    I'm considering utilizing the ASP.NET Membership Provider for a few different web apps/tools with a single login approach. REQUIREMENTS User logs in to my.domain.com and sees a list of apps/tools that they have permission to use. The user selects the tool they'd like to use and clicks the link. When the tool opens, it is able to identify that they are currently logged in and who they are to identify any unique permissions to the application. I know that each app could simply point to the same back end Membership Provider DB, however will each app require a login or will it be able to identify if the user is already logged in?

    I'm new to Watir and I've having a little trouble getting logged in in my tests. I use authlogic as my authentication method of choice. When a User registers, they are sent an email with a confirmation link. Clicking this link confirms their account and they can then login. The issue I'm having is how do I confirm the User when using Watir? I have so far: Given /I sign up/ do BROWSER.goto("http://localhost:3000/register") BROWSER.text_field(:id, "user_email").set("[email protected]") BROWSER.text_field(:id, "user_name").set("Foo Bar) BROWSER.text_field(:id, "user_password").set("foo bar") BROWSER.text_field(:id, "user_password_confirmation").set("foo bar") BROWSER.button(:id, "user_submit").click end Given /I am logged in via Watir/ do BROWSER.goto("http://localhost:3000/login") BROWSER.text_field(:id, "user_session_email").set("[email protected]) BROWSER.text_field(:id, "user_session_password").set("foo bar") BROWSER.button(:id, "user_session_submit").click end This correctly populates the fields and the User is saved. Now I try to confirm the User like so: Given /I am confirmed/ do User.last.confirmed! end Unfortunately this doesn't work. What am I missing?

I've never used SBS 2008 before today, so this is a real noob question: Is it possible to create a user account without creating an associated exchange mailbox? I've been asked to create a new user, but not give them an email address. I guess I could just disable their email account in Exchange, but is there a nicer method?

    I'm building a web application that shows users interesting visualizations of their Gmail activity (who they're emailing the most, etc). Obviously the user needs to give me his Gmail password to use the application, and I'm wondering how I should store it: Store the Gmail password in plaintext. Risky! Don't store the Gmail password at all; force the user to enter it every time he wants to sync data. Potentially inconvenient! Encrypt the Gmail password before storing it. The user's password to my application is the key. Something like (3) seems best, but with (3) I can only sync data when the user logs in (since I won't know his password to my application at any other time), which isn't ideal. I'd prefer a Mint.com-like solution whereby the user can click a button to sync data from Gmail at any time without re-entering his password (any idea how Mint accomplishes this without storing your banking passwords?)

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2010 development single machine installation problems

    I'm having problems installing development machine for Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010. This is what I did so far on the same machine: Installed a clean Windows 7 x64 with 4GB of RAM without being part of any domain. Just a simple standalone machine. Enabled IIS related features as described here except IIS6 related ones (two of them) Installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Development Edition (DB Engine and Writer being enabled but not SQL Agent) Installed Visual Studio 2010 Premium Started installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with first extracting files, changing config to enable Windows 7 installation and then installed it as Server Farm (then Complete) to avoid installing SQL Express. Created a separate SPF_CONFIG local user with Logon on as a service right. Opened SPF Management Shell and run New-SPConfigurationDatabase so I am able to use a non-domain username (SPF_CONFIG that I created in the previous step) But all I get is this: The outcome after this error is: Database Sharepoint2010Config is created User SPF_CONFIG is added to SQL Server and attached to this newly created database as dbowner and checking SQL server security logins this user has following rights: dbcreator securityadmin public

    I need to get basic user data from Facebook using FB.api('/<some_id>/'). This works well, but is slow, since I need to ask for every id separately and make several calls to facebook. Is there any way to gather all ids and ask for them in single request and get an array? EDIT I am not asking for user friends. I am actually trying to gather friends' friends of a user and that's something Facebook doesn't provide, that's why I am using graph.facebook.com/<id>/ rather than graph.facebook.com/me/friends.     I am running Windows7 RC1, I have recently installed CheckPoint VPN SecureClient (http://www.checkpoint.com/products/vpn-1_clients/) to connect to my work network. On installation this appears to have disabled Fast User Switching. You will notice "Switch user" is now greyed out. I tried some googleing first and the most popular solution is to remove a registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ GinaDLL I have no entry there.     I would appreciate some help debugging my windows 2008 profile service. Any domain account that logs on to my 2008 machine gets a +- 20 second waiting time on "user profile service" I am using roaming profiles, they are around 8mb in size, and most folders are already redirected to a network share. event log registers no errors, there is more than 1 network card installed, but I have the correct card listed as "primary" Is there any way to increase verbosity of logging on specifically the "user profile service" ?     Hi, I'm surprised this question hasn't come up. Couldn't find much on the web. Using Entry.objects.latest('created_at') I can recover the latest entry for all Entry objects, but say if I want the latest entry for each user? This is something similar to an SQL latest record query. But how do I achieve this using the ORM? Here is my approach I'm wondering if it is the most efficient way to do what I want. First I perform a sub query: Objects are grouped by user and the Max (latest) created_by field is returned for each user (created_at__max) I then filter Entry objects based on the results in the subquery and get the required objects. Entry.objects.filter(created_at__in=Entry.objects.values('user').annotate(Max('created_at')).values_list('created_at__max')) or using a manager: class UsersLatest(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return Super(UsersLatest,self).get_query_set().filter(created_at__in=self.model.objects.values('user').annotate(Max('created_at')).values_list('created_at__max')) Is there a more efficient way? possibly without sub query?     I am just starting to learn how to create a facebook app. I am using the MS dotnet libraries. Following this example and info: http://fbtutorial.qsh.eu/section1/fbml/step6.aspx I added some code in the default.aspx to print out the user name - but I am not getting any user information back. I understand that some user information is available even if the application is not authorized, such as name or user id. Example this code returns u=null: Facebook.Schema.user u = Master.Api.Users.GetInfo(); And this returns 0: this.Master.Api.Session.UserId Any suggestions as to why no information is getting returned?     I'm trying to use ResolveUrl() to set some paths in the code behind of a custom ASP.NET user control. The user control contains a navigation menu. I'm loading it on a page that's loading a master page. When I call ResolveUrl("~") in my user control it returns "~" instead of the root of the site. When I call it in a page I get the root path as expected. I've stepped through with the debugger and confirmed, ResolveUrl("~") returns "~" in my user control code behind. Is there some other way I should be calling the function in my user control code behind to get the root path of the site?

    Before I begin, I am using Ruby on Rails and the Devise gem for user authentication. Hi, I was doing some research about account security and I found a blog post about the topic awhile ago but I can no longer find it again. I read something about when making a login system you should have 1 model for User, this contains a user's username, encrypted password, and email. You should also have a model for a user's Account. This contains everything else. A User has an Account. I don't know if I'm explaining this correctly since I haven't seen the blog post for several months and I lost my bookmark. Could someone explain how and why I should or shouldn't do this. My application deals with money so I need to cover my bases with security. Thanks.

How do I bind for example in a form to properties that are in the Person Class? Like: <TextBox Text="{Binding FirstName, ElementName=source2}"/> Everything seems to come back as IEnumerable or as CollectionViews (like the DATA binding in the samples) which aren't useful for a single entity. I want a single persons entry, why do I want a CollectionView in which I cannot access properties directly. I have also use the: LoadOperation<Person> oLoadOperation = oDataContext.Load(oDataContext.GetSinglePersonQuery()); I am very close to giving up on this RIA idea and just going with a normal WCF service as it is more predictable and manageable at this stage.

    I have a Windows system service that needs to communicate string information to an application running under the user's account. The strings will appear to the user so I want to make sure that the strings that the service passes to the application are in the same language as the user account. How can I tell what display language the currently logged in user has from the service code? If I can determine this, I can just load the correct resource file and be done. I don't have to support multiple user's logged in so the service will only communicate with one application instance at a time.

    We're considering pre-provisioning each user's MySite in SP 2010 - I know MS don't recommend it but it's a Uni installation and we'd like to have the student accounts set up in advance rather than have everything go bananas when a few thousand people all turn up on the same day and start having a look around our available services. Can this be done via a script of some sort? I presume Powershell has some mechanism to trigger the creation without the user having to physically visit their site?

I tried both class Pet < ActiveRecord::Base ... alias_attribute :klass, :type end and class Pet < ActiveRecord::Base ... def klass self.type end def klass=(k) self.type = k end end Neither worked. Any suggestions? Oddly, it works fine on my machine (MRI 1.8.6 on RVM), but fails on the staging server (MRI 1.8.7 not on RVM).

    Hi, I've created a custom user model in my application. This user model is working fine, but there are a couple of problems I have with it. 1) The change password link in the my register.html page doesn't work? 2) The default password box on the add/edit page for a user is a little unfriendly. Ideally, what I'd like is the two password fields from the change password form on the add/edit user form in the admin, which will automatically turn convert the entered password into a valid encrypted password in Django. This would make the admin system MUCH friendlier and much more suited to my needs, as a fair number of user accounts will be created and maintained manually in this app, and the person responsible for doing so will likely be scared off at the sight of that admin field, or just type a clear text password and wonder why it doesn't work. Is this possible / How do I do this?

The task is pretty simple, but I'm stuck because I don't want to provide the username and password in a config file, but prompt the user to provide them each time. The upstart file, placed in /etc/init/openconnect.conf is exec /usr/sbin/openconnect --script=/etc/vpnc/vpnc-script my-gw.example.com However, when I execute start openconnect the process is backgrounded immediately and I get no chance to provide input. How can I make this upstart job ask the user for input?
