• How to proxy with apache site from same domain but another port as a subfolder?

  So I have a problem - I have my main site on apache web server on debian on port 80; I develop a web server (in some C++ or C#) and it currently runs on port 6666. But some people are living under firewalls and can access only port 80. I wonder if it is possible via apache map all requests to say mysite.com:80/6666/url as if they were to mysite.com:6666/url, not map via redirection, but really make apache stream content from my site to user as if it were in some folder?

• On-line Based Conferencing For Admin Panel

  Working on my admin panels work station section which will allow the admin to use simple office tools such as word editors, calculators and whatnot. Under this section of the admin panel, I would like to add a conferencing feature which will allow any administrator to connect with another administrator 1-2-1 under the 1-2-1 Conferencing section, or to join a meeting under 'live meeting' section. Upon my search for on-line based, I found there are all these, what seem to be great applications out there, however not all of them are on-line based, and come with a price! I would like to a purely on-line based conferencing/meeting/1-2-1 feature which will allow administrators to communicate via text or sound, stream their video, share their screen and sending of files. I know this sounds like a big feature, and I am not asking for someone to answer by programming one for my website! Does anyone know my best solution to progress to having this feature on my website, any tutorials or free to use, free to modify web plugins? Thank you for your help, Best Regards, Tim

• Is deserializing complex objects instead of creating them a good idea, in test setup?

  I'm writing tests for a component that takes very complex objects as input. These tests are mixes of tests against already existing components, and test-first tests for new features. Instead of re-creating my input objects (this would be a large chunk of code) or reading one from our data store, I had the thought to serialize a live instance of one of these objects, and just deserialize it into test setup. I can't decide if this is a reasonable idea that will save effort in long run, or whether it's the worst idea that I've ever had, causing those that will maintain this code will hunt me down as soon as they read it. Is deserialization of inputs a valid means of test setup in some cases? To give a sense of scale of what I'm dealing with, the size of serialization output for one of these input objects is 93KB. • HTML5 Audio: Which formats? Ditch Ogg Vorbis in favor of Ogg Opus? Is MP3 still needed?

  I'm currently working on a website which has to stream audio files. Since bandwidth is always an issue, the file size should be as small as possible. I wonder what audio formats I should provide. MP3 - Most common format but low quality, I don't know if it's even required, since AAC is well supported by the browsers incapable of playing free codecs MP4 AAC - Nice quality / small filesize, supported by Safari / Mobile Devices / IE9 / Flash / Chrome A free codec - well, until recently, there only was Ogg Vorbis, but Ogg Opus is standardized now and it's really good! Questions: Is it time yet to use Opus instead if Vorbis? Firefox supports Opus since version 15, and Opera has support on its roadmap - I guess Chrome will follow in the future too. Do I still have to provide an MP3 file?

  I need to simulate the behavior of the keyboard shortcut (ALT+F4) using Terminal for a given application. If I open for example gedit and click ALT + F4 , then GEDIT will be xkilled. If I want to achieve same thing using Terminal, how should I proceed?   Possible Duplicate: Cross-Platform Audio API Suggestions What options are out there these days for audio playback/mixing in C++? Primarily for Windows, but portability (particularly to Mac and iOS) would be desirable. For a small indie game, potentially commercial, though - so I'm looking for something free/low-cost. My requirements are fairly basic - I don't need 3D sound, or many-channels - simple stereo is fine. Just need to be able to mix sound effects and a music stream, maybe decoding one or more compressed audio formats (.ogg/.mp3 etc), with all the basic controls over looping, pitch, volume, etc. Is OpenAL more-or-less the standard choice, or are there other good options out there?

• Flowmotion Running on Ubuntu Server [migrated]

  I am trying to configure Flowmotion to work on my Ubuntu Server. At present I use LAMP to serve pages from a Virtualbox installation. I will be moving this to a dedicated server but would like to enable true streaming of videos using this installation. I am only interested in open source streaming for a research project and although I have installed Flowmotion via apt-get I don't know how to start the service so that embedded videos located on the server will stream. Can anybody provide any information regarding this or online resources I may have missed? I have checked the documentation however if appears far too complex. Just clarify I'm running VirtualBox 4.2.1 on Mac OSX 10.6.8 and Ubuntu Server 12.06 64-bit

• Legality of using/embedding MP3s?

  I am working on a language learning startup. I think that one of the best ways to study is through music. For that purpose I would like to include MP3s on the website, together with related study tools such as appropriate lyrics. Because I want to avoid dead links I would like to host the MP3s directly on my server and stream them to the users. Doing this isn't exactly legal since everyone could download the MP3s. But what if, before accessing a specific song, I displayed a message asking "Do you legally own this song in CD/MP3/... format?" and only if the user clicks "yes" he is allowed to continue and listen. Isn't this how, for example, YouTube gets around legal problems? Does anybody have insight on this? Thank you!

• Is there a way to play music from a server through the network and have two computers as speakers?

• Adding a short delay between bullets

  I'm having some trouble simulating bullets in my 2D shooter. I want similar mechanics to Megaman, where the user can hold down the shoot button and a continues stream of bullets are fired but with a slight delay. Currently, when the user fires a bullet in my game a get an almost laser like effect. Below is a screen shot of some bullets being fired while running and jumping. In my update method I have the following: if(gc.getInput().isKeyDown(Input.KEY_SPACE) ){ bullets.add(new Bullet(player.getPos().getX() + 30,player.getPos().getY() + 17)); } Then I simply iterate through the array list increasing its x value on each update. Moreover, pressing the shoot button (Space bar) creates multiple bullets instead of just creating one even though I am adding only one new bullet to my array list. What would be the best way to solve this problem?

• Sharing between new install and Windows 7 boxes not working, either direction. Printers & folders

  I don't seem to be able to share between my Ubuntu (fresh install) and any of my Windows machines. I tried using this guide: How to Share Folders in Ubuntu & Access them from Windows 7. The problems is that I cannot see the Ubuntu machine in my network pane on the Windows machine. Any Ideas of what I should check? Ultimately what I am looking to do is make mobile media server that I can put in the Van, attach a WiFi router, and stream to an iPad, tablet, laptop, etc. Any advice on setting this up would be appreciated.

• HTTP resource bundling/streaming practice

  Our SPA (plain HTML and Javascript) makes use of huge volume of javascript and other resources that are downloaded via XHR. Given the sheer number of components and browser simultaneous request limits, we're thinking for ways to deliver our resources in a more efficient manner. A method we're considering is bundling several resources that logically form a coherent group into a single file; thus reducing down to only one XHR (per group). Furthermore to make it more responsive, we'd like to constantly inspect the partial responseText during the LOADING state, determining if a usable chunk (atomic resource) has already been downloaded, and make it available for deserialization/processing even before the XHR is DONE. (a stream-like experience) We're thinking surely somebody else would've considered roughly the same approach before, but haven't really come across any library/framework or container file format that is suitable for our scenario. Anybody else know of something similar?

  Hi I updated a friends computer from 11.10 to 12.04 and the sound stopped working in the built-in speakers. The computer is a Sony Vaio PCG-2J1L. • Compiling old versions of R (2.11 or older) on Ubuntu 13.10 (or newer)?

  I am trying to compile an old version of R (2.11.1, specifically). "Why?", you might ask. Well, I have a program I am trying to run (that was not written by me, but I am hoping to use in my research) that was written in "old" R, and the program writer has specifically mentioned that R-2.11.1 or older must be used. I have run ./configure with no obvious errors (the entire output being far too long to post here, but I have been warned that I cannot make PDF, DVI, or HTML versions of the help pages, which I'm not too concerned about). Next, when I pass the make command, I am met with the following error (after a long stream of successful commands): Warning in solve.default(rgb): unable to load shared library '/home/sbowerma/Programs/R-2.11.1/modules//lapack.so': /home/sbowerma/Programs/R-2.11.1/lib/libRlapack.so: undefined symbol: _gfortran_compare_string Error in solve.default(rgb) : lapack routines cannot be loaded Error: unable to load R code in package 'grDevices' Execution halted However, I have confirmed that the library lapack.so is, in fact, in the exact position it is supposed to be.

  I have been searching EVERYWHERE!!!!! And I cannot seem to find a driver for my GeForce 7300 GS video card. If I don't get it, the Android SDK emulator won't work. • Music Players in Ubuntu/Linux [closed]

  Music Player, just like Web Browsers are an important part of today's application repertoire, and not only for entertainment reason. Having tried a few Linux Player over the past years i come to wonder, which Players you prefer and what kind of Players are out there, that you suggest are worth looking into and why!! I used Rhythmbox for a long time, but "Jamendo and Magnatune" plugin are both no longer available in 11.10 and also my covers are not shown, since i stream my music folder from a second partition. aTunes is another great Player, but there are also some flaws which i contacted the developers about. • Access to my files on Android

  I am thinking of subscribing to Dropbox which is slightly more costly than Ubuntu one but I need access to my files on the go, and I prefer to use my smartphone to my netbook most of the time as I like to travel light. I do not want to stream music, I want access to my files only. Whereas there is a free app for Dropbox to access said files, there isn't one for Ubuntu. I would be prepared to wait a while if you have got this in hand, have you actually given this any thought? Please tell me whether I should ignore Ubuntu One and link up with Dropbox?

• Successful business proposal; How to negotiate with employer for bonuses on the project [on hold]

  I'm the lone programmer at a small business which is falling head-over-heels for a website proposal I wrote on a project they were considering. Next week is the company meeting where it will be formally presented to the owners, and if the project is accepted it could become a (relatively) huge revenue stream when finished. Despite all the buzz I have no financial stake in the success or failure of the project. I know I haven't been profitable and they can't pay me what I should be making. I'm also the only non-management employee with no way to earn a bonus, despite having one of the most demanding jobs in the office. I'd like to know if there's any resources or advice for programmers or employees to negotiate and get invested in a projects success. Just a way to guarantee if I prove my worth I can move up a rung or two.
