  • Is the W3 standard a major factor when google decides SERP position?

    I have a dynamic php website which index only has around 800 errors according to the w3 validator online. I have tried checking major websites like ebay, stackoverflow and others also, all with around 400 errors. So my first thought is, what good is that validator when it always displays errors? Secondly, will the errors affect my SERP ranking? ie, will me fixing these errors as good as I can increase my Google search position? Thanks

  • In what situations does Flash SWF misbehaves in different browsers.

    Hi, Recently I had some issues with Flash in IE, involving a SWF which is something like a gallery. In Firefox its loads perfectly, but in IE it doesn't work properly sometimes. The first time it is loaded its works fine but when I refresh all the images are blank. The image data came from XML. I wish to get some tips regarding the browsers and Flash / SWF behavior in each.   • javascript "window.history.forward(1);" not working.

    Hi, I'm trying to prevent the back button from working on one of my asp.net mvc pages. I've read a couple of places that if i put "window.history.forward(1);" in my page it will prevent the back button from working on a given page. This is what I did in my page: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { window.history.forward(1); }); </script> It doesn't seem to be working. Am I using this incorrectly or is this approach wrong? thanks.

    I have a form on my website. When this form is filled out, it is then validated by a javascript validation function. At the bottom of this function I have this piece of code: window.location="../index.html"; This wont work on Chrome, but does work in Firefox. My Q is, how can I make this simple redirect work on all (most) browsers? Thanks

  • Getting URL of executing JavaScript file (IE6-7 problem mostly)...

    Hey all, I've been trying to throw together a generic function that retrieves the absolute URL of an executing JavaScript file on a web page: http://gist.github.com/433486 It works great in almost all the browsers I've tested (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera v10 at least, and IE 8). It seems to fail, however, in IE 6 and 7. The callback function gets executed, but the retrieved name is simple the URL to the main HTML page, not the JavaScript file. So all I'm really asking is if there's some other way of getting the URL of the current JavaScript file (which could be IE 6 and 7 specific)? Thanks in advance!

When the button is clicked, on: on Chrome (and Safari of course) it just doesn't select anything, instead creates some ghostly empty option on Firefox and Opera, it works the way I expect and want it to work, resets the element value on Explorer, it does nothing So, which one is expected behaviour?     Guys I have a couple of questions: Is there a preformance difference in Javascript between a switch statement and an if...else if....else? If so why? Is the behavior of switch and if...else if...else different across browsers? (FireFox, IE, Chrome, Opera, Safari) The reason for asking this question is it seems that I get better preformance on a switch statement with approx 100 cases in Firefox. But in IE it get better preformance with 100 if...else if...else.

  • supervisord launches with wrong setuid

    I am trying to test a pilot system with nginx connecting to uwsgi served application controlled by supervisord running on ubuntu-server. Application is written in python with Flask in virtualenv, although I'm not sure if that is relevant. To test the system I have created a simple hello world with flask. I want nginx and uwsgi both to run as www-data user. If I launch uwsgi "manually" from root shell I can see uwsgi processes runing as appropriate user (www-data). Although, if I let supervisor launch the application something strange happens - uwsgi processes are runing under my user (friendzis). Consequently, socket file gets created under wrong user and nginx cannot communicate with my applicaion. note: the linux server runs as Hyper-V VM, under Windows Server 2008. Relevant configuration: [uwsgi] socket = /var/www/sockets/cowsay.sock chmod-socket = 666 abstract-socket = false master = true workers = 2 uid = www-data gid = www-data chdir = /var/www/cowsay/cowsay pp = /var/www/cowsay/cowsay pyhome = /var/www/cowsay module = cowsay callable = app supervisor [program:cowsay] command = /var/www/cowsay/bin/uwsgi -s /var/www/sockets/cowsay.sock -w cowsay:app directory = /var/www/cowsay/cowsay user = www-data autostart = true autorestart = true stdout_logfile = /var/www/cowsay/log/supervisor.log redirect_stderr = true stopsignal = QUIT I'm sure I'm missing some minor detail, but I'm unable to notice it.
