• How can I synchronise my Outlook Calendar with Google Calendar (preferably using a free/open source tool)?

  How can I synchronise my desktop Outlook calendar with my Google Calendar (Outlook - Google)? I saw the question Free tool for Synchronizing Google Contacts and Calendar with Outlook, but the solution that was suggested there is no longer available - Google Sync End of Life. There are tools that required a payment, like SyncMyCal, gSyncit and OggSync, but I am looking for a free / open source solution. One can download Google sync, but when trying to use it there's an error: For now, I use OggSync to synchronise, but as a freeware it allows to synchronise manually only, not automatically, so I have to remember to synchronise after every change. I checked Mozilla Sunbird, but I couldn't find any relative posts on how to synchronise Outlook - Google using it. Just to be clear: I'm not looking for software; I am looking for a solution. What can I do if sometimes software is a solution?

• Website is live but ping times out

  I have a client's website that is running on GoDaddy hosting and started behaving very strange recently. The site is up and running but when I try to ping it I get time out. The problem is PayPal doesn't work also Google Webmaster reported the site is down. The client spoke with support and they said there is no firewall or any other traffic filter on their side. The site itself is PHP. Any ideas are welcome. I've tried to send test IPN from PayPal to the payment URL and got: IPN delivery failed. Unable to connect to the specified URL. Please verify the URL and try again. Which makes me think that the website/server is inaccessible in some specific cases. The site URL is http://www.flavourly.com P.S.: I tried to ping it from different machines, ISPs and OS

• Google Analytics API data for goals (funnels) doesn't match - how do they reconcile?

  I have a Google Analytics account with a well-functioning funnel made up of 4 goals. I can query the API and get the data out, but it does not match the funnel report in Analytics. Without getting into specific values, I can give you an example with faked data. Here's how the funnel might look: Shopping Cart 100 > 100 > 20 80 (80%) Address Page 5 > 85 > 25 60 (71%) Payment Page 2 > 62 > 10 52 (84%) Checkout 1 > 53 (49.07% funnel conversion rate) Okay, so you would expect the API to output data something like this: goal1Starts goal1Completions goal1Abandons 100 80 20 goal2Starts goal2Completions goal2Abandons 85 60 25 goal3Starts goal3Completions goal3Abandons 62 52 10 goal4Starts goal4Completions goal4Abandons 53 53 0 Instead, it's different. Firstly, the abandons are associated with the following goal (so goal1 always has 0 abandons and goal4 always has 0 abandons. Okay, I can work with that. What's confusing is that the numbers are always a little different. The goal1Completions always match the report, as do the goal4Completions, but everything else is off by a small amount. Sometimes it's only 2 visits, other times it's off by 50. So, here's my question: What data do I need to pull from the API in order to recreate the counts in the Funnel report in Google Analytics? • Best way to process a queue in C# (PDF treatment)

  First of all let me expose what I would like to do : I already dispose of a long-time running webapp developed in ASP.NET (C#) 2.0. In this app, users can upload standard PDF files (text+pics). The app is running in production on a Windows Server 2003 and has a dedicated database server (SQL server 2008) also running Windows Server 2003. I myself am a quite experienced web developer, but never actually programmed anything non-web (or at least nothing serious). I plan on adding a functionality to the webapp for which I would need a jpg snapshot of each page of the PDF. Creating these "thumbnails" isn't the big deal as such, I already do it inside my webapp using ghostscript. I've only done it on 1 page documents for now though, and the new functionality will need to process bigger documents. In order for this process to be transparent aswell for the admins as the final users, I would like to implement some kind of queue to delay the processing of the thumbnails. There again, no problem to create the queue, it will consist of records in a table, with enough info to find the pdf document back. Then I will need to process this queue, and that's were my interrogations start. Obviously the best solution to process it isn't an ASP script or so, so I will have to get out of my known environment. No problem, but I have no idea which direction to go. Therefore, a few questions : What should I develop ? I presumably need something that is "standby" on the server, runs when needed, then returns to idle state until further notice.Should I be looking into Windows service ? Is there another more appropriate type of project ? Depending on the first answer, what will be the approach ? Should I have somehow SQL server "tell" the program/service/... to process the queue, or should I have that program/service/... periodically check the state of the queue and treat new items. In both case, which functionality can I use ? we're not talking about hundreds of PDF a day (max 50 maybe), I can totally afford to treat the queue 1 item at a time. Can you confirm I don't have to look much further on threads and so ? (I found a lot of answers talking about threads in queue treatment, but it looks quite overkill for my needs) Maybe linked to the previous question : what about concurrent call to the program, whatever it is ? Let's suppose it is currently running, and a new record comes in the queue, what should be the behaviour ? I don't need much detailed answers and would already be happy with answers like "You can do the processing with a service, and yes it's possible to have sqlserver on machine A trigger a service start on machine B" or "You have to develop xxx and then use the scheduler to run it every xxx minutes". I don't mind reading articles and so, but I can hardly afford to spend too much time learning stuff to finally realize I went the wrong way for this project, so basically I'm trying to narrow down the scope of matters I need to investigate. • Create / build / generate a web form that can be on my server and has modern looks and could be impl

  I have a small web site and would like to add a 'contact us' form and a 'feedback' form. i would like the forms to satisfy the following: 1- be modern looking (with beautiful css effects) 2- the form fields are validated properly and 'inline'. What I mean is once a user skips a required field or enters an email address incorrectly some kind of tooltip or icon is displayed to ask him to cerrect the error (as opposed to a message box that appears after the user clicks 'submit') 3- once the submit button is clicked the form contents are emailed to me. 4- the whole thing can be setup by a noob like myself. 5- no ads on the form I have been searching for at least 5 days for a solution but I can't seem to find anything the would satisfy the above 5 conditions. I don't mind paying for a solution as long as it is hosted on my site and it is a one off payment and not a monthly payment. So far my search has lead me to the following: 1 wufoo. The good: the generated forms seem to look okay but not the best there is. The bad: the free service is limited to 100 submissions. ads on the form. it is not hosted on my server. Paid service requires monthly payments 2- emailmeform: almost same as above except the generated form looks old. They do have an offer where you pay only $4 to get the form and set it up on your own site but that doesn't solve the fact that the forms look old. 3- formAssembly: same as above with minor variations (the generated form looks better) 4- formchamp, formthis, kontaktr,... And other similar online services: the same problem. either the form generated looks outdated or require monthly payments or they put ads...they don't satisfy my conditions. 5- coffeecup form builder. a desktop software. The problem is the generated forms look too old and use flash. 6- simfatic. Another software. Much better than coffeecup. almost satisfies my conditions but the forms not as good as I like. 7- many, many php scripts or html templates that look so outdated or fail when tested (probably because they are too old). Seriously guys, how hard is this. At least 90%+ of website contain at least a 'contact us' form. Why aren't there better solutions? if there is I can't seem to find them. In terms of looks I want something similar to this: http://web-kreation.com/articles/lightform-free-ajaxphp-contact-form/ It is called lightform. And this is a perfect example of what I mean by 'inline' validation. the only problem: there is no script to handle sending the mail. Even if I find one, I don't know how to modify it for my needs. So could you please help me out. I really can't search anymore. I reached rock bottom with this issue. I need a complete solution. If nothing exists then at least a: 1- form template (html) that looks nice and can easily be modified 2- a validation script that does 'inline' validation like the example above (or similar to it) and can be easily implemented by a noob like me to work with the html form. 3- a php script that will handle sending the email and can be easily implemented (all three working in harmony). I hope there is a complete solution but am I asking for too much? Pretty please...help...

  Hi, I'm trying to display all orders placed and I have a primary accessdatasource control that has a select query to get the customer information and the orderID. I want to use the orderID value from this first query as a parameter for the secondary accessdatasource control that selects the product information of the products in the order. In plain english, I want to:- select product info from product table where orderID = ? • Returning Meaningful Exceptions from a WCF Project

  I am pretty new to WCF in general. What little experience I have comes from using fairly simple .SVC services in ASP.NET web applications. I tried experimenting with using a WCF Project for the first time, and ran into a major show-stopper. As I’m sure most are aware, for some strange reason, in a web application in which the customErrors mode is set to On , services (both .ASMX and .SVC) will not return exception details to the client. Instead, the exception and stack trace are emptied, and the message always reads “There was an error processing the request”, which is not at all helpful. When services are directly hosted inside the web application itself, it’s easy to work around this restriction by placing the services in a dedicated folder, and setting for that folder. However, I’m running into this same issue with exceptions not being returned from services that live in a separate WCF project. Thing is, I don’t know how to work around that. In a nutshell: I need to get my WCF Project services to bubble REAL exceptions to the client – or at least, the original exception message, instead of “There was an error processing the request”.

  We are using Java RMI for communication. An RMI client passes a processing request and an object with a callback method to an RMI server. The server invokes the callback when it is done with processing. The setup is similar to the one described in RMI Callbacks. • Spikes in Socket Performance

  We are facing random spikes in high throughput transaction processing system using sockets for IPC. Below is the setup used for the run: The client opens and closes new connection for every transaction, and there are 4 exchanges between the server and the client. We have disabled the TIME_WAIT, by setting the socket linger (SO_LINGER) option via getsockopt as we thought that the spikes were caused due to the sockets waiting in TIME_WAIT. There is no processing done for the transaction. Only messages are passed. OS used Centos 5.4 The average round trip time is around 3 milli seconds, but some times the round trip time ranges from 100 milli seconds to couple of seconds. Steps used for Execution and Measurement and output Starting the server $ python sockServerLinger.py /dev/null & Starting the client to post 1 million transactions to the server. And logs the time for a transaction in the client.log file. $ python sockClient.py 1000000 client.log Once the execution finishes the following command will show the execution time greater than 100 milliseconds in the format <line_number>:<execution_time>. $ grep -n "0.[1-9]" client.log | less Below is the example code for Server and Client. • How to Increase the time till a read timeout error occurs?

  Hi all. I've written in PHP a script that takes a long time to execute [Image processing for thousands of pictures]. It's a meter of hours - maybe 5. After 15 minutes of processing, I get the error: ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved The following error was encountered while trying to retrieve the URL: The URL which I clicked Read Timeout The system returned: [No Error] A Timeout occurred while waiting to read data from the network. The network or server may be down or congested. Please retry your request. Your cache administrator is webmaster. What I need is to enable that script to run for much longer. Now, here are all the technical info: I'm writing in PHP and using the Zend Framework. I'm using Firefox. The long script that is processed is done after clicking a link. Obviously, since the script is not over I see the web page on which the link was and the web browser writes "waiting for ...". After 15 minutes the error occurs. I tried to make changes to Firefox threw about:config but without any success. I don't know, but the changes might be needed somewhere else. So, any ideas? Thanks ahead.

• Syncronization Exception

  Hi I have two threads, one thread processes a queue and the other thread adds stuff into the queue. I want to put the queue processing thread to sleep when its finished processing the queue I want to have the 2nd thread tell it to wake up when it has added an item to the queue However these functions call System.Threading.SynchronizationLockException: Object synchronization method was called from an unsynchronized block of code on the Monitor.PulseAll(waiting); call, because I havent syncronized the function with the waiting object. [which I dont want to do, i want to be able to process while adding items to the queue]. How can I achieve this? • Scheme Infix to Postfix

  Let me establish that this is part of a class assignment, so I'm definitely not looking for a complete code answer. Essentially we need to write a converter in Scheme that takes a list representing a mathematical equation in infix format and then output a list with the equation in postfix format. We've been provided with the algorithm to do so, simple enough. The issue is that there is a restriction against using any of the available imperative language features. I can't figure out how to do this in a purely functional manner. This is our fist introduction to functional programming in my program. I know I'm going to be using recursion to iterate over the list of items in the infix expression like such. (define (itp ifExpr) ( ; do some processing using cond statement (itp (cdr ifExpr)) )) I have all of the processing implemented (at least as best I can without knowing how to do the rest) but the algorithm I'm using to implement this requires that operators be pushed onto a stack and used later. My question is how do I implement a stack in this function that is available to all of the recursive calls as well?

  Hey all, I am trying to doing some sql querys out of Oracle 11g and am having issues using ora:contains. I am using spring's jdbc impl and my code generates the sql statement: select * from view_name where column_a = ? and column_b = ? and existsNode(xmltype(clob_column), 'record/name [ora:contains(text(), "name1") 0]', 'xmlns:ora="http://xmlns.oralce.com/xdb"') = 1 I have removed the actual view / column names obviously, but when I copy that into sqlplus and substitute in random values, the select executes properly. When I try to run it in my DAO code I get this stack trace: org.springframework.jdbc.UncatergorizedSQLException: PreparedStatementCallback; uncatergorizedSQLException for SQL [the big select above]; SQL state [99999]; error code [31011]; ORA-31011: XML parsing failed. • Several Small, Specific, MySQL Query Cache Questions

  I've look all over the web and in the questions asked here about MySQL caching and most of them seem very non-specific about a couple of questions that I have about performance and MySQL query caching. Specifically I want answers to these questions, assume for all questions that I have the query cache enabled and it is of type 2, or "DEMAND": Is the query cache per table, per database, or per server? Meaning if I have the cache size set to X and have T tables and D databases will I be caching TX, DX, or X amount of data? If I have table T1 which I regularly use the SQL_CACHE hint on for SELECT queries and table T2 which I never do, when I query T2 with a SELECT query will it check through the cache first before performing the query? *Note: I don't want to use the SQL_NO_CACHE for all T2 queries.* Assume the same situation as in question 2. If I alter (INSERT, DELETE) table T2 will any processing be done on the cache? For answers to 2 and 3, is this processing time negligible if T2 is constantly being altered and is the target of a majority of my SELECT queries?

• Thread implemented as a Singleton

  Hi all, I have a commercial application made with C,C++/Qt on Linux platform. The app collects data from different sensors and displays them on GUI. Each of the protocol for interfacing with sensors is implemented using singleton pattern and threads from Qt QThreads class. All the protocols except one work fine. Each protocol's run function for thread has following structure: void <ProtocolClassName>::run() { while(!mStop) //check whether screen is closed or not { mutex.lock() while(!waitcondition.wait(&mutex,5)) { if(mStop) return; } //Code for receiving and processing incoming data mutex.unlock(); } //end while } Hierarchy of GUI. 1.Login screen. 2. Screen of action. When a user logs in from login screen, we enter the action screen where all data is displayed and all the thread's for different sensors start. They wait on mStop variable in idle time and when data arrives they jump to receiving and processing data. Incoming data for the problem protocol is 117 bytes. In the main GUI threads there are timers which when timeout, grab the running instance of protocol using <ProtocolName>::instance() function Check the update variable of singleton class if its true and display the data. When the data display is done they reset the update variable in singleton class to false. The problematic protocol has the update time of 1 sec, which is also the frame rate of protocol. When I comment out the display function it runs fine. But when display is activated the application hangs consistently after 6-7 hours. I have asked this question on many forums but haven't received any worthwhile suggestions. I Hope that here I will get some help. Also, I have read a lot of literature on Singleton, multithreading, and found that people always discourage the use of singletons especially in C++. • Is there a programming toolkit for converting "any file type" to a TIFF image?

  Hello, I've written several variations of a program. The purpose of the program is to convert "any file type" to a TIFF image represenation of that file, as if it were being printed using a printer. I'm currently using a third party printer driver that I send files to, and it outputs a TIFF image. This is nice, but it requires me to use Office Interop files, and interact with each individual processing application in order to print the files. I had previously tried a toolkit, called Apose .NET, which did not rely on Office Interop, and did not require any printer driver. It did the conversion all on its own and would create a TIFF image. The problem with Aspose .NET was that it did not support a wide variety of input file types. Most notably, it can't do Visio files. My project calls for the ability to create a TIFF image for virtually "any file type". (excluding exes, music files, and stuff) I know that finding something that handles literally any file type is probably not a very feasible task, so I figure if it can at least handle all the Office file types, Adobe types, and other major standard file types, then I can write a custom extension parsing module that uses those processing applications to do the printing of any file type that can be viewed using those applications. So, does anyone know of a toolkit that can do this? Preferably one that does not rely on Office or a printer driver. It does not have to be free, or open source. Or, if you know of an amazing printer driver that does this, I'm open to that too. Thanks in advance, Ryan

• How can I display multiple django modelformset forms in a grouped fieldsets?

  I have a problem with needing to provide multiple model backed forms on the same page. I understand how to do this with single forms, i.e. just create both the forms call them something different then use the appropriate names in the template. Now how exactly do you expand that solution to work with modelformsets? The wrinkle, of course, is that each 'form' must be rendered together in the appropriate fieldset. The problem is that I can't figure out a way to do the same thing with the templating engine. The system does work if I layout all the base models together then all the likes models after wards, but it doesn't meet the layout requirements. EDIT: Updated the problem statement to be more clear about what exactly I'm processing (I'm processing models not forms in the for loop)
