This is the case for all of the following browsers: IE7, Safari 4, Firefox 3.5, Chrome 4.1, Opera 10.51. So, is there any way to configure to enable all (or most) unicode characters for browsers running on Windows XP?

    I have a survey web-app that is public facing. I want to set up automated testing with Selenium, but selenium can't capture javascript alerts that we're currently using on the site. I'm thinking about changing our user-facing error notifications to some web 2.0 javascript library so that it is accessible to Selenium. However, I'm not sure how many of our users would be able to experience them properly. How backwards-compatible do I need to be in the present day? I have collected a database of actual user-agent strings of our users. I asked here how I could group them into meaningful data about what browsers our users are actually using.

  • main content wrapper div get's pushed down the page in IE

    I have a 2 column layout, with the left side for navigation and the right side for the main content. The right side content has a wrapper div that looks like: Now this looks fine in FF and GC, and it IE but if I change the padding to anything over 4px that section gets pushed down below the left navigation. #content { padding:3px; // 4 makes it get pushed down } Does this mean IE has a different way of calculating the width of all my elements? Is this a common problem that has a solution for it?
