    I have a large module written in JS which uses Canvas to draw and animate trees. This module was written for a product which is now being migrated to flex. Is there a way in flex to embed this JS module as is? Or would I have to rewrite the whole module in AS3 (shudder)? Further, if embedding is possible, would user interactions (mouse clicks) etc. work seamlessly? An example of the tree structure I am talking about can be found here - http://thejit.org

  • using moogaloop to embed a custom video player from Vimeo

    Anyone have any luck using Vimeo's moogaloop player? I'm wanting to use Vimeo's supposed API functions to create custom buttons to control the Vimeo player on my site. Here's the reference page for moogaloop: http://vimeo.com/api/docs/moogaloop I've been able to get the player to embed using SWFObject, but I can't seem to get the API functions to work (e.g. api_play()).   • actionscript flex, how to send browser width to the swf itself

    I'm working with flex, but actionscript ideas are just as good. The flex <s:Application> tag has height="100%" width="100%" so the swf fits the browser as the browser gets resized. My problem is that I have a <s:Label> that I need to position based on the real/current size of the browser. <s:Application height="100%" width="100%"> ..... <s:Label text="hello" x="?" y=">" /> </s:Application> I heard it's possible to use Application.application.width; but I get a compile error, that it doesn't know what that is. Any ideas how to do this. I'm trying to get the current size of the swf in the browser, as the browser resizes.

  • viewstack causing error 1065 variable not defined issue?

    I've got an flex application where I have a left side TREE control and a viewstack on the right and when someone selects the tree it loads the named viewstack based on the hidden node value of the XML of the tree. But it's throwing a error 1065 variable not defined on a viewstack which worked on the last browser refresh/reload. It's not related to a particular viewstack from what I can tell it just seems to throw the error on certain render events.     Hi, I making a game leaderboard on facebook. I'm not using connect but working inside the canvas. When I try to load the images from facebook it gives me the following error. SecurityError: Error #2122: Security sandbox violation: Loader.content: http://test cannot access http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/v22941/254/15/q652310588_2173.jpg A policy file is required, but the checkPolicyFile flag was not set when this media was loaded.   • Can't create flex4 project in flexbuilder using remoting or LiveCycle Data Servcies ES

    I'm trying out the FlasBuilder ide with ColdFusion 8 on OS X. When I try to create a new project, I get stuck at the server setup screen that forces you to validate your paths for your ColdFusion root folder and your webroot. Every combination I try says either "LiveCycle Data Services is not installed at the specified location" or "Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml." The flex-config.xml file is sitting in that directory. Is there some trick to getting this to work?

    Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way for a SWF to check at runtime whether it is running as an online SWF or an AIR app? I need to use the same SWF to run both online and locally, however when running as an AIR app, external assets are located in a different directory. I'd like to check whether a SWF is local or online so I can change the source path for external assets accordingly. Thanks, Sandro Edit: I just realized this might be a dumb question. :) I may just use flashvars to tell the SWF that it is running within an AIR app.

    Hello all. I have a serious problem in my flex client applications. I have an apache server with php web services. the flex client makes an httpservice requests. I noticed that the httpservice requests that runs from the creationComplete event of the application does not always get data from the server. but HTTPservice requests called from user actions always work.   • loading child swf as3

    Hi, I've been given an fla to make some changes too. Basically its a fairly long timeline animation with sound. So far I've successfully added a few button functions for sound etc.. but one has got me stumped. One of the buttons needs to load a child swf. I'm using the code below but I'm recieving an error - 'Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference'.   • AS3 Memory Conservation (Loaders/BitmapDatas/Bitmaps/Sprites)

    I'm working on reducing the memory requirements of my AS3 app. I understand that once there are no remaining references to an object, it is flagged as being a candidate for garbage collection. Is it even worth it to try to remove references to Loaders that are no longer actively in use? My first thought is that it is not worth it. Here's why: My Sprites need perpetual references to the Bitmaps they display (since the Sprites are always visible in my app). So, the Bitmaps cannot be garbage collected. The Bitmaps rely upon BitmapData objects for their data, so we can't get rid of them. (Up until this point it's all pretty straightforward). Here's where I'm unsure of what's going on: Does a BitmapData have a reference to the data loaded by the Loader? In other words, is BitmapData essentially just a wrapper that has a reference to loader.content, or is the data copied from loader.content to BitmapData? If a reference is maintained, then I don't get anything by garbage collecting my loaders... Thoughts?

I saw some people put all modules in one view stack ,and so the application interface is only load once, but when the application get larger, the whole compiled swf would be very big. If we put swfs in different pages, we pass request parameters through HTTP request, we lost the benefits from flex RPC services, slow loading, and we can't see any superior comparing to php,asp,jsp... what's the best practice to organize front end architecture?
