    Question: How does the .NET regex string to extract IPv6 addresses look like ? I can get it to extract a simple IPv6 address like "1050:0:0:0:5:600:300c:326b" but not the colon format ("ff06::c3"); My problem is, it should extract a 0 for every omitted value between the :: How do I do that? Below my code + description. Specify IPv6 addresses by omitting leading zeros. For example, IPv6 address 1050:0000:0000:0000:0005:0600:300c:326b may be written as 1050:0:0:0:5:600:300c:326b. Double colon Specify IPv6 addresses by using double colons (::) in place of a series of zeros. For example, IPv6 address ff06:0:0:0:0:0:0:c3 may be written as ff06::c3.   • Case insensitive string compare in LINQ-to-SQL

    I've read that it's unwise to use ToUpper and ToLower to perform case-insensitive string comparisons, but I see no alternative when it comes to LINQ-to-SQL. The ignoreCase and CompareOptions arguments of String.Compare are ignored by LINQ-to-SQL (if you're using a case-sensitive database, you get a case-sensitive comparison even if you ask for a case-insensitive comparison). Is ToLower or ToUpper the best option here? Is one better than the other? I thought I read somewhere that ToUpper was better, but I don't know if that applies here. (I'm doing a lot of code reviews and everyone is using ToLower.) Here's what I'm doing with the skins, I have a folder which contains some images and a xml file which maps the images to the keyboard, I want to be able to have the folder as a zip file like in Office 2007 (.docx) and iPhone firmwares (.ipsw), I know I can simply zip the folder and change the extension, what I need to know is how to read the files in the code.     Hi, I am wanting to create a Where statement within my Linq statement, but have hit a bit of a stumbling block. I would like to split a string value, and then search using each array item in the Where clause. In my normal Sql statement I would simply loop through the string array, and build up there Where clause then either pass this to a stored procedure, or just execute the sql string.   • VS2010's "Public Property <PropertyName> As <DataType> vs. Public var

    In VS2008, I used to type Public Property <PropName> As <dataType> and hit the Enter key and the IDE editor would automatically expand it out to a full blown property block. Now, from what I understand, a new feature of 2010 is that the compiler automatically "expands" the short syntax above into the same IL code that you would get with the full property GET AND SET sub methods that were are accustomed to seeing before in the editor. But functionality, how the heck is this any different than just having a Public class level variable? If the only diff is what it compiles to and if otehrwise there is no functional difference, isn't the new way less efficient than the old since it involves more code than just having a class level memory variable? Public as I thought that if you weren't going to have code behind your properties that they were essentially the same. I guess the diffrenece is that they just added the keyword "Property" but functionality, their is no diff, eh?

  • What's the reason both Image and Bitmap classes don't implement a custom equality/hashcode logic?

    From MSDN documentation, it seems as both GetHashCode() and Equals() haven't been overriden in Bitmap. Neither have them been overriden in Image. So both classes are using the Object's version of them just compares references. I wasn't too convinced so I decided to fire up Reflector to check it out. It seems MSDN is correct in that matter. So, is there any special reason why MS guys wouldn't implement "comparison logic", at least for the Bitmap class? I find it is kinda acceptable for Image, as it is an abstract class, but not so much for the Bitmap class. I can see in a lot of situations calculating the hash code can be an expensive operation, but it'd be alright if it used some kind of lazy evaluation (storing the computed hash code integer in a variable a variable, so it wouldn't have to calculate it later again). When wanting to compare 2 bitmaps, will I have to resort to having to run all over the picture comparing each one of its pixels? Thanks

  • If Then Else Statement Condition Being Ignored?

    I think im going mad but can some show me what im missing, it must be some stupidly simple i just cant see the wood for the trees. BOTH side of this if then else statement are being executed? Ive tried commenting out the true side and moving the condition to a seperate variable with the same result. However if i explicitly set the condition to 1=0 or 1=1 then the if then statement is operating as i would expect. i.e. only executing one side of the equation... The only time ive seen this sort of thing is when the compiler has crashed and is no longer compiling (without visible indication that its not) but ive restarted studio with the same results, ive cleaned the solution, built and rebuilt with no change? please show me the stupid mistake im making using vs2005 if it matters.   • Windows Forms: Unable to Click to Focus a MaskedTextBox in a Non TopLevel Form

    Like the title says, I've got a Child form being shown with it's TopLevel property set to False and I am unable to click a MaskedTextBox control that it contains (in order to bring focus to it). I can bring focus to it by using TAB on the keyboard though. The child form contains other regular TextBox controls and these I can click to focus with no problems, although they also exhibit some odd behavior: for example if I've got a value in the Textbox and I try to drag-click from the end of the string to the beginning, nothing happens. In fact I can't use my mouse to move the cursor inside the TextBox's text at all (although they keyboard arrow keys work). I'm not too worried about the odd TextBox behavior, but why can't I activate my MaskedTextBox by clicking on it?   • Gridview delete/edit not working when using select parameter

    new to ASP.NET. I created a sqldatasource and set up basic select query (SELECT * FROM Accounts) using the wizard. I then had the sqldatasource wizard create the INSERT, EDIT and DELETE queries. Connected this datasource to a gridview with EDITING and DELETING enabled. Everything works fine. The SELECT query returns all records and I can edit/delete them. Now I need to send a parameter to the SELECT command to filter the records to those with the user's id (pulled from Membership.GetUser). When I add this parameter, the SELECT command works fine, but the EDIT/DELETE buttons in the gridview no longer work. No error is generated. The page refreshes but the records were not updated in the database. I don't understand what is wrong.   • How to capture SQL with parameters substituted in? (.NET, SqlCommand)

    Hello, If there an easy way to get a completed SQL statement back after parameter substitution? I.e., I want to keep a logfile of all the SQL this program runs. Or if I want to do this, will I just want to get rid of Parameters, and do the whole query the old school way, in one big string?   • ASP.NET web setup class is not defined

    Hi, I've got an ASP.NET application that I installed by creating a web setup. I ran into a problem where ASP.NET wasn't registered with IIS so it gave me a "installation was interrupted" message that told me exactly nothing. Anyhow, I finally got it installed, and I can access the main page, but it's telling me that my class isn't defined. The dll is in the same directory as the Default.aspx page Here's the main error information Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'SIValidator.SIValidator' is not defined.   • Editing a Gridview row with drop-down lists gets too wide - how can I use popup panels instead?

    I have a series of GridViews in a Tab Panel - databound to a generic List of Business Objects. The columns in the Gridview are all similar to the following: <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Company" SortExpression="Company.ShortName"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblCompany" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Company.ShortName") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCompany" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> The GridView generates the "Edit" link at the beginning of the row, all the events fire ok. The problem is that the data is getting long. When in 'display mode', it's fine because the GridView control is smart enough to break some text into multiple lines (in particular Project, Title and Worker names can get pretty long). The problem come in editing mode. Drop-down lists DON'T break entries into multiple lines (for obvious reasons). Going into Edit ode on a row in the Gridview can make the Griview expand horizontally to twice the screen size (blowing through the width limits in the Master page and CSS but that's only a related problem). What I need is something like the ModalPopup - but trying to tie it to an ID in an EditItemTemplate gives me errors when the page renders (because the 'ddlXXXX' doesn't exist at the time). In addition I don't know how to dynamically populate the panel so that I can get a response from it (like the ID of the Company they selected). I'm also trying to avoid javascript and would like this to be a 'pure' aspx/code-behind solution (for simplicity's sake among others). All the examples I find are of Modal Popups with the panels pre-defined. Even if it (the popup panel) were something like a list of checkboxes, it could be databound to the SortedList I have ready to go and an OK/Cancel button combination to accept or ignore things. I'm just not sure of what goes where. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.
