• mismatch of version of libkdcraw20 and libkdcraw-data

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. When I'm installlin digiKam, I'm getting a mismatch in the versions of libkdcraw20 and libkdcraw-data wanted by it and that available in the repositories. It wants version 4.8.5-0ubuntu0.2 (or in other words that is the latest version according to synaptic) but the available one is 4.8.5-0ubuntu0.3 in both cases. Is there a work-around? Or how do I request the Ubuntu managers to rectify this? addenda On Synaptic i selected digikam to be installed. it downloaded all the dependencies but the 2 in question were not found - the message it gave "W: Failed to fetch security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libk/libkdcraw/… 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.13 80]". I google-searched the 2 files in the repositories to find that the version available there is ubuntu0.3 instead of ubuntu0.2.

• Why is Cocoa using an old version of Unicode? [closed]

  While I was searching for something in the Apple docs, I stumble on this: illegalCharacterSet Returns a character set containing values in the category of Non-Characters or that have not yet been defined in version 3.2 of the Unicode standard. On the Unicode website, I find that the latest version is 6.1.0. That's a lot of major versions higher than what Cocoa supports. Does somebody know why Apple doesn't upgrade their framework? My more important question is: Are there problems for not doing having support for Unicode 3.2+? Will I have problems reading Unicode files created on other systems with a more recent version of Unicode?

• What is the situation about OpenGL under Ubuntu Unity and Gnome3?

  In a GNU/linux distribution is usually installed Xorg as main graphical server, it operates with a client-server logic, a special windows is designate as desktop environment and this special windows can handle all the eyecandy stuff like decorations, icons and effects. The problem is that the latest UI heavily relies on hardware acceleration, Unity is an overlay on Compiz and the Gnome-shell also require an active driver for the GPU to work well: the problem is: on the same OS I can find multiple implementations of OpenGL who is handling my OpenGL buffer? how the OpenGL buffer is managed compared to the other windows? how can I be sure that my OpenGL implementation is glued to the hardware and is not related to the client-server logic of Xorg? For example I have tried the clutter library and I have only experienced problems under both Unity and GTK/Gnome, no problem under other OS.

• Stuck on busybox after a fresh install

  I installed 11.10 and was getting stuck on Busybox unless I type exit. After grabbing the latest updates it then didn't get stuck on busybox but instead on a black screen of nothingness. I've now reformatted and started again using the exit technique for the time being. I had a search here before posting and none of the answers gave much insight, other than it 'could be a gfx card driver issue'. I'm using new hardware that has no issues with Mint, Win7 or WinXp. BUT note, I'm not dual booting, its a complete fresh install formatting the entire drive. Any help is appreciated as I'd really like to get stuck into Ubuntu. Thanks in advance. -Luke

• Laptop buttons not working on a Dell Latitude e6400

  I have install Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit on my Dell Latitude E6400 laptop. I have the latest bios version for my laptop (A32) which I downloaded from the official Dell website by checking updates that matches the service tag on my laptop. I'm having serious problems with all the mouse buttons on my laptop. The right-click button doesn't work at all under any circumstance. The left click button only work when clicking on icons in the left side-bar and in the top menu (like clicking on the power icon in the top-right corner or clicking on the file menu). However none of the buttons work in any of the applications even simple one like the file browser (home folder). For example when I try to click on a folder inside nautilus it doesn't work or when I try to click on the "x" close icon to close the window it also doesn't work. Can you help me figure it out?

• 3ds Max CAT to XNA

  Has anyone successfully used the CAT bone system in 3ds Max and exported the file into XNA? If so, what was your method of doing so? There are a number of methods of doing this apparently, but the ones I've tried have not worked. I used the Panda Exporter which creates a .X file. This seems to be the latest way of going about this, but when it's loaded in XNA, there is an error saying something about the bone weights. This happens when I export with and without CAT bones.

  I've reading about about the Cinnamon Desktop through this Q&A: How do I install the Cinnamon Desktop? I've also been looking at the various possible various flavours of Ubuntu such as Unity/Gnome-shell and KDE: How do I install KDE shell on Ubuntu? How do I install and use the latest version of GNOME Shell? My concern is about running applications on Cinnamon - I'm fairly new to linux and am unsure about running software - especially about potentially mixing different software that may have been targeted at different desktops. Can I run a Kubuntu or Unity applications in Cinnamon or do I have to get specific Cinnamon only applications? For example, KOffice/Libreoffice, Okular/evince etc. Any help understanding what potential impacts such as extra software I may need to use or additional configuration to make sure that various different software behave and look like each other would be gratefully received.

• Ubuntu 12.04 boot freezes

  I installed win7 on one of my machines. It works without any problem. Now I can not install Ubuntu 12.04 (11.10, 11.04) because the installation process stops in a very early stage: I can see that ISOLinux was loaded, then I can see some very simple icons, then I can see text messages of the kernel. The last message I can see: [6.177983] sr 5:0:0:0: attached scsi general ss1 type 5 At that point the system stops. I tried different versions (11.04) , I disabled, and then disconnected the hdd, but the same problem occured independently from my actions. I can boot a gparted live cd, but that system can not see my hdd. On the other hand, I can boot the installation cd of the latest stable Debian distribution without any problem, but I would prefer to use Ubuntu, because I use that distribution on all of our machines.s Configuration: Asus P8H61-MLE motheboard, Gigabyte GTS 450, Intel i5, 4gb ram, wd 1T sata hdd Any idea?   Our latest BizTalk Server 2010 development project is utilising BizTalk as the integration ring around a new and sizable implementaion of Dynamics AX 2012. With this project we have decided to use BAM to monitor the processes within our various new applications.Although I have been specialising in BizTalk for around 9 years, this is my first time using BAM so it is an interesting process to be going through.Recently when deploying a solution I was attempting to check the BAM Portal to see that the View that I had created was properly deployed and that the Activity I was populating was being surfaced in the Portal as expected. Initially I was presented with the message "No view to display" in the "My Views" area of the BAM Portal landing page.This was because you need to set the permissions on the views that you want to see from the command line using the bm.exe tool:bm.exe add-account -AccountName:YourServerOrDomain\YourUsername -View:YourViewThis tool can be found in the BAM folder at the BizTalk installation location:C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010\Tracking

  I'm pretty new at using TFS and I'd like to know how you or your team use the "shelve" function of tfs. We have the following guidelines in using TFS: - perform a "Get Latest" before you check in and try to build/compile - do not check in code that does not compile - at the end of the day, if your work is not complete/partially done, you should "shelve" your pending changes The first two make sense but I don't really get the last one. I asked my mgr and he said that its so he knows that you actually did some work for that day, which does kind of makes sense but still, I'm wondering what other teams use the "shelve" function for?
