  I am very new to this programming career. I am now doing job on PHP & MySQL (joined before 6 months) and working on e-commerce project. Simultaneously I am learning JAVA also just completed Adv. Java. I can code on both. I am good at SQL, Oracle and MySQL also. My Question is Where do I set my career on PHP or JAVA? Which has more scope and future security? Or also is there any job profile which includes both, if yes then is that good to work on both? I am confused a lot on this, please help me..

• I need a multi-language site with webshop functionality. Which CMS to choose?

  I need to develop a multi-language site which includes simple webshop functionality. I have extended experience with WordPress. There are numerous shopping cart plugins available for WordPress however none of them is compatible with multi-language plugins such as WMPL. Drupal is an option I looked into (using i18n and Ubercart) and I am not sure this is the solution I am looking for. Another solution I considered is to develop a custom WordPress cart plugin that is compatible with WPML. Anyone familiar with this situation? Any recommendation regarding CMSes that fit my needs? Thanks!

• How can I make a character move forward in a certain direction?

  I have an entity class which is updated every game tick. Let's just assume said entity moves forward constantly. What i want to know is, how can i make it so that i can give an angle to a function and it will make my entity move in that direction. let's say for example moveForward(90); Would make my character move to the right, or for example declaring my rotation as a global Integer: moveForward(rotation); rotation++; Would make my entity move around in a small circle, I assume this includes some kind of vector math, which I haven't done any studying on so a brief explanation of that if it's necessary would be nice. I would appreciate a small code snippet and an explanation I can analyze, thanks in advanced :)

• How can you monitor internet download usage?

  Some broadband providers impose a monthly download limit, charging extra if you go over. It is also quite easy to exceed some of the lower limits just by installing/updating packages and 'normal' browsing (which to me includes streaming TV programs and movies). This means that you need to limit the amount you use the internet, yet it is hard to know when. The System Monitor helps a bit with this by giving a total received/total sent in the networking section of the Resources tab. However, this is reset every reboot. It would be good if there was a way to have a monthly total received so you can know how close you are to exceeding your limit and maybe even be given warnings if it looks like you are going to exceed the limits. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?

• ubuntu 12.04 sound not working in applications

  I run Ubuntu on a DELL Vostro 3500 laptop. Everything was working perfectly since this morning, after an update... I can't play any multimedia sound anymore, that includes youtube and others, mp3 in Rythmbox, sound of video in VLC. I can see my device in the setting window and I can play tests sound, but nothing else. Any idea? EDIT: I'm switching very often from to HDMI output, which is deconnected right now. I've tried running VLC, and in the audio menu, you can choose the output so now I can listen to music via VLC but not with other programs. Looks like ubuntu is not totally switching the audio device after unplugging the HDMI cable. Is there any command line which can do so?

• Returning status code where one of many errors could have occured

  I'm developing a PHP login component which includes functions to manipulate the User object, such as $User->changePassword(string $old, string $new) What I need some advice with is how to return a status, as the function can either succeed (no further information needs to be given) or fail (and the calling code needs to know why, for example incorrect password, database problem etc.) I've come up with the following ideas: Unix-style: return 0 on success, another code on failure. This doesn't seem particularly common in PHP and the language's type-coercion messes with this (a function returning FALSE on success?) This seems to be the best I can think of. Throw an exception on error. PHP's exception support is limited, and this will make life harder for anybody trying to use the functions. Return an array, containing a boolean for "success" or not, and a string or an int for "failure status" if applicable. None of these seem particularly appealing, does anyone have any advice or better ideas?

  I got a hosting account at HOSTGATOR. it was a shared account and i had three websites present over there. now, i have upgraded my account to VPS at HOSTGATOR and i want to transfer only ONE website over the new VPS. say, mydom.net. this website includes wordpress installation and other custom pages and setup can somebody please guide me How can I transfer the web to my new account? with speed, accuracy, and such that my website remains in working condition.. what will I do about wordpress? simply copy it will work?(I dont thnk so), if not how can I move it?   When I hit the power button of my computer, a window titled 'Shut Down the Computer' appears. It gives a few options, including shutting down or restarting. This window is different following the context I hit the power button : when logged in and seeing my desktop, it includes colourful icons (red for shutting down, for example). when I am not logged in yet, the icons are monochrome and a little bit more stylized. I clearly prefer the last type of icons : how do I set them as default whatever the context of use of the 'Shut Down the Computer' window ?

I recently tried A Small Orange, whose GUI was not compelling, and I quickly learned to loathe c panel. I looked into using GoDaddy, but reviews of their service have been very negative. I was satisfied with iPower's control panel, so something similar would be appropriate. • Good source for interview-style coding problems for entry/intermediate developers?

  I have taught myself to code over the past few years and do not have a computer science degree. As a result, I lack experience from many things, such as the basic homework/test questions many CS graduates take for granted. I recently had a tech screen interview where I fumbled and struggled to finish a (relatively) common question, I believe due to this inexperience. My question to all of you is this: do you know a good source for a bunch of these problems that includes answers, for an entry/intermediate developer who is trying to gain coding problem solving experience? The ones I've been able to find on the internet are for coding teams, so they're a bit too complicated for me. Thanks so much in advance.
