  • Error handling in the RequestHandler without embedding in URI

    When a user sends a filled form, I want to print an error message in case there is an input error. One of the GAE sample codes does this by embedding the error message in the URI. Inside the form handler (get): self.redirect('/compose?error_message=%s' % message) and in the handler (get) of redirected URI, gets the message from request: values = { 'error_message': self.request.get('error_message'), ... Is there a way to accomplish the same without embedding the message in the URI?

  • Using Property Builtin with GAE Datastore's Model

    I want to make attributes of GAE Model properties. The reason is for cases like to turn the value into uppercase before storing it. For a plain Python class, I would do something like: Foo(db.Model): def get_attr(self): return self.something def set_attr(self, value): self.something = value.upper() if value != None else None attr = property(get_attr, set_attr) However, GAE Datastore have their own concept of Property class, I looked into the documentation and it seems that I could override get_value_for_datastore(model_instance) to achieve my goal. Nevertheless, I don't know what model_instance is and how to extract the corresponding field from it. Is overriding GAE Property classes the right way to provides getter/setter-like functionality? If so, how to do it? Added: One potential issue of overriding get_value_for_datastore that I think of is it might not get called before the object was put into datastore. Hence getting the attribute before storing the object would yield an incorrect value.

  • How do I keep track of the session for each servlet request, until I use it? Singletons wont work?

    For each servlet request I get, I pass, perhaps, 10 methods before I am at where I need to check something in the session and I need the HttpSession. The only way I can get the HttpSession is from the HttpServletRequest, correct? How do I keep track of the session for each servlet request? Unfortuantly I cannot simple make a singleton (ex, SessionInformation.instance().getAttribute("name")) because that session would then be used over all requests. Is there a way to store the session globally for each request without having to pass it (or it's information) down all the methods just in case I need it?

    I have public class QuantityType { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private Key key; @Persistent private String type; } I am trying to setup a query to get the right QuantityType by it's key gql = "select * from QuantityType where __key__='aght52oobW1hIHTWVzc2FnZRiyAQw'"; But its not working because BadFilterError: BadFilterError: invalid filter: key filter value must be a Key; received aght52oobW1hIHTWVzc2FnZRiyAQw (a str). I have also tried to use gql = "select * from QuantityType where __key__=='" + KeyFactory.stringToKey(qTypeKey)+"'"; but it's now working.. How can I get a specific object from my datastore by it's key?

  • removed url from google webmaster tool, now goole don't show my website in search

    I developed the site, and I removed the url from google webmaster tool which was like "http://example.com\". I did this because google show this in search with underconstruction Title, which was my previous page. When i completed the website, i removed the url from there, and added sitemap etc to have new copy of site. Now i see in webmaster tools, that all pages are indexed, but still no success. Yahoo and Bing are showing my page when searched. Help me to fix this problem. Regards, vicky

  • How can I Query only __key__ on a Google Appengine PolyModel child?

    So the situation is: I want to optimize my code some for doing counting of records. So I have a parent Model class Base, a PolyModel class Entry, and a child class of Entry Article: How would I query Article.key so I can reduce the query load but only get the Article count. My first thought was to use: q = db.GqlQuery("SELECT __key__ from Article where base = :1", i_base) but it turns out GqlQuery doesn't like that because articles are actually stored in a table called Entry. Would it be possible to Query the class attribute? something like: q = db.GqlQuery("select __key__ from Entry where base = :1 and :2 in class", i_base, 'Article') neither of which work. Turns out the answer is even easier. But I am going to finish this question because I looked everywhere for this. q = db.GqlQuery("select __key__ from Entry where base = :1 and class = :2", i_base, 'Article')

What is a good way to test it for highloads so that I could have some statistics about how much resources 1000 average users per some period of time would take.   • errors with gae-sessions and nose

    I'm running into a few problems with adding gae-sessions to a relatively mature GAE app. I followed the readme carefully and also looked at the demo. First, just adding the gaesesions directory to my app causes the following error when running tests with nose and nose-gae: Exception ImportError: 'No module named threading' in <bound method local.__del__ of <_threading_local.local object at 0x103e10628>> ignored All the tests run fine so not a big problem but suggests that something isn't right. Next, if I add the following two lines of code: from gaesessions import get_current_session session = get_current_session() I get the following error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Users/.../unit_tests.py", line 1421, in testParseFBRequest data = tasks.parse_fb_request(sr) File "/Users/.../tasks.py", line 220, in parse_fb_request session = get_current_session() File "/Users/.../gaesessions/__init__.py", line 36, in get_current_session return _tls.current_session File "/Library/.../python2.7/_threading_local.py", line 193, in __getattribute__ return object.__getattribute__(self, name) AttributeError: 'local' object has no attribute 'current_session' Any suggestions on fixing the above would be greatly appreciated.

    Are there examples of how to pass a list of key_names to Model.get_or_insert() ? My Problem: With a method of ParentLayer I want to make the children.   • What's the next steps for moving from appengine to full django?

    Hey guys, I'm super new to programming and I've been using appengine to help me learn python and general coding. I'm getting better quickly and I'm loving it all the way :) Appengine was awesome for allowing me to just dive into writing my app and getting something live that works (see http://www.7bks.com/). But I'm realising that the longer I continue to learn on appengine the more I'm constraining myself and locking myself into a single system. I'd like to move to developing on full django (since django looks super cool!). What are my next steps? To give you a feel for my level of knowledge: I'm not a unix user I'm not familiar with command line controls (I still use appengine/python completely via the appengine SDK) I've never programmed in anything other than python, anywhere other than appengine I know the word SQL, but don't know what MySQL is really or how to use it. So, specifically: What are the skills I need to learn to get up and running with full django/python? If I'm going to host somewhere else I suppose I'll need to learn some sysadmin type skills (maybe even unix?). Is there anywhere that offers easy hosting (like appengine) but that supports django? I hear such great things about heroku I'm considering switching to RoR and going there I appreciate that I'm likely not quite ready to move away from appengine just yet but I'm a fiercely passionate learner (http://www.7bks.com/blog/179001) and would love it if I knew all the steps I needed to learn so I could set about learning them. At the moment, I don't even know what the steps are I need to learn! Thank you very much. Sorry this isn't a specific programming question but I've looked around and haven't found a good how-to for someone of my level of experience and I think others would appreciate a good roadmap for the things we need to learn to get up and running.   • SEO Google - Navigation Title vs. Page Heading

    Hi, i was wondering if anyone knows if theres a connection between what a navigation item is named and the page heading it goes to - does this have an impact on SEO? so for example, if i had in my navigation menu an item called About Us, but when you click it you come to a page with the heading Learn Who We Are (i.e. wrapped in [h1] heading tags) because there isnt an exact one-to-one match, is that a bad thing in terms of SEO? thanks

  • Render {embed} for each entry in {exp:weblog:entries} loop

    {exp:weblog:entries [args]} [content] {embed="path/to/sub-template" [args]} {/exp:weblog:entries} The sub-template only renders for the first entry, and the {embed} template tag is swallowed for all subsequent entries. Is there a way to make it render the sub-template for each iteration? Edit: stranger yet, if caching is enabled for the sub-template, it renders for each iteration—but, of course, the arguments on the embed tag aren't passed to subsequent iterations, as the sub-template is cached.

  • 3d / 2.5d game library for iphone and pc

    I'm trying to make a 2d shooter game with 3d background. The player and enemies are essentially just quads with textures. The background will be simple 3d polygons with textures and some fog and light. Therefore, I don't need a really powerful 3d library. I tried Unity3D and Torque2D, but I don't like to use their GUI editors. I prefer to work with code. So, is there a cross platform (mainly windows and iPhone) 3d / 2.5d game library, commercial or open source? I assume it will be only limited to c, c++, and object-c due to apple's new ToS.

  • Intermittent Issue Writing to Google Appengine Datastore

    Hi, I have a functioning app and recently have had intermittent problems writing to the datastore. I did not make any relevant code changes, however in the last few days my attempts to write to the datastore sometimes work and sometimes don't. I am trying to save an object that is in a many to one relationship with an existing persisted parent. So, the logic works like this: 1) Parent pulled from the datastore 2) Child created / instantiated using constructor 3) Parent.addSingleChild(child); // the "addSingleChild" method just adds the object argument to the collection of children 4) child.setParent(Parent); // sets the Parent object to the parent field I am using transactions as explained in the documentation ending with "finally {if (tx.isActive()) {tx.rollback(); } }" When the servlet is called, the parent is called from the datastore and the child object is created and added to the many to one mapping to the pre-existing parent. The child should automatically be persisted, since the parent is already persistent, and the child is added to the collection of children that map to the parent. And it worked this way in the past. However, to be sure, i did add a pm.makePersistent(child). Doesn't seem to help, still have the intermittent problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated, and if you need to see the actual code I can post. Thanks

    I get an "unrecognized HTTP method" when trying to do a REPORT request using httplib and gae. Is there a workaround available? An httplib patch for gae? Do you I have to find another host in order to do this natively?   • Appengine JDO dataclasses to python model

    Does anyone have tried to implement an app in GAE having both java and python? I have an existing app and my front end is in java. Now I want to use the existing datastore to be interfaced by python. My problem is i don't know how to define the relationships and model that would be equivalent to the one in java. I have tried the one-to-many relationship in python but when stored in the datastore, the fields are different than the one-to-many of java.
