  • PNG Transparency Problems in IE8

    I'm having problems with a transparent PNG image showing black dithered pixel artifacts around the edge of the non transparent part of the image. It only does this in Internet Explorer and it only does it from a Javascript file it is used in. Here's what I'm talking about... http://70.86.157.71/test/test3.htm (link now dead) ...notice the girl in the bottom right corner. She has artifacts around her in IE8 (I haven't tested it in previous versions of IE, but I'm assuming it probably does the same). It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome. The image is loaded from a Javascript file to produce the mouseover effect. If you load the image all by itself, it works fine. Here's the image... http://70.86.157.71/test/consultant2.png Does anyone know how to fix this? The image was produced in Photoshop CS3. I've read things about removing the Gama, but that apparently was in previous versions of Photoshop and when I load it in TweakPNG, it doesn't have Gama. Please help!

  • internet explorer 7 iframe unloads when going back

    Hi this is my first post here, so please be kind ;-) i'm implementing a browser history manager, just like rsh or yui browser history manager. The idea was not to constantly poll the url hash of a hidden iframe, but to capture the onscroll event of an iframe, when it scrolls to an anchor name on an urlhashchange. So on every click i add an new anchor to iframe and set the iframe's hash to the anchors name. When pressing the back or forward button the frame scrolls to the previous or next anchor and the onscroll event is fired. That works great on firefox 3.0+, IE6 and Opera but on IE7 when hiting the back button the frame unloads and loses all its anchors.   • How to publish internal data to the internet - as simple as possible

    We have a .net 2-tier application where a desktop program is talking to a database. We support MS SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 and Oracle 9, 10 and 11. The application is sold, not as shrink-wrap, but pretty close. It is quite important for us that the installation and configuration is as easy as possible as installation instructions are usually supplied in written form to the customers internal IT-department. Our application is usually not seen as mission critical for the IT-department, so we need to keep their work down to a minimum. Now we are starting to get wishes for a web application build on top of the same data. The web application will be hosted by us and delivered as a SaaS application. Now the challenge is how to move data back and forth between the web application and the customers internal database. as I see it we have some requirements: We must be ready to handle the situation where the customers database is not accessible from the DMZ. I guess the easiest solution is that all communication is initiated from inside the customers lan. As little firewall configuration as possible. The best is if we can run without any special configuration as long as outgoing traffic from the customers lan are not blocked. If we need something changed in the firewall, we must be able to document that the change is secure. It doesn't have to be real time. Moving data in batches every ten minutes or so is OK. Data moves both ways, but not the same tables, so we don't have to support merges. It would be nice if we don't have to roll our own framework completely. Looking forward to hear your suggestions.

  • Internet Explorer changes brightness

    I have a very annoying problem with IE8 on Vista: My screen brightness changes when I view a page with IE. It slowly dimms brightness some 20% - enough to be noticeable. This seems to be dependent on the OVERALL brightness of the page viewed or of the amount of bright space on the page... sometimes it dimms down if the page is bright, sometimes the complete different, it dimms when lot of dark space is on the page. I know this sounds weird, I cannot describe it better. It takes about one,two seconds from on brightness level to the other. This ONLY occurs in IE - not in Word or any other application. Please help! This dimming is very stressfull for my eyes.

I want to use it on the webpage, but at the install window the name is MyActiveX.cab with no link. the MyActiveX.cab name can be changed by modifying the html page's tag codebase attribute. but the name is still format like "XXX.cab" with no hyperlink.     I hava an iframe which loads some javascript via javascript. In internet explorer only, this works if and only if IE has a cached copy of the javascript. This means that reloading the page (or otherwise triggering the script to run again, if it's stuck in a function or whatever) will cause this code to work, otherwise it will not. In particular, the document.write call fails to happen.   • Getting element position in IE versus other browsers

    We all know IE6 is difficult. But there seems to be disparate behavior in positioning in later versions of IE as well, when compared with Firefox or other browsers. I have a simple pair of javascript functions which finds the position of an element, and then displays another element in relation to the first element. The idea is to get the second element, which is somewhat larger, to appear in front of the first element when the mouse hovers over it. It works fine, except on all versions of Internet Explorer, the position of the second element appears different than in Firefox. The code to get the position of an element is: function getPosition(e) { var left = 0; var top = 0; while (e.offsetParent) { left += e.offsetLeft; top += e.offsetTop; e = e.offsetParent; } left += e.offsetLeft; top += e.offsetTop; return {x:left, y:top}; } And the actual rollover display code is: var pos = getPosition(elem1); elem2.style.top = pos.y - 8; elem2.style.left = pos.x - 6; In Firefox, elem2 appears directly over elem1, as I want it to. But in IE7 or IE8 it appears way off. What is the reason this occurs, and is there a way to fix it?

  • Debugging an XBAP application with 64-bit browser

    We have an XBAP application that fails when opened in Internet Explorer 8 64 bit. We only get a pretty generic error which makes it hard to determine where the error is coming from. I'm trying to find a way to debug the application with IE 8 64 bit, but I haven't figured out how to do this. I can't set the 64 bit version as the standard browser and overwriting the browser path in the browsers.xml for Visual Studio doesn't work as well. It just gets overwritten as soon as I hit F5 to debug to point to the 32 bit IE. I have figured out how to start the application from Debug with the 64 bit browser by changing the Debug options from "Start browser with URL" to "Start external program" and setting the command line arguments to point to the bin folder. Unfortunately then the XBAP is looking for its config.deploy file which doesn't seem to be generated during regular debug. This doesn't happen when using "Start browser with URL" and the application doesn't seem to care for this file then. Does anybody know why there's a difference between "Start browser with URL" and "Start external program" in the Debug options which might cause this difference in behavior when Debug is started? Also, does anybody know how to successfully debug an XBAP with a 64-bit browser?

  • WCF: connecting to service over internet times out

    Still on the WCF learning curve: I've set up a self-hosted WCF Service (WSDualHttpBinding), which works fine on my own computer, which resides behind a firewall. If I run the client on my own computer, everything works great. Now I installed the client on a computer outside my network, and I'm trying to access the service via a dynamic DNS, like so: http://mydomain.dyndns.org:8000/MyService. My port forwarding issues were taken care of in a previous question; I can now see the service is up in my browser. But now when I try to run the client on the other machine, I get the following error message: "The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout." I have disabled security on the service, so that's not it. What else might be preventing the connection from happening?

  • Bizarre Bug with our Rails app in IE

    We're experiencing a really bizarre bug in our Rails 2.3.4 app. This bug only happens in Internet Explorer (7 and 8). Here's what happens: A new customer creates an account at https://domain.com/signup/free (notice no subdomain) Their account is identified by a subdomain like "example.domain.com" After signing up, they get a welcome screen with a link to their account's home page They follow the link, then click the "log in" button and attempt to login Even though they provide valid credentials, the app redirects back to their account's root url ... they can never reach their admin area The only way they can login (on IE) is by quitting and re-opening IE ... then it works fine ... Something with their initial session is preventing them from logging in. If it matters, we are using restful_authentication and the ssl_requirement plugin ... I'm not sure if one or both of those has a problem with IE but we are stumped here. Also, I've read IE has an issue with subdomains that contain underscores ... this isn't what's going on.

    So the user may search for "10 mbit" after which I want to capture the "10" so I can use it in a speed-search rather than a string-search. This isn't a problem, the below regexp does this fine: if (preg_match("/(\d+)\smbit/", $string)){ ... } But, the user may search for something like "10/10 mbit" or "10-100 mbit". I don't want to match those with the above regexp - they should be handled in another fashion. So I would like a regexp that matches "10 mbit" if the number is all-numeric as a whole word (i.e. contained by whitespace, newline or lineend/linestart) Using lookbehind, I did this: if (preg_match("#(?<!/)(\d+)\s+mbit#i", $string)){ Just to catch those that doesn't have "/" before them, but this matched true for this string: "10/10 mbit" so I'm obviously doing something wrong here, but what?

  • How do I stop js files being cached in IE?

    Hello stackers! I've created a page that uses the CKEditor javascript rich edit control. It's a pretty neat control, especially seeing as it's free, but I'm having serious issues with the way it allows you to add templates. To add a template you need to modify the templates js file in the CKEditor templates folder. The documentation page describing it is here. This works fine until I want to update a template or add a new one (or anything else that requires me to modify the js file). Internet Explorer caches the js file and doesn't pick up the update. Emptying the cache allows the update to be picked up, but this isn't an acceptable solution. Whenever I update a template I do not want to tell all of the users across the organisation to empty their IE cache. There must be a better way! Is there a way to stop IE caching the js file? Or is there another solution to this problem?

  • CSS3PIE issues in IE6 and 8

    I'm using CSS3PIE to apply some rounded corners to elements in Internet Explorer that will get them by stylesheet in other browsers. I've run into some issues with it though. In IE8, I discovered that any element that had the PIE behaviour would behave strangely. The container would jump a few pixels to the right, but the content would stay in its original position, giving the appearance that the content had all shifted left relative to its container. This would be especially problematic on elements with no or small amounts of padding. I was able to hack my way around the problem in IE8 by using X-UA-Compatible, but I'd rather avoid this solution if at all possible. I don't have access to IE9 for testing but my understanding hacks like PIE aren't necessary and it would be wasteful to force a compatibility mode in a browser that doesn't need it. I have worse issues in IE6, with the PIE layout breaking down completely on a list that is set up to use display:inline; zoom:1; list items (to simulate inline-block, which works in IE8 and the other browsers). Here the borders of the list items get rendered in completely the wrong place. So ideally, I'd like to have PIE work properly in IE6, and in IE8 without having to resort to compatibility mode. As far as IE6 goes, a graceful fallback where PIE is just not applied will do. IE7 is the only browser where the page displays as intended. I can't provide an example page just at the moment unfortunately, I can add one later though. Follow up: Here are some screen grabs made with IE Tester. I'm hoping they will make things a little more clear for everybody. As you can see, IE7 is fine. However, in IE8, the containers are offset to the left relative to their content, and in IE6 the list elements (with the rounded 1 pixel border) are a complete mess! I have tried to use IE8's Developer tools to see where exactly it fails, but I haven't been successful yet. So two questions Is there anything blatantly wrong with my ajax call here that could be preventing me from seeing it in IE where it works in FF/Chrome? Are there any special considerations I have to make for the Internet Explorer family of browsers with regards to this particular jQuery method? I've done some googling on this but nothing obvious is coming up. One other note: I am currently using jQuery 1.3.2 due to some legacy scripts on the same site. I did try loading 1.4.2 and it had the same results on IE8
