How should I lock the table in this VB6 / Access application?

I'm working on a VB6 application using an Access database. The application writes messages to a log table from time to time. Several instances of the application may be running simultaneously and to distinguish them they each have their own run number. The run number is deduced from the log table thus... Would locking the recordset do any good (the row in the record set doesn't match any particular row in the database)?

Android - update widget text

Hi, i have 2 questions about widgets update I have 2 buttons and i need to change one button text when i press the other one, how can i do this? The first time i open the widget it calls the onUpdate method, but it never calls it again. Resource allocation and automatic deallocation

In my application I got many instances of class CDbaOciNotifier. They all share a pointer to only one instance of class OCIEnv. What I like to achieve is that allocation and deallocation of the resource class OCIEnv will be handled automatically inside class CDbaOciNotifier. The desired behaviour is, with the first instance of class CDbaOciNotifier the environment will be created, after that all following notifiers use that same environment. With the destruction of the last notifier, the environment will be destroyed too (call to custom deleter). C++0x thread library or Boost.thread define a non-member variadic template function that locks all mutex at once that helps to avoid deadlock. template <class L1, class L2, class... L3> void lock(L1&, L2&, L3&...); The same can be applied to a non-member variadic template function try_lock_until, which locks all the mutex until a given time is reached that helps to avoid deadlock like lock(...). template <class Clock, class Duration, class L1, class L2, class... L3> void try_lock_until( const chrono::time_point<Clock,Duration>& abs_time, L1&, L2&, L3&...); I have an implementation that follows the same design as the Boost function boost::lock(...). But this is quite complex. As I can be missing something evident I wanted to know if: is there a simple timed lock algorithm avoiding deadlock on multiple mutexes? If no simple implementation exists, can this justify a proposal to Boost? P.S. Please avoid posting complex solutions.

Writing JavaScript from a Custom Control

I'm new to writing custom controls. I have MyCustomControl.cs and in my Render method I want to render out about 50 lines of JavaScript. I also want to keep any indentation for readability once it's spit out/rendered on the client when viewing source.

I just don't get the C++ Pointer/Reference system.

I've never had problems with references as in Python (implicit) or PHP (explicit &). In PHP you write $p = &$myvar; and you have $p as a reference pointing to $myVar. So I know in C++ you can do this: void setToSomething( int& var ) { var = 123; } int myInt; setToSomething( myInt ); Myint is now 123, why? Doesn't & mean "memory address of" x in C++? What do I do then if var is only the adress to myInt and not a pointer? void setToSomething( int* var ) { var* = 123; } int myInt; int* myIntPtr = &myInt; setToSomething( myIntPtr ); Does the above work as expected? I don't understand the difference between * and & in C++ fully. They tell you & is used to get the adress of a variable, but why IN GODS NAME does that help you in functions etc. like in the first example?

Instruments memory leak iphone

Hi, I posted this problem a few days ago but it was very muddled and my question wasnt very clear so I removed it. I've been digging around and the memory leak is still persiting. Hopefully this attempt will be clearer. First off I've run the static analyzer and it reports no memory leaks. I then ran Instruments and it pointed to a memory leak at this line of code. PHP: Convert <ul> <li> Tree HTML tag to an array

Hi, I'm using jsTree and I need to convert this HTML tag tree code <ul> <li> to a PHP array. The jsTree HTML tag will be passed to PHP to be parsed and store in a structured tree PHP array(see below for the PHP array structure). Additional question: Is my desired PHP array structure good or you can suggest a good structure? I'm open for suggestions. PHP + Code Igniter Timecode Calculation Logic Error

Hello everyone, I have what I suspect to be a logic problem with an algorithm I am using to work with Video timecode in PHP. All help is appreciated. The Objective Well basically I want to work with timecode and perform calculations For those not familiar with timecode it looks like this 01:10:58:12 or HH:MM:SS:FF 'AKA' HOURS:MINUTES:SECONDS:FRAMES I have used the script from HERE to help me with working with this format. The Problem Now can i just say that this script works!!! Timecode calculations (in this case additions) are being performed correctly. Hi there! I have a website at www.thetotempole.ca and when viewed in IE9... My websites content box (The green wooden backgrounded box with content inside) is moved slightly over to the left making a space between the actual container and the content box... Is there anyway I can fix this without harming any of the other browsers? Thanks! (Also, I know much of the code for the << and operator definitions look terrible, but unless that is the specific reason for the error please do not address it. This is a draft :) )

Why is this necessary? Is there a way to suppress this? Thanks! Edit: This code tested on x86 machine with g++ version 4.1.2. If you wish to run it on a 64-bit machine, you'll have to change at least the line return malloc(24). Changing to return malloc(48) should work.

Windows Start Menu Not Staying on Top

Hey everyone. I've had this problem since Windows Vista. I did a clean install with Windows 7 and hoped it would fix the problem. Also swapped out the video card just to rule out a strange driver issue. Here's what's happening. After running for some period of time (usually a few hours), the Start button/orb will loose it's "Chrome" and turn into a plain button that just says "Start." It will work fine for a while, but then the start menu will just stop showing. Additionally, when I hit Win+D to show the desktop, the entire taskbar completely disappears. I can get it back usually by moving/minimizing windows that may be overlapping where the start menu should show. Otherwise, it requires either a full reboot or I'll end up killing & restarting the explorer.exe process. Hi, I'm trying to download a file from a URL that looks like this: http://pdf.example.com/filehandle.ashx?p1=ABC&p2=DEF.pdf Within the browser, this link prompts me to download a file called x.pdf irrespective of what DEF is (but 'x.pdf' is the right content).
