• Issues with ganglia and upstart in 13.04

  I'm having an issue with ganglia-monitor and upstart. Just after installing it starts and it cannot be stopped. I tried to solve it following http://upstart.ubuntu.com/cookbook/#expect but I can achieve upstart to track the actual pid of gmond. Assuming the configuration of the init config is wrong i followed direcetions in http://upstart.ubuntu.com/cookbook/#how-to-establish-fork-count in order to try to fix it. As it states a count of 1 means "exec fork" stanza and 2 means "exec daemon" .... gmond gives a count of 8... And of course I can get it to track the actual PID. I haven't found a bug report or something like that. Is there something I missed ? Upstart seems to be failing and the worst thing is that upstart hangs on start/stop and I cannot even uninstall or reconfigure packages.

• Logkeys fragile?

  The program logkeys (which seems to be the only keylogger for linux out there which I can run) has some problems, it stops logging after some time, never returns again, I don't know how to trigger that bug, if the file is edited while logging, it just stops, if the file exists before logging it doesn't try to append to it or delete it or anything, the first issue is the most important but the rest are quite annoying can anyone help me because I'm not a linux programmer (I don't really know anything about the linux API but I am a beginner C++ programmer) and I won't be able to make my own keylogger thanks for the interest BTW I'm sure I got the right input device because it starts logging then stops and I use the command "logkeys -s -u -d /dev/input/event3 -o '/home/ahmed/Documents/log.txt'"

• Wine can't find gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so

  I'm trying to update my Ubuntu system, but cannot do anything with the Update Manager. It loads up 3/4 of the way and then says: Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:The package google-chrome-stable:i386 needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.' Also ubuntu software center will not open and keeps crashing. This is very annoying as I can't install or update anything.

• Error 255 samba share simple file share Ubuntu 14.04

  I have been using simple file share on Ubuntu 12.04 for several years not a problem now I have up graded to 14.04 all the problems error 255, tried all sights to fix the problem nothing works even went back to 12.04 still the same problem error 255 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "Everyone" to a SID. The connection was refused. Maybe smbd is not running. There appears to be a bug with the new upgrade or has there been a new upgrade. Thanks for any help would be appreciated.

• New Release of ROracle posted to CRAN

  Oracle recently updated ROracle to version 1.1-2 on CRAN with enhancements and bug fixes. The major enhancements include the introduction of Oracle Wallet Manager and support for datetime and interval types.  Oracle Wallet support in ROracle allows users to manage public key security from the client R session. Oracle Wallet allows passwords to be stored and read by Oracle Database, allowing safe storage of database login credentials. In addition, we added support for datetime and interval types when selecting data, which expands ROracle's support for date data.  See the ROracle NEWS for the complete list of updates.   If a company takes a permissively licensed open source application and then develops a closed source application from that by reworking extensive parts of the application, adding new features and applying bug fixes... Ignoring any license requirements... How does the transition happen and what can be done to prevent it beyond choosing a difference license? What are the (ethical or social) responsibilities for the company? (For example: Giving back to the open source project would be the ethical thing to do) If the open source version and closed source version are both available, how does the competition affect either product? Are there any examples of companies or products that have done this (either successfully or unsuccessfully) in the past? What was the community attitude toward those projects?

• Empathy chat limits the number of contacts displayed?

  I'm using Empathy Chat with these accounts: GTalk & Facebook. I just noticed now that from my GTalk friends only 6 appear online (including me) and in reality online are 14 (checked on GMail). And from Facebook it displays 44. So is Empathy Chat limited to display only 50 contacts? I looked through the settings and didn't see anything like this :| The worst part is that I have 1 GTalk contact as Favorite and it's not in the list... Is it a bug? PS: I'm using Ubuntu 10.10

• Long pause in pxe/preseed install

  I'm encountering a long pause during unattended (preseeded) install of precise server via pxe. The install eventually works, but appears to just sit there for 20 or 30 minutes after it authenticates the mirror. There is nothing in the logs during this time, even with full debug. • Unknown CSS font-family oddity with IE7-10 on Win Vista-8

  I am seeing the following "oddity" with IE7-10 on Win Vista-8: When declaring font-family: serif; I am seeing an old bitmapped serif font that I can't identify (see screenshot below) instead of the expected font Times New Roman. I know it's an old bitmapped font because it displays aliased, without any font smoothing, with IE7-10 on Win Vista-8 (just like Courier on every version of Win). Screenshot: I would like to know (1) can anyone else confirm my research and (2) BONUS: which font is IE displaying? Notes: IE6 and IE7 on Win XP displays Times New Roman, as they should. It doesn't matter if font-family: serif; is declared in an external stylesheet or inline on the element. Quoting the CSS attribute makes no difference. Adding "Unkown Font" to the stack also makes no difference. New Screenshot: The answer from Jukka below is correct. Here is a new screenshot with Batang (not BatangChe) to illustrate. • Firefox 4 stores passwords, but suddenly forgot that it did?

  I am using firefox 4 as my default browser, but this is probably file system related. I will describe the problem and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? Today I was using the browser as normal, all sign ins worked as usual, everything was normal. Then when I got back home tonight and opened it, none of my saved usernames/passwords would autofill/auto-signin anymore. I am guessing this must be something filesystem related, and it only happened this one time seemingly at random, so I don't think it is a firefox 4 bug. In fact, I think it might be something to do with suspending the system before I left? Anyone have any idea?

• Disabling assistive technologies during login

  I have a laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. My daughter was playing with the keyboard on the login screen, and it seems she activated some assistive technologies because now the screen is split vertically and the right side shows a magnified version of the left side. Plus, there's a screen keyboard. The way the screen is split makes it impossible for me to disable the assistive stuff from the toolbar at the bottom, since I can only see part of it. I don't know if it's a bug or what, because I'd guess I could see the entire bar on the right (magnified) side just by moving the mouse there, but I can't. I can't even type on the login screen, nor use the on-screen keyboard... Good thing I have auto-login activated, so I can still use the computer, but I can't switch users. So, does anyone know how to get the normal login screen back?

• Deluge bit torrent. No incoming connections?

  Hi I keep getting a no incoming connections on my Deluge. I know this is a pretty common problem from Google, but I have posted here to see if any one knows why this happens. I have port forwarded my router and set Deluge to the correct port range. Is this just a bug ? It does not seem to affect the speed so I obviously do have incoming connections and Transmission says the ports are open. So I guess my question is why is this happening ?

We will be able to complete only HTML in two weeks time, this user story will take 4-6 weeks to be completed as we have a shortage of content designing resources. How can we change this user story so that HTML completion can be considered as a done for this user story and we need to take up the integration of this user story in the next sprint? I've got the message on the google webmasters tools that the change speed has been taken in account: But after more than three days, nothing happens: still one request every ten seconds See here: My webserver is very fast and can handle up to twenty simultaneous connexions. And my website is brand new, this means google is almost the only one here crawling my website. After more than 30000 successful requests (= no 404), I think there's something going on... or maybe this is just a bug? Has anyone ever had this problem?

• scale mode window on same workspace (ubuntu 12.04)

  I have recently upgraded from ubuntu 11.10 to ubuntu 12.04. Generally in unity if we open several interface of an application then we can switch them by double clicking the icon of the application on unity panel. It shows the opened application's multiple interface in scale mode. But ubuntu 12.04 does not show the windows of different workspace in scale mode. If i open three nautilus, two in same and one in different workspace then click on icon show two interface (which workspace contains two). That's means it only shows current workspace's application's interface. Is it a bug or feature of ubuntu 12.04? Is there any way to fix it?

• Unity very slow while Gnome Classic running just fine

  I see tons of people complaining about Unity speed and I think the problem is not with the video drivers. When I login to Gnome Classic the system is behaving just fine, but when on Unity I can barely do use it: windows are moved hard, terminal is damn slow. Is there any solution or bug that I should track? • Thunderbird 16.0.1 filling disk space

  I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 with Thunderbird 16.0.1 and Kernel 3.6.0-030600rc4-generic. I used Thunderbird for quite a while and never had any problems with it. But now it seems to fill up my disk space very fast: watch -n 1 df -h . so Ubuntu started giving out warnings. First I removed some files but not much later it had filled up around 600 MB. It eats around 50 MB/min while I just download 10 emails or so via IMAP. This behaviour is new and seems to be some kind of bug. I don't want to delete my old mails, so what else could I do?

• SPRoleAssignment Crazy Caviats

  I’m not sure if this bug exists on any other environment, but here are a few issues I ran into when trying to use SPRoleAssignment and SPGroup: When trying to use Web.Groups[“GroupName”] it basically told me the group did not exist, so I had to change the code to use Web.SiteGroups[“GroupName”]. I could not add the Role Assignment to the Web and run a Web.Update() without adding an additional Web.AllowUnsafeUpdates= true; , however on my virtual machine I could do a Web.Update() without the extra piece of code.  I kept receiving an error in my browser stating that I should hit the back button and update my permissions. So after fixing those two issues I was able to copy the permissions from a page item into a Site for my migration.  Hopefully, one of you can learn from my error messages if you have any issues in the future.
