  I'm attempting to mock some file operations. In the "real" object I have: StreamWriter createFile( string name ) { return new StreamWriter( Path.Combine( _outFolder, name ), false, Encoding.UTF8 ) ); } In the mock object I'd like to have: StreamWriter createFile( string name ) { var ms = new MemoryStream(); _files.Add( Path.Combine( _outFolder, name ), ms ); return new StreamWriter( ms, Encoding.UTF8 ) ); } where _files is a dictionary to store created files for later inspection. However, when the consumer closes the StreamWriter, it also disposes the MeamoryStream... :-( Any thoughts on how to pursue this?

  I have been trying to create a small e-commerce web based application using MS Dot Net framework. The application will let the user allow to store the image of their product that they want to sell or purchase, then they will have the option to upload the image of a particular product and compare that image with the similar images in the database. So my two main concerns are: - Is MS SQL a good option to store and compare the images. - Is the any other better database that can do the same work with less complexity of work and that is also easy to integrate with MS dot net framework.

• Linq to Entities performance within ASP.NET Development Server

  I've been evaluating linq to entities and linq to SQL for a project. Obviously each has its own advantages and disadvantages which have been discussed plenty of times here. However, One thing I am seeing with L2E is kind of odd. Using L2S, when using the ASP.NET Development Server, the performance is a little slower for my web service calls. I'm looking at 300ms vs. 250 ms. However, when using L2E, when using ASP.NET Dev Server, the performance is awful. I'm talking 1,250 ms vs. 220 ms. I know I should probably just use local IIS for development, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this, or knows what is causing it.

• SqlBulkCopy unusual TimeOut Error

  I have a SqlBulkCopy operation that is taking data from an MS-Access 2007 database (via OleDbConnection) and using SqlBulkCopy to transfer that data to a SQL Server database. This has previously been working and continues to work for one MS-Access database, but not the other. I get the error message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It is hard to believe it is a timeout ast the oledbCommand.CommandTimeout = 0 the sqlBulkCopy.BulkCopyTimeout = 0 and on either side (MS-Access and SQL Server the timeouts have now been set to 0). Are there other issues/exceptions that the above error message could be hiding? Is there a way to determine what the base cause of a sqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer exception is (there doesn't appear to be any inner exceptions etc...)

• Web Service appears as website instead of developer web server

  I recently reimaged my PC and regrabbed one of our projects from Source Safe. In our solution we have a web service that normally runs on a server, however we can build the webservice on our localhost for debugging as well. However, now whenever I grab the project from source safe it is building the webservice as a website instead of a developer web server. This is causing a variety of issue, specifically I am no longer able to specify which port I would like that webservice to use. As a result I cannot connect to our database through my local webservice. How can I change the project in my solution that controls the webservice from a website to a developer web server?   Hi Could someone tell me how to add a new line in a text that i enter in a mySql table. I tried using the '\n in the line i entered with INSERT INTO statement but '\n is shown as it is. Actually i have created a table in Ms Access with some data. Ms Access adds new line with '\n. I am converting Ms Access table data into mySql . But when i convert, the '\n is ignored and all the text is shown in one single line when i display it from mySql table on a php form. Can anyone tell me how mySQL can add a new line in a text ?   Hi all: I am trying to create a fast way to convert c# classes into byte array. I thought of serializing the class directly to a byte array using an example I found: // Convert an object to a byte array private byte[] ObjectToByteArray(Object obj) { if(obj == null) return null; BinaryFormatter bf = new BinaryFormatter(); MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); bf.Serialize(ms, obj); return ms.ToArray(); } But the byte array I got contains some other information that are not related to the fields in the class. I guess it is also converting the Properties of the class. Is there a way to serialize only the fields of the class to a byte array? Thanks

• Displaying Fields (and/instead of Properties) in a PropertyGrid

  I'd like to use a PropertyGrid to manipulate the data on some objects, however these objects don't have properties, they have fields. Thus a property grid doesn't display them (high five MS!) Before anyone posts "just use properties": I can't at the moment.. these objects are DTOs and are used to send data to a VB6 Interop dll, thus all the parameters for the method calls are "ref" parameters (high five MS!), and C# won't compile if you use a property instead of a field or variable (high five MS!). No, I am not going to create local variables for every property on any given object. There many, many fields, and many, many test cases that would need updating, as well as the production code it self, and this post/question may be the path of least resistance. :)

• Click-Once deployment is leaving multiple versions (yes, more than 2)

  I've got a click once application that is leaving all old versions on my disk. It's an internal corporate application that gets frequent updates, so this is a disaster for rapidly inflating our backup size. According to the docs and other SO questions, it is supposed to only leave the current and previous versions on disk. However, each time I deploy the project and upgrade a client, I get another copy of all exe/dll/data files. I'm making no changes whatsoever to the application, just pushing deploy again in Visual Studio. Any ideas? Updates: The problem seems to happen on both Windows 7 and XP. 64 bit windows and 32. I've done a diff of the folders where the version is installed and the following files are different: MyApp.exe.manifest MyApp.exe.cdf-ms MyDll1.cdf-ms MyDll2.cdf-ms No actual executable files are different, nor the MyApp.manifest, MyDll1.manifest, etc.

• Overloading assignment operator in C#

  I know the = operator can't be overloaded, but there must be a way to do what I want here: I'm just creating classes to represent quantitative units, since I'm doing a bit of physics. Apparently I can't just inherit from a primitive, but I want my classes to behave exactly like primitives -- I just want them typed differently. So I'd be able to go, Velocity ms = 0; ms = 17.4; ms += 9.8; etc. I'm not sure how to do this. I figured I'd just write some classes like so: class Power { private Double Value { get; set; } //operator overloads for +, -, /, *, =, etc } But apparently I can't overload the assignment operator. Is there any way I can get this behavior?

  In software companies I have seen it's really hard to work on very large products where everything depends on everything else. For instance Microsoft works on C#, F#, .NET, WPF, Visual Studio where these things are interconnected. I don't know how many people are involved, but if it's in 100s, how do they keep in sync with everything, so they design and implement features without conflicting with other dependencies and future plans of other products? I am wondering that if MS is able to do this, they must have a very good system. Any guidelines or secrets for MS or non-MS very large software product delivering?

  How to simulating two client-controlled vehicles colliding (sensibly) in a typical client/server setup for a network game? I did read this eminent blog post on how to do distributed network physics in general (without traditional client prediction), but this question is specifically on how to handle collisions of owned objects. Example Say client A is 20 ms ahead of server, client B 300 ms ahead of server (counting both latency and maximum jitter). This means that when the two vehicles collide, both clients will see the other as 320 ms behind - in the opposite direction of the velocity of the other vehicle. Head-to-head on a Swedish highway means a difference of 16 meters/17.5 yards! What not to try It is virtually impossible to extrapolate the positions, since I also have very complex vehicles with joints and bodies all over, which in turn have linear and angular positions, velocities and accelerations, not to mention states from user input.

  Oracle Application Server Performance Monitoring and Tuning (CPU load high) i have just hired by a company and my boss give me a performance issue to solve as soon as possible. I don't have any experience with the Java EE before at the server side. Let me begin what i learned about the system and still couldn't find the solution: We have an Oracle Application Server (10.1.) and Oracle Database server (9.2.), the software guys wrote a kind of big J2EE project (X project) using specifically JSF 1.2 with Ajax which is only used in this project. They actively use PL/SQL in their code. So, we started the application server (Solaris machine), everything seems OK. users start using the app starting Monday from different locations (app 200 have user accounts,i just checked and see that the connection pool is set right, the session are active only 15 minutes). After sometime (2 days) CPU utilization gets high,%60, at night it is still same nothing changed (the online user amount is nearly 1 or 2 at this time), even it starts using the CPU allocated for other applications on the same server because they freed If we don't restart the server, the utilization becomes %90 following 2 days, application is so slow that end users starts calling. The main problem is software engineers say that code is clear, and the System and DBA managers say that we have the correct configuration,the other applications seems OK why this problem happens only for X application. I start copying the DB to a test platform and upgrade it to the latest version, also did in same with the application server (Weblogic) if there is a bug or not. i only tested by myself only one user and weblogic admin panel i can track the threads and dump them. i noticed that there are some threads showing as a hogging. when i checked the manuals and control the trace i see that it directs me the line number where PL/SQL code is called from a .java file. The software eng. says that yes we have really complex PL/SQL codes but what's the relation with Application server? this is the problem of DB server, i guess they're right... I know the question has many holes, i'd like to give more in detail but i appreciate the way you guide me. Thanks in advance ...   I have a Debian Squeeze server running nginx + php-fpm + fastcgi. I have a typo3 installation on this server which runs well. No I installed OTRS and I get an error that I do not understand: 2012/06/25 15:35:38 [error] 16510#0: *34 FastCGI sent in stderr: "Access to the script '/opt/otrs/bin/fcgi-bin/index.pl' has been denied (see security.limit_extensions)" while reading response header from upstream, client: ..., server: support.....com, request: "GET /otrs/index.pl HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "support.....com", referrer: "http://support.....com/" Why do I get this error? The otrs directory is writable for the webserver, so this is not the problem. Any ideas?

  I want to get list of all words from aspell dictionary. I downloaded aspell and aspell polish dictionary, then unziped it using: preunzip pl.cwl I got pl.wl: ... hippie hippies hippiesowski/bXxYc hippika/MNn hippis/NOqsT hippisiara/MnN hippiska/mMN hippisowski/bXxYc ... but they appear with sufix like /bXxYc or /MNn. These suffixes are defined in pl_affix.dat, which looks like ... SFX n Y 5 SFX n a 0 [^ij]a SFX n ja yj [^aeijoóuy]ja SFX n a 0 [aeijoóuy]ja SFX n ia ij [^drt]ia SFX n ia yj [drt]ia ... It is connected to the declination and conjugation. How can I add to the first list all forms (with all corresponding suffixes as defined in .dat file ) ? BTW: I need this list to spell-checker jazzy.

  I have an Apache server that serves up binary files to an application (not a browser). The application making the request wants the HTTP Content-MD5 header in HEX format. The default and only option within Apache is Base64. If I add "ContentDigest on" to my VirtualHost, I get this header in Base64. So I wrote a perl script, md5digesthex.pl, that gives me exactly what I want: MD5 in HEX format but I'm struggling with the RewriteRule to get my server to send the result. Here is my current Rewrite recipe: RewriteEngine on RewriteMap md5inhex prg:/www/download/md5digesthex.pl RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/download/(.*) RewriteRule ^(.*) %{REQUEST_URI} [E=HASH:${md5inhex:$1}] Header set Content-MD5 "%{HASH}e" env=HASH The problem is that I can't seem to set the HASH environment variable based on the output of the md5inhex map function. • Can't send emails through sendmail, error occured

  Hi, I have sendmail MTA and i use pear:Mail class to send mails through remote sendmail server. Everything was fine till yesterday. Probably nothing changes was made in configs. At maillog i can see: May 6 12:58:55 xxx sendmail[25903]: STARTTLS=server, relay=hostxxxx.static.xx.xx.pl [85.x.x.x], version=TLSv1/SSLv3, verify=NO, cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA, bits=256/256 May 6 12:58:56 xxx sendmail[25903]: o46AwtqE025903: hostxxxx.static.xx.xx.pl [85.x.x.x] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA2 and in /var/log/messages: May 6 13:00:17 lilia sendmail[27193]: realm changed: authentication aborted I use ldap to authenticate users but i used the same script to check mailing on another server and it works there good, only this server behave weird. Packets are deliverd to sendmail server i can see it in tcpdump, but there is smaller packets than on other server which sends emails. Could you tell me how can i check what is wrong with that? D.S.

• How to sudo as another user, without specifying the username

  So I'm currently trying to create a sudoers file, but I ran into something I can't figure out. The end result I'm looking for is that I want users to be able to do something like: sudo /usr/sbin/script.pl But, instead of running as root, I'd like the script to run as "other_user". I looked into the sudoers file, and I tried adding a line like: pedro ALL = (other_user) /usr/sbin/script.pl But that only works if I specify the user by doing sudo -u other_user /usr/sbin/script. Is there an (easy) way to have the script run as a specific user, without having to specify it in the command line?
