• Is it valid for RSS feeds to include images with relative paths?

  I have an app which reads lots of RSS feeds. Someone added a feed recently that includes images in the html portion with relative URLS (i.e. it didn't include the http://www.domain.com/ part in front). Is this valid html for an RSS feed? I thought not, but I tried adding the feed to my Google reader and it picked up the images correctly, so they must be doing something smart where they guess the domain based on the feed's url parameter or something. Even if it's not valid, how common is it to see feeds like this in the wild? To display it correctly would require you to parse the html in the feed and find/replace parts of it to insert full URL's, so this seems wrong. But wanted to double check.

• How am I supposed to deploy an ASP.NET MVC 4.0 website?

  What's the recommended way to deploy a website created with ASP.NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010? I've previously always added a web setup project to my solution, and used that to create an MSI, even for small applications. But when I build a web setup project in VS2010 it kind of works but some stuff still seems broken: 1. I need to turn on IIS 6 Compatibility on a Win 2008 R2 box to get the msi to run. 2. The msi includes web.config, web.debug.config, and web.release.config. I thought VS's web.config transformations was supposed to take care of that. -Matt

• Ant 1.8 include or import with nested resource collection

  I'd like to have Ant automatically include or import resources matching a particular pattern, but I'm really struggling with the syntax. Here's what I've tried: <import> <fileset dir="${basedir}" includes="*-graph.xml" /> </import> However, I just get the error message import requires file attribute or at least one nested resource The documentation for import (and include) both say that you can use a nested resource collection, and the documentation for resource collections says <fileset> is a resource collection. I've Googled and can't find any useful examples at all. I'm using Ant 1.8.1 (verified with ant -version)

  I am writing a big C code... The code includes recursive bactracking function named Branch() that is called so much... My goal is to write the fastest code to get the best running time... I also have another function Redundant() void Redundant() { int* A; A=(int*)malloc(100*sizeof(int)); } I created two versions. Version A: Redundant() is included in Branch(). Version B: Redundant() is not included in Branch() A run 10 times faster than B !!!! Is is Magic or is it kind of process scheduling or what ??

• Vista not supporting trueSpeech!

  My web application has (server side) a wav file saved using truespeech and then a client (ie6, ie7) can ask to plat the file and the web server serves it.. All you need on xp is to have WMP 9 or higher and it all works. but on vista.. suddenly the vista client box can't play the file cause it doesn't support truespeech (some upgrade!) anyone has an idea of what should I do? You can suggest a way to make it work on the client (but in general, I don't like having to say that the solution includes installing anything on the client box) you can suggest I don't save the server side file in truespeech, and instead use something else (what?)

• How to define a multipage environment not interrupted by tables and figures?

  I have defined a new LaTeX environment for excursions in a book chapter I am writing. The environment is multipage and often includes inline images. Moreover, I am using the shaded environment to give the environment a background colour to make it stand out a bit. However, the environment, as shown below, is split up by floating tables and images, which makes the flow of the environment visually more difficult to follow. For example, it is now difficult to see if that floating image or table is part (the missing background colour does not help). • Restoring web session in struts2

  Hi, I have a classical scenario of a website and payment gateway integration, where the request for payment is sent to payment processor, and the payment processor calls back my application once it's done with some parameters I passed to it in the original request. Among parameters, we pass jsessionid and we expect that when the remote server makes request to our server (via customer browser redirect to our server) that the session will be the same as the session used to send the initial payment request. This does not happen, we have two different sessions, although the payment processor includes our original jsessionid in the request to us (https://blabla/?jsessionid=something). How should we go about recreating a session in struts2, in the only thing that connects the 'OLD' and 'NEW' session is the jsessionid in the request URL? Any ideas? Is this possible at all or is the 'OLD' session data deleted when the user moves away from our server onto a completely different domain of a payment processor with their data-entry form? This would explain our innability to recreate the session. Thanks a lot for your replies.

• Unit testing UDP socket handling code

  Are there any 'good' ways to cause a thread waiting on a recvfrom() call to become unblocked and return with an error? The motivation for this is to write unit tests for a system which includes a unit that reads UDP datagrams. One of the branches handles errors on the recvfrom call itself. The code isn't required to distinguish between different types of errors, it just has to set a flag. I've thought of closing the socket from another thread, or do a shutdown on it, to cause recvfrom to return with an error, but this seems a bit heavy handed. I've seen mention elsewhere that sending an over-sized packet would do it, and so set up an experiment where a 16K buffer was sent to a recvfrom waiting for just 4K, but that didn't result in an error. The recvfrom just return 4096, to indicate it had gotten that many bytes.

• Real life usage of the projective plane theory

  I'm learning about the theory of the projective plane. Very generally speaking, it is an extension of the plane, which includes additional points which are defined as the intersection points of two parallel lines. In the projective plane, every two lines have an interesection point. Whether they're parallel or not. Every point in the projective plane can be represented by three numbers (you actually need less than that, but nevemind now). Is there any real life application which uses the projective plane? I can think that, for instance, a software which needs to find the intersections of a line, can benefit from always having an intersection point which might lead to simpler code, but is it really used?

  What does 'salt' refer to in string-to-key (s2k) specifier? It appears to be a random number generator to shake things up, but I would like to know what 'salt' stands for? For example it is written: 3.6.1.2. Salted S2K This includes a "salt" value in the S2K specifier -- some arbitrary data -- that gets hashed along with the passphrase string, to help prevent dictionary attacks. Octet 0: 0x01 Octet 1: hash algorithm Octets 2-9: 8-octet salt value Salted S2K is exactly like Simple S2K, except that the input to the hash function(s) consists of the 8 octets of salt from the S2K specifier, followed by the passphrase. But salt is not defined, although its meaning seems clear.

• The width of a list that contains an embedded matrix grows unexpectedly

  I have a report in reporting services 2005 that includes a list with an embedded matrix and am attempting to put a border on the list, however, when I run the report in visual studio the matrix is growing past the end of the page and therefore the boarder is growing with it causing it to grow into the second page. It appears that there was supposedly a fix for this in reporting services 2000 service pack 1 but I am still experianceing the issue in 2005. The list has a details group that limits the records on a row to 4 using the following expression: =ceiling(rownumber("list1")/4), the matrix has a column group that should recycle those based on the rownumber determined by the list using the following expression: =rowNumber("list1_Details_Group") I have also attempted to put the list in a rectangle in hopes to stop the matrix from growing to no avail. How do I effectivly stop the matrix form growing past the space allowed by the list control?

  I have a Ruby class called LibraryItem. I want to associate with every instance of this class an array of attributes. This array is long and looks something like ['title', 'authors', 'location', ...] Note that these attributes are not really supposed to be methods, just a list of attributes that a LibraryItem has. Next, I want to make a subclass of LibraryItem called LibraryBook that has an array of attributes that includes all the attributes of LibraryItem but will also include many more. Eventually I will want several subclasses of LibraryItem each with their own version of the array @attributes but each adding on to LibraryItem's @attributes (e.g., LibraryBook, LibraryDVD, LibraryMap, etc.). So, here is my attempt: class LibraryItem < Object class << self; attr_accessor :attributes; end @attributes = ['title', 'authors', 'location',] end class LibraryBook < LibraryItem @attributes.push('ISBN', 'pages'] end This does not work. I have a string in my XSLT file that I can display like this: <xsl:value-of select="@Description/> and it shows up, rendered in a browser like: <div>My text has html entities within it</div> <div>This includes quotes, like &quot;Hello World&quot; and sometimes whitespaces.&nbsp;</div> What can I do to get this string rendered as html, so that <div></div> results in newlines, &quot; gives me ", and &nbsp gives me a space? I could elaborate on things I've already tried that haven't worked, but I don't know if that's relevant.

  I have a directory ("files") where sub-directories and files are going to be created and stored over time. The directories also need to deliver a directory listing, using "options indexes", but only if a user is authenticated, and authorized. I have that part built, and working, by doing the following: <Directory /var/www/html/files> Options Indexes IndexOptions FancyIndexing SuppressHTMLPreamble HeaderName /includes/autoindex/auth.php </Directory> Now I need to take care of file delivery. To force authentication for files, I have built the following: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} -f RewriteRule /files/(.*) /auth.php I also tried: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !-d RewriteRule /files/(.*) /auth.php Both directives are redirecting to auth.php when I request: foo.com/files/bar/ foo.com/files/bar/baz I am outputting the SERVER global on auth.php during testing and it is showing the requests as I made them (I thought Apache may have been doing something behind the scenes by adding something like "index.html" to the end with "Options Indexes" being on). Ideas?

  I've got a shared library with some homemade functions, which I compile into my other programs, but I have to link the end program with all the libraries I have used to compile the static library. Here is an example: I have function foo in the library which requires a function from another library libbar.so. In my main program to use function foo I have to compile it with the -lbar flag. Any way using those API methods via iOS and Xcode? about the FQL responses, I'm using both: request:didReceiveResponse: AND request:didLoad: methods. all the FQL queries I send provoke didReceiveResponse but not all of them provoke the second one (didLoad). @"SELECT uid,eid FROM event_member WHERE uid in (select uid2 from friend where uid1=%d limit 100)", userID when the limit is 1-2 it provokes them all, when it grows too 100 (friends to fetch) it provokes only the first.. does anyone know this problem?   I'm using acts_as_taggable_on in a model, and am trying to implement the auto_complete plugin. It seems as though I have everything hooked up correctly, but the search isn't returning any results.   We are trying to write an application that uses the NServiceBus library in a VB.NET environment. We've been stymied by errors similar to the following: Reference required to assembly 'NServiceBus, Version=2.0.0.1071, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=9fc386479f8a226c' containing the implemented interface 'NServiceBus.IMessageHandler`1'. Add one to your project. Our project already includes references to NServiceBus.dll and NServiceBus.Core.dll from the same NServiceBus 2.0 RC2 distribution. Steps to reproduce: Create a new VB Class Library Project (.NET 3.5) Add NServiceBus.dll and NServiceBus.Core.dll as References. Put the following code in Class1.vb: Imports NServiceBus.Sagas.Impl Class Test Public Function Foo() As SagaMessageHandler Return Nothing End Function End Class You should now see the compiler error mentioned above. An identical project written in C# has no compile errors. Any ideas about how to solve this problem? (And, yes, my preferred solution is switching to C#, but no, that's not an acceptable one at the moment.)

  As a concluding assignment for the technologies taught in a data management course, we have to write a web application using the technologies taught throughout the course, this mostly includes xhtml, css, JSP, servelets, JDBC, AJAX, webservices. the project will eventually be deployed using tomcat. we are given the option of choosing the technologies that we see fit. since this is my first time developing a web application I am having some uncertainties about where to start, so for example now I am writing the object classes that will be used in the database and implementing the operations that will be performed on the database, but I am not sure about how to make these operations available to a client through the website, I mean I think I have to write a servlet through which I can extract the request parameters and set the response accordingly, but I would still like a more specific overview of what I am going to do, so if someone can link me to a tutorial with an example that makes use of these technologies while illustrating the stages of the design so that I can see how all these things are linked together in a web project. thanks
