• Where's Windows XP standard MIDI SoundFont?

  I'm trying to find the standard SoundFont used in WindowsXP's MIDI Wavetable Synthesizer. I don't know if I get this right, but there seems to be a set of Roland Sound Canvas samples used in XP's wavetable synthesizer. I looked for a SoundFont based on these samples, but either there is none in my Windows installation, or the MIDI playback works in a different way. Anyone has an idea where to look for it?

  I'm currently backing up using WD My Book World network drive that supports Apple Time Machine. I would like to copy some files from my old laptop backup. However, my old backup isn't showing when you browse the time machine network drive, only the currently used machine is listed (I know there are 3 different backups). How can I access those files not belonging to the currently used laptop?

• VMware Fusion disk size

  I have a Windows XP x64 install in VMware Fusion. The amount of space that the VM reports as used (C:) is ~20GB. However, the amount of space the VM is taking up on my disk is 30GB. Why the inconsistency? I do not have autoprotect enabled, nor do I have any snapshots I'm aware of. I have defragmented the drive and used Drive Cleanup from the VMware settings.

  My team is about to start a new enterprise wide ASP.NET development project, quite possibly the largest undertaken by my department so far and the largest project that I've ever worked on. I'm looking for a good logging solution for the system. Firstly, what logging tools are currently available and widely used? Secondly, for an ASP.NET (probably MVC) enterprise applicaiton, which tool is most appropriate based on your experience? So far I've used Log4net almost exclusively for all my previous projects. It's a fantastic tool, however I would like to see if there is anything I've not used out there before I start a project of this magnitude or if there is any reason I would not want to use Log4net for a project of this size.

• C# Compiler should give warning but doesn't?

  Someone on my team tried fixing a 'variable not used' warning in an empty catch clause. try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { } - gives a warning about ex not being used. So far, so good. The fix was something like this: try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { string s = ex.Message; } Seeing this, I thought "Just great, so now the compiler will complain about s not being used." But it doesn't! There are no warnings on that piece of code and I can't figure out why. Any ideas? PS. I know catch-all clauses that mute exceptions are a bad thing, but that's a different topic. I also know the initial warning is better removed by doing something like this, that's not the point either. try { ... } catch (Exception) { } or try { ... } catch { }

• Oracle 10 g - Unable to free up space in tablespace

  The tablespace in Oracle 10g is almost 100% used. Size (MB) = 571,768.0 Used (MB) = 571,534.0 I just deleted (and committed) thousands of records in a table that belongs to a schema associated with that tablespace. Surprisingly, no space was freed up according to the Tablespaces page on Enterprise Manager. Question: is there anything that I need to do to force Oracle to release the space corresponding to the deleted records?

• How to render consistence and smooth moving animation on iphone / ipod / iphone simulator.

  I am trying render a simple animation(object movement animations) on iphone. I used opengl for object rendering. Movements appears to be smooth on the simulator. But if I used same code in the ipod, object movement is slower. In the iphone it is still slower. I googled a bit and found 'frame rate independent rendering method', which taught me the concept of 'time interval' and object movement based on it. However result is very unpleasant. There is a lot of jerk in the animation even when fps remains above 20. Following code fragment is used for calculation of time interval between successive frames and I am using that to move my animation. • Actionbar scherlock is not refreshed when the orientation is changed

  I use Sherlock action bar in my application. I used "ifRoom|withText" feature in my menu. If I test my code in portrait mode, I can see only icon and if I rotate orientation to landscape, still I see only icon. On the other hand, if I run with landscape, I can see text and icon on portrait and landscape. This means that When the screen is rotated, action bar is not refreshed. How can I fix? In menu, I have android:showAsAction="ifRoom|withText" Also I used this line in my manifest file to fixed android:configChanges="keyboardHidden|orientation|screenSize" but it didn't work. • What's the best way to match a query to a set of keywords?

  Pretty much what you would assume Google does. Advertisers come in and big on keywords, lets say "ipod", "ipod nano", "ipod 60GB", "used ipod", etc. Then we have a query, "I want to buy an ipod nano" or "best place to buy used ipods" what kind of algorithms and systems are used to match those queries to the keyword set. I would imagine that some of those keyword sets are huge, 100k keywords made up of one or more actual words. on top of that queries can be 1-n words as well. Any thoughts, links to wikipedia I can start reading? From what I know already I would use some stemmed hash in disk(CDB?) and a bloom filter to check to see if I should even go to disk.

  Laptop: HP Compaq 6710b I can boot from usb just fine with the following usb flash drives: Cruzer micro 4GB HP 4GB The flash drive that will not boot: Flash Voyager 8GB To knock out variables I did the following: Using Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool I performed a low level format Full erase with Flash Memory Tookit In windows 7 I formated the drive to fat32 Used USB-Boot-Tester to write to the drive Also used uNetbooting with various distros to see if that would make a difference My guesses on what could be preventing the drive from booting: The laptop does not support booting to usb flash drives larger than 4GB The drive is defective in some way

  Hello, for my spring-mvc application I created several types of configuration (unittest, integration, qa, production). All the configs are in one war-file, so there is only one type of application I create. Which configuration to take should be decided by the server, where the application is running. To decide what kind of configuration should be used, I have to look into a file. After that I can decide which configuration should be used by spring mvc. For now by convention there is always the -servlet.xml used. Is there a way how to decide dynamically which config to take? Regards, Michael

• Memory Usage on Linux box does not match up with `free`

  I have a Linux machine that is not running too much in the way of software, but is somehow using 1.7GB of the 2GB of the installed memory. When I run free, I get: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2072616 1979972 92644 0 164876 129740 -/+ buffers/cache: 1685356 387260 Swap: 498004 1632 496372 However, when I run ps aux, the memory usage of all processes only comes out to 295.9MB, which is a far cry from the 1.7GB of memory that free reports as used. Why is there such a discrepancy?

• Code optimization - Unused methods

  How can I tell if a method will never be used ? I know that for dll files and libraries you can't really know if someone else (another project) will ever use the code. In general I assume that anything public might be used somewhere else. But what about private methods ? Is it safe to assume that if I don't see an explicit call to that method, it won't be used ? I assume that for private methods it's easier to decide. But is it safe to decide it ONLY for private methods ?

  For a custom wiki django-wakawaka, i want to be able to add a WYSIWYG support. TinyMCE is obviously the most popular plugin, used even by Wordpress. But CK-editor seems more feature full. Those who have used either of these or both, which is better and why. Are there some better packages, that I am missing? Is there something that I am missing when I conclude CKeditor is better, by going through them (because it is not as widely used). I want to use it with django and jquery, with multiple instances of WYSIWYG widget per page. Does one offer advantage over the other.

• dojo 1.4: difference in tree html rendering

  Hi, I have written an application using dojo 1.3 in which i have used the dijit tree. I am loading the tree with json data specified in the store which is in turn used by the tree model. In the 1.3 version the tree elements pick up the id directly from the json data.However in 1.4 the tree elements have their own id which is something like dijit__treenode_4. The id's that I have specified in json are unique and im not able to understand why these are not being used anymore. Please help me understand how this functionality has changed and how I can override the automatic id generation.. Thanks in advance, Fell

  I have 2 applications.First one is a web application through which we provision reference data.Second one is an ESB based application where the reference data is used.The reference data changes but not very frequently.We needed to cache the reference data.The web application( I am not the owner) used hibernate. But my ESB based application did not.We only used EHCache. When reference data is changed by the independent web application that needs to be reflected in ESB application.We implemented using message queue - that is when reference data changes web application sends a message to the message queue.Our ESB application listens to that message & clears the cache & caches the data once again.This works.But it is time intensive.How can I use Hibernate to improve the situation?   I wish to create an Interface to choose Multiple answers using Drag & Drop rather than CheckBox near to the answers. User can choose two types of answers (Real Answer and a Fake Answer). The User has Two Images (for Real & Fake) on the answer page. User can drag an Image and drop near to the selected answer. It is possible to change the selection by moving the "image and drop over some other answer". I have used a "div formatted with an image" near to all answers, so user can drop the image (ie fake or real image) over this "div". I have used JQuery to move the "image" and drop over the "div". Now I need add the code to the "div" (ie container used to hold the image) to identify which "image is placed over it" ie either "fake or real".
