  • Best way to create a preview functionality in rails

    Hi all, I'm looking to implement a preview functionality in my posts scaffold. All I need to do is allow a user to enter information in the new view (/posts/new) and then replace the submit button with a preview button. Once the preview button is clicked, the user is routed to the preview page (probably /posts/new/preview). If the user wants to make a change they would click 'go back' or if they are happy with the post they can then submit the post. I found this article (http://eyedeal.team88.org/node/105) but it seems dated. Any ideas on what the best approach for this would be? Many thanks, Tony

    I have decided that I would like to have a list with "complex context", i.e. of custom-controls. (The goal is something looking like a buddy list, with photos, status-icons, text, "start-chat-button".) But I like it to behave as a list: scrollbars, possibility to select multiple items etc. When I have been looking at ListView and ListBox I only see that I can add text and an icon, but not arbitrary controls. I'm I missing how this is done? Or should I use something else then ListView/ListBox?

Replacing .toList with .toArray doesn't compile. And is there a more concise or readable way of doing this than the nested for expressions?

I'd like NHibernate to control the update of the column, so I don't need to remember to set a property to the current time before updating.     I'm writing a kind of HTTP proxy, so I need to be able to do 3 things: Parse an HTTP-date given any of the 3 formats specified in RFC 2616, sec 3.3, Convert a file date-time to an HTTP-date string, and Output the date to a string. For reference, theses are examples of the date-times I need to parse. I will output only the first format: Sun, 06 Nov 1994 08:49:37 GMT ; RFC 822, updated by RFC 1123 Sunday, 06-Nov-94 08:49:37 GMT ; RFC 850, obsoleted by RFC 1036 Sun Nov 6 08:49:37 1994 ; ANSI C's asctime() format I'm pretty sure Boost date_time can do all of this, but I'm having some trouble with number 1. Does anyone already have code to do this? Perhaps I'm not using google proficiently, but I can't find an example of how to do this with boost anywhere. Thanks for any help!

    On the iPhone, if you touch and hold your finger on an icon, it starts vibrating, then you can drag them around while the other icons move aside and rearrange dynamically. I'm trying to figure out how to do this inside an application with a grid of images or buttons. I don't need them to vibrate, but I do want the UI to allow the user to drag them with real-time dynamic reordering and then return the new position (ie, an int for accessing a mutable array). Any ideas how to do this? Any sample code out there? Thanks!

    In Coldfusion, I have Master and Detail data that I need to display in two separate cfgrids; like the typical Customers/Orders scenario. My cfgrids are bound to cfc functions which populate the cfgrids. In my current dataset, only one Customer has Orders and when I click on this record in the Master datagrid the Detail datagrid displays the related records. But when I click on a record in the Master datagrid that has no related detail records, the Detail datagrid does not refresh but maintains display of the previous data. Also the search icon within the datagrid's control panel indicates it is searching for values rather than displaying the Refresh icon. Can you please show me how to establish Master and Detail cfgrids where I can see Orders of Customers as I navigate through the Master datagrid? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Maklar

    Due to CSS limitations I am forced to stack to semi-transparent images on my website. I won't go into detail regarding the CSS since if I can get this question answered the problem is moot. Anyway, I would like to modify image A in the GIMP such that it will look like it did originally after being stacked on top of image B. Both image A and image B have their opacities set to 50%. Image B is a solid color throughout, whereas image A has some minor details such as a gradient.     Hi all, I am just trying to design skype like message window , for this I have taken the NSDrawer element. It contains : a table view on left, menu items on top, text field on right bottom and text view at central portion on right side. Using text view I can play with string being displayed but I cannot draw the line between messages or round rectangle surrounding user name and time stamp.   • GenerateBootstrapper fails to create a working setup.exe

    I’m seeing some odd behaviour I can’t explain. I'm using wix to generate a msi and using the msbuild GenerateBootstrapper task to handle pre-requisites. It all seems to build correctly i.e. there are no error or warnings but the generated setup.exe won’t run. It gives a nice blank error dialog and the event log gives about the same information. The kicker is that if I drop to the command line and run msbuild manually on the project and specify the bootstrapper target it generates a correct and working setup.exe. I've used this wix article as a base and a number of questions on StackOverflow to no avail. Has anyone seen this behaviour before, better still a fix?

    Hello, I'm currently working on a symfony webapp, which is already on production. To develop and add/delete/modify functionnality of the model, I work on my laptop, using symfony 'dev' environnemment. I test if everything work fine, then I pray a little and deploy it on the prod server (with all the risk of data error, like when I add new not null attributes on the model, prod server configuration special stuff, version of php/apache etc.). The problem is that I would like to setup a "staging" server, which would be a copy of the production server (same database, same configuration apache/php), so that, if the deployment goes bad, the production user stay untouched and working, only the staging server is down. But my client has only 1 FTP available. So, the question is : can I run 2 symfony project, with different models, on the same FTP ? Or is there another way to do what I want to do ? Thank you !
