  • Unable to get simple ruby on rails Search to work :/

    - by edu222
    I am new to RoR, any help would be greatly appreciated :) I have a basic scaffolding CRUD app to add customers. I am trying to search by first_name or last_name fields. The error that I am getting is: NoMethodError in Clientes#find You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! You might have expected an instance of Array. The error occurred while evaluating nil.each Extracted source (around line #9): 6: <th>Apellido</th> 7: </tr> 8: 9: <% for cliente in @clientes %> 10: <tr> 11: <td><%=h cliente.client_name %></td> 12: <td><%=h cliente.client_lastname %></td> Application Trace C:/Rails/clientes/app/views/clientes/find.html.erb:9:in `_run_erb_app47views47clientes47find46html46erb' My find function in controllers/clientes_controlee.rb is: # Find def find @cliente = Cliente.find(:all, :conditions=>["client_name = ? OR client_lastname = ?", params[:search_string], params[:search_string]]) end My views/layouts clientes.html.erb form code fragment is: <span style="text-align: right"> <% form_tag "/clientes/find" do %> <%= text_field_tag :search_string %> <%= submit_tag "Search" %> <% end %> </span> The search template I created in views/clientes/find.html.erb: <h1>Listing clientes for <%= params[:search_string] %></h1> <table> <tr> <th>Nombre</th> <th>Apellido</th> </tr> <% for cliente in @clientes %> <tr> <td><%=h cliente.client_name %></td> <td><%=h cliente.client_lastname %></td> <td><%= link_to 'Mostrar', cliente %></td> <td><%= link_to 'Editar', edit_cliente_path(cliente) %></td> <td><%= link_to 'Eliminar', cliente, :confirm =>'Estas Seguro de que desear eliminar a este te cliente?', :method => :delete %></td> </tr> <% end %> </table> <%= link_to 'Atras', clientes_path %

  • Ruby Detect method

  • ruby regex, parsing html

    - by danwoods
    Hello all, I'm trying to parse some returned html to look for currently playing movies. The pattern I'm trying to match looks like: <span dir=ltr>Clash of the Titans</span> Of which there are several in the returned html. (the html is huge, I've posted a sample at the bottom) I'm trying get an array of the movie titles with the following command: titles = listings_html.split(/(<span dir=ltr>).*(<\/span>)/) But I'm not getting the results I'm expecting. Can anyone see a problem with my approach or regex? Returned html (I believe the 'markdown'formating will render the some of the html, but this is just an example): <script>window.gbar={};(function(){function h(a,b,d){var • Ruby IRB - Requires and Scope

    - by tyndall
    Trying to understand this problem I'm running into. I create file welcome.rb. The contents of this file: welcome_message = "hi there" I then launch an irb session. And type require 'welcome'. That works fine. Then I type: puts welcome_message I get the error message undefined local variable or method `welcome_message' for main:Object What is the best way to bring in predefined variables and have initialization work done when you require something into your irb session. Global variables didn't seem like the right path.

  • Ruby concatenate strings and add spaces

    I have 4 string variables name, quest, favorite_color, speed that might be empty. I want to concatenate them all together, putting spaces between those that aren't empty. So: name = 'Tim' quest = 'destroy' favorite_color = 'red' speed = 'fast' becomes 'Tim destroy red fast' and name = 'Steve' quest = '' favorite_color = '' speed = 'slow' becomes: 'Steve slow' (Notice: there is only 1 space between 'Steve' and 'slow') How do I do that (preferably in 1 line).

  • Ruby on Rails Invalid Authenticity Token when using IE

    - by Jaan J
    Hi, well for some strange reason IE gives me and InvalidAuthenticityToken error almost every time a POST query is used. Seems to be that IE does not like the "/" and "=" characters sometimes found in authenticity_token. So I wondered if anyone has actually found a solution to this? More strange is that no other browser seems to behave that way. Thanks in advance.

  • Ruby on Rails 2.3.5: update_all failing on ActiveRecord

    - by randombits
    I'm trying to update a collection of records in my database using ActiveRecord's update_all. Enter script/console. MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1", :limit => 1000) ActiveRecord thinks limit is a column, says it's unknown and throws an exception. According to the documentation though, my syntax looks sane. This is RoR 2.3.5. When doing MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1") alone, it works just fine.

    I have a typical, Post model: class Post< ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :user_id #Line 1 validates_presence_of :title,:body #Line 2 in the controller, I have: def create if request.post? if login_required @post = Post.new(params[:post]) #Line 3 @post .update_attribute("user_id",session[:userid]) #Line 4 However, if the validations on Line 2 fail the Post will still be created, unless Line 4 is commented out. 1) Why? 2) Suggestions on a fix?   • ruby nl2br outside <code> ... </code>

    - by Julien P.
    Hi everyone, I've been struggling on this thing for a week without being able to find what I'm looking for. Here is what I'd like to do: I'm setting up a wiki where I can post all my knowledge to (yes, I know a couple things :p) but I can't render it the way I'd like to. The bodies of my posts are text fields. In order to render them the right way I run the following command: @post.body.gsub("\n", "<br />") I also have some tags with some code inside that looks like this < code my code < /code. Here come's the issue. Every line between the < code and < /code tags are changed to but it doesn'r render properly since I'm using a code render template. Therefore, I'd like to know if there is a way to change all \n to < br / except for those between < code and < /code Thank you everyone for reading this and helping me out. PS: Please do not consider the spaces after the < in each tag. I had to do this to "espace" them. Julien

    I just installed TeamBox on my Ubuntu 9.10 server. I have it up and running on port 3000 using the provided server script. It's running extremely slow, up to 30 seconds per HTTP request when connecting from another computer. I used links to load up TeamBox from the shell and it took no time at all. I then setup an SSH tunnel and again it was working very fast. I run about 30 vhosts through apache on this server, as well as SAMBA etc and do not have any problems. How can I troubleshoot this problem?

Should I use blocks for this purpose? i = positions.first while nucleotide_at_position(i-1) == nucleotide_at_position(i) raise "Assumption violated" if i == 1 i -= 1 end first_nucleotide_position = i j = positions.last while nucleotide_at_position(j+1) == nucleotide_at_position(j) raise "Assumption violated" if j == sequence.length j += 1 end last_nucleotide_position = j Background: I'd like to get rid of i and j once they are no longer needed so that they aren't used by any other code in the method. Gives my code less opportunity to be wrong. I don't know the name of the concept - is it "encapsulation"? The closest concepts I can think of are (warning: links to TV Tropes - do not visit while working) Chekhov'sGun or YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness. Another alternative would be to put the code into their own methods, but that may detract from readability.

  • ruby on rails, searchlogic and refactoring

    - by JohnMerlino
    Hey all, I'mt not too familiar with searchlogic plugin for rails (I did view the railscasts but wasn't helpful in relation to the specific code below). Can anyone briefly describe how it is being used in the three methods below? Thanks for any response. def extract_order @order_by = if params[:order].present? field = params[:order].gsub(".", "_") field = field.starts_with?('-') ? 'descend_by_'+field[1..-1] : 'ascend_by_'+field field.to_sym else # Workaround 'searchlogic'.to_sym end end def find_resources @search_conditions = params[:search_conditions] || {} # See http://www.binarylogic.com/2008/11/30/searchlogic-1-5-7-complex-searching-no-longer-a-problem/ @resources = @resource_model.send(@order_by).searchlogic(:conditions => @search_conditions) end def apply_filters f = filter_by f.each do |filter_field| filter_constraints = params[filter_field.to_sym] if filter_constraints.present? # Apply searchlogic's scope @resources.send(filter_field,filter_constraints) end end end

  • Ordering view by highest group count question - Ruby on Rails

    - by bgadoci
    I've read the couple of questions about this on stack overflow but can't seem to find the answer. I am trying to display the tags in my blog by the ones with the highest count in the tags table. Thanks to KandadaBoggu for helping me get the tags feature of the blog I am designing working. Here is the basics and my question. Tag belongs_to :post and Post has_many :tags. The tags table is simple really, consisting of the normal scaffolded fields plus post_id and tag_name (I actually called the column 'tag_name' instead of just 'name'). in my /views/posts/index.html/erb file I correctly am displaying the tags by group and the amount of times they are being used (appearing in the tags table). I just want to know how to order them by the highest count. Here is the code, and I currently have it set to updated_at: PostsController def index @tag_counts = Tag.count(:group => :tag_name, :order => 'updated_at DESC', :limit => 10) conditions, joins = {}, nil unless(params[:tag_name] || "").empty? conditions = ["tags.tag_name = ? ", params[:tag_name]] joins = :tags end @posts=Post.all(:joins => joins, :conditions=> conditions, :order => 'created_at DESC').paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 5 respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @posts } format.json { render :json => @posts } format.atom end end

Output I want is: H343423 C343423 Output my RegEx is getting is: H343423 Something1 Something2 C343423 0 So it is fetching the whole line but I just want it to stop after first word is read. • Ruby zlib deflate massive data

    - by Bub Bradlee
    I'm trying to use Zlib::Deflate.deflate on a massive file (4 gigs). There are obvious problems with doing that, the first of which being that I can't load the entire file into memory all at once. Zlib::GzipWriter would work, since it works with streams, but it's not zlib compression. Any ideas?

  • Prevent Ruby on Rails from sending the session header

    - by hurikhan77
    How do I prevent Rails from always sending the session header (Set-Cookie). This is a security problem if the application also sends the Cache-Control: public header. My application touches (but does not modify) the session hash in some/most actions. These pages display no private content so I want them to be cacheable - but Rails always sends the cookie header, no matter if the sent session hash is different from the previous or not. What I want to achieve is to only send the hash if it is different from the one received from the client. How can you do that? And probably that fix should also go into official Rails release? What do you think?
