• How to prevent Outlook from receiving multiple copies of the same email

  This question might be asked already, but it's different from this one. My boss has Outlook 2003, when he synchronize his emails while connecting through the local server (using Exchange I guess) he gets his emails normally. Once he is outside (not connection to our LAN) he gets each email duplicated 3 or 4 times. Does anyone experienced this before? and how can we fix this? Please no links to FAQ pages. For info, we are using Kaspersky anti virus and Windows 2003 server, with windows XP clients. [Update] Actually we have a bunch of 5 or 6 email accounts on Outlook, and only one of them recieve duplicated copies of the same email, all the others are cool. Further more all these email are using the sae service, Gmail for example. [Update 2] I just found out that Outlook is configured to remove emails from the server already, also, some emails exceeds 5 copies! Thank you

• slow network in centos5 VM with centos5 host running KVM

  I setup KVM following the guide here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/centos-rhel-linux-kvm-virtulization-tutorial/ I setup a bridged network and it worked fine except that the transfer speed is 200KB/s instead of the gigabit speed that I get on the host machine by itself. I tried editing the guest network settings to set "model=virtio" http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Virtio but this just moves ifconfig-eth0 to ifconfig-eth0.bak in the VM and networking doesn't work at all. I tried moving ifconfig-eth0 back and starting up eth0, which works, but now the transfer speed is ~ 60KB/s I have no idea what else to try. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  I have a CardScan 60 II device and installed SANE in my Ubuntu 10.10 laptop. The problem is I can't make scanimage find the device. Stack Overflow Podcast -  Jeff Atwood (of codinghorror.com) and Joel Spolsky (of joelonsoftware.com) discuss the development of their new programming community, StackOverflow.com. [This Podcast hasn’t been updated in a while, but its always great to hear more from Jeff Atwood] Hanselminutes - Hanselminutes is a weekly audio talk show with noted web developer and technologist Scott Hanselman and hosted by Carl Franklin. Scott discusses utilities and tools, gives practical how-to advice, and discusses ASP.NET or Windows issues and workarounds. [This Podcast has recently started talking about random topics like diabetes, plane travel and geek relationship tips.  I am not sure if Scott is trying to move to a more mainstream audience or not] Herding Code - A weekly discussion featuring K. Scott Allen (odetocode.com), Kevin Dente, Scott Koon (lazycoder.com), and Jon Galloway. [Great all all-around podcast that I would recommend to all] Deep Fried Bytes - Deep Fried Bytes is an audio talk show with a Southern flavor hosted by technologists and developers Keith Elder and Chris Woodruff. The show discusses a wide range of topics including application development, operating systems and technology in general. Anything is fair game if it plugs into the wall or takes a battery. [This is one that just keeps getting better] Dot Net Rocks - .NET Rocks! is an Internet Audio Talk Show for Microsoft .NET Developers. [One of the first and usually very high quality content] Connected Show - Connected Show Podcast! A podcast covering new Microsoft technology for the developer community. The show is hosted by Dmitry Lyalin and Peter Laudati. [This and Polymorphic are one of my favorite podcast – Dmitry is a great host and would recommend this to all] Polymorphic Podcast - Object oriented development, architecture and best practices in .NET [Craig is a ASP.NET MVP and a great presenter. His podcast is great and it could only be better if he recorded it more often] ASP.NET Podcast - Wallace B. (Wally) McClure presents interviews and short technical talks on .NET Technologies. [Has great information on ASP.NET of course as well as iPhone Dev] Ruby on Rails Podcast - News and interviews about the Ruby language and the Rails website framework. [Even though I am not a Ruby programmer, I’ve found this podcast very interesting] Software Engineering Radio - Software Engineering Radio is a podcast targeted at the professional software developer. The goal is to be a lasting educational resource, not a newscast. Every ten days, a new episode is published that covers all topics software engineering. Episodes are either tutorials on a specific topic, or an interview with a well-known character from the software engineering world. All SE Radio episodes are original content ? we do not record conferences or talks given in other venues. Each episode comprises two speakers to ensure a lively listening experience. SE Radio is an independent and non-commercial organization. • Need help generating a core dump from apache segfault

  I have a script which intermittently returns a white screen of death in firefox and Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error. chrome. When I try to access the script using a PHP HTTP client (like Zend_Http_Client), intermittently I get an exception (sorry I don't have the exact message on me at the moment). I suspect a segfault. This is further buttressed by the lines in my error log that look like this: [Thu Mar 18 16:03:02 2010] [notice] child pid 845 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Now, I'm running RedHat, and I know that RedHat doesn't generate core dumps out-of-the-box. I followed the instructions here http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-5353, but I'm not seeing any core dumps. How do I generate a core dump?

  When you press C-h i in Emacs, it shows what's called the top of the INFO tree, and it links to all kinds of manuals: AUCTeX, Org Mode, Emacs, Emacs FAQ, Emacs Lisp Intro, Elisp, ... . Is there a place where I can download all of them at once as html files? GNU Home page has links to some of them in html format: http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/elisp.html_node.tar.gz http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/emacs.html_node.tar.gz But I cannot find a link to a single tar.gz file packing all of them.

• Windows7 NFS with linux server

  Hi. I have an Ubuntu server and want to access its web folder (/var/www). What I done: installed nfs-kernel-server, nfs-common and portmap (as in faq) Setted up /etc/exports: /var/www 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0(rw,no_roow_squash,async,subtree_check) Then: sudo exportfs -ra Then: sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernle-server restart I checked, if all works on same machine: sudo 192.168.1.101:/var/www /mnt/test Then accessed /mnt/test and seen that all data present and all ok. Next, I tried to connect this folder to windows7 using NFS client: First, I checked, that linux exported path successfully: showmount -e 192.168.1.101 /var/www 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 All ok, go to mount: mount -o anon 192.168.1.101:/var/www z: Console said, that all success.. but. I cant access drive Z (drive exists in the system and point to right folder). When I try to access drive Z my Explorer just going to sleep and then say that timeout expired. Help me please.

• Setting user calendar permissions on Exchange 2007

  We have Exchange 2007 with about 100 users. I would like to change everyone's free/busy permissions to grant Reviewer status to a specific AD group. I have tried PFDAVAdmin tool but when I commit any changes, they do not affect the users. If I grant myself Reviewer permissions to another user's calendar using the tool, I still cannot view that user's free/busy details, and I also don't show up on the list of people with permissions on that user's Outlook calendar options. It seems like PFDAVAdmin simply appears to do something, but doesn't actually change anything. Is there any other way for me to accomplish what I need to do? Or is there something I may not be doing right with PFDAVAdmin? • St. Louis ALT.NET

  I’m a huge fan of the St. Louis .NET User Group and a regular attendee of their meetings, but always wished there was a local group that discussed more advanced .NET topics. (That’s not a criticism of the group - I appreciate that they want to server developers with a broad range of skill levels). That’s why I was thrilled when Nicholas Cloud started a St. Louis ALT.NET group in 2010. Here’s the “about us” statement from the group’s web site: The ALT.NET community is a loosely coupled, highly cohesive group of like-minded individuals who believe that the best developers do not align themselves with platforms and languages, but with principles and ideas. In 2007, David Laribee created the term "ALT.NET" to explain this "alternative" view of the Microsoft development universe--a view that challenged the "Microsoft-only" approach to software development. He distilled his thoughts into four key developer characteristics which form the basis of the ALT.NET philosophy: You're the type of developer who uses what works while keeping an eye out for a better way. You reach outside the mainstream to adopt the best of any community: Open Source, Agile, Java, Ruby, etc. You're not content with the status quo. Things can always be better expressed, more elegant and simple, more mutable, higher quality, etc. You know tools are great, but they only take you so far. It's the principles and knowledge that really matter. The best tools are those that embed the knowledge and encourage the principles (e.g. Resharper.) The St. Louis ALT.NET meetup group is a place where .NET developers can learn, share, and critique approaches to software development on the .NET stack. We cater to the highest common denominator, not the lowest, and want to help all St. Louis .NET developers achieve a superior level of software craftsmanship. I don’t see a lot of ALT.NET talk in blogs these days. The movement was harmed early on by the negative attitudes of some of its early leaders, including jerk moves like the Entity Framework “vote of no confidence”, but I do see occasional mentions of local groups like the St. Louis one. I think ALT.NET has been successful at bringing some of its ideas into the .NET world, including heavily influencing ASP.NET MVC and raising the general level of software craftsmanship for developers working on the Microsoft stack. The ideas and ideals live on, they’re just not branded as “this is ALT.NET!” In the past 18 months, St. Louis ALT.NET meetups have discussed topics like: NHibernate F# and other functional languages AOP CoffeeScript “How Ruby Is Making Me a Stronger C# Developer” Using rake for builds CQRS .NET dynamic programming micro web frameworks – Nancy & Jessica Git ALT.NET doesn’t mean (to me, anyway) “alternatives to .NET”, but “alternatives for .NET”. We look at how things are done in Ruby and other languages/platforms, but always with the idea “What can I learn from this to take back to my “day job” with .NET?”. Meetings are held at 7PM on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the offices of Professional Employment Group. PEG is located at 999 Executive Parkway (Suite 100 – lower level) in Creve Coeur (South of Olive off of Mason Road - Here's a map). • If sudo is broken, what should be used instead?

  I found the following answer to a FAQ question about a security problem in Oprofile: This "problem" only occurs if you actively, and mistakenly, configure access to OProfile via sudo. OProfile uses shell scripts which have not been audited (nor is it likely to happen) for use through the broken sudo facility (anything that lets you alter root's path arbitrarily counts as horribly broken). Do not use sudo! As I see it, the author of the answer suggests that sudo is broken, so that it should not be used not only with oprofile, but for other purposes as well. Are there better alternatives to sudo in Linux?

• How can I download a phpbb forum with wget including password protected sections?

  I want to make a download of a forum I moderate, before it closes for good. There's some useful info on it I want to save for myself and I don't want to export the data to another webserver, I just want the pages. Mind you, I'm a user at the forum, not the admin. Now, I googled this and found it can be easily done with wget: How can I download an entire (active) phpbb forum? I used: wget -k -m -E -p -np -R viewtopic.php*p=*,memberlist.php*,faq.php*,posting.php*,search.php*,ucp.php*,viewonline.php*,*sid*,*view=print*,*start=0* -o log.txt http://www.example.com/forum/ I experimented with this, but I can only achieve downloading the publicly visible sections, not the sections you have to log in for. I tried to achieve this by using a Firefox plugin to make a cookies.txt (while my session is logged into the forum) and add --load-cookies file cookies.txt to the command, but still I only get the publicly visible sections. Any suggestions to make this work?

• Is Centos legal?

  I'm trying to figure out if centos is legal (or simply grey). Here's what makes me wonder: They seem to go to great pains not to mention that they are based on redhat in the FAQ they mention a policy about using the redhat trademark, but the link no longer exists. When installing it it's not hard to find a lot of redhat code. I don't bother much with the linux world anymore but I had a client that was wondering about it as his auditors picked up on it and wanted to know where his license was.

• Encrypting a non-linux partition with LUKS.

  I have a non-Linux partition I want to encrypt with LUKS. The goal is to be able to store it by itself on a device without Linux and access it from the device when needed with an Ubuntu Live CD. I know LUKS can't encrypt partitions in place, so I created another, unformatted partition of the EXACT same size (using GParted's "Round to MiB" option) and ran this command: sudo cryptsetup luksFormat /dev/xxx Where xxx is the partition's device name. Then I typed in my new passphrase and confirmed it. Oddly, the command exited immediately after, so I guess it doesn't encrypt the entire partition right away? Anyway, then I ran this command: sudo cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/xxx xxx Then I tried copying the contents of the existing partition (call it yyy) to the encrypted one like this: sudo dd if=/dev/yyy of=/dev/mapper/xxx bs=1MB and it ran for a while, but exited with this: dd: writing `/dev/mapper/xxx': No space left on device just before writing the last MB. I take this to mean the contents of yyy was truncated when it was copied to xxx, because I have dd'd it before, and whenever I have dd'd to a partition of the exact same size, I never get that error. (and fdisk reports they are the same size in blocks). After a little Googling I discovered all luksFormat'ted partitions have a custom header followed by the encrypted contents. So it appears I need to create a partition exactly the size of the old one + however many bytes a LUKS header is. What size should the destination partition be, no. 1, and no. 2, am I even on the right track here? UPDATE I found this in the LUKS FAQ: I think this is overly complicated. Is there an alternative? Yes, you can use plain dm-crypt. It does not allow multiple passphrases, but on the plus side, it has zero on disk description and if you overwrite some part of a plain dm-crypt partition, exactly the overwritten parts are lost (rounded up to sector borders). So perhaps I shouldn't be using LUKS at all?

• Mac OS X & Linux: mount_nfs: can't access /nfs: Permission denied

  I have an Ubuntu 12.04 NFS server and I have an iMac NFS client running OS X 10.6.8. I believe I have everything set up properly, yet I still get this error on the Mac: mount_nfs: can't access /nfs: Permission denied My exports on the Linux server uses the insecure option like this: /export/home/me/ 192.168.100.132(rw,subtree_check,insecure,nohide) Where 192.168.100.132 is the address of my Mac. I have even tried using -o resvport on the Mac (in addition to insecure on Linux) and I still get the same error as above. $ sudo mount -t nfs -o resvport 192.168.100.1:/home/me /Users/me/mount Here is the output of showmount: # showmount -e 192.168.100.1 Export list for 192.168.100.1: /export/home/me 192.168.100.132 .... I have reviewed this similar question: How to mount NFS export on Mac OS X? And I have reviewed this frequently recommended tutorial: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/apple-mac-osx-nfs-mount-command-tutorial/ I still can't find a solution. Any ideas?

  What a difference a year makes, indeed. Steve Harris, Senior VP, App Server Dev, Oracle and Adam Messinger, VP, Fusion Middleware Group, Oracle presented an informative keynote at the TheServerSide Java Symposium today. With a title "Java in Flux: Utopia or Deuteranopia?" you know things are going to be interesting (see Aeon Flux if you don't get the title reference).What a YearThey started with a little background, explaining that the reactions to Oracle's acquisition of Sun (and therefore Java) one year ago varied greatly, from "Freak Out!" to "Don't Panic." From the Oracle perspective, being the steward of and key contributor to Java requires a lot of sausage making.  They admitted to Oracle's fair share of Homer Simpson-esque "D'oh" moments in the past year, which was complicated by Oracle's communication style.   "Oracle has a tradition has a saying a few things and sticking by then, in contrast to Sun who was much more open," Adam explained. "We laid out the Java roadmap and are executing on it, and we hope that speaks to our commitment."Java SEAdam talked about having a long term perspective on the Java language (20+ years), letting ideas mature in more experimental languages, then bringing them into Java. Current priorities include: JVM convergence (getting the best features of JRockit into Hotspot); support of parallel/multi-core programming, and of course, all the improvements in JDK7. The JDK7 Developer Preview is underway (please download now and report bugs!). The Oracle development team is also working on Lambda and modularity (Jigsaw) for SE 8. Less certain, but also under discussion are improvements for Java SE 9. Adam is thinking of it as a "back to basics" release. He mentioned reworking JNI, improving data integration and improved device support.Java EE To provide context about Java EE, Steve said Java EE was great at getting businesses on the internet. The success of Java EE resulted in an incredible expansion of the middleware marketplace for developers and vendors.  But with success, came more. Java EE kept piling on capabilities, but that created excess baggage.  Doing simple things was no longer so simple. That's where Java community is so valuable: "When Java EE was too complex and heavyweight, many people were happy to tell us what we were doing wrong and popularize solutions," Steve explained. Because of that feedback, the Java EE teams focused on making things simple again: POJOs and annotations, and leveraging changes in Java SE.  Steve said that "innovation doesn't happen in expert groups, it happens on the ground where developers are solving problems," and platform stewards need to pay attention and take advantage of changes that are taking place.Enter the Cloud "Developers are restless, they want cloud functionality from their own IT dept" Steve explained. With the cloud, the scope of problem has expanded to include the data center itself, with multiple tenants. To move forward, existing APIs in Java EE need to be updated to be tenant-aware, service-enabled, and EE needs to support various styles of deployment. The goal is to get all that done in Java EE 8.Adam questioned Steve about timing and schedule. "Yes, the schedule is aggressive, but it'll work" Steve said. Then Adam asked about modularization. If Java SE 8 comes out at the end of 2012, when can Java EE deliver modularization? Steve suggested that key stakeholders can come with up some pre-SE 8 agreement on how to expose the metadata about modules. He then alluded to Mark Reinhold and John Duimovich's keynote at EclipseCON next week. • How do you educate your teammates without seeming condescending or superior?

  I work with three other guys; I'll call them Adam, Brian, and Chris. Adam and Brian are bright guys. Give them a problem; they will figure out a way to solve it. When it comes to OOP, though, they know very little about it and aren't particularly interested in learning. Pure procedural code is their MO. Chris, on the other hand, is an OOP guy all the way -- and a cocky, condescending one at that. He is constantly criticizing the work Adam and Brian do and talking to me as if I must share his disdain for the two of them. When I say that Adam and Brian aren't interested in learning about OOP, I suspect Chris is the primary reason. This hasn't bothered me too much for the most part, but there have been times when, looking at some code Adam or Brian wrote, it has pained me to think about how a problem could have been solved so simply using inheritance or some other OOP concept instead of the unmaintainable mess of 1,000 lines of code that ended up being written instead. And now that the company is starting a rather ambitious new project, with Adam assigned to the task of getting the core functionality in place, I fear the result. Really, I just want to help these guys out. But I know that if I come across as just another holier-than-thou developer like Chris, it's going to be massively counterproductive. I've considered: Team code reviews -- everybody reviews everybody's code. This way no one person is really in a position to look down on anyone else; besides, I know I could learn plenty from the other members on the team as well. But this would be time-consuming, and with such a small team, I have trouble picturing it gaining much traction as a team practice. Periodic e-mails to the team -- this would entail me sending out an e-mail every now and then discussing some concept that, based on my observation, at least one team member would benefit from learning about. The downside to this approach is I do think it could easily make me come across as a self-appointed expert. Keeping a blog -- I already do this, actually; but so far my blog has been more about esoteric little programming tidbits than straightforward practical advice. And anyway, I suspect it would get old pretty fast if I were constantly telling my coworkers, "Hey guys, remember to check out my new blog post!" This question doesn't need to be specifically about OOP or any particular programming paradigm or technology. I just want to know: how have you found success in teaching new concepts to your coworkers without seeming like a condescending know-it-all? It's pretty clear to me there isn't going to be a sure-fire answer, but any helpful advice (including methods that have worked as well as those that have proved ineffective or even backfired) would be greatly appreciated. If not, can anyone independent of OpenCandy and their affiliates verify that /NOCANDY works? Background: About to install WinSCP onto a fresh Windows installation, and found out that new versions have OpenCandy associated with their installer. For the sake of balance, here's a link to WinSCP's FAQ on OpenCandy. The claim about /NOCANDY working appears on WinSCP's web site, but the same boilerplate appears on other OpenCandy web sites. • Zoneminder camera permanently idle

  I have an Ubuntu server with zoneminder installed. I only have one camera (cheap Logitech USB model) and it seems to be permanently idle. • Attach a Wordpress.org blog to my BigCommerce Store as a sub-domain

  I am stuck in a peculiar situation. I have a store on BigCommerce configured with a domain from GoDaddy (mystore.com). I recently created a custom wordpress blog and hosted it on 1and1 hosting (s418783372.onlinehome.us), since bigcommerce can't host Wordpress. Now, I want to use it from a sub-domain of my main-bigcommerece store (models.mystore.com), but it doesn't seem to be working since BigCommerce is the Domain Manager, but GoDaddy is the Domain-Registrar and 1and1 is the host so it doesn't control the domain. I have tried setting up a CNAME record on BigCommerece and when it didn't work asked BigCommerece about it, but they said they can't do anything about it since they aren't the domain registrar and gave me a message saying: The responsiblity to show the name in the browser on the site is up to the server or site admin. The Cname can only get the browser there UPDATE: I succeeded in setting up a CNAME on BigCommerce poinitng to the site at 1and1, but for some-reason, all it gives me is a 404-Not-Found error. I was thinking this is due to a restriction on 1and1, any idea on how to overcome that? Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I tried adding a domain on the 1and1 control panel (http://faq.1and1.co.uk/domains/domain_xfers/dns_transfer/4.html), pointing to models.mystore.com, but it isn't letting me add a Sub-Domain, there... UPDATE: I added mystore.com as an external domain and them added models.mystore.com as a sub-domain on the 1and1 hosting Domains panel. And it works :) Thank you all

• How do I enable the globalmenu / appmenu on XFCE?

  I have tried various tricks I could find to install the global menu on xfce and lxde on the latest oneiric, but nothing worked. Does anyone have an idea on how to do that? Thanks. Here's what I've tried so far: the gnome global menu panel plugin (for lucid) via the xfapplet plugin (not in the official repos anymore) that can embedd gnome plugins into the xfce panel - unfortunately, the globalmenu doesn't show up in the xfapplet list of available gnome plugins (there's only one item in it) all instructions from an older question about globalmenu and its duplicate compiling manually the latest version from gnome2-globalmenu there is another question along with a solution for XFCE 4.8, but it's not working on Oneiric. It is also proposing to install the global menu applet from gnome using it via xfapplet. I've even found an XFCE-plugin for the global menu, but it keeps crashing when I add it to the panel - also I could not install all the packages due to some unmet dependencies I've added some code to ~/.config/xfce4/xinitrc as described in 10. of the FAQ of gnome2-globalmenu though I'm not sure what effect this should have.

Wow, thanks to fantastic corporations and acquisitions there are lots of courses available. Nicely split by SharePoint version as well as particular interest group. Additionally, I found a couple of online blogs and community sites that I'm going to visit regularly during the next couple of weeks. We'll see... Anyway, apart from the video material I came across a couple of other websites which I'd like to list here, too. Takeaway First contact with the 'real stuff' in order to get an idea about software development in Microsoft SharePoint and beyond. Unfortunately and as already expected, the marketing department over at Microsoft seemed to have nothing better to do than to invent new names and baptise literally the same product with every release. Luckily, the release cycles between versions have been three years (roughly) - 2007, 2010, and 2013. Nonetheless, there will be a lot of version-specfic issues to tackle during this learning phase. Especially, when it's about historical expressions like 'WSS'* like I had it yesterday... It's going to be exciting and demanding to catch up with roughly 6-7 years of development and changes. Okay, let's face it. * WSS stands for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 which forms the 'core engine' of SharePoint 2007. Part 1 of Andrew Connell's series on SharePoint 2013 for developers provides a brief history and overview of the various product names and their relation to the actual SharePoint version. Most probably the client development in C# will be using CSOM but of course I'll keep an eye on the REST API, too. JavaScript has quite a momentum since a while and it would a shame to ignore this type of opportunity and possibilities.
