• Setup asp.net mvc application as subdomain website

  I'm trying to setup a local application on a subdomain on our company server. There is already an installation of sharepoint running on http://companyweb/, but I would like my application to run on http://orders.companyweb/. I tried creating a new website, leaving the IP address the same as it is for http://companyweb, and just changing the host header value to orders.companyweb. However, no matter where I try to access the site from (different computers around the network, including the server itself), I keep getting 404 errors. I then tried setting up a simple index.html and serving that up as the highest priority; however, I still got 404 errors. This makes me think that I have actually setup the site itself wrong. What should I change to be able to access this application correctly on all the local computers?

• Linux: multiple network connections - 3G/4G / Wifi / LAN / etc; how can i set a preferred network connection to use?

  I've been looking at how I can setup a laptop that has multiple network interfaces, but a problem exists if all the connections are active, i.e. 3G, WiFi and LAN are all connected, I would like it to default to LAN. I would like to set "weights" or "priority" to each connection, so that if the LAN is unplugged, it'll default to WiFi - if its in range and working, otherwise, it'll switch and use the 3G dongle; I've been looking around and I can see that the "metric" counter for route isn't being used for recent kernels. I thought that would be able to set the preferred gateway / connections - but according to the man page: man route: OUTPUT Metric The 'distance' to the target (usually counted in hops). It is not used by recent kernels, but may be needed by routing daemons. So I'm confused, are there any scripts / apps / anything that can detect active network connections, and by way of configuration, send my default gateway network traffic through that interface if its active / alive?

• Fullscreen Video stutters on second monitor laptop

  Fullscreen video on my new 1080p monitor is choppy when it comes from my laptop. The same video plays when not full screen. This goes for all video(Flash/MKV, etc), regardless of video resolution. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series card in my Thinkpad Edge, Turion X2 2GHz. The computer plays 1080p fine. Things I've tried: Updating Drivers Switching cables Turning Hardware Acceleration Changing video players process priority Rebooting Turning of laptop screen Turning off unused processes Nothing Works. What is the likelyhood that my laptop cannot power a 1920x1280 display?

• Need help setting up mail DNS records

  Hi, We are hosting our web site on host monster, but want our email to continue to be hosted at the old site. Our domain points to the hostmonster DNS servers, but I can't figure out the right configuration for the remote email servers. We have one MX entry, which is priority: 0 domain: ourdomain.com And then we have these DNS entries ... name: mail.ourdomain.com ttl: 14400 class: IN type: A record: old.host.ip.address name: mail1.ourdomain.com ttl: 14400 class: IN type: A record: old.host.secondip.address Can someone tell me what I need to add/edit to get mail to correctly route to our old host? • What are good replacements for Microsoft Visio 2003?

  I have been using Visio 2003 on Windows XP for generation of UML diagrams. I have encountered following problems so far: There is no way to generate/print the documentation written for class attributes/methods. No automatic code generation is supported I have already generated lot of diagrams and i discovered above problems at much later stage. Now i would like to overcome above by choosing another tool which is compatible with Visio file(.vsd) which saves time or redrawing all diagrams and also provides above features. Could you kindly suggest an alternative (visio compatible) tool ? (I have looked at a similar SU-question, but it does not suggest tools which provide solution to above problems. I am open to free as well as licensed tools, with priority to free :) ) Thanks, James

• Install php-fpm + php-mysql + MariaDB on Centos from repos

  I try to take CentOS 6.4 x64 and install nginx w/ php-fpm on it (and that's easy part, no problem at all), then add php-mysql package and MariaDB as a mysql drop-in replacement. And here I face the hang... I've added epel, nginx and remi repos, add priority=10 line to its .repo files, and now as I install MariaDB-server the dependency also brings me MariaDB's "common" package. Then, as I try to install php-mysql, I see file /usr/share/mysql/french/errmsg.sys from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.27-1.x86_64 conflicts with file from package mysql-libs-5.5.28-1.el6.remi.x86_64 warnings. If I deinstall MariaDB server, I'm able to install mysql-libs and php-mysql, but it won't allow me to install MariaDB later. Is there any way to escape that (infinite) loop? I believe the solution is simple but still can't see it. Please help to install php-fpm + php-mysql and MariaDB as DB server!

  Ok, I am trying to tweak my router to give priority to some traffic. My classifications seem to cover just about everything but I still see ~60 to ~80% of the traffic as unclassified: TCP 192.168.1.100 64137 192.168.1.1 80 Unclassified TCP 192.168.1.100 64175 192.168.1.1 80 Unclassified TCP 192.168.1.100 64144 192.168.1.1 443 Unclassified I assume that the 64### ports are just what my WAP uses to send packets inside my home network. But my classifications seems to cover any traffic for destination ports 80 and 443: (partial list) TCP Dst Port: 80,443 High WWW TCP/UDP Dst Port: 1024-65535 Lowest Bulk Traffic Why do I have so much unclassified traffic if I have a classification that should cover it?

• Performance Tuning a High-Load Apache Server

  I am looking to understand some server performance problems I am seeing with a (for us) heavily loaded web server. The environment is as follows: Debian Lenny (all stable packages + patched to security updates) Apache 2.2.9 PHP 5.2.6 Amazon EC2 large instance The behavior we're seeing is that the web typically feels responsive, but with a slight delay to begin handling a request -- sometimes a fraction of a second, sometimes 2-3 seconds in our peak usage times. The actual load on the server is being reported as very high -- often 10.xx or 20.xx as reported by top. Further, running other things on the server during these times (even vi) is very slow, so the load is definitely up there. Oddly enough Apache remains very responsive, other than that initial delay. We have Apache configured as follows, using prefork: StartServers 5 MinSpareServers 5 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 150 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 And KeepAlive as: KeepAlive On MaxKeepAliveRequests 100 KeepAliveTimeout 5 Looking at the server-status page, even at these times of heavy load we are rarely hitting the client cap, usually serving between 80-100 requests and many of those in the keepalive state. That tells me to rule out the initial request slowness as "waiting for a handler" but I may be wrong. Amazon's CloudWatch monitoring tells me that even when our OS is reporting a load of 15, our instance CPU utilization is between 75-80%. From my limited experience I draw the following conclusions/questions: We may be allowing far too many KeepAlive requests I do see some time spent waiting for IO in the vmstat although not consistently and not a lot (I think?) so I am not sure this is a big concern or not, I am less experienced with vmstat Also in vmstat, I see in some iterations a number of processes waiting to be served, which is what I am attributing the initial page load delay on our web server to, possibly erroneously We serve a mixture of static content (75% or higher) and script content, and the script content is often fairly processor intensive, so finding the right balance between the two is important; long term we want to move statics elsewhere to optimize both servers but our software is not ready for that today I am happy to provide additional information if anybody has any ideas, the other note is that this is a high-availability production installation so I am wary of making tweak after tweak, and is why I haven't played with things like the KeepAlive value myself yet.

• Multiple External IP Ranges on a Juniper SSG5

  I have a Juniper SSG 5 firewall in a datacenter. The first interface (eth0/0) has been assigned a static IP address and has three other addresses configured for VIP Nat. I have a static route configured at the lowest priority for 0.0.0.0/0 to my hosting company's gateway. Now I need to configure a second IP block. I have the IPs assigned to the second interface (eth0/1) which is in the same security zone and virtual router as the first. However, with this interface enabled I (a) can't initiate outbound sessions (browse the internet, ping, DNS lookup, etc) even though I can access servers behind the firewall just fine from the outside and (b) can't ping the management IP of the firewall/gateway. I've tried anything I can think of but I guess this is a little above my head. Could anyone point me in the right direction? • How to set expiration date for external files? [closed]

  I have a site included lots of external files, most of them are gif format. I have no control on the external files, but have to use them(with permission). When I check the site using Google Pagespeed, I got very low score(31) even though the page load is fast. One of the high priority suggestion is to leverage browser caching by setting an expiration date. However, all the files are on external links. I have already set the expiration date for local files.

  We are considering a change of email servers and Kerio Connect is attractive. However, I am concerned about calendaring functionality. I found an old forum post that states the question well: "We want to create a single public calendar that everyone can see - using Windows XP/Outlook 2003/KOC 6.4.1. We want a way for people to put an entry in their own personal calendar and some how mark it so the entry auto add's or syncs with the public one. If an entry is private it wouldn't sync to the shared public calendar... Has anyone ever heard of a way to do this - in any way with any software?" This is a high priority feature, so if Kerio cannot do this, we may consider Exchange. Does Exchange provide functionality like that described?

• IIS 7.5 Manager crashes when adding a custom error page

  I'm running a local IIS 7.5 server in Win 7 Pro, and I'm trying to add a custom error page for 403 responses. When I click OK to add a custom error page for my site, IIS Manager just vanishes. The server is still running, and I can re-start IIS Manager, but the new page has not been saved. I've also tried adding it directly to web.config, but that just gives me The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Edit: The event log implies that an invalid character in the path caused the crash, but It occured even when I copied & pasted a path from a valid entry.   After a network failure,both servers running keepalived become master. When the network is reestablished, both keep the MASTER state. What could be causing it? • Printer monitor software across multiple workstations (AD integrated)

  I was asked to see if there is any kind of (free) software that allows multiple people in an office that use the same printer to see what jobs have finished recently, which are queued and which is printing. Main reason is that sometimes multiple people have the same task where they need to print some kind of form, and they are unsure whether or not their colleague has already printed the file. Because the printer is AD integrated, they only see a short message when printing, but they do not see a proper printer queue. A simple tray icon/tool would be perfect, no real graphical user interface is required. If this turns out to be too hard to find, I will attempt to write a simple application or script for the job, but since this is a low priority job I decided to ask here first before I start messing around with scripting which isn't my forte.   I have a Mac, which runs Mac OSX 10.6 or Ubuntu 9.10 or Windows XP (Multiboot). Solution can be for any of the systems, whatever works better. I have two ISPs, one can be accessed via Wifi, one can be accessed via LAN. In OSX i can define the priority, which network to choose first. But what i wish to do is to load-balance with both networks. I don't want to buy extra hardware. I have some unused wifi routers if this would help. Compiling and configuring programms in linux is no problem for me. Thanks for any help.

• Delivering from Postfix to Exchange

  I have someone with two domains, a.com and b.com. a.com is running a postfix server on the mx host for the domain and I have total control of the server. b.com is running an exchange server on the mx host for the domain and I do not have any control of this server. They have been using b.com as their primary mail address and use the exchange calender with outlook. They want all the same functionality but want to start using a.com as primary mail address. I opened up postfix to allow relay from the ip address of the exchange server and hopefully that's enough from the outgoing side. For delivery though what can I do to forward all incoming emails to the exchange server? I have some aliases defined in /etc/aliases that should take higher priority.

IN A 111.222.333.2 EDIT: actually, come to think of it, it could be said the same for MX records. Any breaking differences? EDIT 2: then again, MX allow use of priority values so its a different case, in that one-ip-per-domain is more useful sometimes.

• Why does my computer slow down so much when attaching Bluetooth dongle?

  I have a Bluetooth dongle and I plugged it into my work laptop (a Dell Latitude D830). Windows detects the Generic Bluetooth USB or similar and then proceeds to go incredibly slow with a process, avp.exe¹, taking 50% CPU. The System Idle process is getting most of the other 50% CPU and the avp.exe process is only at Normal priority. The machine doesn't seem to recover, so I had to turn the power off and reboot. Now, I haven't installed the drivers yet for the device, which I am doing now and I expect it to resolve the problem, so I am not asking how to fix this. I would rather know why Windows goes so slow in the first place. What is it trying to do and failing at so badly that it barely crawls? ¹ Part of Kaspersky Internet Security suite

  Has anyone had experience using VMs as remote desktops for public access terminals (e.g. an internet cafe) In our case we don't want to charge money for access but I figure this solution has a few advantages, such as: can easily re-build VMs daily, erasing private data and clutter can use rickety old PCs for the 'dumb' terminals less IT support needed on site Can you suggest tools to help do this? Keeping the terminals up and running as much of the time as possible is the main priority, so they need to boot straight into full screen remote desktop and stay there.
