• How do I fix my installation of ATI Catalyst Video Drivers in 12.04 LTS?

  My graphic card is a Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series. I tried these 2 answers from What is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers in 12.04 LTS? But unfortunately, it does not work for me: When running the amd script, I get this error message: $ sudo sh ./amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run ... DKMS part of installation failed. Please refer to /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log for details When checking this log file, I get: Uninstalling any previously installed drivers. • Gnome shell not starting at login, but can start from terminal (Ubuntu 12.04)

  I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 recently and for some reason it broke Gnome 3. The shell doesn't start up at login.   Just a day ago, I was doing small attempting to connect to my local SQL Server using IP 127.0.0.1. The IP is of my local machine and SQL Server is installed on the local box as well. However, whenever I try to connect to the server it gave me following strange error. Cannot connect to 127.0.0.1. Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452) The reason was indeed strange as I was trying to connect from local box to local box and it said my login was from an untrusted domain. As my system is not part of any domain, this was really confusing to me. Another thing was that I have been always able to connect always using 127.0.0.1 to SQL Server and this was a bit strange to me. I started to think what did I change since it  last time I connected to SQL Server. Suddenly I remembered that I had modified my computer’s host file for some other purpose. Solution: I opened my host file and immediately added entry like 127.0.0.1 localhost. Once I added it I was able to reconnect to SQL Server as usual. The location of the host file is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. You will find file with the name hosts in it, make sure to open it with notepad. If you are part of a domain and your organization is using active directory, make sure that your account is added properly to active directory as well have proper security permissions to execute the task.   I'm getting errors in ~/.xession-errors. I'm running ubuntu 12.04 Many apps fail to run without mention of problems in the .xsession-errors file. I looked around and tried to resolve issues myself but failed so far. I have to say it's possible that the issue is related to me mounting /home on another partition. (I say possibly because stuff worked ok for a while.) Fortunately my .xsession-errors file is small enough to post here. We know that the server aint got a valid https certificate with the path used (and we're not even sure if its fully release yet... ) but to bypass this issue, we use the following code that we've taken somewhere here in another post. Edit: To be more clear, I need a way to inspect or trigger the client-side validation result of the textbox, when I click the unrelated button beside it. Edit: I now have the button JS checking for $("form").validate().invalid, but not displaying the usual validation messages. Almost there Any ideas?

  I have the following bit of code that worked as expected before we upgraded to Integrated Pipeline in IIS7. public void RedirectPermanently(string url, bool clearCookies) { Response.ClearContent(); Response.StatusCode = 301; Response.AppendHeader("Location", url); if(clearCookies) { Response.Cookies.Clear(); Response.Flush(); Response.End(); } } Previously when this method was executed, if clearCookies was true, the response would be sent to the client and request processing would end. Now under Integrated Pipeline Response.End() does not seem to end processing. The page continues running as if the method was never called. Big question is, why and what changed! Thanks.

  Hey, I'm helping out a friend with a website he's developing and we are having trouble with preloading images on request. Basically, when the user clicks on a thumbnail of the product a <div> slides down that includes a scrolling carrousel of large images. In total there are about 20MB of images that could be loaded in (if you did them all) so preloading them on the page load would not be an option. Is there a way that we could call a javascript function that begins to preload about 4 images and then when it's done it has a callback function? Thanks! P.S. We are using jQuery on the page...

• Has glassfish 2.1.1 a bug handling http request and handle them twice?

  I'm using glassfish 2.1.1. I've watched a mysterious http/webservice-call handling. It seams an http request is handled by two different threads. After http basic authentication the first thread is faster. Persisting some data end, but writing response fails in glassfish internal. The second thread fails, because it tries to persist identical data and there are (unique) constrain failures. The response (the failure) of second thread was delivered to client. I don't won't discuss the behavior with the unique constrain failure. I've improve the webservice, so it can handle this better, because it could be happen anytime, that the client send the ws call a second time. But I think, glassfish 2.1.1 has an bug handling http request. Is there any known issue? Have I done an mistake? • Tomcat 5.5, Is there a max upload speed per request?

  I am having an issue when uploading files to tomcat. It seems that tomcat (or something else?) will not handle the upload as fast as I can send it. When uploading multiple files concurrently I can max out my local connection upload speed (2.1MB/s). However, when uploading only one file at a time, no matter how small or large the file, the upload will max out around 400KB/s. I have tried setting the appReadBufSize higher but it makes no difference. Is there something else that would be limiting the upload speed per request? I am using MVC 2.0 and in my controller I need to call a webservice that is a common import interface requires the files to passed in as byte[]. .NET exposes Request.Files as a HttpFileCollectionBase and I access the filehandle using HttpPostedFile or HttpPostedFileBase that provides access to the Stream member. What is the best way for me to read the bytes from the stream? BinaryReader? StreamReader? BufferedStream?

• ASP.NET MVC: Is it "wrong" to use HTTP 500 via an AJAX request to return invalid form content?

  Here's the situation: I've got two partial views. One has a form. What needs to happen is when the form is posted via an AJAX request, if the operation succeeds, the area with the second partial is repopulated with the content. However, if the posted data was invalid, the original partial is repopulated with an error message. I'm using jQuery and the ajaxForm plugin to handle the form posts and responses. Would it be "wrong"/bad coding/wtf-worthy to conditionally use $.html() to replace the content in one area when it's a 200, and a different area if it's a 500? To me, this idea smells, but I'm not sure how else to accomplish the goal.

  My application neeeds to access a third part web service. Of late, they have introduced a load balancer, which redirects to the server. Because of this the webservice gets a 302 - Redirect error as response. In the SOAPUI, I was able to enable a property called "Follow Redirect", and because of this service followed the redirect and served by the server. Now is there a similar propety that can be turned on in the code, which would make the webservice follow the request? (The calling code is java and the webservice is in .net)

  Perhaps it's a syntax error, but I never assume that. • How to get "paster request" to use config host value instead of localhost?

  I'm trying to access my pylons application via cron job to send notifications to my users. The way I'm doing this is by running the application using something like: paster request myconfig.ini /maintenance/do In the actual controller I check for the "paste.command_request" to block public access. Everything works but the only problem is that within the notifications that I send to my users there is a link to their profile and the host is "localhost" which should instead be the domain name of the application. When the notifications are sent from within the served application (say, a user modifies their settings on the site) the notifications have the correct url. I am using mako to render my email tamplates and within the template I am using the "pylons.url" method with "qualified" set to "True". Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

  I am optimization my web page by implementing caching, so if I want the browser not to take data from cache, then I will append a dynamic number as query value. eg: google.com?val=823746 But some time, if I want to bring data from cache for the below url, the browser is making a new http request to server, its not taking data from cache. • Jetty 7 Continuations: How to *not* redispatch the request?

  I'm using Jetty 7 continuations to implement some asynchronous processing. What I'm trying to do is start off the continuation (via .suspend()), and then hand the continuation off to some other object that will compose the response, which works fine. But Jetty keeps redispatching the response (with isInitial = false) to the servlet, and I don't want or need that, because the response is being dealt with by some other object. So, I'd like to find a way to explicitly not redispatch the request on timeout or expire, because I'm using an event-driven series of callbacks to actually produce the response.

• How to handle request-wise DB transactions in ASP.NET MVC?

  I'm using SubSonic 3.0 (SimpleRepository) to handle database access in my ASP.NET MVC 1.0 application. It would be nice to handle a transaction for every web request, committing if everything went smooth and rolling back in case of exception. Is this possible? If so, how? I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I just couldn't find a satisfactory answer. I have built my own solution (create a TransactionScope in the controller, then commit/rollback in OnActionExecuted), but it turns out to be very unreliable.
