  I have a table that looks like this for about ~30 students: StudentID Course* CourseStatus 1 Math Pass 1 English Fail 1 Science Pass 2 Math Fail 2 English Pass 2 Science Fail etc. *In my actual database the 'Course' column is a CourseID e.g. (1 = Math; 2 = English etc.) which references a 'CourseName' table. I amended the table above just to make it clear the nature of the problem. I want to write a query (stored procedure) in SQL that summarises performance for a given course and returns the following: EXEC usp_GetCourseSummary 'Math' Total Students Total Pass % Pass Total Fail % Fail 25 15 60 10 40 Have been scratching my head on this one for some time. Any ideas?

  I am using autobench for benchmarking in ubuntu 8.10 autobench --single_host --host1 localhost --uri1 /solr/admin --low_rate 20 --high_rate 200 --rate_step 20 --num_call 10 --num_conn 5000 --timeout 5 --file bench1.tsv This is the command which I gave. It is taking the default port as 80 and the number of replies and requests are as shown below **Errors: total 5000 client-timo 0 socket-timo 0 connrefused 5000 connreset 0 Errors: fd-unavail 0 addrunavail 0 ftab-full 0 other 0 Zero replies received, test invalid: rate 20 httperf --timeout=5 --client=0/1 --server=localhost --port=80 --uri=/solr/admin --rate=40 --send-buffer=4096 --recv-buffer=16384 --num-conns=5000 --num-calls=10 Maximum connect burst length: 4 Total: connections 5000 requests 0 replies 0 test-duration 124.976 s** But, I want the port to be 8983. • After using modern languages, can C NOT be painful?

  I started my computer engineering course recently and we've been using C for a couple of things. Before starting university, I was doing a lot of web development. I've written a lot of PHP code (yuck!) and for the last year or so Ruby exclusively. aside: I love Ruby, love it! So after a year of heavy Ruby development, is it wrong to think that C should be avoided at all costs unless absolutely necessary? Right now it seems to me I should try to a) get it to run in Ruby b) if it's too slow, try Java c) if it's too slow, use C Is there anyone who jumps straight to C if a VM (Ruby, Java, Python, etc) can be used on the machine and speed is not an issue? In other words, can C NOT be painful?

  I have a JTextField, where I've set some custom properties: nameField.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(275,40)); nameField.setBackground(bgColor); nameField.setForeground(txtColor); nameField.setFont(new Font("HelveticaNeue",Font.PLAIN,22)); nameField.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.WHITE, 2)); When the component has focus, there is no highlight shown around the field. On a Mac, it is usually a blue glowing rectangle, indicating that this component has focus. If I comment out the nameField.setBorder(...), the highlight reappears. How do I keep the highlight, but also my custom border!? Basically, I just want the highlight-border to show when the component has focus, and no border when the component is unfocused.

• Code Formatter: cleaning up horribly formatted jsp code

  So I am working on a jsp/servlet that came to me and I'm looking at the jsp file and it is just a jungle of jstl tags, java code and html thrown together. At first it looked like someone ran the standard eclipse formatter on it and had the page width set to 40 so alot of stuff is broken up, I tried to format it with a larger page width but that seemed to make it worse to the point of not being able to tell what is going on without formatting parts of it first. Anyone have any luck with any jsp/code formatter?

  It seems that all of the initial Google results for "using subversion with xcode" are actually just tutorials for installing and configuring svn and Xcode, as opposed to actually using the two (i.e. interacting with svn via Xcode's GUI). Is anyone aware of a good guide that teaches the tricks and pitfalls of working with svn via Xcode's GUI? Something that bridges the gap between the most excellent Version Control with Subversion book and the Xcode IDE (as in pure Xcode GUI without any terminal command use)? Edit: We all love our terminal commands, and we all love Eclipse but (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) neither is really the point of the question. I’d prefer to use svn via Xcode’s IDE instead of via terminal just as I prefer (well, for this case) to code in Xcode’s IDE instead of using vim and gcc. Apple engineers spent a good bit of time implementing that SCM menu in Xcode; someone has to have seen a usage guide somewhere.

During that time, I worked 40 hours per week during the summer and averaged 20 hours per week during the school year. I have since been hired full-time and I have been with the company a little over 3 years now. How many years of work experience do I have? Background info: There is a significant income disparity between someone with 1 year of experience vs 3 years (as per salary.com). I have job responsibilities equivalent to that of someone who has been at my company for about 5 years. I am trying to determine what I should expect in terms of income, raises, etc.

• IE7 is not positioning dialog properly on window resize

  Like I said, IE7 (and IE6 but I don't really care IE6 that much) doesn't position dialog properly on window resize. When window is re sized, dialog goes down and down. IE8 FF Chrome Safari all work properly and position and re size dialog just fine but IE7 it re sizes the dialog but positions incorrectly. • Apple has bigger market capitalization than Microsoft

  Should I worry that my Microsoft programming skills (C#, .NET, WinAPI) will be obsolete in a few years, because everybody will be using Mac OS X, iPhone OS or some other Apple-originated OS? According to reuters, Apple has now bigger market capitalization than Microsoft. I know there is probably huge speculative bubble around Apple's shares, but just look at this graph (taken from business insider): I also know Windows have currently 90% of the OS market share, so we (Win devs) should be OK for a few years, but who knows, maybe in 10 years, it will be just 40%, and 0% on mobile phone OS market. Personally, I'm not much worried, because I think Microsoft will fight hard for their desktop OS market share, but I'm interested in your opinions.

This xml file can be around 2.5MB. In my source code I will have a loop to get nicknames In each loop, I have something like this: nickNameLoopNum = MyXmlDoc.SelectSingleNode("//ttest[@ID=' + testloopNum + "']").Attributes["NickName"].Value This single line will cost me 30 to 40 millisecond. I searched some old articles (dated back to 2002) saying, use some sort of compiled "xpath" can help the situation, but that was 5 years ago. I wonder is there a mordern practice to make it faster? (I'm using .NET 3.5)

  I tried to translate some new part of winuser.h header to Delphi. Why this structure is expected to be 48 bytes (only this size was accepted by the corresponding function).   When my application is closed, the main controller class removes itself as Observer from the model and then releases the model. Observation info was leaked, and may even become mistakenly attached to some other object. Set a breakpoint on NSKVODeallocateBreak to stop here in the debugger. • Looking for Eclipse plugin: Lock source tabs in place

  When working with java code in Eclipse I can typically juggle between 20-40 different files, but there usually are just two that I actively work with at the time (test and code). Going back to the code where I want to work after having debugged through 5-10 classes can be a pain. So what I would like to do is to be able to right click on the tab of a class and choose to lock them in place. The classes would then always be available as the first and second tabs furthest to the left in the editor. All other classes (and other files opened in the editor) would then fight over the remaining space in the editor like today. Is there a plugin like this? My google-fu might not be strong enough, cause I find nothing.

• Understanding memory and cpu speed

  Firstly, I am working on a windows xp 64 machine with 4gb ram and 2.29 ghz x4 I am indexing 220,000 lines of text that are more or less the same length. These are divided into 15 equally sized files. File 1/15 takes 1 minute to index. As the script indexes more files, it seems to take much longer with file 15/15 taking 40 minutes. My understanding is that the more I put in memory, the faster the script is. The dictionary is indexed in a hash, so fetch operations should be O(1). I am not sure where the script would be hanging the CPU. I have the script here.
