• URGENT: Need a Company to Fix My Plesk & IIS on windows 2008

  Hello: I need to know a name of a company to fix my server install and get my sites running again. Windows 2008 IIS 7 Plesk 9.x The problem started when Level 2 of my hosting company adjusted a FTP users to have certain permissions....apparently he did this outside of plesk and it has been nothing but permission headaches all around. Connections....uploading files, etc. now somethings gone wrong where plesk isnt even loading properly and IIS too... I need to see if someone can fix this remotely before I give the green light to format and reinstall server, IIS, Plesk and Domains! looking to pay a company to get this working ASAP - This is not requested as a free job so I need someone good and who can fix it without the huge hassle of formatting and such. • CPU fan twitching phase leds blinking - computer won't boot

  I have a big problem that I got today. Yesterday computer was "on" normally, I went to sleep without shutting it down. When I woke up, I heard a strange sound and was unable to bring it up from hibernate. I unplugged the PSU. When I plugged the PSU back in, the sound came back. When I opened the case, I saw the fan "twitching" like it is about to start and fan LEDs were blinking. Also, motherboard LEDs were blinking in the same pattern - the first green one has more of luminosity then others. When I cut down the power with 0/1 button on PSU, the fans continue to make sounds like the machine is trying to boot before the capacitors run out and the power dies. Does anyone have a clue what to do? I tried disassembling everything but that doesn't work. I will try with friend's PSU later today.

• Computer Flashes Out?

  We have a strange problem with our computers at my school. They are all Latitude 2100 Netbooks. At random points (I can't seem to find a pattern) the screen will turn a single color (red, green, black, brown, etc.) To fix this, the computer must be put to sleep, and brought back up. They have integrated graphics, but I can't imagine that if it was a bug with the computer itself, that every single computer would do this. Is there any way I could find out the problem that's causing this. Some diagnostic tool? Thanks. Edit: Forgot, they all have windows.

• P4 vs. i3/i5 *T in power consumption and performance [migrated]

  I am running an Intel P4 prescott with HT on my home server (linux file server on encrypted disks on software-RAID5 and virtualisation host for three further machines). The performance for this purpose is really okay. When the system is idle it consumes about 140W power. I am considering buying a new mainboard for an e.g. Intel i3-2100T or an Intel i5-2390T. Both are low power CPUs with a TDP about 40W. Has anyone experiences how much power a recent mainboard with one of these CPUs an 3-4 'green-energy' disks (6W each) consumes? Do I get underneath the 100W threshold? What's about the performance of these low power CPUs? Are they comparable to an Intel P4 with HT? regards, walter

• Movie colors are off on ubuntu using Movieplayer?

  I've been playing with a new SLR that also happens to record movies. When I try to view a movie using Movie Player, it plays fine, and the sound is there, but the colors are off - green grass is purple, and my golden retriever is a blue retriever. VLC reports that the file is broken, offers to repair it, and plays it with the same problem. The same file plays fine under WinXP with both Media Player and Quicktime, and with no problems under MacOS also with Quicktime. What's the problem, and how can I fix it?

• Org-mode lags in highlighting source

  I'm using org-mode to maintain my programming notes. This means I have lots of source code blocks, as follows. #+begin_src <language name> <code> #+end_src One thing I've noticed is that when I write the #+end_src, emacs doesn't color the source code as such. Yet, if I quit emacs and reopen the notes file (or force a refresh with the Org-Refresh/Reload-Refresh setup current buffer menu entry) the source is colored grey if I'm using the GUI or green if I'm using emacs in the terminal. Is this an inherent limitation of emacs, or am I doing something wrong in setting up my code blocks that's preventing emacs from going back and recoloring the source code that I've entered?

• Reverse proxy 502 bad gateway

  I have setup a subdomain to proxy my plesk panel, but when saving pages I am getting 502 Bad Gateway error instead of a completion message. I am running CentOS 6. • MBP Bluetooth PAN connection with iPhone 4

  I am trying to share MBP(OSX 10.8.3) internet connection with iPhone 4 (iOS 6) using Bluetooth PAN(Personal Area Network). Problem is Bluetooth PAN is not getting an ip address. I have tried to renew DHCP lease but nothing works. When I give a Manual IP address, the Bluetooth PAN goes green but doesn't shows the connection in iPhone. Is it possible to share the internet connection via Bluetooth. Note: I don't want to create an Ad-hoc connection over wifi.

  Hi, We have a Ubuntu 10.04 Server that has a bunch of Samba shares on it that Windows workstations connect to. Each Windows workstation has a valid username/password to access the shares, which have restricted access governed by Samba. The problem we are experiencing is that Samba doesn't seem to be able to mimic the Windows way of handling "Read Only" attributes. Say I have two users, UserA and UserB, both a group called Staff - UserA creates a file that is readable/writeable by the group (ie. chmod rwxrwx---). If UserA then sets the "Read Only" flag, this changes the permissions to r-xr-x--- (i.e. no write for anyone). As UserB is in the same group as UserA, they should be able to remove the "Read Only" permission - however, they can't as Samba won't allow it. Is there a way to force Samba to allow users within the same group to remove the "Read Only" from a file not created by them? • Fujitsu Siemens V6535 laptop doesn't wake up - crash when going into standby?

  I'm having trouble with my laptop (Fujitsu Siemens model V6535). It runs Windows 7, and after I upgraded from Vista I've noticed something that makes me really angry. When my laptop goes into Standby, the power LED changes to red and starts blinking (standby mode). When I push the power button to wake it up it, the blinking LED changes to green but nothing else happens. Nothing on the display, no HDD sound. When I press the power button for a few seconds and then try turn it on again, it doesn't display anything. I have to unplug the charger, shut it off, and power it on again without the power cable. Then it starts working. A few days ago I upgraded the BIOS to the newest version, but it doesn't help. Does anyone have any idea what can be wrong?

• HP proliant dl360 g5 fails to reboot

  Some history of this also available here. As of my latest update on the forum linked above, now cold reboot as well as hard reset and following boot for my proliant dl360 g5 works as expected and successfully boot the system. However, soft-reboot results in internal health indicator turning RED on the front and long beeps every around 6seconds until I either cold reboot or press and hold the power button. A summary of system state when this happens: Internal Health led indicator: RED External Health led indicator: Green No led next to any component is red or amber No POST message neither on the video output nor on IML logs (verified both at the time issue occures and after cold reboot that boots the system successfully). Any thoughts please share. I hope we can knock this issue down together with your help!

• Plesk 9 VPS - Doesn't reply to NameServer requests (nslookup, etc)

  Hi, I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with a new VPS i'm setting up. The VPS is running Plesk 9 on a CentOS 5 system. Everything works fine, except it doesn't serve dns requests. If I try something like nslookup [somedomain.com] the.ser.ver.ip to test a DNS query, i get the following error ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached I can't telnet to it on port 42 either.. I'm guessing something is blocking the requests.. firewall maybe? the plesk firewall module is installed and the nameservers entry is green. Any other way I can check what's blocking it on the server? Any help/tip greatly appreciated. Note: http works, i can telnet to the server on port 80 and i can also ping the server Thanks

• Can't get intel atom g-500 video driver to work with ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition.

  First of all I am completely new to Linux, so if you respond, please do so in a 'linux for dummies' tone so that my brain will be able to process it. I recently installed ubuntu on my dell mini-inspiron 1010. It has one GB of ram and an intel atom processor that uses the intel 500 graphic accelerator driver for windows and can run 1024x768 comfortably in xp. When I was installing ubuntu had quite a bit of trouble with my display and I am still unable to adjust my settings from 800x600x0x0 and there is no hardware acceleration. I visited the intel site and installed the linux drivers with the help of a friend but still no change. I tried adding resolution settings through xconf but they could not be applied even after I added the values. I am probably going about this totally wrong, but I've spent quite a lot of time browsing through forums and still haven't found a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also any other beginner tips that you have would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Matt

• Juniper J4350 out of order

  I have got two (2) Juniper routers J4350 that are out of order : All the interfaces are down (leds on the interfaces don't ligthen, ping dosen't respond) No output on the console port (even when booting) I've tried to reset the router (holding the RESET CONFIG button on the front panel during 15 seconds) and nothing happened, even while booting the device I've opened the router to check the fans. I've removed some dust and nothing has changed. I wanted to precise that the leds on the front panel are all on: The POWER led is green The STATUS led is red The ALARM led is on and is orange The HA (High Availablity) is on and orange as well I have found nothing on the Internet to solve this problem... When I plug it into the USB port, Windows generates the sound indicating that it has found new hardware, and the green LED on the mic lights. But, it does not work, and the device manager reports that it cannot find a driver after searching. The same mic works on a Vista machine. Samson has no driver on their Web site, and insists that the generic audio driver in Windows should work. (http://www.samsontech.com/PRODUCTS/productpage.cfm?prodID=1810). I cannot find a generic USB audio driver at Microsoft.com. Can anyone help? Larry

• terminal tools and logs for debugging TCP issues

  I have a server which I am testing for functionality (not load, not stress) with tsung. 50 users / second, 100 total users. Judging from tsung (tsung is the testing framework) graphs, there TCP connections (red line) drops to 0 while the commenced user sessions (green line) does not. Server logs show nothing to be gripping onto, so I am speculating some kind of TCP issue. Should this be the case ? Where would I look further on the server, any logs / tools to be looking at ? • Microsoft Basic Office 2007 Activation Keys won't work after re-installing on my Laptop

  So, I've upgraded my hard-drive on my laptop, and proceeded to grab my trusty copper-faced Official MS Office disk to do an install. I have three licenses with the fancy green-blue paper that identifies the license keys. Problem is, that for each of these license keys, when the Office 2007 software asks that I enter the "Product Key" it states: The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and then retype it Why would Microsoft want to inhibit/prohibit re-installs on the same machine that the software was initially installed to? Incidentally, the same goofy error happens with each of the three valid product key (activation keys) that I enter.

• 13-inch Macbook Pro Battery Not Charging

  I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro. From last night on, it says 'Battery Not Charging'. The charger's light is always green and if I remove the charger it turns off(means the battery is completely empty). I tried reseting the PRAM and SMC, but not dice. I also tried using different chargers with out any success. The Macbook Pro is from the new generations and is over a year old. The Power Information section indicates 458 for the Power Cycles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Using Gentoo's `ebegin`, `eend` etc under Ubuntu

  We're quite fond of the style of the ebegin, eend, eerror, eindent etc commands used by Portage and other tools on Gentoo. The green-yellow-red bullets and standard layout make for very quick spotting of errors, on what would otherwise be very grey command line output. #!/bin/sh source /etc/init.d/functions.sh ebegin "Copying data" rsync .... eend $? Producing output similar to: * Copying data... [ OK ] As a result we're using these commands in some of our common shell scripts, which is a problem for the people using Ubuntu and other linuxes. (linuces? linuxen? linucae? other distros) On Gentoo these functions are provided by OpenRC, and imported with functions.sh file (whose exact position seems to vary slightly). But is there a simple way of getting these commands on Ubuntu? In theory we could replace them all with dull echos, but we'd rather not?

• Monitor turns off about 1 second after turning it on

  Hi all! I have a hardware issue with some of the LCD monitors we have in our office. My problems is not related to video cards or anything else with the computer itself. I have 2 Dell 17" LCD screens that goes off (blank) after 1 or 2 seconds. The light remains green so it's not idling or sleeping. Just this morning, I had to replace one that goes off on 2 workstations and also on my laptop. Nothing to do with it. I tried the VGA and DVI connection w/out luck. I strongly think that this is something with a capacitor or something inside the screen but I can't figure out what it is... Is anybody heard of that kind of issue before? Regards, David.

• File ownership and permissions on web site PHP files

  Hello, I am learning the basics of linux servers so I am green. I have an Ubuntu server upon which there are websites that I have inherited. In a fit of security worry I decided to check out the ownership of the web site files. They are all 2016:sites. If I run the command 'cat /etc/group | more' I can see that the group exists. But when I run 'lastlog' the user 2016 does not appear. I started to worry that 2016 might be the username of web users connecting from the web so I set the permissions on a testfile to chmod 600, giving read permissions to only the file owner. Sure enough I could still access the file from the web. Can anyone suggest what is going on here? I tried creating a new user and giving them file ownership but then when I access the file from the web it wants me to have all directories up stream owned by the same person. Thanks

• Laptop connects to other network but not to my home wireless

  My home network's wireless SSID is say "XYZ" I also have an ethernet wire from the same router. I have two laptops A and B Earlier both A and B were able to connect to my home internet through the ethernet and wireless. Suddenly, the laptop B can no longer connect to XYZ or through ethernet. When I do plug the wire, i get the connection icon all green but when I try to access any web page it errors out (page not found) But strangely laptop B connects to my neighbours wireless SSID "ABC". I have also tested laptop B with other networks and it connects fine. Laptop A and many other devices still connect fine with my home wireless "XYZ" Strange thing is when my laptop B connects wireless through XYz, it gets the IP address but then none of the browsers (chrome,firefox, IE) can show any web pages. What settings should I be checking on laptop B that is preventing it to connect to my home internet. Thank you
