• ASP.NET with VS 2008 How to Run Root "/" with Local Web Server

  I want to use the built-in web server for VS 2008 and have it run my web-site project as the top level root "/". Instructions for VS 2005 can be found at: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2006/12/19/tip-trick-how-to-run-a-root-site-with-the-local-web-server-using-vs-2005-sp1.aspx My problem is with step 3 of the instructions. When the the web-site project node is selected, right click never gives me an option to select a property-grid like that shown under step 3. Nor could I find another way in the menu or tool bar to get the property-grid. I don't know if the UI difference I'm seeing has to do with me using VS 2008 and the instructions are for VS 2005 or what? How do I get the web-site property-grid for VS 2008, or is there an alternative way to get the root setup I want?

• How do I set default values on new properties for existing entities after light weight core data migration?

  I've successfully completed light weight migration on my core data model. My custom entity Vehicle received a new property 'tirePressure' which is an optional property of type double with the default value 0.00. When 'old' Vehicles are fetched from the store (Vehicles that were created before the migration took place) the value for their 'tirePressure' property is nil. (Is that expected behavior?) So I thought: "No problem, I'll just do this in the Vehicle class:" - (void)awakeFromFetch { [super awakeFromFetch]; if (nil == self.tirePressure) { [self willChangeValueForKey:@"tirePressure"]; self.tirePressure = [NSNumber numberWithDouble:0.0]; [self didChangeValueForKey:@"tirePressure"]; } } Since "change processing is explicitly disabled around" awakeFromFetch I thought the calls to willChangeValueForKey and didChangeValueForKey would mark 'tirePresure' as dirty. But they don't. Every time these Vehicles are fetched from the store 'tirePressure' continues to be nil despite having saved the context.

Now this property is inherited by JobView and ActivityView but if I need reference to IJobViewPresenter object in these derived classes then I need to type cast IBasePresenter property to IJobViewPresenter or IActivityPresenter (which I want to avoid) or create JobViewPresenter and ActivityViewPresenter on derived classes (as shown above). I want to avoid type casting in derived classes and still have reference to IJobViewPresenter or IActivityViewPresenter and still have IBasePresenter in BaseView. Is there a way I can achieve it ?

• Converting LDAP from Tomcat to GlassFish

  Hi, I have a simple web-app that is developed in Netbeans(6.8) and works fine in Tomcat(6) using LDAP(Active Directory). I need to convert this to an EE (JSF2), so I am moving from Tomcat to GlassFish(v3). I have changed the web files to xhtml and configured the xml files. However, I cannot get the GlassFish LDAP configuration to authenticate. I am attaching my old web.xml and server.xml (from Tomcat) snippets and the portions of the new web.xml, sun-web.xml, and the GlassFish configuration. If anyone can help me figure out where I am missing the piece that will allow a user to be authenticated, I would appreciate it. (btw, I am not using roles, just authenticating against the LDAP db is good enought.) As it is right now, my app will prompt me to enter a user when I try to access a file in the 'protected' area and the GlassFish server throws an exception when it fails to authenticate. Because it works under Tomcat, I know I have the right information, I just don't know how to format it to get GlassFish to pass it along. Thanks. • Retain Count Question: Some Guidance, Please

  [I'm sure this is not odd at all, but I need just a bit of help] I have two retain properties @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *listContent; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *filteredListContent; and in the viewDidLoad method I set the second equal to the first (so now the retainCount is two, I think): self.filteredListContent = self.listContent; and then on every search I do this self.filteredListContent = [listContent filteredArrayUsingPredicate:predicate]; I thought I should do a release right above this assignment -- since the property should cause an extra retain, right? -- but that causes the program to explode the second time I run the search method. The retain counts (without the extra release) are 2 the first time I come into the search method, and 1 each subsequent time (which is what I expected, unfortunately). Some guidance would help, thanks! Is it correct to not release?

• Obtaining reference to Class instance by string name - VB.NET

  Is it possible using Reflection or some other method to obtain a reference to a specific class instance from the name of that class instance? For example the framework for the applications i develop heavily uses public class instances such as: Public bMyreference as MyReference = new MyReference Then throughout the application bMyReference is used by custom controls and code. One of the properties of the custom controls is the "FieldName" which references a Property in these class instances (bMyReference.MyField) as a string. What i would like to be able to do is analyze this string "bMyReference.MyField" and then refer back to the actual Instance/Property. In VB6 I would use an EVAL or something simular to convert the string to an actual object but this obviously doesn't work in VB.net What I'm picturing is something like this Dim FieldName as String = MyControl.FieldName ' sets FielName to bMyReference.MyField Dim FieldObject() as String = FieldName.Split(".") ' Split into the Object / Property Dim myInstance as Object = ......... ' Obtain a reference to the Instance and set as myInstance Dim myProperty = myInstance.GetType().GetProperty(FieldObject(1))

• Adding business logic to a domain class using a getter style method name

  I'm attempting to add a method to a grails domain class, e.g. class Item { String name String getReversedName() { name.reverse() } } When I attempt to load the application using grails console I get the following error: Caused by: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'sessionFactory':Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is org.hibernate.PropertyNotFoundException: Could not find a setter for property reversedName in class Item ... 18 more It looks like Hibernate is interpreting getReversedName() as a getter for a property, however in this case it is a derived field and hence should not be persisted. Obviously in my actual code the business logic I'm exposing is more complex but it isn't relevant to this question. I want to be able to call item.reversedName in my code/gsps. How can I provide property (getter) access to a method in a Grails domain class without Grails attempting to map it with Hibernate?

  Here is my problem. I want the following class to have a bunch of property attributes. I could either write them all out like foo and bar, or based on some other examples I've seen, it looks like I could use a class decorator, a metaclass, or override the __new__ method to set the properties automagically.   hi, i am building a real estate application where in it will store the properties and search it. the property will have different categories like (residential, commercial, industrial or agricultural). based upon the category i want to serailize each and every property listing . for example the property with id 1 belongs to resedential will have the serial code rs_SOMERANDOMUNIQUENUMBER. and for commercial it can be cm_SOMERANDOMUNIQUENUMBER and so on. for this my database table looks like this. What I need to do is to somehow set the Tenant property, but I can't because: It's a protected property, and It has a private setter Changing the visibility of Tenant doesn't "feel" right. What are my alternatives to unit test my derived controllers?

• CheckedState inconsisten in Treeview using Find Method

  Hello, I'm using a Treeview control in a .NET 3.5 c# project and I'm noticing inconsistencies in the checked property when I use the find method of the Treeview control. I'll check some leaves (nodes with no children) and then click a button. Inside the button click I'm using the find method of the treeview control to locate the node and interrogate the value of the checked property. On screen the leaf will be checked but according to the checked property of the node returned from the Find method its not checked. Has anyone else run into this? Thanks

How should the expression look like if I want to localise it? I can make the property accessible as an attribute of the control's tag, but I prefer the mark-up above, it looks more elegant and clean.   Hi, I need ideas for structuring and processing data with revisions. For example, I have a database of objects (e.g. cars). Each object has a number of properties, which can be arbitrary, so there's no a set schema to describe these objects. These objects are probably saved as key-value pairs. Now I need to change property of an object. I don't want to completely rewrite it - I want to be able to go back and see history of changes to these properties, that's why I want to add new property and keep the old one (so I guess a timestamp would do the job of telling which property is the latest). At the same time I want to be able to get info about any object in a snap, with only latest versions of each of the properties. Any ideas what would be the best approach? At least please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

• Core Data and BOOL setup

  I am working on an app that uses Core Data as its backend for managing SQLite records. I have everything working with strings and numbers, but have just tried adding BOOL fields and can't seem to get things to work. In the .xcdatamodel, I have added a field to my object called isCurrentlyForSale which is not Optional, not Transient, and not Indexed. The attribute's type is set to Boolean with default value NO. When I created the class files from the data model, the boilerplate code added for this property in the .h header was: @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * isCurrentlyForSale; along with the @dynamic isCurrentlyForSale; in the .m implementation file. I've always worked with booleans as simple BOOLs. I've read that I could use NSNumber's numberWithBool and boolValue methods, but this seems like an aweful lot of extra code for something so simple. Can the @property in the header be changed to a simple BOOL? If so is there anything to watch out for? Thanks -John

  In a class which has a lazy loaded property, such as: private Collection<int> someInts; public Collection<int> SomeInts { get { if (this.someInts == null) this.someInts = new Collection<int>(); return this.someInts; } } Is it worth also having a property such as: public bool SomeIntsExist { get { return (this.someInts != null && this.someInts.Count > 0); } } And then using that property.. eg: if (thatClass.SomeIntsExist) { // do something with thatClass.SomeInts collection } or is this premature optimisation. Its certainly easier to roll with something like below, but it will instantiate the collection needlessly: if (thatClass.SomeInts.Count > 0) { // do something with thatClass.SomeInts collection } Is the compiler smart enough to figure things like this out? Is there a better way?

• PropertyGrid - is it customizable?

  I have a project in that we have to represent some graphic objects on a usercontrol in WYSIWYG. Also is required to edit each objects properties(Color, Location, etc). I hesitate between using PropertyGrid ('direct' properties edit) and custom forms on DoubleClick ('indirect' edit). The PropertyGrid is very well but should correspond a some criteria: Only selected properties are Displayed (by e.g. if I have TextRectangle want display only Text and Location); Property names should be customizable and internationalizable (by e.g. TextRectangle Text property should be named "Company Name" or "???????? ???????????"). Now about is it possible I think the answer could be Yes, but is it reasonable to use it if we have not a lot of time. What could be quicker implemented, custom forms or Property panel?

• Hibernate bug using Oracle?

  Hello, I've got the problem, that I use a property in the persistence.xml which forces Hibernate to look only for tables in the given schema. <property name="hibernate.default_schema" value="FOO"/> Because we are using now 4 different schemas the actual solution is to generate 4 war files with a modified persistence.xml. That not very elegant. Does anybody know, how I can configure the schema with a property or by manipulation the JDBC connection string? I'm using Oracle 10g, 10_2_3 Patch. Thanks a lot.

  In order to prevent command windows from popping up during installation I am using the WIX built-in custom action CAQuietExec. First I define the command line: <CustomAction Id="A01" Property="QtExecCmdLine" Value="&quot;MyExe.exe&quot; /password [PASSWORD]" /> NB: The PASSWORD property is defined as Hidden. This prevents the Windows installer from writing the property value to the log. Then I call into the embedded WIX extension: <CustomAction Id="A02" BinaryKey="WixCA" DllEntry="CAQuietExec" Execute="immediate" Return="ignore" /> This works fine. However, when I go to the temp folder and open up the MSI log I see the following entry: CAQuietExec: "C:\Program Files\MyExe.exe" /password INCLEARTEXT I.e. the password is displayed in clear text and not hidden. How do I prevent the CAQuietExec from logging the password in clear text?

  In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one. • .Net Designer assemblies, C++\C# error

  I'm working on an designer-heavy application (using Visual C++ 2.0, but a C# solution should still be relevant). My setup is this: I have a UserControl named "Host" I'm attempting a UserControl named "Child" Child contains a property to a class whose type is defined in a different dll entirely, named "mytools.dll" Child works just fine in the designer. However, when I go to drag "child" onto "host" from the designer, I get the following error: Failed to create component 'Child'. The error message follows: 'System.io.filenotfoundexception: could not load file or assembly MyTools, Version XXXXXX, Culture=neutral ..... {unhelpful callstack} If I comment out the property in "child" that points to the class in mytools.dll, everything designs just peachy. I have the property marked with "Browsable(false), and DesignerSerializable(hidden), and it does not help. Is there a way for me to explicitly say "Don't load this dll, you won't need it in design time", or some way for me to force a dll to load from the designer programmatically? Thanks!

• Displaying Fields (and/instead of Properties) in a PropertyGrid

  I'd like to use a PropertyGrid to manipulate the data on some objects, however these objects don't have properties, they have fields. Thus a property grid doesn't display them (high five MS!) Before anyone posts "just use properties": I can't at the moment.. these objects are DTOs and are used to send data to a VB6 Interop dll, thus all the parameters for the method calls are "ref" parameters (high five MS!), and C# won't compile if you use a property instead of a field or variable (high five MS!). No, I am not going to create local variables for every property on any given object. There many, many fields, and many, many test cases that would need updating, as well as the production code it self, and this post/question may be the path of least resistance. :)

I can do it in C# by looping around the returned datatable and specifically position columns using datatable.columns.setordinal() method. Is there any better way in SQL or C# to accomplish this.
